After all, baseball is not called “America’s Pastime” for nothing. But on Friday, during the Philadelphia Phillies’ 9-3 win over the Miami Marlins on the road, the experience of a father and son was sullied by a woman who claimed that the home run ball that Harrison Bader hit in the top of the fourth inning was already in her possession before he took it.</p><p>Footage shows that the father, indeed, travelled some ways to recover the home run ball. But there is <a href="https://twitter.com/PhilsTailgate/status/1964127753940181226" rel="noopener">no conclusive evidence</a> that the ball was already in the woman’s hands. They are going to take care of the fans in attendance, even if they root for the opposing team.</p><p>As for Bader, he was not about to let the Phillies fans who traveled all the way to Miami go home with such a sour experience sticking in their mind. They’ve won six of their eight games since, and on Friday night, it was a powerful display that got them the win.</p><p>In addition to Bader’s home run, three other Phillies players went yard, with Bryson Stott hitting a three-run dinger, Brandon Marsh adding a two-run long ball, and Max Kepler mashing a solo shot of his own. Since arriving, the veteran outfielder has given Philadelphia manager Rob Thomson a much-needed boost. He continued a great series against the New York Mets with another highlight reel play against Francisco Lindor.</p><p>Bader entered the series with a big chip on his shoulder. The Mets chose not to re-sign him after he put up a respectable season in New York in 2023. Two years later, he finds himself on the roster of New York’s biggest rival. He has been sensational, shoring up their outfield defense and providing offensive pop to their lineup. It was his second homer since joining the Phils and 14th of the season, just two shy of his single-season career high.</p><p>The Mets traded for Helsley from the St Louis Cardinals, and he has been disastrous in the bullpen. His ERA has now ballooned to 10.38 since the trade, with the home run allowed. Helsley had pitched a scoreless eighth inning the night before, which did not carry over into Tuesday.</p><p>The final trade deadline pickup at the center of Tuesday’s affair was Phillies closer Jhoan Duran. He had been dominant since joining the club, with one earned run allowed in nine appearances.
