It seems like just a matter of time until the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-luis-robert-jr-believe-hasnt-been-traded">White Sox trade Luis Robert</a>. The centerfielder had a great spring training, and now that the regular season has begun and the White Sox are again struggling, a trade could be right around the corner. The Philadelphia Phillies seem like an ideal trading partner for the White Sox, but what trade package makes sense for both sides?</p><h2><b>Phillies trade proposal for Luis Robert</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Luis-Robert-1.jpg"><figcaption>David Banks-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><b>Phillies receive: </b>Luis Robert</p><p><b>White Sox receive: </b>Justin Crawford (Phillies No. 3, MLB No. 63), Gabriel Rincones Jr. (Phillies No. 10), Aroon Escobar (Phillies No. 13)</p><p>The Phillies have been World Series contenders for years now, but they haven’t been able to bring home the Commissioner’s Trophy with their current core. Contenders who need to get over the hump tend to make trades during the regular season, so a Robert to Philadelphia trade makes a lot of sense.</p><p>The Phillies are stacked on offense, so Robert would fit right in because he has middle-of-the-order talent. Having so much talent around him would take some of the pressure off and potentially change how teams pitch to their lineup. He’d help on defense as well. Robert has killer speed, which is something the Phillies lack.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/white-sox-news-chicago-dealt-luis-robert-injury-blow-amid-playoff-push">Robert has struggled with injuries</a> and plate discipline at times during his career, but at his best, he is one of the rare true five-tool players in baseball. He has <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/roberlu01.shtml" rel="noopener">hit as many</a> as 38 home runs in a season, and he has a .338 batting average year to his name. Robert is a somewhat high-risk, high-reward trade target due to his injury history, but he can also outplay what is expected of him as of now due to his star-level potential. The return on investment could be huge in a Robert trade because his trade value isn’t super high right now.</p><h2><b>Taking a look at the rebuild in Chicago</b></h2><p>In 2016, the White Sox blew things up and started one of the biggest rebuilds in the MLB has ever seen. They traded every one of note from their roster and created the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mlb-stories/top-10-mlb-farm-systems-ahead-of-2025-season"> best farm system in baseball</a> at the time. Over two days, Chicago traded Chris Sale and Adam Eaton away for Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Dane Dunning, Reynaldo Lopez, and Lucas Giolito.</p><p>The team would continue to trade for, draft, and sign elite prospects over the next couple of years. Perhaps the face of their rebuild was Robert. The outfielder from Cuba signed a contract as an international free agent with the White Sox in 2017, and he eventually agreed to a six-year, $40 million deal in 2020 before even reaching the major league level. Not long after that, he established himself as the best player on the team.</p><p>The rebuild seemed to pay off, as Chicago looked like a legitimate World Series contender by 2021. That year, they won 93 games with a young roster that looked like it could contend for years to come. Robert was looking like an All-Star caliber player, and he’d win that award in 2023, but the wheels fell off for the outfielder and his team quickly.</p><p>By 2024, the team had to blow things up yet again and start their rebuild over. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/worst-mlb-teams-history-white-sox-record-breaking-season">White Sox had one of the worst seasons ever,</a> as they went 41-121. That set the record for the most losses in the modern era. Over the course of the last two seasons, the team has been trading all of their veteran talent, a lot of which were among their prized prospect possessions only a few years prior.</p><p>They’ve held onto Robert so far, but a trade is inevitable. Holding onto the star made sense last year, considering his trade value was at an all-time low due to poor play and injuries. Robert seems to be stringing together a good run of health and production, though, and that is helping rejuvenate his trade value. When said trade value reaches a perceived maximum, the White Sox should cash in on a trade that brings in even more young talent. A <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6251430/2025/04/02/twins-white-sox-takeaways-correa-buxton-rain-delay/" rel="noopener">3-hour, 20-minute delay</a> pushed back first pitch and left the team stuck in a holding pattern at Guaranteed Rate Field. But instead of letting the delay derail them, the Twins found rhythm in the chaos, riding a dominant outing from Pablo López and a power surge at the plate to a 6-1 victory and their first series win of 2025.</p><p>“I was going insane,” López said of the delay. “It’s hard to turn it off and then turn it back on. But I was able to relax a little bit.”</p><p>López, who also dealt with a rain delay on Opening Day, took a pregame nap for the first time in his career—just like teammate Byron Buxton, who later joked that the nap gave him “a little extra juice.” On the 10th pitch of the afternoon, Buxton launched a 466-foot solo homer to center field, giving the Twins an early jolt.</p><p>From there, López set the tone. He retired 14 of his first 15 batters and didn’t allow a walk, scattering four hits and one run over seven innings. The only blemish was a solo homer by Brooks Baldwin in the seventh. Otherwise, he was clinical, throwing 12 pitches in the first inning—two for strikeouts—and keeping the White Sox off balance throughout.</p><h2><b>Pablo Lopez dominates on the mound for Twins</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Pablo-Lopez.jpg"><figcaption>Matt Marton-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>“I talked about it with some of the guys: ‘Let’s just go out there and attack,’” López said. “For the first three, four games, we carried away from that mentality.”</p><p>The Twins backed their ace with timely offense. Buxton’s leadoff homer set the tone, and Harrison Bader followed up in the fourth with a three-run blast to left, extending the lead to 4-0. Bader now leads the team with three home runs and eight RBIs, all coming off right-handed pitchers—traditionally a weak spot in his career.</p><p>“There’s obviously more to it than just pure numbers,” Bader said. “Every time you get a chance to be in a lineup, you get a chance to change that perception.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/twins-news-carlos-correa-sounds-off-on-minnesotas-quiet-offseason-as-health-improves">Carlos Correa also broke out of his 0-for-18 slump</a>, hitting a single in the third and doubling in the fifth. After reaching first, he lifted his arms in mock celebration as teammates jokingly called for the ball to be saved like a milestone hit.</p><p>“No frustration, just relief,” Correa said. “I didn’t know what to do anymore.”</p><p>Defensively, Buxton and Correa added to their strong nights with highlight-reel catches in swirling wind conditions. With the win, the Twins moved to 2-4 on the season, joining a five-way tie atop the AL Central.</p><p>“It’s like, ‘OK, we remember how to win,’” López said. “Once you get that first one, it’s easier to find your groove.”</p><p>With the rain delay behind them and momentum finally building, the Twins return home for their opener against the Houston Astros on Thursday, hoping this victory signals a turning point.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

This past offseason, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/angels-news-angels-trying-resurrect-2-time-all-stars-career">Anderson signed with the Los Angeles Angels</a>. The Angels are currently in Chicago to play the White Sox during Opening Weekend, and Anderson <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/2025/03/28/achicago-white-sox-tim-anderson-return/" rel="noopener">recently commented</a> on his time with his former ball club, via LaMond Pope of The Chicago Tribune.</p><p>“(Chicago is) always going to be a huge part of me,” Anderson said. “This is where it all started. That chapter is just all love. There’s a lot of love for me. I enjoyed my time here for sure.”</p><p>The White Sox ended up defeating the Angels by a final score of 8-1 in Anderson’s return. Anderson, a two-time All-Star, has struggled in recent seasons. He is hoping to get back on track in Anaheim with the Halos.</p><h2><b>Tim Anderson was a star with White Sox</b></h2><p>Anderson earned back-to-back All-Star selections in 2021 and 2022 with Chicago. From 2019-2022, he recorded at least a .301 batting average in each season. In 2019, led the American League with a .335 batting average.</p><p>In 2023, though, Anderson hit just .245. Things got even worse in Miami, as Anderson hit .214 with a .463 OPS. The former All-Star’s past two seasons have been forgettable, but the Angels believe he can turn things around. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-ex-batting-champ-gets-brutally-honest-on-career-hitting-rock-bottom-out-of-nowhere">Anderson is hoping to find his footing</a> with his new ball club.</p><p>Meanwhile, the White Sox have also endured a few miserable seasons in recent memory. Last season the Angels and White Sox combined to win just 104 games as both teams missed the playoffs. This season, White Sox GM <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-chicago-gm-ridiculously-low-bar-2025">Chris Getz set a low bar for the team</a>, simply hoping to win more games than last year.</p><p>However, in the season opener, the Angels made Chicago <a href="https://x.com/SamBlum3/status/1905387790189105472" rel="noopener">look like championship contenders</a>. LA lost 8-1 to the White Sox. “It was a very ugly day for the Angels. They recorded just five hits. They needed a position player to pitch. A bad start,” The Athletic’s Sam Blum wrote on X.</p><p>The position player forced to take the mound for Los Angeles in the blowout was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-add-former-cubs-infielder-opening-day-roster">former Cubs infielder Nicky Lopez</a>, who was signed and added to the Angels’ roster the day before the season opener. While Lopez offers positional versatility, it’s unlikely he expected to make his LA debut as a pitcher.</p><h2><b>The Angels reach a new low</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Ron-Washington.jpg"><figcaption>James A. Pittman-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The game was actually manageable through seven innings. Yusei Kikuchi made his Angels debut after the team signed him to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-los-angeles-signs-yusei-kikuchi-63-million-contract">three-year, $63 million deal</a> this offseason. He went six innings and allowed three runs on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts.</p><p>Unfortunately the wheels fell off the wagon in the eighth when rookie reliever Ryan Johnson took the mound. He gave up five runs in 1.2 innings of work, including two home runs as the White Sox cracked the game open.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-top-angels-prospect-drops-crazy-message-shockingly-making-roster">Johnson made the Angels’ Opening Day roster</a> despite never throwing a pitch in the minor leagues. Los Angeles selected Johnson in the second round of the 2024 draft and promoted him directly to the majors. He’s just the 24th player in baseball history to make the leap to a Big League club without spending any time in the minors. And that lack of experience showed as Chicago hammered him Thursday.</p><p>Angels fans were not thrilled with seeing their team get taken behind the woodshed by the White Sox, who lost a record 121 games last season. Reactions on social media were far from optimistic.</p><p>Los Angeles hasn’t reached the postseason in 10 years. And if Opening Day is any indication, that streak will continue. Except if you are a Chicago White Sox fan. After a historic 121-loss season last year, they <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/editorials/garrett-crochet-trade-grades-for-red-sox-white-sox">traded Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox</a>. After seeing that move, many assumed that White Sox centerfielder Luis Robert Jr would be the next player traded. He even thought <a href="https://x.com/k_williamsmedia/status/1904990668117717177?s=46" rel="noopener">he was going to start this year</a> on a new team, per Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times.</p><p>“Center fielder Luis Robert Jr. on if he expected to still be on the White Sox roster: ‘Honestly, no.’”</p><p>A story broke before spring training <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mlb-rumors-reds-failed-luis-robert-jr-trade-white-sox">that the White Sox and Cincinnati Reds were close on a Robert trade</a>. But Cincy wanted Chicago to retain more salary on the deal. The financials killed the deal that would have included two of the Reds’ top ten prospects.</p><p>The Phillies need a centerfielder, the Mariners desperately need a bat, the Yankees needed to replace Juan Soto, and the Astros were looking to replace Kyle Tucker. But the White Sox did not trade Robert, bringing him into a season with no expectations. They have to trade him to get the most out of the asset and help accelerate their rebuild.</p><h2><b>The White Sox must trade Luis Robert Jr. this season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Luis-Robert-Jr-with-Chicago-White-Sox-7.jpg"><figcaption>Sergio Estrada-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Robert has an incredible ceiling, shown in his 2021 and 2023 seasons. In 68 games in 2021, he had an incredible .338 batting average and .946 OPS. But he got hurt that year, which has been the story of his career. Robert has only played 100 games twice in his five-year career. His 145-game 2023 campaign ended with 38 homers, 80 RBIs, and the Silver Slugger.</p><p>This <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/player/_/id/22648/luis-robert-jr" rel="noopener">is the final year</a> before a club option in Robert’s contract. The White Sox should not be paying him $20 million next season as their rebuild starts to turn the corner. It will be quicker for them to trade him for multiple pieces than to try and build a competitive team around Robert. This is the season to trade him, and there should be plenty of offers.</p><p>The Reds are the obvious fit for Robert. Their pipeline is great, but it does not have outfield depth. Their offseason addition of Austin Hays is not going to get them over the hump. But Cincinnati is not in the business of spending money, and the White Sox want to shed as much of the contract as possible.</p><p>Robert and many fans are surprised that he is still on the White Sox. That leaves their roster in an even worse spot heading into another dark year of the rebuild.</p><p>Former Cincinnati Reds general manager Jim Bowden <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6228831/2025/03/25/mlb-predictions-2025-vladimir-guerrero-extension-kyle-tucker-phillies/" rel="noopener">predicted in-season moves</a> for The Athletic and can see his former club adding Luis Robert Jr. as Chicago keeps tearing it down.</p><p>“The MLB trade deadline is loaded with wheeling and dealing, which gets an early start during the All-Star break as the White Sox send center fielder Luis Robert Jr. to the Reds for shortstops Edwin Arroyo and Tyson Lewis along with right-hander Luke Hayden,” Bowden wrote.</p><p>Rumors surfaced this winter that the Reds and White Sox had almost completed a Luis Robert Jr. trade. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/cincinnati-reds/mlb-rumors-reds-failed-luis-robert-jr-trade-white-sox">Ken Rosenthal reported that the Reds were not comfortable with how much of Robert’s</a> salary they were asked to take. Arroyo, who Bowden added in his deal, was a part of those conversations.</p><p>The Reds are looking to power out of their rebuild and contend for the NL Central title. Bringing in Robert would be the move that could put them over the edge.</p><h2><b>Reds should make a big splash to support this core</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Luis-Robert-Jr-with-Chicago-White-Sox-6.jpg"><figcaption>Matt Marton-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While the Reds have not made the playoffs in this era, they have a solid core to build around. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/reds-news-matt-mclain-shoulder-surgery-cost-entire-2024-season">Matt McLain is healthy and back in the lineup</a>, Noelvi Marte is back from suspension, and Hunter Greene is a legit ace. That does not include Elly De La Cruz, who is an MVP candidate after a ridiculous season last year.</p><p>Their great prospect pipeline does not have many outfielders, and Robert could be the answer to that problem. But his injury issues are a red flag that teams may want to avoid him in a trade. But his incredible seasons in 2021 and 2023 show the upside that would drive up the cost.</p><p>The Reds would give up a haul to get Robert from the White Sox in Bowden’s mock trade. Arroyo is their fifth-ranked prospect, Lewis the ninth, and Hayden the 30th overall and 14th pitcher. The White Sox got four prospects for Crochet. Of course, the White Sox only won 41 games in 2024 as the team set the record for the most losses in a season with 121. Unfortunately, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-chicago-gm-ridiculously-low-bar-2025">Getz’s laughably low bar</a> is beginning to look like a challenge as Chicago is dealing with <a href="https://x.com/CST_soxvan/status/1903500352017871238" rel="noopener">significant injuries</a>.</p><p>Rookie pitcher Drew Thorpe will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, according to White Sox reporter Daryl Van Schouwen on X. Additionally, infielder Brandon Drury fractured his left thumb.</p><p>For Thorpe, this is the latest setback in a tumultuous start to his career. After being drafted in the second round by the New York Yankees in 2022, Thorpe was included in the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/grading-yankees-padres-blockbuster-juan-soto-trade">blockbuster Juan Soto trade</a> with the San Diego Padres ahead of the 2024 season. The Padres then shipped Thorpe to the White Sox as part of the Dylan Cease deal.</p><h2><b>The White Sox lost rookie pitcher Drew Thorpe for the season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Drew-Thorpe.jpg"><figcaption>Matt Marton-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>In 2024, Thorpe was a highly-regarded prospect, <a href="https://www.mlb.com/milb/prospects/2024/top100/" rel="noopener">ranking 85th</a> in MLB.com’s Top 100 list. However, instead of allowing the young pitcher to develop in the minors while Chicago endured a brutal, hopeless season, the White Sox called Thorpe up straight from Double-A and he made his Major League debut in June.</p><p>Thorpe’s first big league stint lasted just nine starts as his season was cut short when he needed surgery to remove a bone spur from his pitching elbow. The results in a limited sample were underwhelming – he had a 5.48 ERA, 1.263 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 44.1 innings pitched for the White Sox. Nonetheless, he was still well regarded by the organization and expected to be part of the rotation in 2025.</p><p>As he recovered from last September’s surgery, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-pitcher-suffered-soreness-setback-during-offseason">Thorpe had a soreness setback</a>. This delayed his offseason preparation. He just made his first spring training appearance in the minors on Thursday when he felt discomfort in his elbow. Now he’ll need Tommy John surgery, which will keep him sidelined for over a year.</p><p>The other injury announced by the White Sox isn’t as severe. Brandon Drury is a journeyman infielder who’s played for seven teams over his 10-year career. He had a down year with the Los Angeles Angeles in 2024 but he was quite productive the previous season, hitting 26 home runs and knocking in 83 runs with a .803 OPS in 125 games.</p><p>Drury signed a minor league deal with the White Sox this offseason and he’s played very well this spring, slashing .410/.439/.821 in 13 Cactus League games. He was expected to make the Opening Day roster for Chicago. His loss is significant as Drury provides versatility with the ability to play all infield positions other than shortstop as well as the corner outfield spots. His jersey features his iconic number 1 and nickname “Pooh.”</p><p>Maybe this will get White Sox fans to the park on Opening Day. Rose is an iconic Southsider, rising from the Englewood neighborhood to NBA MVP for the Bulls. If <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/white-sox-news-jerry-reinsdorf-considering-selling-team-121-loss-season">fans are not interested in supporting Jerry Reinsdorf</a> and the team throughout the season, maybe they will support one of the city’s most iconic athletes.</p><p>After Rose leaves the field on Opening Day, the White Sox will send out a similar lineup that lost 121 games last year. They start against the Angels, who also had a poor season last year. Getting started with a win would be huge, especially with Rose in the building.</p><p>Despite the low expectations for the White Sox this year, they are building for the future. Their trade of Crochet landed them four of the Red Sox’s top 15 prospects. If any of them make their debut this season, they are going to bring fans to the park. But for the beginning of the season, it will be a tough scene at Rate Field. He will certainly be getting a trial by fire as he tries to start the campaign off on the right foot. The White Sox won just 41 games in 2024, so fans would love to have something to cheer about.</p><p>One White Sox player that is returning is Luis Robert Jr. The club needs a huge season from the outfielder, in order to avoid another disastrous season. Last year, Robert struggled through some of the worst numbers of his career.</p><p>The White Sox’s young star hit at just a .224 batting average. In 100 games played, he mustered only 35 RBIs. White Sox GM Chris Getz is certainly not applying much pressure, telling reporters he thinks Chicago will win more games in 2025 than the previous season – a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-chicago-gm-ridiculously-low-bar-2025">preposterously low bar</a>.</p><p>The team has made some additions, including signing 11-year veteran Michael A. Taylor to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-chicago-agrees-contract-outfielder-michael-a-taylor">one-year, $1.95 million deal</a>. However, Taylor is already banged up. He was forced to miss the White Sox’s spring training game against the Mariners Saturday with a right <a href="https://x.com/scottmerkin/status/1895928177442337142" rel="noopener">elbow inflammation</a>.</p><p>“We’ll get some more information. I think he goes in this afternoon to get some imaging and just continue to evaluate and hope he progresses,” Chicago’s manager Will Venable said of Taylor’s ailment, via MLB.com’s Scott Merkin on X.</p><h2><b>White Sox defensive ace Michael A. Taylor is dealing with elbow inflammation</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Michael-A-Taylor.jpg"><figcaption>Troy Taormina-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While Taylor has been solid in the field throughout his career, winning a Gold Glove in 2021 for his work in center, he brings little in the way of offensive production. Last offseason, several teams including the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mlb-rumors-mets-among-teams-interest-michael-a-taylor">Mets showed an interest in Taylor</a>, placing an emphasis on defense. However, after a rough season with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2024, Taylor’s market dried up.</p><p>The soon-to-be 34-year-old outfielder played 113 games for the Pirates last year. He slashed .193/.253/.290, producing an OPS+ of 52 before the team ultimately released him in September. Taylor went unclaimed and received little interest until the White Sox signed him in February.</p><p>Taylor has a career on-base percentage of .290 to go along with a career OPS+ of 80. He profiles as a late-inning defensive replacement for most teams. But it’s unclear how the White Sox plan to use him when he recovers from his elbow inflammation.</p><p>Chicago also <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-andrew-benintendi-spring-training-injury-update">lost left fielder Andrew Benintendi</a>, who suffered a broken hand after being hit by a pitch Thursday. His time in the Windy City could be coming to an end, especially with the franchise expected to have another disappointing season. They may look to finally move the veteran.</p><p>Garrett Crochet, Yoan Moncada, Tim Anderson, and Jose Abreu are all gone. Robert Jr. is the only one remaining from the White Sox core. Regardless, he’s trying to <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/luis-robert-jr-focused-on-health-in-white-sox-camp" rel="noopener">live in the moment</a> as a member of the Chicago roster, no matter what happens.</p><p>Via MLB.com:</p><p>“I try to enjoy this time here. I try to enjoy being with my teammates and the clubhouse. Just trying to enjoy the whole experience.”</p><p>When Crochet was moved to the Boston Red Sox, Robert felt like he was next:</p><p>“Yes, a little bit,” Robert said. “I know during the offseason there were a lot of rumors flying around and you see reports with my name in there. But my agent told me, ‘If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen. But don’t try to pay attention to it.”</p><p>His family are on the same page as well:</p><p>“They said it’s something we can’t control and at the same time, just like me, they are kind of anxious to see what’s going to happen because they’ve seen me just play for this one team here, right?” Robert said. “Like I said before, this has been the only team I’ve played for. But that’s part of this business. Nothing we can control.”</p><p>After an impressive 2023 campaign, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/white-sox-news-luis-robert-eloy-jimenez-trending-opposite-directions-injuries">2024 was difficult for Robert Jr due to injuries</a>. He played in just 100 games, slashing .224 with 14 home runs. The White Sox aren’t expected to be much better this season after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/boston-red-sox/red-sox-news-boston-finalizing-blockbuster-garrett-crochet-trade-white-sox" rel="noopener">trading ace Garrett Crochet</a> to the Boston Red Sox.</p><p>Now Chicago’s already weak roster has become a <a href="https://x.com/whitesox/status/1895230860112339017" rel="noopener">bit weaker</a> after Andrew Benintendi suffered a non-displaced fracture of his right hand, according to the White Sox’s official account on X. The team anticipates the veteran left fielder will miss four to six weeks as he heals from the injury.</p><p>Benintendi led the White Sox with 20 home runs last season in an otherwise forgettable year. In two seasons with Chicago, he’s produced an OPS+ of 91. In 2024, he finished with -0.8 WAR, which was the fifth worst output on a team with a dearth of talent.</p><p>Benintendi is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-andrew-benintendi-breaks-silence-on-signing-in-chicago" rel="noopener">Chicago’s highest paid player</a>, due to make $17.1 million in 2025. Obviously the team is hoping he can bounce back to his Gold Glove-winning form of 2021 so they can trade him mid-season. However, the injury, sustained when he was hit by a pitch in a spring training game, will make a potential trade all the more challenging.</p><p>With Benintendi set to miss a month or more of the season, the team will need to find a replacement for him in left. It’s possible former Texas Rangers’ slugger Joey Gallo has his contract selected. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-joey-gallo-tries-revive-career-signs-contract">White Sox signed Gallo to a minor league deal</a> that included a non-roster invite to spring training.</p><p>The idea of replacing a struggling Benintendi with an even harder struggling Gallo is somewhat depressing. But it’s a very White Sox move. Chicago has made three playoff appearances over the last 19 years, going 3-8.
