McCullers threw only one inning, retiring the side in the top of the first inning before Spencer Arrighetti took over.</p><p>McCullers did not give up a hit; the only Washington runner to reach base was Dylan Crews, who got on via a hit by pitch.</p><p>It was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/houston-astros/astros-news-lance-mccullers-jr-injury-update-catch-fans-attention">McCullers’ first time pitching</a> for the big league club since the 2022 World Series — 868 days ago, to be exact. To mark the occasion, McCullers said a <a href="https://x.com/Chandler_Rome/status/1902131475761262811" rel="noopener">number of former teammates</a> reached out, with The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reporting that Carlos Correa, Alex Bregman, Dallas Keuchel and Martín Maldonado were among them.</p><p>McCullers developed a muscle strain in his right arm during spring training 2023, which ended in flexor surgery that sidelined him for the entire season. As he was working his way back in 2024, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/houston-astros/astros-news-lance-mccullers-jr-another-tough-injury-turn">he was shut down again</a> when he experienced another setback.</p><p>Now, with just one inning logged this spring and Opening Day less than two weeks away, McCullers won’t be ready for the start of the season. If it’s Monday, it will not be in game action, but on the back fields at the Astros’ spring training facility while the team is in Houston getting ready for Opening Day.</p><p>Regardless, McCullers will <a href="https://x.com/Chandler_Rome/status/1902125534781296732" rel="noopener">want to get an up-down</a>, either pitching multiple innings in an exhibition game or simulating it at the Astros’ facility.</p><p>It’s the <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/lance-mccullers-jr-set-for-game-action-in-2025-spring-training" rel="noopener">next step in a ramp-up</a> that McCullers is approaching with care.</p><p>“Yeah, it’s exciting, but one day at a time,” McCullers said last week after throwing a live batting practice session, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. “Overall, I’m still working on some stuff delivery- and four-seam related, but it’s a never-ending tinker.”</p><p>He added that the hitters he faced were impressed by his offspeed stuff.</p><p>“The velo was pretty solid and it held the whole time, which was nice to see,’ he said. “Offspeed was really sharp. Hitters had good things to say about the way the offspeed was coming out of the hand. Though there have been rumors about possible <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/twins-news-pablo-lopez-dishes-popping-up-trade-rumors-once-again">Minnesota Twins trades such as sending out Pablo Lopez</a>, there has been little to no movement which gets a candid reaction from star Carlos Correa.</p><p>The shortstop would speak on Minnesota’s moves or lack thereof and while he would say that he’s had conversations with management, they are in a “spot now where we cannot invest.” His ultimate goal is to <a href="https://www.startribune.com/minnesota-twins-carlos-correa-shortstop-twinsfest-target-field-matt-borgschulte/601211321" rel="noopener">“control”</a> what he can and would advocate for the team at the current moment according to The Minnesota Star Tribune.</p><p>“I focus on the things I can control,” Correa said Saturday at TwinsFest. “I’ve been having conversations with them, and we’re in a spot now where we cannot invest, and it is what it is. You’ve got to live with that, and you’ve got to go out and play with the players that you have.”</p><p>“I feel like the talent is in this clubhouse,” Correa continued. “We’ve just got to put it all together. The veterans, we’ve got to stay on the field, and the young guys go to the next level. I think we’re going to be in a good spot. Even from Correa’s perspective, he never had any “worry” about that type of speculation where he would speak on how much he loves the city, plus how he has a “no-trade clause” in his contract.</p><p>“I don’t worry about that, brother,” Correa said, “because one, I’m not on social media too much. I’m with my kids all day. And two, I’ve got a full no-trade clause. Let me tell you something: I love Minnesota, and I love the fishing here.”</p><h2><b>Twins’ Carlos Correa on his health</b></h2><p>Last season, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/twins-news-carlos-correa-trade-rumors-shut-down-by-scott-boras">Correa played</a> in 86 games where he hit a .310 batting average to go along with 14 home runs and 54 RBIs as he deals with plantar fasciitis for the second straight offseason. Correa does have an injury history ranging from his time with the Houston Astros, but he’s confident in his ability to be 100 percent once Spring Training rolls around and is confident in the Twins.</p><p>“I’m ready to go, full go for spring training,” Correa said. “I’ve been sprinting, I’ve been running around, I’ve been doing about everything, I’ve been focused on not only just treatment but also strengthening. A lot of walking barefoot around the house. All that’s helping work on my toes and all that, so I’m in a really good spot.”</p><p>“It was tough, but you’ve got to just flush it down the drain and just focus on the next one,” Correa continued. “I feel like we have a great team. Despite the Twins’ financial constraints, President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey stated on Monday that while he’s open to hearing trade proposals, he’s not looking to offload Correa’s salary without significant value in return.</p><p>“When (Correa) was on the field, he was one of the best players in the game,” said the Twins president. “Ultimately, he didn’t play as many games as we would have liked because he was dealing with the plantar fasciitis. That was unfortunate. But when he played, he was really good for us. He’s a leader. He’s a key member of the clubhouse. Obviously, you expect teams to call on players like that, especially with where we are and some of the conversations we’re having with other clubs. But we want to win, so a high bar is set.”</p><p>Following a disappointing end to last season and the Twins’ announcement that a sale would be considered, Falvey and Twins general manager Jeremy Zoll anticipated receiving trade inquiries, particularly about high-profile players like Carlos Correa.</p><h2><b>The Minnesota Twins are focused on winning</b></h2><p>While they are open to listening to offers, Falvey and Zoll remain focused on strengthening the team with the goal of winning, not selling off key assets.</p><p>The star shortstop’s performance played a significant role in the Twins’ fluctuating season. He earned his first All-Star selection since 2021, his final year with the Astros.</p><p>However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/twins-news-carlos-correas-frustrated-stance-on-lingering-foot-injury">plantar fasciitis in his right foot halted Correa</a> season after the All-Star break, stalling the team’s momentum. By the time <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/twins-carlos-correa-sets-sights-on-injury-return-but-theres-a-catch">Correa returned in mid-September</a>, Minnesota was battling to maintain a Wild Card spot, eventually falling short to division rival Detroit.</p><p>Correa’s struggles with plantar fasciitis continued in 2024, marking his second consecutive season dealing with the condition—this time affecting his right foot, after battling a similar issue with his left foot at the end of the 2023 campaign.</p><p>Along with other injury setbacks in recent years, the frustration was evident. However, the Twins remain focused on one key point: When Correa is healthy, he excels. Even after missing two months, he posted an impressive .960 OPS in September, showcasing his ability to thrive when on the field.</p><p>Considering the Twins’ financial constraints, it’s only expected that teams with larger budgets might consider pursuing Correa, who could provide a major boost to a title-contending roster. Last season, Correa posted a .310/.388/.517 batting line, with 14 home runs and 54 RBIs in 367 plate appearances, showcasing his ability to be a difference-maker when healthy.</p><h2><b>Trading Carlos Correa will be a net loss for the Twins</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Twins-Carlos-Correa-on-the-field.jpg"><figcaption>Matt Blewett-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Correa is scheduled to earn $36 million this season and is owed $128 million over the next four years. Moving his contract could free up space for the Twins to make more moves, either through signings or trades, to strengthen their roster.</p><p>However, trading Correa would also mean losing their best player, and his value would be extremely difficult to replace, regardless of how much financial flexibility Falvey and the Twins gain.</p><p>The Twins have an abundance of young infield talent, including Royce Lewis, Brooks Lee, and Edouard Julien, but Correa remains the superior option at shortstop.</p><p>It’s more likely that Falvey and Zoll will trade one of those young infielders, possibly alongside a young starter like Simeon Woods Richardson, David Festa, or Zebby Matthews, to acquire a more seasoned player who can help improve the team in 2025.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
