It came in the bottom of the 8th inning with the score tied at three. </p><p>It looked like a towering blast from the camera angle, before Greene essentially came out of nowhere to make the catch at the wall. Recently, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/detroit-tigers/tigers-news-riley-greene-accepts-lineup-demotion-with-trust-aj-hinch-admission" rel="noopener">Greene was demoted in the lineup</a> by Tigers manager AJ Hinch after a 1-for-21 slump. However, Greene put his trust in his manager that he was doing the right thing. </p><p>Meanwhile, the Tigers are leading in the American League Central with a 70-52 record. Also, Greene is batting .269 with 123 hits, 27 home runs, and 87 RBIs. </p><h2><b>The overall value Riley Greene brings to the Tigers</b></h2><p>Altogether, Greene possesses the offensive production and defensive skills suited for the Tigers. Offensively, he has maintained a level of consistency at the plate in unique ways. </p><p>At one point, he was one of only three players to have 15 home runs, 15 doubles, and 15 triples. On defense, Greene can excel in left field and can make great plays, as was the case against the Twins. </p><p>In 2024, Greene led all leftfielders with 14 runs saved. Also, Greene has established himself as one of the leaders of the Tigers. Before the team starts a three-game set against the New York Yankees on the road, they did receive a bit of good news. According to team beat reporter Betsy Helfand on X (formerly Twitter), star center fielder Byron Buxton will return <a href="https://x.com/betsyhelfand/status/1954947231725064507" rel="noopener">from the IL on Monday.</a></p><p>“Byron Buxton will return from the injured list today,” reported Helfand. “Carson McCusker is being optioned as the corresponding move.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/twins-news-byron-buxton-placed-il-before-trade-deadline">Buxton’s return is certainly</a> a boost for Minnesota’s lineup. The outfielder is in the midst of a career year and has stayed relatively healthy. Even this stint on the IL was a short one. With Buxton back in the lineup, the Twins will now look for a series win over the Yankees, just like their past two sets against the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers. It’s clear that he could use more of an opportunity at the major league level. At the moment however, there’s not much room for him in Minnesota. It’s better for him to get more time in St. Paul, rather than sitting on the bench at Target Field.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/twins-news-byron-buxton-reassures-minnesota-fans-he-aint-goin-no-where">Getting Buxton’s bat back</a> in the lineup, and his speed in center field, is a big boon for the Twins. As long as he remains on the field for the rest of the season, the 31-year-old will end up playing in the second-highest mark of his career. He’s only played more than 100 games twice, and he barely passed that mark in 2024. Rocco Baldelli saw many of his main contributors sent to other teams. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/houston-astros/astros-news-carlos-correa-mlb-history-trade-back-houston">Minnesota sent Carlos Correa to the Houston Astros</a> in one of Thursday’s biggest moves. While their roster was gutted, Byron Buxton and Joe Ryan remain, despite trade rumors surrounding both.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/minnesota-twins/twins-news-minnesota-good-news-byron-buxton-injury">Buxton’s injury has held him out for a week</a>. During that time, the Twins roster underwent massive changes. Now, he, Ryan, and Bailey Ober are the last three All-Star level talents left on the team. Thursday represented a big step backward for Minnesota as an organization. For a team that has not been contenders for a while, this year’s trade deadline was a tough pill to swallow.</p><p>Despite the current morale around the team, Twins fans can lean on Buxton as a steadying presence. We’ll be better once we get on the other end of it and figure things out a little bit more. Indecision will talk a little bit more, but I ain’t goin’ no where.”</p><p>Buxton’s injury-riddled career has not stopped him from emerging as the Twins’ leader on the field and in the clubhouse. Despite scattered interest in trade rumors, the outfielder was off the table when teams talked to Minnesota. Even though <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/boston-red-sox/mlb-rumors-what-red-sox-werent-willing-to-trade-twins-for-joe-ryan">Ryan had teams pursuing him as well</a>, the Twins shut down those conversations as well.</p><p>Minnesota manager Rocco Baldelli and the front office have their work cut of for them. However, hearing that Buxton has bought into the team and its future is a comforting thought. But as contenders fight for positioning heading into the fall, a strong offer, both in terms of assets and a future role elsewhere, might have changed that opinion.</p><p>Still, this news all but certainly puts any last-second move to bed, guaranteeing that Buxton will at the very least end the season in Minnesota, with the potential to stick around until 2028, when his seven-year, $100 million contract comes to an end.</p><p>Should the Twins opt against selling off players like Duran and Bader and really take a swing at the playoffs this season? Considering they currently sit fourth in the American League Central division with a 51-55 record, that might be too rich an offer for Minnesota’s blood. But could the team contend for the playoffs, let alone the World Series, before Buxton’s current $100 million contract expires? That remains a possibility, which makes this trade deadline very important both in the short and long term for the Twins.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
