In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Bellinger hit a two-run home run to straight away center field to put the Yankees up 3-0.</p><p>In the process, he <a href="https://x.com/TalkinYanks/status/1960762817197563946" rel="noopener">put himself</a> in the company of Joe DiMaggio. For DiMaggio, that was the year he achieved his historic 56-game hitting streak.</p><p>As of now, Bellinger is batting .279 with 25 home runs, 79 RBIs, and 133 hits. Meanwhile, the Yankees are 72-60 and in third place in the American League Central.</p><p>At this point, they are 4.5 games behind the first-place Toronto Blue Jays. In late 2024, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/yankees-news-new-york-acquires-cody-bellinger-cubs-blockbuster-trade">Yankees acquired Bellinger in a trade</a> with the Chicago Cubs.</p><p>Altogether, he has provided a depth of defensive versatility at first base and in the outfield. Furthermore, Bellinger is an effective and dynamic presence on the base paths, with 11 stolen bases this year.</p><p>But is he a duplicate in his own right of the Yankee Clipper?</p><h2><b>The comparison between Cody Bellinger and Joe DiMaggio</b></h2><p>Throughout his career, DiMaggio was the essence of a five tool player. He could hit, hit for power, field, throw, and run.</p><p>The magnetism he exuded on the diamond made him immortal. When it comes to Bellinger, he has shown flashes of DiMaggio at the plate.</p><p>However, Bellinger is prone to slumps, whereas DiMaggio was largely consistent. Furthermore, he has a high strikeout total, with 60 this year and a high of 150 in 2022 with the Dodgers.</p><p>Also, Bellinger plays in an era where analytics rule the day. That being said, the latter was available to come off the bench yesterday, which is a good indication of the latter’s health. Stanton, on the other hand, will most likely not play after three days of playing straight.</p><p>Stanton, when asked about the injury, said that no particular body part was bothering him, but it was just general soreness.</p><p>“I’m available to pinch-hit,” he said, per Greg Joyce.</p><p>Boone and Stanton were also mum on whether the latter would play right field in their next series against the Tampa Bay Rays. However, the Yankees head coach said that he doesn’t think Stanton’s current condition will result in a stint in the IR.</p><p>The Yankees are currently holding on to the last Wild Card spot in the American League. It’s been a tumultuous season for the Pinstripes, especially coming off an appearance in the World Series last year. That position is anything but secure, and the Yankees will not have their full complement when they play at St. Louis.</p><p>Boone was not able to put Cody Bellinger or Giancarlo Stanton <a href="https://twitter.com/GJoyce9/status/1956825954569146633">in the lineup</a>. Bellinger is not able to start in the game and presumably will not play due to illness. Stanton had played right field for three consecutive games, and he has some lower-body stiffness.</p><p>The Yankees were victorious in the first game of the series, building a 4-0 lead and holding on for a 4-3 victory. It would appear that the Yankees will have a difficult time competing without two of their primary stars, but they will still have superstar Aaron Judge anchoring their lineup.</p><p>Despite some recent difficulties, Judge is slashing .330/.442/.680 with 38 home runs and 89 runs batted in. They will send Max Fried, the ace of their staff, to the mound against the Cardinals. He has a 12-5 record along with a solid 2.94 earned run average, but he has struggled in his two most recent starts. He has allowed 8 runs on 16 hits in 10 innings.</p><p>Fried came to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/yankees-news-max-fried-joins-elite-company-rare-feat">the Yankees</a> from the Atlanta Braves, and he had great success against the Cardinals while he was in the National League. He has a 5-0 record against the Cardinals with a 1.10 ERA while pitching for Atlanta.</p><p>Sonny Gray will take the mound for the Cardinals and he has had a solid year.
