One of those is in regard to New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, who was ranked No. 17, one spot behind Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz. New York Yankees reliever and former Met Adam Ottavino <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/44479703/mlb-rank-2025-top-100-ranking-audit-players-feedback-hits-misses" rel="noopener">disagreed with that ranking</a>.</p><p>“I feel like there’s a huge separation in actual production at this moment between Lindor and De La Cruz,” veteran reliever Adam Ottavino said, via Buster Olney of ESPN. “I know [De La Cruz’s] ceiling is insane and he’s so fun to watch, but he’s just not anywhere close to Lindor yet, in my mind.”</p><p>Another anonymous player disagreed with Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes being ahead of Lindor, with the common trend being that Lindor has a better track record than multiple players ahead of him on the list.</p><p>“Paul Skenes has amazing stuff,” another player said. “But he’s ahead of Francisco Lindor? Like, a shortstop who plays every day and just finished second in the NL MVP race?”</p><p>Lindor is a player who has often been viewed as disrespected throughout his career. He is on track to have a good case for the Hall of Fame by the time he is done playing. However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-francisco-lindor-100-real-slow-start-2025-season">Lindor is usually a slow starter each season</a>, which means he gets left off of the All-Star Game roster. He has not been to an All-Star Game since 2019, before he was traded to the Mets.</p><p>Last season, Lindor did not make the All-Star Game, but was in a dead heat with Shohei Ohtani for the National League MVP award before a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-mets-francisco-lindor-drops-painful-admission-injury">late-season injury</a> hurt his case.</p><p>It appears that players around the league have a ton of respect for Lindor, and rightfully so.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Though MLB grants players up to three days of paternity leave, the shortstop rejoined the team immediately, watching from the bench as they rolled to a 10-4 win over the Marlins at loanDepot Park. His wife, Katia, gave birth to their first son, Koa Amani, in Orlando, Fla.</p><p>After traveling from Houston, the Mets had Sunday off in South Florida, giving Lindor the chance to witness his son’s birth that afternoon. But did he ever think about sitting out Monday’s game?</p><p>“I wasn’t having the baby – my wife did,” Lindor <a href="https://x.com/NYPost_Mets/status/1906900608533274633" rel="noopener">said in an interview</a> with the Post. “She said it was OK to leave, and I left.”</p><p>Just two days after playfully dismissing the idea that his sluggish start to the season was tied to the impending birth of his third child, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-why-francisco-lindor-could-miss-time-very-near-future">Francisco Lindor welcomed his first son</a>, Koa Amani Lindor. He and his wife, Katia, shared the news in a joint Instagram post. Lindor stayed on the bench for the entire game.</p><p>“This is a guy that wants to show, and wants to perform and help the team. Even when his wife is having a baby, he is still thinking about the team. That’s who he is. He’s a leader,” said the Mets manager.</p><p>Following the birth of his second daughter in June 2023, Lindor sat out a start but later stepped in as a pinch hitter, only to be hit by a pitch. The next day, fittingly on Father’s Day, he wasted no time making an impact, smashing a home run in his first at-bat.</p><p>The Mets powered their way to a commanding 10-4 win over the Marlins, combining steady offensive production with relentless pressure at the plate. The victory brought New York back to .500 at 2-2, while Miami slipped to 3-2. Now <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-juan-soto-gets-100-real-on-francisco-lindor-partnership">paired with superstar right fielder Juan Soto</a>, the Mets are expected to be legitimate World Series contenders in 2025. But so far Lindor has struggled at the plate.</p><p>New York lost the rubber game of its season opening series against the Houston Astros on Saturday and Lindor was <a href="https://x.com/SNYtv/status/1906167675606184406" rel="noopener">asked about</a> his slow start.</p><p>“I’ve got to do a way better job to be on base and to make things happen. And I think once I do that then the offense is going to continue to get better. He had 33 home runs, 39 doubles, 91 RBI and 107 runs scored with an OPS+ of 138 and 6.9 bWAR.</p><p>Lindor helped lead a resurgent Mets club to the playoffs with a red-hot second half as the team reached the National League Championship Series before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2. He won his fourth Silver Slugger Award and finished second in NL MVP voting.</p><p>This season, the Mets boast an intimidating lineup after adding Soto and re-signing Pete Alonso in free agency. Lindor continues to lead off and should be an extremely valuable table-setter with those big bats behind him once he returns to form.</p><p>Soto is off to a strong start with his new team. It does not feel that long ago that he was a rising star shortstop with the then-Cleveland Indians, doing his part to redefine the position by swinging a big bat that perfectly complemented his dependable glove. Despite Lindor’s bountiful talent, his teammates still pushed him hard. He is returning the favor on the New York Mets.</p><p>The 2024 National League MVP runner-up and four-time All-Star admitted that he takes a firm but sincere approach to his leadership style, making it his mission to <a href="https://x.com/FoulTerritoryTV/status/1895565492666188137" rel="noopener">get the most out of the younger ballplayers</a>.</p><p>“I talk a lot of s**t,” Lindor told the “Foul Territory” podcast at Mets spring training camp in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He is continuing the cycle that started in Cleveland, one that preaches tough love. Though, the 31-year-old emphasizes the importance of being supportive while talking trash. That was not always his experience on his former team.</p><p>“There were some players that talked c**p, but they had my back, and they legitimately wanted the best for me,” Lindor recalled. “And others talk c**p because… {I don’t know}. He has taken on a vocal leadership role over the last couple of years and settled in as the face of the franchise following Jacob deGrom’s exit. Juan Soto has a strong claim to that label after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/grading-juan-soto-mets-historic-765-million-contract">signing a historic 15-year, $765 million contract</a> in free agency, but Lindor will still be looked upon as the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-francisco-lindor-heartfelt-message-ny-faithful-2024-season">heart and soul of the squad</a>.</p><p>Since Jose Iglesias might not be returning to New York, the four-time Silver Slugger and two-time Gold Glover (one platinum) is one of the guys tasked with infusing energy and a strong veteran presence in the clubhouse. That job is easier when he is coming through in the batter’s box and on the field, both of which he did plenty of in 2024.</p><p>Lindor batted .273 with 33 home runs and 91 RBIs while slugging .500 and recording <a href="https://www.fangraphs.com/players/francisco-lindor/12916/stats?position=SS#advanced-fielding" rel="noopener">16 outs above average</a>, per FanGraphs. His value can effectively be summed up by a playoff-clinching, heart-stopping two-run blast versus the Atlanta Braves in the first game of a regular season finale doubleheader. Mets fans are eager to see what he has in store for them this year.</p><p>And so are his teammates. Soto’s contributions in 2024 were worth 8.1 WAR, and it helps that the Mets were able to steal the 26-year-old right fielder from their sworn rival New York Yankees.</p><p>Soto is expected to elevate the Mets the same way he did the Yankees last season, and it’s not like the Mets need him to be anyone other than his usual self for them to take the next step into World Series contention. And shortstop Francisco Lindor also sees how Soto can liven up a raucous Citi Field faithful even further with <a href="https://twitter.com/SNY_Mets/status/1870205109214302409" rel="noopener">the way he carries himself</a> in every inning he plays on the field, and every at-bat he’s hell-bent on sticking it to the opposing pitcher.</p><p>“He’s an electric player. That’s going to add to the vibes as well. Also his professionalism. But we’re gonna go out there and give everything we got.
