While he’s not expected to go under the knife to repair the injury, Urshela is going to be away from the action for several months, according to Angels beat writer Jeff Fletcher.</p><p>Urshela fractured his pelvis while trying to reach first base to beat a double-play on a loaded-bases situation in last Thursday’s action against the Texas Rangers in Arlington. Before that game, Gio Urshela missed four straight games because of a sore back.</p><p>This is a tough break for Urshela and the Angels. He has been hitting well for Los Angeles prior to the injury. He concludes his 2023 MLB campaign with a .299 batting average to go with a .329 on-base percentage and .374 slugging percentage across 214 at-bats and 62 games for the Angels this year.</p><p>The Angels initially put Urshela on the 10-day injured list but it became apparent that he will need much more time to recover.</p><p>Gio Urshela, who inked a one-year deal worth $8.4 million with the Angels last February, is expected to hit the free-agent market by the end of the 2023 MLB season. He was traded to the Angels by the Minnesota Twins for Alejandro Hidalgo last November. Urshela took a tumble in the first inning while trying to beat out a double play. The trainers tended to him for a few minutes and he eventually exited the next inning, with Jared Walsh taking his place at first base. Urshela just missed the last four games prior to that with back soreness and it’s believed this is now a hip issue.</p><p>As for Rendon, he was hit by a pitch on the wrist and looked timid in his next two at-bats, actually bunting both times. But, clearly, the X-rays went alright because he’s steering clear of the IL for the Angels. That being said, Rendon isn’t in the starting lineup Friday, with Luis Rengifo playing third base instead.</p><p>Urshela is having a respectable year in Los Angeles, hitting .299 in 62 games with two homers and 24 RBI. Sure, the power numbers don’t jump off the page, but the veteran is smacking a ton of singles.</p><p>As for Rendon, he’s only played in 38 contests and hasn’t exactly impressed, slashed .248 with one long ball. Honestly, the former Washington National has been a massive disappointment since coming over to the Angels considering how good he was in the NL, mostly due to injuries.</p><p>Nevertheless, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/angels-3-players-all-stars-in-2023" rel="noopener">the Angels</a> are 39-32 at the moment and 8-2 in their last 10 games with Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani leading the charge.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

With Carlos Correa’s future still up in the air after he opted out, this signing could come in handy.</p><p>Farmer was an eighth-round pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013 and went on to make his big league debut four years later. He’s played mostly third base and behind the dish, but can also pick it at SS. Farmer was involved in the blockbuster Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig trade with the Reds in 2018.</p><p>The Twins will be intrigued by his versatility. The 32-year-old played 98 games at short and 36 games at the hot corner in 22′, making just nine errors in total. Farmer hit .255 with 14 home runs and 78 RBI as well.</p><p>In return, Cincinnati gets a minor league arm in the form of Casey Legumina, who had an ERA over four in Double-A last season.</p><p>The Twins disappointingly missed out on the playoffs after going 78-84, finishing a whole 14 games behind the Cleveland Guardians, who won the AL Central. The Angels sent minor league pitcher Alejandro Hidalgo to Minnesota in return for the slick fielding third baseman. This is already the second high-profile move the Angels have made during the offseason, the first <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/angels-news-tyler-anderson-leaves-dodgers-for-anaheim-on-three-year-contract" rel="noopener">coming in the form</a> of the Tyler Anderson signing.</p><p>Los Angeles made waves by previously stating that they were <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/angels-gm-perry-minasian-delivers-honest-take-on-shohei-ohtanis-future" rel="noopener">not planning</a> on trading Shohei Ohtani during the 2022 MLB offseason. The announcement raised eyebrows around the league, as Ohtani is set to hit free agency following the 2023 campaign. But it is apparent that this is an Angels team with aspirations of competing.</p><p>As for Gio Urshela, he represents a solid hitter who features quality defense. However, one has to wonder where he play in the field.</p><p>Gio Urshela features the ability to play shortstop and third base. He’s settled in at third over the past few years, but the Halos already have Anthony Rendon locking down the hot corner. With that being said, Rendon has battled no shortage of injury concerns since signing in Anaheim.</p><p>As a result, Gio Urshela will likely become the starting shortstop and backup third baseman. The Angels can DH Rendon when Shohei Ohtani needs rest, and Urshela could take over the position should Rendon face further injury problems. David Fletcher, who played shortstop in 2022, would be able to become the everyday second baseman with Urshela at shortstop.</p><p>In the end, the Angels will have a number of different options for next season.</p><p>Angels fans should be excited by this acquisition. But <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/mlb/new-york-yankees/roster">the team placed him</a> on IL just before the first pitch. In a corresponding move, infielder Mike Ford was recalled from the alternate site.</p><p>Numerous members of the organization received the vaccine on Wednesday. The team issued an accompanying statement:</p><blockquote>“The New York Yankees would like to offer their sincere thanks to Dr. Philip Ozuah, President of Montefiore Medical Center, and the hard-working and dedicated group of medical staff from this Bronx-based hospital,” the statement read, via <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/31223672/vaccine-side-effects-land-new-york-yankees-gio-urshela-covid-injured-list">ESPN’s Marly Rivera</a>, “who have been on-site at Yankee Stadium this evening to administer COVID vaccinations to New York Yankees players, coaches, field staff and support staff. This process has been seamless and efficient, and we are grateful that by receiving the vaccine, we can contribute to stopping the spread of COVID-19.”</blockquote><p>Urshela seems to be dealing with some setbacks after getting the vaccine.</p><p>The 29-year-old has been a critical piece for the Yankees in the past couple of years, hitting .314 with a .889 OPS in 2019 and posting a career-high 138 OPS+ in 2020. He had gotten off to a bit of a slower start in 2021, hitting .261 with a .596 OPS.</p><p>New York is quite used to playing without its starters. The Bronx Bombers have endured a myriad of injuries to Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton in the past couple of seasons and were already without Luke Voit (meniscus) to start the 2021 campaign.</p><p>The Yankees will have to deal with being down another starter with Urshela on the shelf for the time being.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
