Ohtani <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-shohei-ohtani-makes-history-nlcs-game-4">turned in arguably the greatest postseason performance of all-time:</a> striking out ten hitters in six scoreless innings while also hitting three home runs en route to a 5-1 win.</p><p>After the game, Brewers manager Pat Murphy <a href="https://x.com/MLBONFOX/status/1979400590233838022" rel="noopener">couldn’t help</a> but give Ohtani props. Murphy also made sure to say that he was proud of his team for getting this far, even though they ultimately fell short at the end.</p><p>“We were part of tonight an iconic, maybe the best individual performance ever, in a Postseason game,” Murphy said, per MLB on FOX. “I don’t think anybody can argue with that.”</p><p>The Brewers’ hitting crew struggled all series long against the Dodgers’ star power from the mound. They faced four of the best pitchers in the league this series, with Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, and Ohtani all taking the mound for Los Angeles. With the exception of Snell, all of these names allowed just one run in their starts. As for Snell, he didn’t allow a single run in his start.</p><p>It’s a brutal end of the season for the Brewers, who had their best season in what feels like ages. They earned the first seed in the regular season and an automatic bye into the NLDS. There, they overcame their postseason demons and won their first postseason series since 2018 by knocking out the Chicago Cubs. And now the Brewers must contend with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-la-nlcs-game-4-predictions-shohei-ohtani">Shohei Ohtani in Game 4</a>.</p><p>For Derek Jeter, the Brewers’ <a href="https://x.com/MLBONFOX/status/1979296741003530392" rel="noopener">outlook is bleak</a>. “You’re down three games and you’re facing the No. 4 starter, usually you have a lot of confidence as an offense. You’re facing Ohtani as the No. 4 starter, that’s a tough assignment,” Jeter said, per FOX Sports: MLB.</p><p>“I don’t see it. I guess there’s a chance. They said it never rains here [in Los Angeles], it rained all day the other day. So I guess there’s a chance. They have lost the first three games of that series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and they are on the verge of getting swept out of the series.</p><p>Even if they can win Friday’s Game 4 at Dodger Stadium,<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-jackson-chourio-returns-to-game-4-lineup-after-injury-scare"> the Brewers</a> would still face long odds of turning things around and beating the Dodgers in four straight games and representing the National League in the World Series. Nevertheless, that’s the task facing Pat Murphy’s team.</p><p>The only time a team has come back from an 0-3 deficit and won a series in Major League Baseball happened 21 years ago. The Boston Red Sox were in an 0-3 hole against the New York Yankees in 2004 and managed to reverse the momentum and beat the Yankees four times in a row. After accomplishing that historic feat, the Red Sox went on to win the World Series for the first time in 86 years.</p><p>Hall of Fame manager Joe Torre was the steward of the Yankees in that series, and while he was on the wrong side of history in that matchup, the Yankees won four World Series titles under his leadership. He called Murphy to <a href="https://x.com/BNightengale/status/1979307674845221254">offer his advic</a>e on what the Brewers should do under the circumstances.</p><h2><b>Brewers need to take it one inning at a time</b></h2><p>The specifics of the conversation between Murphy and Torre have not been revealed, but one of Torre’s greatest strengths as a manager was his ability to give his team a sense of calm under the most difficult circumstances. If Murphy can do that for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-brewers-christian-yelich-confronts-reality-after-3-0-nlcs-situation">the Brewers</a>, his team will at least have a chance at a comeback.</p><p>It may not have worked in 2004, but his Yankees overcame a 2-0 deficit at home when playing the Atlanta Braves in the 1996 World Series to win in six games. It seems likely that the gist of the conversation involved keeping the Brewers on task by taking the game one inning at a time.</p><p>Torre was a star player with the Milwaukee Braves in the early part of his career and that gives him a kinship with the city. Based on his comment, it doesn’t sound like the Brewers’ manager has any plans of not forcing a Game 5.</p><p>“I’ll see you tomorrow,” said Murphy.</p><p>Milwaukee has seemingly been outplayed in the first three games of the NLCS. The Brewers have failed to score more than one run in all three contests. It’s been a disappointing series for the franchise, especially considering the club earned the No. 1 seed in the NL. Regardless, Pat Murphy and his players have to find a way to keep this series going against the Dodgers.</p><p>The last time an organization came back from being down 0-3 was the Boston Red Sox when they went on a four-game win streak to overcome the three game deficit against the New York Yankees in 2004. Boston went on to win the World Series that year.</p><p>With everything on the line, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-milwaukee-turns-jose-quintana-season-on-line">Brewers are seemingly going all in</a> on Friday night, as the club announced Jose Quintana as the starting pitcher. The Brewers face a 3-0 deficit and must pull off a miracle to come back in this NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers.</p><p>Chourio left Game 3 with a hamstring injury after going 0-4 in the game. He has played very well this postseason, but has been dealing with an injury bug. Chourio is currently hitting .276 in the postseason with eight hits, two doubles, and two home runs. The Brewers desperately need him to get back in that groove with their season on the line. His only hit of the series was a solo home run in Game 2.</p><p>Chourio will hit second and play in left field. Christian Yelich continues to be the DH. It seems like last night was just a precaution after what ended up being his final at-bat late in the contest.</p><p>The Brewers must win Game 4, or they will head home and watch the Dodgers celebrate their way back to the World Series. The Brewers were the best team in the league all season long, but nobody really predicted them beating the Dodgers in this series. LA was favored entering, and it is clear that they are the team to beat.</p><p>The Dodgers got everyone’s best games during the regular season. They clearly have talent, but with pitching issues, the Dodgers knew that they just needed to be in the postseason to win. They are too much to handle and should be heading back to the Fall Classic in the coming days.</p><p>If the Brewers want any chance at coming back in this series, they will need a lot of late-inning magic. With the club facing elimination, manager Pat Murphy announced Jose Quintana will get the start in Game 4.</p><p>Reports indicate that Quintana, who is 36 years old, <a href="https://x.com/AdamMcCalvy/status/1979248477780742353" rel="noopener">will start for</a> the Brewers on Friday, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. This will be Quintana’s first start in the playoffs this year.</p><p>“Jose Quintana will start Game 4 of the NLCS for the Brewers.”</p><p>Quintana’s last start was on September 14, in Milwaukee’s 3-2 regular-season loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. The 2016 All-Star was placed on the IL shortly after that contest due to a calf strain. Since coming back from the injury, the Brewers have used Quintana as a relief pitcher throughout the postseason. That is, until now.</p><p>Jose Quintana has proven to be rather efficient throughout most of his career. The 2025 campaign was a solid one, as the 14-year pro served as a reliable option on the mound for the Brewers. In 131.2 innings pitched in the regular season, Quintana owned a 3.96 ERA and 1.291 WHIP while recording 89 strikeouts (third lowest in his career).</p><p>After entering the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the NL, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-christian-yelich-keeps-real-milwaukees-0-2-deficit">the Brewers find themselves</a> in a win-or-go-home situation against the Dodgers. Milwaukee has to string together four straight wins to advance to the World Series. The last time a team accomplished that goal was the 2004 Boston Red Sox, who went on to win the championship that year.</p><p>The possible comeback starts on Friday with the game beginning at 8:38 p.m. EST.
