The deal is for a guaranteed $4 million and features a $750,000 signing bonus. The contract also includes a mutual $10 million option for 2026, with a buyout of up to $1.5 million — depending <a href="https://x.com/JonHeyman/status/1888000817749189075" rel="noopener">on the number of plate appearances</a> Bader collects this year, according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post. For the Twins, this is only their second Major League signing of the 2024-2025 offseason.</p><p>Bader is entering his age-31 season, and the Twins are the fifth stop on his MLB journey that started with the St. Louis Cardinals back in 2017. Bader spent nearly six seasons in St. Louis before <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cardinals-news-harrison-bader-sends-emotional-farewell-video-to-st-louis-fans-following-yankees-trade">stints with the New York Yankees</a> and Cincinnati Reds in 2022 and 2023. Bader spent his 2024 campaign with the New York Mets, who <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mets-news-new-york-10-5-million-contract-yankees-harrison-bader">signed him for over $10 million</a> back in January of that year.</p><p>A career .242 hitter, Bader slashed .236/.284/.373 in 143 games for the Mets last season. Not known much for his power, Bader slugged 12 home runs last year — his most in a season since he hit 16 back in 2021. Bader’s 57 runs scored and 51 RBIs in 2024 were both career highs. Bader’s OPS+ of 86 for the 2024 campaign is considered below league-average, but it is Bader’s highest mark dating back to 2022.</p><p>Praised for his defense, Bader is a natural centerfielder, as he has logged every defensive inning there since 2018. Bader posted a 2.45 RF/9 last year, slightly off his career-average of 2.62. Bader, a Gold Glove winner in 2021, will join a Twins defense that already has a strong centerfielder in Byron Buxton; nonetheless, Buxton has dealt with plenty of injuries in his career, and the Twins have made it clear they want a defensively-savvy fourth outfielder after losing both Max Kepler and Manuel Margot to free agency this offseason. The Mets are four wins away from their first pennant since 2015 because of Lindor and Pete Alonso’s heroics.</p><p>The playoff began two games early for the Mets and Braves, as they played a doubleheader to earn playoff spots after the season ended. Lindor hit a massive home run in the first game to clinch the playoff spot. If he does, he’ll be joining the best story of the 2024 season.</p><p>The Mets sputtered into June, entering their June 12 game at 29-37. They were 16.5 games back of the Phillies, 10 games back of the Braves, and the third-worst team in the National League. That day, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/how-mets-have-finally-turned-corner-and-its-not-grimace">McDonald’s mascot Grimace threw out the first pitch</a>. Since then, they are the best team in baseball. The purple monster has become a rallying cry for the fans and a new mascot for this run.</p><p>There have been many miracle runs throughout the Mets’ history. Whether it’s 1969, 1973, 1986, 2015, or any other number of seasons, there are great Septembers that turn into magical Octobers. They also have a history of collapsing down the stretch, like 2022 and failing to meet expectations. The Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals in a 6-0 shutout at Busch Stadium, and three of those runs came from a Tyrone Taylor bases-clearing double in the fifth inning.</p><p>Mendoza started Taylor in the 2-hole for the first time this season and for only the seventh time in his six-season career. As Mets centerfielder Harrison Bader put it, the move worked because the Mets won.</p><p>“The game called on Tyrone [Taylor] to step up in that situation,” Bader <a href="https://x.com/SNYtv/status/1820610882423968168" rel="noopener">told reporters</a> after the game. “Mendy looks like a genius in that. Bader should know, having hit everywhere except for leadoff this season alone.</p><p>“I’ve been in that 2 hole a couple times this year,” he said. “It’s a dynamic lineup in the sense that you can plug in a lot of guys in different spots. Obviously being in the lineup, situations are presented to you differently but overall your intention is the same, which is execute on whatever you’re seeing in front of you based on whatever the pitcher’s attacking you with.”</p><p>Coming off a series against the Angels in which the Mets went 6-35 (.171) with runners in scoring position, Mendoza also dropped slugger Pete Alonso to fifth in the order — his lowest spot since 2020. Similar to Taylor, the move worked for Alonso. He picked up a hit, walk, and run scored in the win.</p><p>“That speaks volumes to Tyrone’s game but also speaks volumes to what our lineup as a whole and our capabilities to kind of mix and match if something isn’t right,” Bader added.</p><h2>Mets OF Harrison Bader’s reception in St. Louis ‘means the world’ to him</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Harrison-Bader-Mets.jpg"><figcaption>Jonathan Hui-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The Mets’ game in St. Louis was a one-game stopover to make up for a May 8 rainout. But even the short stay meant something to Bader, who spent the first five-plus years of his career as a Cardinal. The crowd greeted him with a <a href="https://x.com/tamar_sher/status/1820577931594277037" rel="noopener">hearty ovation</a>.</p><p>“It really does <a href="https://twitter.com/SNYtv/status/1820610289659728057" rel="noopener">mean the world to me</a>,” Bader said. “Everybody in St. Louis was just so fantastic to me and my family. There’s just so much love in this city. But Pete Alonso couldn’t hide his excitement at the news on Thursday, perhaps a good sign for relations between Alonso and the franchise.</p><p>Alonso immediately took to Instagram to <a href="https://twitter.com/MLB/status/1742996677588381929" rel="noopener">let the baseball world know</a> he approves of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mets-news-new-york-10-5-million-contract-yankees-harrison-bader" rel="noopener">the Mets inking Bader</a> to a one-year, $10.5 million contract, courtesy of MLB’s account on X (formerly Twitter.)</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/MLB-Odds-Top-home-run-prop-bets-for-5-24-featuring-Pete-Alonso.jpg"></figure><p>“The diesel bros are back baby!!! Welcome back to the orange and blue!!!! #LFGM,” Alonso captioned a photo of he and Bader as college teammates at the University of Florida.</p><p>Alonso and Bader were teammates during the 2014 and 2015 seasons at Florida. The two helped lead the Gators to the College World Series in 2015, with Bader making that season’s All-Tournament Team.</p><p>Following that season, Bader was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the third round of the MLB draft, while Alonso helped Florida make a return trip to the CWS in 2016.</p><h2><b>Bader a welcome sight for Alonso</b></h2><p>A native of Bronxville, New York, Bader is known primarily for his defensive capabilities in the outfield. <a href="https://www.sny.tv/articles/mets-sign-harrison-bader" rel="noopener">Advanced metrics laud him</a> for his abilities in center field as well as his speed, although Bader does have experience in corner outfield spots as well.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/mets-news-new-york-agrees-to-10-million-contract-with-ex-yankees-outfielder-harrison-bader.webp"></figure><p>If Bader can earn the starting center fielder job, Brandon Nimmo, a capable fielder in his own right, would shift to a corner, improving the Mets’ team defense as a whole.</p><p>In addition to improving the team’s glove work, a roster addition that makes Alonso happy is one that makes sense for the Mets. Since last season’s trading deadline, there have been rumors about Alonso’s availability on the market.</p><p>New Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns has said he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mets-news-pete-alonso-likely-not-getting-traded-david-stearns" rel="noopener">expects Alonso to be</a> the team’s first baseman in 2024.
