He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Atlanta Braves</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/atlanta-braves/braves-news-austin-riley-drops-embarrassing-truth-bomb-struggles">Atlanta Braves have suffered</a> through an abysmal start to the 2025 MLB season, currently sitting at 1-8 after Saturday evening’s home <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/betting/marlins-vs-braves-prediction-odds-pick-4-5-2025">loss to the Miami Marlins</a>. Perhaps mercifully, Sunday’s game between the two teams was postponed due to inclement weather, giving the Braves two days off before they next take the field on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies.</p><p>While they certainly don’t explain the whole story, at least some of the Braves’ early season struggles can likely be attributed to the injuries the team is currently dealing with, as both Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna Jr. are still out of the lineup with injuries sustained during the 2024 season.</p><p>Recently, Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game shared <a href="https://x.com/grantmcauley/status/1908643046519959924?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1908643046519959924%7Ctwgr%5E84d60302f8883aa190025f7382d308dea34611f9%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sportstalkatl.com%2Fbraves-provide-major-update-on-ronald-acuna-jr%2F" rel="noopener">a positive update</a> regarding Acuna’s status on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>“Ronald Acuña Jr. will be heading to Los Angeles soon to get the final clearances from doctors to ramp up his running and eventually head out on a rehab assignment. Timetable is not in stone, but anticipating an early-mid May return (barring any setbacks) seems logical,” reported McAuley.</p><h2><b>A positive update for the Braves</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Acuna-vs-the-Pirates.jpg"><figcaption>Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Last year, Acuna suffered the second torn ACL of his career with the Braves. Coincidentally, the team ended up winning the World Series the first time that happened in 2021, but the Braves had no such luck this past season, ultimately falling to the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card round.</p><p>Atlanta opened up this season in a similar fashion, getting swept by the Padres in their first series, swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in their second, and then splitting two games with the lowly Marlins to open up their home schedule.</p><p>While the season is barely five percent complete and there is still plenty of time to turn things around, the Braves have already dug themselves quite a hole to climb out of at this early juncture.</p><p>The Braves will next take the field on Tuesday evening at home vs the Phillies.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

As of this story’s writing, the Braves hold a lackluster 1-7 record. Help could be on the way soon, however.</p><p>According to Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game, catcher Sean Murphy <a href="https://x.com/grantmcauley/status/1908617307649081719" rel="noopener">could return</a> from injury soon.</p><p>“Sean Murphy will catch nine innings for Gwinnett on Sunday and could be activated from the IL in time for the #Braves‘ series opener against the Phillies on Tuesday,” McAuley wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Murphy, who is dealing with a rib injury, is one of the better catchers in MLB. Of course, he isn’t the only reinforcement who could join the ball club soon.</p><p>Star pitcher <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/braves-news-atlanta-gets-huge-spencer-strider-injury-update">Spencer Strider has been taking steps in the right direction</a>. Additionally, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/braves-news-ronald-acuna-jr-provides-important-injury-update-before-spring-training">Ronald Acuna Jr. remains out due to injury</a>,  but he could return fairly soon as well.</p><p>In other words — despite the extremely slow start — there is hope for this Braves ball club.</p><h2><b>Braves could use Sean Murphy boost</b></h2><p>Murphy, 30, joined the Braves in 2023 after previously playing for the Athletics. The catcher made his first All-Star team during the ’23 campaign, highlighting a quality first season in Atlanta.</p><p>He struggled in 2024, but was also limited to only 72 games played. If Murphy can return — and stay healthy — then perhaps he will find his footing and rebound in 2025. At the moment, Murphy is simply focused on returning as soon as he can.</p><p>He would be a crucial reinforcement ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies series. The Phillies lead the National League East and look like a true championship contender. They will prove to be a difficult opponent for the struggling Braves. As mentioned, though, Atlanta could certainly turn things around.</p><p>The Braves will continue to monitor and provide updates on Sean Murphy’s injury status as they are made available.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

They have won just one of their first eight games, currently sitting at last place in the NL East standings. In fact, they only just won their first game of the year on Friday night in a 10-0 drubbing of the Miami Marlins. But it looks as though help is on the way for the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/atlanta-braves/braves-news-spencer-strider-big-step-injury-return-atlanta">Braves in the form of star starting pitcher Spencer Strider,</a> who doesn’t appear to be too far away from making his season debut.</p><p>Following the Braves’ win over the Marlins, David O’Brien of The Athletic reported that Strider “is <a href="https://x.com/DOBrienATL/status/1908351039473877027" rel="noopener">close to rejoining the team</a>” — with manager Brian Snitker not ruling out having the 26-year-old starter back with the team as soon as next week. At present, Strider is with the Braves’ Triple-A affiliate at Gwinnett, and on Friday night, he pitched an impressive rehab start by pitching 5.1 innings of hitless and scoreless baseball while striking out eight against just two walks.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/atlanta-braves/braves-news-chris-sales-tough-admission-atlantas-horrid-start">Braves offense has been more at fault</a> for their poor start to the season, although the good news is that things seem to be picking up for their hitters in their win over the Marlins. Once positive regression hits the Braves, they will need the pitching of Strider to take things further and for them to be able to make up the ground they’ve already lost with their horrific start to the 2025 campaign.</p><p>Strider pitched in only two games last season before going down with a season-ending injury that required an internal-brace elbow surgery. But when healthy, no one can question the quality of pitcher that Strider is, and his return will be a welcome sight for a team looking to get back on track.</p><h2><b>Spencer Strider and the Braves look to get back on track</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Spencer-Strider-1.jpg"><figcaption>© Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The first two full seasons of Spencer Strider’s MLB career was as good as it can get, tallying a total of 10.4 WAR (per Fangraphs) as he emerged as one of the brightest young starters in the entire league. General manager Alex Anthopoulos kept his eyes open for available talent on Thursday, <a href="https://x.com/Braves/status/1907922911018758410" rel="noopener">striking a deal</a> with the Pittsburgh Pirates for catcher Jason Delay, per the team’s X account.</p><p>Atlanta is acquiring the 29-year-old out of Vanderbilt in exchange for cash considerations, something the small-market Pirates are always willing to accept. Delay is being optioned to the Double-A  Columbus Clingstones. The 2017 fourth-round draft pick has a .231 batting average with two home runs and 35 RBIs in 134 MLB games.</p><p>Considering that 2023 All-Star Sean Murphy has yet to return from a fractured rib he suffered in spring training (making second rehab start on Thursday), and top prospect Drake Baldwin is still finding his way in the big leagues, it is important to have catching depth. Delay will be available to serve backup duties behind the plate if and when the Braves deem it necessary.</p><h2><b>Braves continue their early-season free-fall</b></h2><p>It looked like Atlanta’s offense finally awakened on Wednesday night, before catastrophe ultimately struck in Chavez Ravine. The ballclub sprinted to a 5-0 lead in the second inning, cruising toward its first victory of the season. Though, instead of getting into the win column and delivering the Los Angeles Dodgers their first loss of the year, the Braves surrendered six unanswered runs. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/atlanta-braves/braves-news-broadcast-shambles-shohei-ohtani-walk-off-0-7-start">Shohei Ohtani dealt the gut-wrenching blow</a> in the bottom of the ninth, courtesy of a 399-foot home run.</p><p>No team has ever made the playoffs after starting the season with an 0-7 record. This franchise runs on resilience, however. Atlanta carries a consistent presence in October because it knows how to survive dry spells and misfortune. Manager Brian Snitker guided a group marred by injuries and frigid bats into the postseason last year. With Wednesday evening’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-dave-roberts-admits-1-undeniable-fact-thrilling-braves-win">loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers</a>, the Braves dropped to an abysmal 0-7 on the season, now standing as the lone team in the league without a win on the campaign.</p><p>The biggest issue for the Braves (and there are a lot to choose from) has been their hitting, or more accurately, their inability to do so. Exhibit A of this issue has been third baseman Austin Riley, who has suffered through a horrid start to the year at the plate.</p><p>Recently, Riley got <a href="https://x.com/DOBrienATL/status/1907646880651395361" rel="noopener">one hundred percent candid</a> about his frustration amid all the turmoil, per David O’Brien of The Athletic on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>“Fom a personal standpoint, it’s honestly embarrassing what I’ve displayed offensively, and I’ve got a lot of work to do. From an offensive point, there’s no excuses, it’s embarrassing… With the bases loaded, one out, no excuses, I got to get it done,” said Riley.</p><p>The Braves left the bases loaded on two different occasions during Wednesday’s loss, a game in which they once led 5-0 and ultimately fell victim to a walk-off home run from Shohei Ohtani.</p><h2><b>A horrid start for the Braves</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Riley-vs-the-Padres.jpg"><figcaption>Denis Poroy-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Braves’ 2025 season is in serious danger of ending before it even begins, as the team finds itself at the very bottom of the standings, albeit at this very early juncture.</p><p>It should be noted that the Braves have faced some stiff competition to start the year, and are still awaiting the return of both Ronald Acuna Jr. and Spencer Strider, each of whom was injured during the 2024 season. It also didn’t help matters when it was recently announced that free agent signee Jurickson Profar would miss half the season due to a suspension.</p><p>The Braves will hope that the friendly confines of Truist Park provide some much needed home cooking this weekend for a series against the Miami Marlins. It looked like the Braves were going to hand the Dodgers their first loss of the season early in the game as they took a 5-0 lead, but Los Angeles clawed back into the game. It ended up being a 5-5 ballgame in the bottom of the ninth inning with who else but Shohei Ohtani up at the plate. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-shohei-ohtani-reveals-why-he-thrives-under-pressure">Ohtani delivered in the clutch</a> once again as he hit a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/reactions-erupt-after-shohei-ohtani-walk-off-home-run-completes-dodgers-comeback">walk-off home run to lift the Dodgers past the Braves</a>.</p><p>After going down 5-0, it looked like the Dodgers had no shot at getting a win against the Braves. However, the team never quit, and even on a night when they probably should’ve lost, they found a way to win. That’s what great teams do, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-dave-roberts-fires-unbeatable-take-shohei-ohtanis-walk-off-hr">manager Dave Roberts</a> <a href="https://x.com/jonmorosi/status/1907640321288376689" rel="noopener">will take it</a>.</p><p>“Dave Roberts said, following the Dodgers’ sloppy start, they had ‘no business winning that game,'” Jon Morosi said in a post.</p><p>The Dodgers started the season with two wins in Japan against the Chicago Cubs, and they have followed that up with two straight sweeps. Los Angeles took three games from the Detroit Tigers in their first home series, and then they finished off the sweep of the Braves on Wednesday night.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-shohei-ohtani-la-break-1933-yankees-record-with-8-0-start">Los Angeles is off to a historic start</a> this season, and they could end up being one of the best MLB teams of all time. They have the talent to be just that as people often refer to the Dodgers as an All-Star team because of all the elite players that they have on the roster. There is a long season ahead of them, but the Dodgers are off to a great start.</p><p>Next up for the Dodgers is their first true road series of the season as they will travel to take on the Philadelphia Phillies. The season is 162 games long, so the Dodgers are going to lose eventually. That ended up being precisely what happened, as Ohtani’s homer sent the crowd at Dodger Stadium home happy.</p><p>On one hand, Atlanta has been unlucky to face the two hottest teams in baseball to open the new season, but on the other hand, you have to play poorly to lose seven straight games, regardless of who your opponent may be. It looked like the Atlanta Braves might be able to hand the defending champs their first loss of the season on Wednesday night, but a <a href="https://x.com/BenVerlander/status/1907635167289815195" rel="noopener">walk-off home run</a> from <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/reactions-erupt-after-shohei-ohtani-walk-off-home-run-completes-dodgers-comeback">Shohei Ohtani kept the undefeated record alive</a> for the Dodgers. Los Angeles is eight games into its season, and they are still perfect. They beat the Chicago Cubs twice in Japan, and they have since swept the Braves and the Detroit Tigers.</p><p>The Dodgers are the betting favorite to win the World Series for a reason. They won it all last year, and they got even better during the offseason as they continue to spend loads of money perfecting their roster. The result is an 8-0 start to the season, and manager Dave Roberts is <a href="https://x.com/DodgerBlue1958/status/1907639852528787788" rel="noopener">feeling confident</a>.</p><p>“I feel like we’re going to win… I think each night we are unbeatable,” Dave Roberts said, according to a post from Dodger Blue.</p><p>So far, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-set-franchise-history-7th-straight-win">unbeatable is a good way to describe this Dodgers team</a>. The Dodgers aren’t winning in blowout fashion every night, but they just find a way to win. There were a couple of tight games against the Tigers, but LA got it done. Against the Braves on Wednesday night, the Dodgers were down 5-0. It looked like there was no way that the undefeated record was going to hold, but they prevailed.</p><p>The MLB season is 162 games long, so the Dodgers are going to lose at some point. There is, however, a very real chance that this team flirts with the best record in MLB history. The current win record is 116, so the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-shohei-ohtani-la-break-1933-yankees-record-with-8-0-start">Dodgers just need 108 more</a>. They are off to a good start.</p><p>The Dodgers have a long way to go in terms of winning another World Series, but they have certainly looked as advertised so far. This is the most talented team in baseball, but it all comes down to who is playing their best when the playoffs roll around. The Braves’ highly anticipated offensive attack has been an absolute dud through the first week of the season, and there are already mounting injury concerns along the pitching staff, as well as a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/san-diego-padres/padres-mike-shildt-shows-support-for-braves-jurickson-profar-after-ped-suspension">suspension for free agent signing Jurickson Profar.</a></p><p>After Tuesday’s loss in Los Angeles, reigning Cy Young award winner Chris Sale got <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6248994/2025/04/02/braves-winless-mlb-lose-dodgers/" rel="noopener">one hundred percent real</a> on the team’s mentality as they navigate these turbulent skies, per David O’Brien of The Athletic.</p><p>“It’s just been tough,” said Sale. “We really just haven’t played really well as a whole and just haven’t clicked. That’s obviously bad, but the good news is, you look around this room and you see who’s in here, you know there’s only a matter of time, right?”</p><p>Sale also spoke on the importance of the team not putting too much pressure on themselves.</p><p>“And luckily, at this point in the season, we have time. We don’t want to lean on that too hard; you want to get it going eventually. It’s true that Atlanta has had a difficult schedule to open up the season, having to play two postseason teams from a year ago on the opposite coast, but that’s no excuse for the lack of discipline that the Braves have shown at the plate so far this year.</p><p>The fact that the team will now be without Profar for half of the season truly does make it feel like the sky is falling, with Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna Jr. still yet to return from injuries sustained last season.</p><p>In any case, the Braves will look to finally get in the win column on Wednesday evening vs the Dodgers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But Ronald Acuña and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/braves-news-spencer-strider-big-step-injury-return-atlanta">Spencer Strider are not ready yet</a>, and the team that limped to the finish in 2024 is slow out of the gates in 2025.</p><p>The Braves finish the series against the Dodgers on Wednesday night at 8:38. After that game, they head back home to open Truist Park for the 2025 season against the Miami Marlins. Games in April are not usually considered must-win, but the Braves need a win before they face their fans on Friday.</p><p>Expectations were high around the Braves this year after their injury-riddled 89-win season last year. But a six-game losing streak to start the season is difficult to bounce back from. If the offensive luck turns around, they should be able to stack wins against the Marlins and Phillies at home. One injury return that could help the Braves is starting pitcher Reynoldo López. David O’Brein of The Athletic <a href="https://x.com/DOBrienATL/status/1907224735664185630" rel="noopener">has the latest on</a> the All-Star’s shoulder issue.</p><p>“Reynaldo López will have an arthroscopic procedure on his shoulder next week to determine if there is more than just inflammation bothering him. Until then, [the] Braves won’t have a timetable on his return, but they think/hope he’ll pitch again this season,” O’Brein reported.</p><p>Lopez was a starter last year for the first time since 2019. He gave the Braves 135.2 innings and a remarkable 1.99 ERA in 25 starts. It was his first All-Star appearance and first Cy Young votes, finishing in 11th place. He started the second game of this season, allowing three runs in five innings to the Padres.</p><p>The Braves are already dealing with a massive pitching injury, as Spencer Strider is still not back from elbow surgery. He is rehabbing in the minor leagues and could rejoin the big club soon. But with their ace out, Lopez was going to be leaned on. Now, Chris Sale’s role is even more important in the rotation.</p><p>The Braves lost Max Fried from the rotation this offseason. He left for a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/yankees-news-max-fried-ny-agree-8-year-218-million-deal-free-agency">record-setting $218 million contract with the New York Yankees</a>. It was easier to swallow that loss when Lopez was a part of the rotation. These franchises intersected on Tuesday, <a href="https://x.com/Braves/status/1907232930063384819" rel="noopener">completing a trade</a> on the first day of April.</p><p>The Angels are sending right-handed pitcher Michael Petersen to the Braves for cash considerations, per the latter’s official X account. He is being optioned to the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers. While this is a trivial transaction at first glance, it speaks to the desperation that Atlanta is already feeling through five games.</p><h2><b>Braves are going through it</b></h2><p>Besides the anguish brought on by <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/atlanta-braves/braves-news-jurickson-profar-80-game-ban-ped-violation">Jurickson Profar’s 80-game suspension</a> for performance-enhancing drugs, the Braves’ pitching staff is beset with adversity. All-Star Reynaldo Lopez will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder, and veterans Jesse Chavez and Hector Neris have been <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/atlanta-braves/braves-news-jesse-chavez-dfa-one-day-after-mlb-call-up">designated for assignment</a>.
