Ramirez was hit in the right forearm by the first pitch of the fourth inning by Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman.</p><p>Ramirez stayed in the game to run the bases, as he was able to steal second base. When it was time for the top of the fifth, Ramirez was not on the field.</p><p>Guardians manager Stephen Vogt recently <a href="https://x.com/MLBNetworkRadio/status/1938641024940695862" rel="noopener">shared an update</a> on Ramirez, and he doesn’t sound like he’ll be playing in their next game.</p><p>“He’s probably not going to be able to play tonight,” Vogt said. “Thankfully, the X-rays were negative, and we’re hoping it’s not going to be too long. Jose won’t start today; he might be available off the bench late in the game, but we have to be careful. When it was time for the Blue Jays to take the field in the bottom of the fourth, he was removed due to injury.</p><p>Though Ramirez and Guerrero both suffered injuries, they don’t seem to be that serious, and their X-rays both came back negative. Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman spun a gem against the Guardians, but fans on both sides are worried. Toronto first baseman <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-vladimir-guerrero-jr-suffers-injury-scare-after-hbp">Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was hit by Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee</a> and left the game. One inning later, Gausman hit Jose Ramirez.</p><p>Both perennial All-Star candidates left the game and did not return. Both the Blue Jays and the Guardians are near the front of the American League Wild Card race. Each infielder is also on track to represent their team in the 2025 All-Star Game.</p><p>Gausman appeared apologetic after hitting Ramirez, but Vogt and Cleveland did not buy it. For a game that did not involve two teams in the same division, Thursday’s clash was a chippy one. Even though the Guardians showed fight as they defended their star, they failed to score against Gausman and the Blue Jays.</p><p>For two teams trying to make up ground in their division, each game is crucial. Both squads are 5-5 over their last ten games, leaving the door open for teams like the Los Angeles Angeles and Texas Rangers to surpass them in the AL standings.</p><p>Both Ramirez and Guerrero Jr. scared their respective fanbases when they left Thursday’s game. Toronto and Cleveland will monitor their stars’ health closely moving forward.</p><p>Each player is too important to his team to come back earlier than absolutely necessary. It’s the third time in his illustrious career that he’s led in all six categories 65 games into a season. He went 2-for-4 with a run scored, as he extended his hitting streak to a career-high 19 games. Both of Ramirez’s hits against the Dodgers were also doubles. With those hits, he’s now <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/cleveland-guardians/guardians-news-jose-ramirez-cleveland-tris-speaker-pirates">fourth all-time in franchise history</a> with 376 doubles, passing Joe Sewell on the list.</p><p>Ramirez’s consistency even against top pitchers has <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/jose-ramirez-extends-career-best-hitting-streak-to-19-games" rel="noopener">gotten the attention of his teammate</a>, Steven Kwan, who went hitless on four at-bats versus the Dodgers.</p><p>“It doesn’t matter who it is,” Kwan said of Jose Ramirez following the loss to Yoshinonbu Yamamoto and the Dodgers (h/t Tim Stebbins of MLB.com). “He obviously put some great at-bats up against Yamamoto. He put some great ones up against Skubal. I feel like that’s how I know him. He can put up any kind of at-bat against any kind of pitcher.</p><p>“It’s almost weirder when he’s not doing what he does now. So I think that just speaks to his consistency. It’s a lot of fun when he’s like this. Hopefully we can capture that momentum,” Kwan, who was an All-Star in 2024, added.</p><p>During his 19-game hitting streak, the 32-year-old Jose Ramirez has hit an <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=ramirjo01&amp;t=b&amp;year=2025" rel="noopener">incredible .387/.446/.667</a> with four home runs, seven doubles and a triple. He also came up with 11 RBIs and five stolen bases over the same stretch while posting a 1.112 OPS.</p><p>As pointed out as well by Stebbins, Ramirez, a six-time All-Star, has missed his swings just 17 times over the course of his hitting streak.</p><p>Jose Ramirez will look to keep it going in the second game of the Dodgers series, as Los Angeles gives the ball to scheduled starter Dustin May. He’s put the franchise on his back and has had a variety of compliments about his game.</p><p>However, he sustained <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/baseball-injury-updates" rel="noopener">a rather unusual injury</a> on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays.</p><p>Ramirez sustained a mild ankle sprain in the third inning. He was hit in the back by a throw from Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt, tumbled over first base, and stayed down after the fall, according to MLB.com.</p><p>On the season, the Guardians slugger is batting .261 with five home runs and 15 RBI. The numbers don’t do justice for how impactful he is.</p><p>He’s been with the franchise his entire career and has been the culture. Cleveland is second in the American League Central division with an 18-13 record.</p><p>Although it’s not entirely Ramirez, he sets the tone for the franchise and how players are supposed to play. Guys like Bo Naylor and Angel Martinez see what the long-time veteran does.</p><h2><b>Guardians will be without Jose Ramirez for an unknown time</b></h2><p>As of writing this, there isn’t an official timetable for Ramirez to return. However, considering this is a mild ankle sprain, it’s not the worst thing in the world.</p><p>With guys like Naylor and Martinez, they can carry the load and help the Guardians stay on track.</p><p>Now, the team will be without one of its most consistent players. As a third baseman, he helps keep the bag secure, as well as being an elite hitter.</p><p>After all, Ramirez has <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/ramirjo01.shtml" rel="noopener">five Silver Slugger awards</a> to his name, and even won one in 2024.</p><p>The Guardians will likely have a slow and steady approach for his recovery. Considering this is a mild ankle sprain, that might be the best thing they could’ve asked for.</p><p>Still, ensuring a smooth and speedy recovery is the top prerogative for the team. Keeping that separation and inching closer to first place is enticing.</p><p>With <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/cleveland-guardians/guardians-news-jose-ramirez-hall-of-famer-analyst-says">Ramirez being labeled a potential future Hall of Famer</a>, his impact transcends on the field production.
