Their opponents, the defending world champion Dodgers, are looking to close out the NL’s top seed. Ahead of Game 3, the Phillies have elected to keep center fielder Harrison Bader out of the lineup. According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale via X, formerly Twitter, Bader will be available to <a href="https://x.com/BNightengale/status/1976053879990256042" rel="noopener">pinch hit and run</a> as well.</p><p>“Phillies CF Harrison Bader is out of the lineup again but is available to pinch hit, manager Rob Thomson says, and likely would not be removed for a pinch runner if he reaches base,” posted Nightengale.</p><p>Bader was replaced in center field by Brandon Marsh for <a href="https://x.com/JClarkNBCS/status/1976050508340044091" rel="noopener">the second straight game,</a> according to NBCSports’ John Clark on X. Instead, he came off the bench and logged a pinch hit single during the Phillies’ ninth-inning rally that fell just short. Thomson immediately lifted him for a pinch runner.</p><p>With the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/philadelphia-phillies/what-phillies-must-do-to-bounce-back-in-nlds-vs-dodgers">series now shifting to Los Angeles</a> for Game 3, Thomson <a href="https://x.com/MattGelb/status/1975681406329364811" rel="noopener">was not ready to declare</a> Bader’s status for Wednesday night. He called him a “game-time decision,” according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic. Gelb added that Bader is feeling “a little better.”</p><p>As of Game 2, Bader was able to hit, but his inability to run prevented him from playing the outfield or running the bases effectively. That made it a gamble for him to pinch hit in the ninth inning, given that a ground ball double play would have ended the game. It’s unclear if he will be able to do more on Wednesday.</p><p>Thomson said <a href="https://www.mlb.com/phillies/news/harrison-bader-out-of-starting-lineup-nlds-game-2" rel="noopener">before Game 2</a> that the groin strain seemed “very mild,” meaning it did not warrant a playoff IL stint. To do so, they will likely need more from the top of their order.</p><p>Philadelphia’s top third of the lineup — <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/philadelphia-phillies/phillies-news-rob-thomson-harper-turner-schwarber-struggles">Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper</a> — <a href="https://www.mlb.com/phillies/news/bryce-harper-trea-turner-kyle-schwarber-rare-postseason-slump-in-nlds" rel="noopener">are a combined 2-21</a> over the first two games with 11 strikeouts and no extra base hits.</p><p>“I think those guys are trying to do a little too much right now,” Thomson said, via MLB.com. “Instead of just being themselves and looking for base hits and the power will come.”</p><p>For Turner, it’s less about the numbers and more about managing to get the timely hit.</p><p>“We’re getting baserunners, we’re getting walks,” he said. “We’re just not getting that timely hit or that slug.”</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Malik has worked in entertainment and sports, and he specializes in the NBA and NFL.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">MLB</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/philadelphia-phillies/phillies-news-fans-cant-believe-nlds-game-1-collapse-dodgers">Philadelphia Phillies lost Game 1</a> against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, and they feared that they could have lost one of their key players as well. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/philadelphia-phillies/phillies-news-harrison-bader-breaks-silence-injury">Harrison Bader left the game</a> due to groin tightness, and he was set for imaging the next morning.</p><p>It looks like Bader <a href="https://x.com/BNightengale/status/1974860606135308605" rel="noopener">got some good news</a> surrounding the injury, and there’s hope that he could play in the next game, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.</p><p>“Center fielder Harrison Bader’s MRI shows no tear or major strain and Phillies manager Rob Thomson is hopeful he can be available in Game 2,” Nightengale wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Bader was optimistic that he would return to the series after the injury.</p><p>“I definitely feel like I’ll be able to come back, for sure,” Bader said. “We have an off-day tomorrow, we’ll just get some imaging done and go from there.</p><p>“It just felt a little weird. I don’t know, really, what to attribute it to. I made a full-speed diving catch in center and obviously felt good all day swinging and everything — took some pretty intense swings up there prior to that. I just think random things happen, unfortunately.”</p><p>If Bader has to miss any time, Brandon Marsh would be the only player on the roster who has started any games in center field this season. And in the fifth inning, Bader, a former Gold Glove winner during his time with the St. Louis Cardinals, made a big defensive play in the outfield, catching a big fly from Andy Pages with a man on base and zero outs on the board.</p><p>Nick Castellanos was called on to pinch-hit for Bader, who made his first appearance in the MLB playoffs since 2022 with the New York Yankees.
