The Bronx Bombers are facing some pressure for their divisional lead in the AL East. New York is 48-35, with the Tampa Bay Rays only a game and a half out of first place. The Yankees recently hit a rough stretch, particularly on offense, but have since found their footing as the All-Star break looms in a couple of weeks.</p><p>Sunday was a vintage performance for this squad as the reigning pennant winners clocked four home runs, including two by AL MVP contender Aaron Judge. And Cody Bellinger also went yard for his eleventh home run in the fifth inning to all but put the game away. Before he went into the batter’s box to face left-hander Hogan Harris, the 29-year-old described a heartfelt interaction he had with a mom and her son at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees entered the contest on a six-game losing streak, seeing their lead in the AL East reduced to just 1.5 games over the Tampa Bay Rays in the process.</p><p>The Yankees fell behind 1-0 early in this game but tied it in the bottom of the first inning thanks to an RBI from Giancarlo Stanton on a fielder’s choice.</p><p>Cody Bellinger slid into second base and was called out, but replay review clearly showed that he had made it to the base in time, meaning the Yankees should have come away with no outs on the play.</p><p>Even after replay review, the officials still held up the call on the field, which had Yankees <a href="https://x.com/DaaaGandersLose/status/1935752004053156288" rel="noopener">fans on X</a>, formerly Twitter, outraged.</p><p>“MLB replay is broken,” wrote one fan.</p><p>“Why do you even have a replay rule? Bellinger was 100% safe,” added another, referring to the MLB replay system as “hot trash.”</p><p>Another fan referred to the Yankees’ recent history of getting the perceived short end of the stick on replay reviews.</p><p>“The MLB replay room screws the Yankees AGAIN!! Bellinger clearly touched second base first—CLEARLY—and they still upheld the call. Challenge gone in the FIRST INNING!! What are they watching, reruns of Friends?! Total joke. Worst replay system in sports!! RIGGED!!!” they wrote.</p><p>Overall, the Yankees can’t afford to get any tough breaks from the officials considering how poorly they’ve played over the last couple of weeks. The Yankees lost the first three games of their series versus the Angels this week and found themselves down 2-1 in Thursday’s game before it was delayed due to thunderstorms in the area.</p><p>The good news for the Yankees is that their crosstown rival New York Mets are also suffering along with them, currently on a five-game losing streak of their own.</p><p>After the series versus the Angels, the Yankees will next hit the field on Friday for a set against the Baltimore Orioles.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Max Fried hit a few bumps along the road, but the offense picked him up. After a cold start with the Bombers, he has turned it up of late. He had a .308 batting average and .916 OPS from the start of May to the start of the Royals series. In April, he was hitting .204 with a .638 OPS.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/cody-bellinger-trade-grades-yankees-cubs">Yankees picked up Bellinger as one of their post-Juan Soto pieces</a>. They needed a new left-handed hitting outfielder, and the Cubs were willing to part with the veteran. It has not hurt Chicago this year, as they traded for Kyle Tucker and have gotten great numbers from Pete Crow-Armstrong this year. A win-win trade is rare in sports, but Bellinger is at the center of this one.</p><p>Despite the rough start, the Yankees should be thrilled with Bellinger so far. He has helped their defensive issues while providing Aaron Judge with lineup protection. His 1,000th hit was also his 36th RBI of the season, a solid pace through 65 team games.</p><p>The Yankees and Royals continue their series on Wednesday in KC, but fans likely have their sights set on the weekend. Bellinger and the Bombers head to Fenway for the first time this year on Friday. The one who earned two All-Star nods and 2019 Most Valuable Player honors, or the one who struggled in ’24.</p><p>Bellinger has heated up against the city rival. He’s smacked <a href="https://x.com/yankeesvision/status/1924287181570650166" rel="noopener">seven hits off 11 at-bats</a>. Bellinger lured seven runners to home plate off RBIs and blasted two home runs.</p><p>The Scottsdale, Arizona native started the Subway Series with taking big swings early. He pounded three total hits in the 6-2 victory on Friday to open the matchup. “Belli” then sent the baseball flying in the sixth inning of the second game Saturday. That one became a solo  HR shot.
