They have won 21 of their last 28 games, and manager Alex Cora is hoping the team can continue to play winning baseball throughout the final seven weeks of the regular season. However, it will be a significant challenge, considering the starting catcher is currently out with knee pain.</p><p>Narvaez has been one of the best catchers in the American League this year, getting the job done with his excellent defense and surprising offensive contributions. He excels at framing pitches and does a solid job throwing out runners attempting to steal and picking off base runners who take unsuspecting leads.</p><p>Narvaez is slashing .248/.319/.409 with 9 home runs and 33 runs batted in. His production has slipped a bit in recent weeks, but he has taken advantage of the opportunity that manager Alex Cora has given him.</p><p>Narvaez is not going to be in the lineup for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/red-sox-news-boston-add-blue-jays-catcher">the Red Sox</a> in their Friday night game against the San Diego Padres, but he says that he went through baseball activities during the day and said that he feels <a href="https://x.com/SmittyOnMLB/status/1953949425182912838">quite a bit better</a> than he did in the last couple of days. However, he does not know if the Red Sox plan to put him on the Injured List. That is something that he wants to avoid.</p><h2><b>Red Sox may have to go with struggling Connor Wong behind the plate</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Connor-Wong-has-struggled-at-the-plate-this-season.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: David Butler II-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Connor Wong was the starting catcher for the Red Sox in recent seasons, but he has struggled badly at the plate this season. That allowed Narvaez to become the team’s first-string catcher.</p><p>Wong regularly gets the assignment to catch when Brayan Bello gets the start for the Red Sox and Cora also uses him just enough to rest Narvaez when he believes the starting catcher needs time off.</p><p>However, the absence of Narvaez from the starting lineup could be problematic. Wong is slashing .160/.235/.179 this season with no home runs and just 2 runs batted in. He has yet to get a hit with a man in scoring position. Both of his RBI have come on sacrifice flies.</p><p>While Wong’s offensive contributions have been brutal this season, he has been successful in the past. He slashed .280/.333/.425 with 13 home runs and 52 RBI last year.</p><p>The Red Sox are hoping he can rebound in the final weeks of the season and provide some semblance of offense when he is in the lineup.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Red Sox are currently in the middle of a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Phillies took Game 1 in dramatic fashion. The game was tied 2-2 in the 10th inning, and Philadelphia won on a walk-off catcher’s interference. Red Sox catcher Carlos Narvaez got his glove a bit too close to Edmundo Sosa’s bat, and it cost the team the game.</p><p>You aren’t going to see a walk-off catcher’s interference everyday, that’s for sure. Catcher’s interference in general is fairly rare in baseball, and the fact that it happened on the final play of the game is pretty bizarre. Carlos Narvaez didn’t think that he was putting himself at risk, but he knows that he <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45791107/phillies-get-walk-win-via-catcher-interference-call" rel="noopener">can’t let mistakes</a> like that happen.</p><p>“I don’t feel I was that close to the hitter,” Narvaez said, according to an article from <i>ESPN</i>. “Everything went so quick. Really tough for that to happen in that moment to cost us the game. I take accountability. I’ve got to be better. That cannot happen.”</p><p>Edmundo Sosa was late on the pitch, and that is what ultimately led to the interference. His bat was deeper than usual as he tried to get to the ball, and he caught a bit of Narvaez’s glove in the process.</p><p>“I felt my barrel was a little late on the pitch,” Sosa said. “And as I go through my swing path, I feel like I hit the catcher’s glove. And I told the ump that I think I felt something, and I started signaling in the dugout.”</p><p>You might think that a walk-off catcher’s interference doesn’t feel as cool as a walk-off hit, but Sosa disagrees. He was thrilled to get his team the win in any way possible.</p><p>“To be honest, this feels exactly like a home run,” he said. “The most important thing about it is that we end up winning the game, and that’s what we went out to do.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/boston-red-sox/red-sox-news-alex-cora-no-excuses-bottom-line-winning-streak-snapped">Monday’s loss was a tough one for Carlos Narvaez and the Red Sox</a>, but they have a chance to bounce back on Tuesday. The two teams will meet again at 6:45 ET from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, and the game will be airing nationally on TBS.
