Ahead of the series, Padres’ star Fernando Tatis Jr. hit the news as he made a legal decision dating back to an old complaint.</p><p>Tatis Jr. has sued Big League Advance Fund after a complaint regarding a 2017 deal that essentially offers players upfront money for a percentage of their later earnings. According <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6446404/2025/06/23/fernando-tatis-jr-big-league-advance-fund-lawsuit/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=mlbtw&amp;source=mlbtw">to the New York Times</a>, Tatis Jr. is stating “exploitative, predatory business practices, which shamelessly push illegal loans on young, vulnerable athletes, most from economically disadvantaged Latin American countries.”</p><p>Here is what Tatis Jr said in his statement.</p><p>“I’m fighting this battle not just for myself but for everyone still chasing their dream and hoping to provide a better life for their family,” Tatis states in the release. “I want to help protect those young players who don’t yet know how to protect themselves from these predatory lenders and illegal financial schemes — kids’ focus should be on their passion for baseball, not dodging shady business deals.”</p><p>The Padres’ star won’t miss any time dealing with this matter, but this is something that may have been distracting him the last couple of weeks. On Saturday against the Kansas City Royals, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/san-diego-padres/padres-news-fernando-tatis-smashes-107-9-mph-bomb-royals">Tatis Jr. hit his first home run</a> in about a month to help propel the Padres to a series win over the Royals. Right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. was plunked by the Dodgers for the third time this season. And although the two-time All-Star’s X-rays were negative, teammate <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/san-diego-padres/padres-news-manny-machado-sends-warning-after-fernando-tatis-jr-injury">Manny Machado warned the Dodgers “better pray”</a> his imaging results are clean.</p><p>Apparently Tatis isn’t feeling any ill effects from the beaning as he remained in the Padres lineup for the series opener against the Kansas City Royals Friday. He had gone just 2-17 over his last five games and hadn’t had an extra-base hit since June 15. Tatis last homered on May 27 against the Miami Marlins – a 22-game drought.</p><p>But the sixth-year veteran busted out of his slump against Kansas City, leading the Padres to a much-needed win. Tatis now has 14 home runs, 34 RBI and 56 runs scored on the season. He’s hitting .268 with an .818 OPS and 3.3 bWAR in 74 games.</p><p>Despite the 5-1 win over the Royals, the Padres have lost seven of the last 10 games, including three of four contests to the Dodgers. San Diego is now 5.5 games back in the NL West.</p><p>The latest chapter in the Padres’ heated rivalry with the Dodgers added to the animosity between the divisional foes. With San Diego up 5-0 in the series finale, Tatis got hit by a 93 mph four-seamer that ran in on his hands. Tempers flared as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mlb-stories/mlb-news-fernando-tatis-jr-shohei-ohtani-pelted-managers-go-at-it-padres-dodgers-clash">Mike Shildt and Dave Roberts went at it</a>, leading to the benches clearing.</p><p>Order was restored but the drama didn’t end there. Both Shohei Ohtani and Fernando Tatis Jr. were hit by pitches that led to both teams getting in a little scuffle during the contest. On Friday, L.A. decided to option the pitcher who hit Tatis in the 5-3 loss.</p><p>The Dodgers officially announced that Jack Little <a href="https://x.com/Dodgers/status/1936183363024584935" rel="noopener">is being optioned</a> while Will Klein is being recalled. Little goes back to the minor leagues after making his MLB debut on Thursday evening.</p><p>“The Dodgers recalled RHP Will Klein and optioned RHP Jack Little.”</p><p>It was a rough outing for the 27-year-old pitcher, as Little finished the game with one strikeout while allowing four hits, a walk, and two earned runs. All that while also hitting Fernando Tatis Jr. with a pitch through two innings of play.</p><p>Klein will be taking over Little’s spot in the bullpen for now. The last time Klein played in the Majors was in the 2024 season. He played five games with the Kansas City Royals and three with the Athletics. Through 7.1 innings pitched, the 25-year-old pitcher recorded an 11.05 ERA and 2.455 WHIP while totaling seven strikeouts.</p><p>The Dodgers are set to take on the Washington Nationals on Friday in what will be the first contest of a three-game series. It’s an opportunity for L.A. to continue well after going 3-1 against the Padres. Ohtani is expected to play at DH after being hit by a pitch on Thursday night.</p><p>Additionally, Klayton Kershaw will start this one. It’s unknown if the Dodgers plan to play Will Klein out of the bullpen. It will likely determine how the game plays out. The match-up is set to begin at 10:10 EST, with the series taking place in Los Angeles.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mlb-stories/mlb-news-dodgers-padres-get-suspensions-after-scuffle">Dodgers will be without manager Dave Roberts</a>, as punishment for his ejection on Thursday. In the ninth inning, Ohtani would be hit by a pitch, seemingly in retaliation, but the star would wave off his team to clear the benches once again.</p><p>According to ESPN, Shildt would speak after the game about <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45548982/ohtani-tatis-hit-again-dodgers-padres-feud-boils-over" rel="noopener">why he’s irate about the situation</a>, saying this isn’t the first time Tatis has been hit in this way.</p><p>“We got a guy who’s getting X-rays right now, is one of the best players in the game, fortunately on our team, and this guy has taken shots, OK?” Shildt said. “And before this series, and I can back this up with complete evidence, the track records speak for themselves — teams that I manage don’t get into altercations like this because teams that I manage don’t throw at people.
