Milwaukee took the first two games of the matchup before the series shifted to Chicago. The Wrigley Field crowd spurred the Cubs to back-to-back wins, forcing a decisive Game 5 in Milwaukee. But the Brewers came out on top with a clutch victory Saturday as the home team won all five games in the Division Series.</p><p>Both teams relied on their bullpens in the winner-take-all finale. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-nlds-game-5-starter">Trevor Megill got the start</a> for the Brewers. The All-Star closer worked one inning before Jacob Misiorowski took over. The rookie phenom came through with an impressive performance in his second career postseason appearance.</p><p>After earning his second playoff victory in two tries, Misiorowski <a href="https://x.com/MLBNetwork/status/1977209245238968375" rel="noopener">attempted to describe</a> the atmosphere at American Family Field. “It’s electric in here. I couldn’t ask for anything better,” he said, per MLB Network.</p><h2><b>Jacob Misiorowski earns win in Brewers’ NLDS clincher</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Jacob-Misiorowski-2.jpg"><figcaption>Michael McLoone-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Misiorowski finished strong but he got off to an inauspicious start. Seiya Suzuki welcomed the first-year flamethrower to the game with a solo home run in the top of the second inning. Suzuki belted a 101 mph Misiorowski fastball 390 feet to right center. The blast tied the game at 1-1.</p><p>Despite the setback, Misiorowski managed to make the necessary adjustments and dominated the rest of the way. The 23-year-old All-Star allowed one run on three hits and no walks in four innings. He struck out three batters and hit triple digits on 10 of his 54 pitches.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-andrew-vaughns-game-5-nlds-home-run">Andrew Vaughn homered</a> off Colin Rea in the fourth inning, giving the Brewers a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Aaron Ashby took over for Misiorowski in the sixth. Then Chad Patrick and Abner Uribe combined to hold the Cubs hitless over the final 3.2 innings. Uribe slammed the door on Chicago, closing out Milwaukee’s 3-1 win.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-jacob-misiorowski-completes-feat-not-seen-23-years">Misiorowski made postseason history</a> in Game 5. Milwaukee finally broke the curse, claiming their first postseason clincher since sweeping the Colorado Rockies in Game 3 of the 2018 NLDS, ending a streak of heartbreak in 2019, 2021, and last season.</p><p>The Brewers, who finished the regular season as the No. 1 team in baseball, relied on a combination of rookie brilliance and veteran firepower to advance. All three of Milwaukee’s runs left the park as a result of solo shots from William Contreras, Andrew Vaughn, and Brice Turang.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-milwaukee-strikes-first-william-contreras-nlds-game-5-homer">Contreras initiated the scoring in the first inning</a> off ex-Brewer Drew Pomeranz, while <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-andrew-vaughns-game-5-nlds-home-run">Vaughn’s fourth-inning homer gave Milwaukee a 2-1 lead</a>. Turang provided the final insurance run in the seventh with a 416-foot blast to straightaway center, his first postseason home run.</p><p>However, the star of the evening was rookie Jacob Misiorowski, who threw fire from the bullpen and made history in the process. Entering the game in the second inning, Misiorowski allowed a game-tying solo homer to Seiya Suzuki on only his second pitch, but then put the clamps on Chicago over the next four innings. He scattered three hits, struck out three, and issued no walks, giving the Brewers exactly what they needed to maintain a 2-1 lead.</p><p>He became only the second rookie in Major League history to record wins in each of his first two postseason appearances <a href="https://x.com/OptaSTATS/status/1977204904356987310" rel="noopener">without starting a game</a>, joining Francisco Rodriguez of the 2002 Los Angeles Angels, according to OptaSTATS. The young right-hander mixed 23 sliders and 14 curveballs with just 17 fastballs, a dramatic shift from his regular-season approach of throwing a fastball at least 46.2% of the time. He still reached triple-digit velocity multiple times, including three pitches over 101 mph, and has thrown 25 pitches at or above 101 mph across his first two postseason appearances, the fourth-most since 2008.</p><p>Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy supplemented Misiorowski with a bullpen approach that paid dividends. Aaron Ashby and fellow rookie Chad Patrick handled a sixth-inning jam, with Patrick striking out the side in the seventh. The bats froze in the second half of the campaign, however, and the Milwaukee Brewers overtook the North Siders and the rest of the NL. But October offers everyone a fresh start, and the Cubbies are taking advantage.</p><p>Seiya Suzuki, who is slugging like his first-half self this postseason, <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1977169875077660762" rel="noopener">belted a solo home run</a> off Brewers rookie right-handed pitcher Jacob Misiorowski in the second inning. That 390-foot blast tied the score at 1-1 in Game 5 of the National League Division Series. The Brewers were able to get to Cubs starter Shota Imanaga early, forcing the Japanese lefty to leave the game in the third inning. While Chicago was also able to get to Brewers starter Aaron Ashby, tagging him for three runs in less than two innings, the home team’s bullpen held firm. All-Star rookie Jacob Misiorowski entered in the third inning and took over. He now writes about sports instead as a form of therapy.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Chicago Cubs</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>This year’s NLDS is a bit personal for the Milwaukee Brewers, as they are not just facing division rival Chicago Cubs, they are <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-cubs/cubs-news-craig-counsell-boos-nlds-milwaukee">also facing former manager Craig Counsell</a>, who decided to leave his hometown ballclub for a sworn rival that resides just around 90 miles down south. And the Brewers are certainly playing like they’ve been wronged, as they have taken a 2-0 lead in the NLDS behind a huge power performance from the team gave them a 7-3 win in Game 2 on Monday night.</p><p>The Brewers have remained a very good ballclub even with Counsell’s departure, and even though they’ve lost plenty of crucial contributors over the years, what with the likes of Corbin Burnes and Willy Adames, just to name a few, leaving the team, they have managed to hold steady thanks to the emergence of a few of their key prospects.</p><p>In fact, during Counsell’s final year managing the Brewers (2023), both Jackson Chourio and Jacob Misiorowski, two players who played a crucial role in handing the Cubs the loss in Game 2, were the team’s top prospects. Now, they have emerged as legitimate big-league contributors and are even doing their damage in October.</p><p>After the game, the Cubs manager gave <a href="https://twitter.com/CyrtHogg/status/1975417523144433727" rel="noopener">his honest thoughts</a> on seeing the players he worked with in the past come back to haunt him and his new team.</p><p>“They’re both really talented players. The Brewers’ faith in him was rewarded immediately.</p><p>Meanwhile, Misiorowski has displayed incredible stuff in the big-leagues, and at 23 years of age, it’s only a matter of time before he blossoms as a mid to top-of-the-rotation-caliber starter for the Brewers.</p><h2><b>Cubs have their backs against the wall</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Cubs-1B-Michael-Busch.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mlb-stories/mlb-news-brewers-cubs-combine-for-never-before-seen-historic-mlb-postseason-feat">Cubs could not have started Game 2 of the NLDS any better</a>, with Seiya Suzuki hitting a three-run home run to get things started for the away team. But they could not add to their run tally for the next eight innings while the Brewers ran away with the game thanks to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/brewers-news-jackson-chourio-demolishes-pitch-for-massive-3-run-hr-vs-cubs">monster home run from Chourio</a> and a solid relief appearance from Misiorowski.</p><p>The Cubs will need herculean efforts to prevent them from snatching their former manager’s chain in the postseason.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
