The team has kept him in the 55–65 pitch range per start since the All-Star break, aiming to protect his arm with October in mind.</p><p>Despite the rough stretch, Milwaukee does not plan to change its role. Still, the organization is convinced that letting him grow in the rotation is the best path forward.</p><p>“I think we’re learning as we go,” Murphy added, reiterating the plan to keep him as a starter.</p><p>Misiorowski’s struggles have become evident since July. He owns a 7.71 ERA over his last six starts, and in August, his mark climbed to 9.58. However, there have also been signs of progress: he has cut down on walks, thrown more strikes in recent outings, and recorded 10 strikeouts just two starts ago. Against Philadelphia, he allowed only one walk and kept his pitch count under control.</p><p>Milwaukee’s rotation lacks depth, with Erick Fedde enduring a difficult year and other arms locked into bullpen roles. The Brewers had racked up 12 straight wins and they were handing the ball to Jacob Misiorowski for the series opener against the Reds. With the rookie phenom rejoining baseball’s best team after a stint on the injured list, it almost seemed unfair.</p><p>However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-jacob-misiorowski-lasts-4-outs-return-il">Misiorowski struggled</a> in his return from the IL. The first-year starter lasted just 1 1/3 innings, the shortest outing of his young career. Misiorowski allowed five runs on four hits, three walks and a HBP as the Reds jumped out to an early 8-1 lead.</p><p>After the game, Misiorowski <a href="https://x.com/AdamMcCalvy/status/1956567086571958721" rel="noopener">attempted to explain</a> what went wrong in Cincinnati. “First inning, got stupid little hits. I mean, dude hit it a foot and it was a base hit. So it sucks but, baseball,” Misiorowski said, per MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy.</p><p>“The second one, I just lost it. Misiorowski escaped the first inning relatively unscathed as the Reds only managed to score one run on four hits. But he needed 27 pitches to record three outs. And in the second frame, control became an issue.</p><p>Misiorowski started the second inning off with a strikeout but followed it by hitting Tyler Stephenson with a pitch. He then issued three straight free passes, gifting the Reds a run.</p><p>After allowing four straight base runners, Pat Murphy had seen enough and Misiorowski was pulled. He threw 54 pitches in just 1 1/3 innings.</p><p>“I think it was just one of those things that I started overthinking about other things. You can guess what that would be with my comment before. But it just is what it is,” Misiorowski said, referring to issues he had with the mound in Cincinnati.</p><p>The Brewers turned to DL Hall in the second inning but the Reds jumped all over the lefty reliever, running the score up to 8-1. It looked as if Misiorowski would be saddled with his second loss of the season with the team down big early. But there is no quit in this Milwaukee squad.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-christian-yelich-crystal-ball-7-run-comeback-vs-reds">Brewers mounted an improbable comeback</a>, led by Christian Yelich’s two-homer, five-RBI performance. But it ended even sooner than expected as Jacob Misiorowski <a href="https://x.com/CyrtHogg/status/1956497725240787055" rel="noopener">struggled to find the zone</a>, according to Curt Hogg of the Journal Sentinel. Manager Pat Murphy pulled the former first-round pick after Misiorowski walked three straight batters and hit a fourth.</p><p>“Miz did not have the zone this evening. The [Cincinnati] Reds have a run on three consecutive walks and a hit batter. His already-short start is even shorter as Pat Murphy pulls him after getting just four outs. He allowed 8 runners to reach base.”</p><p>Reports indicate Jacob Misiorowski <a href="https://x.com/AdamMcCalvy/status/1956500980675035334" rel="noopener">threw 54 pitches</a> in the 1.1 innings he played on Friday against the Reds, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. His ERA jumped from 2.70 to 4.49.”</p><p>That’s quite the ugly performance. But the good news is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/cincinnati-reds/reds-news-terry-francona-breaks-down-brewers-strengths-ahead-of-blockbuster-series">that the Brewers are</a> 8.5 games ahead of the second-placed Chicago Cubs in the NL Central, as they hold a firm lead in the division. Milwaukee can afford to give Jacob Misiorowski some time to figure things out for now. But ideally, he bounces back strong in his next scheduled outing.</p><p>Additionally, considering the potential Misiorowski showed before the injury, the Brewers are likely not too worried about him having a poor performance on Friday. With <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-jackson-chourio-injury-update-cubs">Jackson Chourio out with a hamstring issue</a>, Brewers manager Pat Murphy was already without one of his stars. Jacob Misiorowski joined him, robbing the rotation of its young phenom. However, Milwaukee got some exciting news about the All-Star before taking on the Cincinnati Reds.</p><p>Misiorowski missed the last two and a half weeks with a tibia contusion. However, Murphy gets his starter <a href="https://x.com/CyrtHogg/status/1956431556463018479" rel="noopener">back on the mound</a> against the Reds on Friday. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg confirmed the news a few hours before the beginning of the game. With their All-Star starter on the mound, the Brewers have a chance to extend the league’s best active winning streak.</p><p>Milwaukee was a surprising team last year. Murphy won Manager of the Year as his team made the postseason for the second straight season. However, the Brewers showed that they still have a lot of growing to do after consecutive Wild Card exits. Now, it looks like Murphy’s team is ready to take the jump into the inner circle of contenders.</p><p>After losing to the New York Mets in the playoffs in 2024, the Brewers avenged the loss last weekend. According to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-blake-perkins-opens-up-play-vs-mets">Milwaukee catcher William Contreras, the team treated it like a playoff series</a>. That kind of mentality fueled two dramatic wins that helped them sweep the series. With that win under their belts, Murphy’s players appear ready for the bright lights.</p><p>Chourio is still out, but expectations are that his return is set before the playoffs start. However, the Brewers celebrate the fact that Misiorowski is back to take on the Reds. Every divisional series means even more at this point in the season, even for a team with an eight-game lead. The Brewers are close to clinching their playoff berth before almost anyone else.</p><p>Misiorowski’s return gives Milwaukee even more momentum. They are by far the league’s hottest team and own a five-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies for the best record in MLB. The Brew Crew has won 10 straight games and are a win away from sweeping another series; however, will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates with Paul Skenes on the bump tonight.</p><p>Ahead of the game, <a href="https://x.com/CyrtHogg/status/1955364774017110291" rel="noopener">three players got injury updates</a>.</p><ol><li>Logan Henderson is on the docket for a target return of late September/early October</li><li>Jacob Misiorowski is slated to throw a bullpen today; could begin a short rehab assignment Friday</li><li>Jake Bauers will begin a rehab assignment Thursday</li></ol><p>Both Logan Henderson and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-jacob-misiorowski-pulls-charizard-amid-milwaukee-win">Jacob Misiorowski</a> are the future of this Brewers rotation. Henderson made history early this season when he pitched very well during five starts, controlling an ERA of 1.78 and a WHIP of 0.99. It’s unlikely the Brewers will use him during their playoff push; however, the ceiling is high for him, and next year he could be a staple of the rotation alongside the flamthrower Misiorowski.</p><p>Misiorowski will be back soon. The Brewers are hotter than satan’s toenails, so it is not like they are going to rush him back. However, the 6-foot-7 hurler is a fan favorite already, and the league is excited that he is pitching well in his rookie season … so much so that he was elected an All-Star, and he hasn’t even pitched in eight games yet. If Misiorowski’s rehab stint goes well this weekend, he could be back by the following weekend as the Brewers get ready to close out August with their foot firmly on the gas pedal.</p><p>Jake Bauers is not having a great season for Milwaukee, but he does have five home runs and 18 RBIs to feel proud of. It’s unclear if he will return to the roster when healthy, but he provides depth as a left-handed hitter.
