For nearly two full seasons, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mets-news-alonso-praises-francisco-lindor-clutch-win">every time Francisco Lindor homered</a> in a regular-season game, the New York Mets won. That streak — an eye-popping 28 straight regular-season victories when the star shortstop left the yard — ended Sunday night in Philadelphia. Despite Lindor’s late solo shot, the Mets fell 7-1 to the Phillies, snapping one of the more <a href="https://x.com/NYPost_Mets/status/1936960812629078175" rel="noopener">bizarrely successful streaks</a> in recent MLB memory.</p><p>The loss drops the Mets further behind in the NL East, and ends a run of results that dated back to 2022. Including the playoffs, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mets-news-extend-wild-francisco-lindor-streak-win-dodgers">New York had won 30 consecutive games when Lindor homered</a>. According to MLB researcher Sarah Langs, Lindor’s 28-game regular-season streak ranked second all-time behind only Carl Furillo’s 29-game run with the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1951–53.</p><p>Lindor’s blast came too little, too late. The Phillies, behind a dominant Jesús Luzardo, jumped on New York starter David Peterson in a five-run fourth inning. Kyle Schwarber launched his 24th homer to spark the rally, and Edmundo Sosa’s three-run blast broke the game open. Luzardo (7-3) was nearly untouchable, holding the Mets to three hits and one run across 6 2/3 innings while striking out seven.</p><h2><b>Francisco Lindor’s home run not enough to push struggling Mets passed Phillies</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Francisco-Lindor-3.jpg"><figcaption>Kyle Ross-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>“Schwarber’s homer changed the game,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said postgame. “We were in control, then they just put together a big inning.” Peterson (5-3) struggled in that decisive frame, allowing five hits and two walks. He didn’t return for the fifth after throwing 72 pitches in four innings.</p><p>Sosa continued to torment the Mets with a single and double on top of his homer, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Meanwhile, Lindor homered for the second straight night, but the Mets couldn’t capitalize. After Saturday’s win, in which Lindor also went deep, he was asked about the now-ended streak.</p><p>“I wish I would’ve hit home runs in Atlanta,” he joked, referencing the Mets’ recent sweep at the hands of the Braves. “Some days you hit home runs and we win, some days you hit home runs and we don’t. I guess I’ve been hitting them on the good days.”</p><p>Until now.</p><p>The Mets have now lost eight of nine and fallen a game behind the Phillies, who regained sole possession of first place in the NL East with the victory. For New York, the silver lining is that Lindor seems to be heating up again at the plate. But the aura of invincibility when he goes yard? However, he ended up getting traded to the Atlanta Braves during that offseason in a move that would prove to revitalize his career. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/braves-news-chris-sale-wins-nl-cy-young-award-resurgent-season">Sale went on to win the 2024 National League Cy Young Award</a> and he has continued to pitch well in 2025. On Wednesday against the New York Mets, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/braves-news-chris-sale-strikeout-milestone-vs-mets">Sale turned in a Cy Young-caliber performance</a>.</p><p>The left-handed starter fell just short of a complete game shutout. He ended up holding the Mets scoreless through 8.2 innings pitched while striking out seven and walking just one hitter. Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor gave Sale his flowers with a <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6436936/2025/06/19/chris-sale-braves-mets/" rel="noopener">four-word admission</a> after the game.</p><p>“Hats off to him,” Lindor said, via David O’Brien of The Athletic.</p><p>Lindor’s comments perfectly summarize the night for the Mets. New York leads the National League East. It has been a quality campaign for the ball club. On Wednesday, though, all the Mets could do was watch Sale dominate as the Braves earned a 5-0 victory.</p><p>Sale has pitched to a 2.52 ERA across 15 starts in 2025. He’s also struck out 114 hitters across 89.1 innings of work. Sale, who was one of the better pitchers in the American League during his time with the Chicago White Sox and early in his Red Sox career, failed to win a Cy Young despite multiple top-five finishes. Yet, just one season into his NL career, Sale took home the honor in 2024 with Atlanta.</p><p>And he may be on the verge of earning back-to-back NL Cy Young Awards if he continues to pitch at an elite level. Many players begin to decline in their mid-30’s, but Chris Sale is only getting better with age. But after missing the series finale against LA, Lindor was available to pinch hit for the New York Mets in Friday’s matchup against the Colorado Rockies. And the four-time All-Star <a href="https://x.com/MLB/status/1931194221437784403" rel="noopener">came up big</a>.</p><p>Lindor hit for Tyrone Taylor in the top of the ninth inning of a 2-2 game. With two on and two out he drove a 94 mph cutter from Zach Agnos into the right field corner, scoring Juan Soto and Pete Alonso, per MLB on X. Alonso scored all the way from first on Lindor’s two-run double, making a heads up slide to get around the catcher after the throw from right beat him to home plate.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Broken pinky toe? The injury kept him out of the starting lineup for the last two games but he was able to come off the bench and deliver in the clutch for the Mets Friday.</p><p>In the seventh inning, Alonso got the team on the board with his own two-run double, extending his Major League RBI lead to 57. The Mets first baseman has been on a tear of late. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-pete-alonso-hammers-dodgers-447-ft-blast">Alonso hammered the Dodgers</a> in LA and he’s now hitting .298 with a .977 OPS. He has a National League-leading 20 doubles and 15 home runs in 64 games this season.</p><p>The duo recently teamed up to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-francisco-lindor-pete-alonso-new-duo-franchise-record">set a new Mets franchise record</a> when both Lindor and Alonso homered in a game for the 28th time. The feat broke Darryl Strawberry and Howard Johnson’s previous mark of 27 such games.</p><p>The Mets decision to (eventually) sign Alonso in free agency is looking like a steal. Of course, it’s also looking like Alonso will be exercising his option to re-enter free agency after this season.</p><p>Lindor, meanwhile, remains the heart and soul of this team. And he’s been as clutch as ever this year. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-francisco-lindor-verge-breaking-curtis-granderson-record">Lindor is on the verge of breaking the Mets record</a> for leadoff home runs. He’s started six games this season by going deep. Curtis Granderson currently has the team record with seven, which he accomplished in 2015 and 2016.</p><p>After a disappointing loss to the Dodgers Thursday, the Mets bounced back against the Rockies. New York has now won 10 of the last 13 games, improving to 40-24. New York has now won four of six games against the Dodgers this season. But the team’s latest win <a href="https://x.com/jorgecastillo/status/1930687547082211525" rel="noopener">came at a cost</a>.</p><p>Francisco Lindor announced he sustained a fractured pinky toe on his right foot against the Dodgers, according to ESPN’s Jorge Castillo. The Gold Glove shortstop is listed as day-to-day with the injury but believes he’ll avoid the IL. His ability to play will ultimately come down to pain tolerance.</p><h2><b>Francisco Lindor out of Mets lineup with injury</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Francisco-Lindor-ii.jpg"><figcaption>Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The injury occurred in the first inning of Wednesday’s game. Lindor took an 89 mph Tony Gonsolin slider off his foot. He was able to stay in the game, eventually coming around to score on a Juan Soto sacrifice, giving the Mets an early 1-0 advantage.</p><p>Lindor actually played the rest of the game, going 0-4 with a strikeout and a run scored. However, the injury was discovered following the Mets’ victory and the four-time All-Star is not in the lineup for Thursday’s series finale against the Dodgers.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-dave-roberts-crucial-mookie-betts-update-toe-injury">Mookie Betts experienced a similar situation</a> recently. Betts broke a toe on his right foot after stubbing it at home. He was listed as day-to-day but managed to avoid the IL. He ultimately missed four games due to the injury, including the Dodgers’ World Series rematch against the New York Yankees.</p><p>Lindor is putting together another strong season for the Mets. He’s slashing .279/.353/.490 with 14 home runs, 36 RBI, 42 runs scored, a 141 OPS+ and 2.2 bWAR in 61 games. And <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-francisco-lindor-verge-breaking-curtis-granderson-record">Lindor is on the verge of breaking the franchise record</a> for leadoff home runs in a season. He’s currently started six games by going deep. Curtis Granderson holds New York’s single-season record with seven such games.</p><p>The Mets have won nine of their last 11 games, improving to 39-23. New York moved to the top of the division with a 1.5 game lead over the second-place Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East.
