Well, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/yankees-news-aaron-judge-espn-ranking-veteran-tripping">ESPN recently released their rankings</a>, and there were many questions about certain players being placed where they are. One of those players was New York Mets’ Juan Soto, who was ranked No. 8 on the list. Apparently, that was too low for a few players, and <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/44479703/mlb-rank-2025-top-100-ranking-audit-players-feedback-hits-misses" rel="noopener">they expressed that</a> with some not-so-kind words.</p><p>“Are you f—-ing kidding?” one of the players asked, via ESPN’s Buster Olney.</p><p>There’s no doubt that Soto is one of the better baseball players in the league today, and though No. 8 seems to be a major compliment, some think that he should be ranked higher.</p><p>If Soto heard about the ranking, he may have felt slighted as well, and that should add more fuel to his fire as he tries to make things happen with his new team.</p><h2><b>Juan Soto looking to have much success with Mets</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Juan-Soto_531f39.jpg"><figcaption>Sam Navarro-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>After being on four teams in four years, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-juan-soto-on-world-series-aspirations">Juan Soto has some stability with the Mets</a> after signing a 15-year deal with them in the offseason. The goal is obviously to win with the Mets, but Soto knows that <a href="https://x.com/MLBONFOX/status/1906122667239121331" rel="noopener">he has time</a> to build a bright future with them as well.</p><p>“I have 15 years [with the Mets]. Definitely, we want to win now. That’s the mindset, but we have a long time to build something special,” Soto told Ken Rosenthal via FOX Sports: MLB on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>“It’s a different feeling. It’s a different mindset. You’re not only thinking of what is going to happen this year, you’re really thinking a long way. And I feel like that’s a different thing from what I was going through the last couple years,” Soto continued.</p><p>Soto has played for the Mets so far to start the season, and they’re currently 3-3 after a win against the Miami Marlins. Soto will no doubt be a major part of how successful the Mets are this season, and he’s played in the biggest stage of them all, so he knows what it takes to get there.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

According to Robert Murray of FanSided, the Mets and pitcher Jose Marte <a href="https://x.com/ByRobertMurray/status/1907835209183277500" rel="noopener">are in agreement</a> on a two-year minor league deal.</p><p>It is worth mentioning that Marte underwent shoulder surgery last season. He is still recovering from the surgery, which is something Murray included in the reporting.</p><p>The Mets seem to view Marte as a pitcher who can impact the ball club next year or possibly even later this season. It is a minor league contract, but Marte could receive an MLB opportunity once he returns from injury. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-juan-soto-on-world-series-aspirations" rel="noopener">Mets have World Series aspirations</a> and extra pitching depth certainly won’t hurt as they hope to achieve their goal.</p><p>Marte most recently pitched with the Los Angeles Angels. He played in Anaheim from 2021-2024, recording a 5.56 ERA along the way. Although that number is not exactly ideal, Marte impressed across 14 appearances in 2024. He ultimately pitched to a stellar 2.33 ERA across those 14 outings out of the Angels’ bullpen.</p><p>Marte could become a reliable reliever once he returns from his shoulder surgery recovery.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-francisco-lindor-100-real-slow-start-2025-season" rel="noopener">Mets have endured a mediocre start</a> to the ’24 season. New York has World Series aspirations as mentioned, but they are still trying to find their rhythm early in the campaign. The good news is that the Mets have plenty of time to turn things around.</p><p>Competing in the National League East will be a challenge, though. The Philadelphia Phillies are playing well. Although the Atlanta Braves are off to an atrocious 0-7 start, they feature the potential to get back on track. Meanwhile, the Washington Nationals could make things interesting as their rebuild continues.</p><p>The Mets, currently 3-3 overall, will attempt to climb over the .500 mark in a matchup on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays. One of those is in regard to New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, who was ranked No. 17, one spot behind Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz. New York Yankees reliever and former Met Adam Ottavino <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/44479703/mlb-rank-2025-top-100-ranking-audit-players-feedback-hits-misses" rel="noopener">disagreed with that ranking</a>.</p><p>“I feel like there’s a huge separation in actual production at this moment between Lindor and De La Cruz,” veteran reliever Adam Ottavino said, via Buster Olney of ESPN. “I know [De La Cruz’s] ceiling is insane and he’s so fun to watch, but he’s just not anywhere close to Lindor yet, in my mind.”</p><p>Another anonymous player disagreed with Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes being ahead of Lindor, with the common trend being that Lindor has a better track record than multiple players ahead of him on the list.</p><p>“Paul Skenes has amazing stuff,” another player said. “But he’s ahead of Francisco Lindor? Like, a shortstop who plays every day and just finished second in the NL MVP race?”</p><p>Lindor is a player who has often been viewed as disrespected throughout his career. He is on track to have a good case for the Hall of Fame by the time he is done playing. However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-francisco-lindor-100-real-slow-start-2025-season">Lindor is usually a slow starter each season</a>, which means he gets left off of the All-Star Game roster. He has not been to an All-Star Game since 2019, before he was traded to the Mets.</p><p>Last season, Lindor did not make the All-Star Game, but was in a dead heat with Shohei Ohtani for the National League MVP award before a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-mets-francisco-lindor-drops-painful-admission-injury">late-season injury</a> hurt his case.</p><p>It appears that players around the league have a ton of respect for Lindor, and rightfully so.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Mets would eventually score two runs in the eleventh inning to close the deal against their NL East rival 6-5. After a slow start, New York looks to be gaining its mojo as it embarks on a championship-or-bust season.</p><p>According to Alonso, this team has a lot of the DNA of last year’s group that made a shocking run to the NLCS. The 2024 New York Mets were renowned for their never-quit mentality and ability to rally from deficits. I am competing out there. I am super focused, and I want to win. Obviously, I gotta tame it down a little bit, but that’s just how I compete.”</p><p>Mets manager Carlos Mendoza spoke on the importance of making sure Vientos is in a good place mentally.</p><p>“You kind of give it a day, and then the next day you talk to him,” said Mendoza. “You’re just making sure that mentally he is in a good place. Pete Alonso had other plans, however, and the game went to extra innings because of it.</p><p>It was a big home run, but some Marlins fans thought that Alonso <a href="https://x.com/HarrySissons69/status/1907575584936415383" rel="noopener">took things too far</a> with his celebration.</p><p>“Bro is bat flipping a tying HR vs the marlins in game 4/162 🤡🫵🤡🫵 alonso is the EASIEST player to hate,” one fan said on social media.</p><p>Other Marlins fans <a href="https://x.com/TruSchoolSports/status/1907570051734974573" rel="noopener">are wondering</a> why the team was even pitching to Alonso in the first place.</p><p>“Why won’t the Marlins just pitch around or walk Pete Alonso? He studied journalism and communication at UConn.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">MLB</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara is making his return from injury in the 2025 season, and he turned in a solid outing against the New York Mets on Tuesday, going five innings and giving up two earned runs. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/miami-marlins/marlins-news-sandy-alcantara-trade-rumors-intriguing-reaction-marlins-president">Alcantara is likely to be one of the top trade targets</a> come the deadline at the end of July, and the Mets are a team that could use another pitcher. New Mets slugger Juan Soto spoke on what acquiring Alcantara <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/04/02/sports/sandy-alcantara-could-be-mets-target-if-he-gets-put-on-trading-block-in-future/" rel="noopener">would mean for the team</a>.</p><p>“It would be one of the best trades that we could have,” Juan Soto said, via Mike Puma of the New York Post. “I know we have great pitching here, but adding a Cy Young winner like that would be huge. … It’s going to take a lot to get him.”</p><p>Alcantara proving he is healthy again and performing early on would only increase his value ahead of the deadline, and although the Mets are a division rival, they could be a team to watch for when it comes to Alcantara. Even before <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-sean-manaea-shut-down-injury-setback">the injuries to Sean Manaea</a> and Frankie Montas, the Mets could have used another starter. Alcantara would be a dream, and Soto, a teammate of Alcantara from the 2023 World Baseball Classic representing the Dominican Republic, believes the pitcher will step up even more when playing meaningful baseball.</p><p>“If he goes to a team that has a chance to compete at the end, I think you’re going to see who he is,” Soto said, via Puma. “He is doing that on a team that has no serious chance to go to the playoffs, but he keeps trying and competing even without run support. Whenever he goes to a winning team you are going to see what Sandy Alcantara is capable of.”</p><p>Alcantara has the upside to win the Cy Young award, like he did in 2022. Soto believes in Alcantara as a pitcher, when it comes to ability and mentality.</p><p>“He’s really smart and he knows what he is doing,” Soto said, via Puma. “He’s really brave. There was hope he’d be ready to go soon but reports indicate that Manaea experienced a set back that has elongated his injury status.</p><p>Mets manager Carlos Mendoza stated that Sean Manaea <a href="https://x.com/SNYtv/status/1907161155195342953" rel="noopener">had discomfort in his oblique</a>, according to SNYtv. Mendoza claims the 33-year-old pitcher will not throw for two weeks and will remain on the injured list.</p><p>“No, [Manaea’s] not gonna throw. He experienced some discomfort a couple of days ago while he was starting to ramp up. We took an MRI again and showed information. So, he got a PRP injection yesterday. Manaea originally suffered an oblique strain in early February which prevented him from playing in any spring training games. Sean Manaea was able to throw by March 10 during spring training and was in line to be placed on the active roster soon.</p><p>Instead, the Mets will be without Sean Manaea for several more weeks. Once these next two weeks are up, the team will likely continue monitoring the veteran pitcher and have him practice simulated games. There’s a chance New York sends him on assignment to play Triple-A ball before he is officially placed on the active roster.</p><p>Manaea signed a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-sean-manaea-agrees-to-3-year-contract-with-mets">three-year, $75 million contract with the Mets</a> in the offseason after playing for the team last season on a one-year deal. He ended the 2024 campaign with a 3.47 ERA and 1.084 WHIP while recording 184 strikeouts through 181.2 innings played.</p><p>With Sean Manaea still dealing with injury, we shouldn’t expect to see him on the mound for the Mets until late April or mid-May. The bat’s mass is spread differently than a usual bat. It is designed to allow batters to inflict a stronger impact on a baseball with their swing.</p><p>While the bats are legal currently, that <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/i-think-theyll-be-banned-whats-the-future-of-mlbs-torpedo-bats-insiders-weigh-in-on-baseballs-new-fad/" rel="noopener">may not always be the case</a>.</p><p>“I think they’ll be banned,” one front-office MLB source said, per CBS Sports. “I think MLB will be compelled to establish a rule to prevent them from getting out of hand, and I think the interests of fairness will direct that rule to be something that more or less bans the torpedo design.”</p><p>The source also thinks torpedo bats can make a difference for a batter.</p><p>“They do have an impact, a non-trivial impact,” the source added. “A lot of it depends on the batter’s control of the bat and whatnot.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/braves-immediately-jump-on-yankees-torpedo-bat-train">The Yankees are not the only team</a> using torpedo bats. New York has a powerful hitting tandem of Juan Soto and Pete Alonso, along with several other stars.</p><p>New York is off to a rocky start, based on those expectations. The team is 2-2 on the season so far. New York did show off some of that firepower in their last game, scoring 10 runs to defeat the Miami Marlins on Monday.</p><p>One of the Mets is actually using <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/which-mlb-players-are-using-torpedo-bats-yankees-lead-the-way-but-other-stars-have-embraced-unique-bat-shape-163246296.html" rel="noopener">a torpedo bat</a>, per a study by Yahoo Sports. Francisco Lindor is supposedly taking part in the trend. On the season, Lindor is actually looking for his first hit after 11 total at-bats.</p><p>The specialized bat may help New York reignite its offense. His wife, Katia, gave birth to their first son, Koa Amani, in Orlando, Fla.</p><p>After traveling from Houston, the Mets had Sunday off in South Florida, giving Lindor the chance to witness his son’s birth that afternoon. The Marlins got off to a good start as they took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but a seven-run fifth inning from the Mets ended up being the difference in the game. The Mets won 10-4, and perhaps the biggest part of the game was when Pete Alonso <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1906862088183828917" rel="noopener">hit a grand slam</a>. Alonso hasn’t looked great at the plate to start the season, so that was a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-lineup-revealed-will-strike-fear-opposing-pitchers">sight to sore eyes for Mets fans</a>.</p><p>Coming into this game, Pete Alonso was hitting .111 through three games. It was too early to panic, but it was still great to see him put together a complete performance on Monday. Alonso had two hits and four RBIs. He is now hitting .231.</p><p><a href="https://x.com/bayerlyfamous/status/1906907467189285277" rel="noopener">Fans of other teams</a> are wishing that they picked up Alonso during the offseason after his big performance against the Marlins.</p><p>“If only the @mariners added Pete Alonso in the offseason,” one fan said. “With 1 at bat he has done more for his team in 2025 than both Rowdy and Salona with 10+ more at bats combined.”</p><p>Alonso <a href="https://x.com/averagemetsfan1/status/1906901167759929724" rel="noopener">is showing</a> that he is worth the money.</p><p>“That’s why you pay Pete Alonso,” another social media user said. “That’s why you make him the highest paid first basemen in baseball. I’ve just got to be aware of the things I’m going through and how to handle them better as the season goes.”</p><p>Holmes has used his array of pitches to help him be the best starter possible.</p><p>“In spring, I did a pretty good job of using my whole arsenal. I’d throw things just because I needed to throw them,” Holmes said. “You have a tendency when you get into games to revert back to what’s comfortable and what you know. For me, just as far as pitch mix the second and third time through, it’s trusting the arsenal.
