The Yankees slugger (and former Dodger) needs to heed the timeless words of his <a href="https://youtu.be/fcIH5DQY6U8?si=jc77tSscc2yk9KGa" rel="noopener">former fellow Los Angeleno Ice-T</a> and remember, “Don’t hate the player, hate the game.”</p><p>Bellinger made all of upstate New York do a collective spit take this week when he said he was swearing off chicken wings for five years when a bad batch he ate on the road in Detroit <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/yankees-news-cody-bellinger-puking-his-brains-out-due-to-bad-wings">gave him food poisoning</a>.</p><p>He then added insult to injury by posting a joke pic to his Instagram Stories of a fresh batch of clearly sauced buffalo wings with the caption “Round 2!”</p><p>This was, to put it mildly, a buffalo faux pas — or buffalaux-pas, if you will — on a number of levels.</p><p>First off, Bellinger said himself the wings he ordered were plain — no sauce, no spice rubs, no flavor — so why is he throwing buffalo wings under the bus in his prank post?!</p><p>Secondly, you can’t swear off chicken wings for five years when you play for a team whose state is home to the world’s chicken wing capital — Buffalo, New York!</p><p>And third and most significantly, the true culprit in Bellinger’s food poisoning clearly wasn’t the chicken wings themselves… it’s the fact that he ordered them in Detroit!!!</p><p>What on Earth did Bellinger expect?</p><p>You play half your games in New York, where good Buffalo wings can easily be shipped down to you from upstate in a matter of hours (heck, you can probably afford to Instacart it with what the Yankees are paying you).</p><p>So why in good heavens would you order wings on the road from a hotel in Detroit?</p><p>Maybe Bellinger hasn’t lived in New York long enough yet to realize that you either get your chicken wings from an establishment in Buffalo, or you make them yourself with a bottle of Frank’s Red Hot at home.</p><p>Cody Bellinger’s initials-sharer Cory Booker recently pointed out in his record-breaking speech on the Senate floor that “”there’s only one football team in New York and that’s the Bills.”</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">“There’s only one football team in New York, and that’s the Bills.” — Cory Booker during his historic speech yesterday. <a href="https://t.co/AdIOuG5jWQ">pic.twitter.com/AdIOuG5jWQ</a></p><p>— Rich Luchette (@richluchette) <a href="https://twitter.com/richluchette/status/1907485227032719497?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 2, 2025</a></p></blockquote><p><script async="" src="https://instagram.com/embed.js"></script></p></figure><p>If Cody Bellinger wants to go see the only football team in his new home state play in the offseason then, he best issue a mea culpa for the wings fiasco, and quick.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He studied journalism and communication at UConn.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">MLB</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>New York Yankees outfielder <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/yankees-news-cody-bellinger-puking-his-brains-out-due-to-bad-wings">Cody Bellinger was out of the lineup on Tuesday</a> against the Detroit Tigers due to a case of food poisoning from, ‘bad wings.’ He is back in the lineup for the Yankees on Wednesday in the series finale, and he <a href="https://www.nj.com/yankees/2025/04/yankees-cody-bellinger-makes-promise-after-food-poisoning-clears-air-on-viral-post.html" rel="noopener">made a firm declaration</a> on the next time he will eat chicken wings.</p><p>“I can say that I will not eat wings for five years,” Cody Bellinger said, via Max Goodman of NJ Advance Media. “The thought of it right now makes me sick!”</p><p>Bellinger ordered traditional bone-in wings to his hotel room on Monday while watching the NCAA men’s national championship between Florida and Houston. It was a case of bad luck. He said that the wings seemed fine when he got them, but he woke up early the next morning and threw up for hours.</p><p>“Bad wings, man,” Bellinger said. “They were good coming in, but I woke up at 4 a.m. sweatin’ and just started throwing up for a few hours. It was a tough morning.”</p><p>On Tuesday, Bellinger jokingly posted a plate of wings on his Instagram story with the caption, ‘Round 2!!’. He insisted that the post was a joke.</p><p>“I don’t even want to think about wings,” Bellinger said.</p><p>As far as recovery, Bellinger said he slept a ton and hydrated to get ready for Wednesday’s game. He also noted that he dealt with food poisoning before, with the previous case happening in 2023 when the Chicago Cubs played in London.</p><p>“Slept a ton last night,” Bellinger said. “My one time before, it was 24 hours. Just hydrating and getting ready to play.”</p><p>After a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/yankees-news-cody-bellinger-back-injury-concern-pirates">small back issue over the weekend for Bellinger</a> and now dealing with food poisoning, he is back in the lineup. The Yankees have had a rough first two games against the Tigers. They will look to salvage the last game of the three-game set with Max Fried taking the mound. Additionally, Goodman said that chicken wings could be the culprit behind Bellinger’s sickness.</p><p>With Bellinger sitting out the second leg of the Tigers series, Trent Grisham can be expected to start for the Yankees. That doesn’t like much of an unfortunate situation for New York, given the fact that Grisham has gone 9-for-20 with three home runs and a double to go with a total of nine RBIs in his last five games.</p><p>The 29-year-old Bellinger isn’t exactly having a terrific start to his time with the Bronx Bombers. Through eight games, the former NL Rookie of the Year has slashed .233/.278/.333 with a home run and six RBIs to go along with two stolen bases. He also dealt with a back issue during a previous <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/yankees-news-cody-bellinger-back-injury-concern-pirates">Yankees series against the Pittsburgh Pirates</a>.</p><p>He entered the 2025 season looking to improve on his solid form with the Chicago Cubs. In two seasons with the Cubs, the two-time All-Star slashed 286/.340/.475 with 44 home runs, 175 RBIs and 85 walks drawn while posting a 125 OPS+ across 260 games and 1,015 at-bats. Chicago traded him to the Yankees in December of last year along with cash in exchange for pitcher Cody Poteet.</p><p>Bellinger’s absence also comes amid the Yankees’ struggles. New York has lost four of its last seven games and both of its last two assignments, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/betting/yankees-vs-tigers-prediction-odds-pick-4-7-2025">including a 6-2 defeat in the series opener</a> against the Tigers on Monday. Bryan Hoch of MLB.com recently <a href="https://x.com/BryanHoch/status/1908572158390862318" rel="noopener">provided an update</a> from Bellinger as the Yankees prepare for the second game of the series against the Pirates on Saturday.</p><p>“Cody Bellinger (lower back) took swings in the batting cage and said he is feeling better. Thinks he could be available off the bench today, and the lineup tomorrow is a possibility,” Hoch wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Barring any unforeseen setbacks, it seems as if Bellinger’s back injury concern is not considered to be serious. It will still be a situation to monitor, of course. Bellinger may be available to pinch hit if necessary on Saturday. He also could return to the lineup for Sunday’s game.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/mistrettas-musings-yankees-cody-bellinger-aaron-judge-2025-al-mvp">Bellinger started the season strong</a> with the Yankees. The 29-year-old, who was traded from the Chicago Cubs to New York this past offseason, has cooled off in recent action. Overall, he is slashing .238/.296/.381/.677 across six games played.</p><p>If Bellinger can return and stay healthy, he should have a chance to enjoy a big season in New York. Opposing pitchers have to focus on Aaron Judge which could lead to good pitches to hit for Bellinger and other batters in the lineup.</p><p>For now, Aaron Judge and the Yankees will try to defeat the Pirates once again despite Cody Bellinger’s injury absence. New York earned a 9-4 victory against the Pirates on Friday, as Judge crushed his sixth home run in just seven games.</p><p>The Yankees are in first place in the American League East with a 5-2 record. The ball club appears to be poised to make another run at a division title.</p><p>First pitch for the upcoming Yankees-Pirates game is scheduled for 4:05 PM EST on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Unfortunately, the team will be without Cody Bellinger in this contest after manager Aaron Boone scratched him from the lineup.</p><p>What was originally thought to be a rest day, reports indicate that the 29-year-old outfielder is not playing against the Pirates <a href="https://x.com/BryanHoch/status/1908218388674941169" rel="noopener">after experiencing back stiffness</a>, according to team reporter Bryan Hoch. Boone claims Bellinger’s back was bothering him in Thursday night’s game and the team doesn’t want to force him to play through it.</p><p>“Cody Bellinger is out of the Yankees lineup today due to a stiff back. Aaron Boone said it was bothering him during last night’s game and they didn’t want to push it with their early-morning arrival.”</p><p>Trent Grisham will step in and play center field for the Yankees on Friday instead. This will give Cody Bellinger a chance to nurture his back and possibly bounce back on Saturday or Sunday to wrap up the three-game series against the Pirates.</p><p>The 2023 Comeback Player of the Year is in his first season with the Yankees after playing the previous two years with the Chicago Cubs. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/cody-bellinger-trade-grades-yankees-cubs">New York traded for Cody Bellinger</a> in the offseason in an attempt to improve the lineup after failing to re-sign Juan Soto.</p><p>Through six games played, Bellinger has had 27 plate appearances and has played relatively well so far. He’s currently recording a .238 batting average and a .268 OBP while hitting a home run and six RBIs. New York hopes he’ll be able to bounce back from this injury and get back in the lineup sooner, rather than later.</p><p>Cody Bellinger has been at the center of controversy this season after being one of the few players on the Yankees roster using the controversial torpedo bats.
