He has not played 100 games in a single campaign since 2021 and has barely logged a full season’s worth of action in his first four years with the Colorado Rockies. Injuries have ravaged his career, making it incredibly easy for Father Time to track him down. Bryant is not ready to comply, however.</p><p>Despite currently <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-news-kris-bryant-eyeing-experimental-treatment-back">enduring a back issue</a> that he says has affected his day-to-day life, the 33-year-old <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/2025/11/01/kris-bryant-rockies-career-contract/" rel="noopener">has no intentions of retiring</a>, per The Denver Post’s Patrick Saunders. He wants to stick around The Show and return to competition. Considering all the obstacles the four-time All-Star has faced since landing in The Mile High City, it is hard to fathom him making a worthwhile comeback. The body is not often ignored, but neither is $81 million.</p><p>Rockies fans do not expect Bryant to forego the remaining salary left on the seven-year, $182 million deal he signed in March of 2022, so his defiant stance should not come as a surprise whatsoever. They can only hope, that after a painfully long run of futility, they are due for some good luck.</p><p>An improbable Kris Bryant resurgence would give people a reason to believe in Rockies baseball again. Colorado caught a glimpse of what the former Chicago Cubs pillar could do in his first season with the National League West ballclub, as he posted a .306 batting average and hit five home runs in 42 games. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-news-kris-bryant-makes-hurting-admission-amid-injury-return-pursuit">Injuries have persisted</a>, though. The back is a particularly sensitive area for an athlete, and Bryant has yet to find a solution after all this time.</p><p>His Rockies future appears the same as the present and past: extremely bleak. But the man wants to see this through. For his sake, and that of the fan base, Bryant will ideally overcome his ailments and be able to just focus on baseball. The 2025 <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-cubs/cubs-news-kyle-tucker-pete-crow-armstrong-89-year-all-star-history">Cubs squad led by Pete Crow-Armstrong and Kyle Tucker</a> has fans thinking back to the 2016 team that won a title. When the Cubs asked fans who they would like to bring from the past to the present, the overwhelming response was Colorado Rockies third baseman Kris Bryant.</p><p>Fans jumped all over the question posed by Chicago on their social media page.</p><p>“If you could add any player from the 2016 Cubs to the current Cubs team, who would it be and why?” the Cubs asked.</p><p>Other answers to the question were Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber. While both players have had success since leaving Chicago, they were key pieces to the team’s championship run. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/philadelphia-phillies/phillies-news-kyle-schwarber-all-star-game-mvp-hr-derby-takeover">Schwarber is still just as good, coming off a heroic performance in the All-Star Game</a>. Rizzo is a bit older, but fans want him and Bryant to return and help the Cubs win another championship.</p><p>“The Cubs have a black hole at 3B so anyone not choosing Kris Bryant who literally won the MVP that year at 3B doesn’t know ball,” one fan <a href="https://x.com/mainevent_the/status/1945993758731833353" rel="noopener">commented</a>.</p><p>“2016 NL MVP,” <a href="https://x.com/visiontoKAT/status/1945846154517704862" rel="noopener">said</a> another. “To fill the void at 3rd as Shaw continues to develop.”</p><p>“The answer is obviously Kris Bryant,” another <a href="https://x.com/NFLDRAFTBLOG/status/1945888212309930036" rel="noopener">said</a> before explaining the pick. “The only other option I’d remotely consider is Lester. One of the many factors is their low payroll, but their one highly-paid player hasn’t been helping either. Rockies outfielder and designated hitter <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/rockies-news-kris-bryant-makes-hurting-admission-amid-injury-return-pursuit">Kris Bryant has been dealing with a back injury</a> and <a href="https://x.com/harding_at_mlb/status/1941910818754375901" rel="noopener">is considering experimental treatment. </a></p><p>Rockies DH Kris Bryant said his back still isn’t responding to running, but he is able to work out and do light hitting,” Thomas Harding of MLB.com reported. “He plans a phone consult with a New York doctor tomorrow and will visit another doctor in Dallas as he considers “experimental treatment” shy of surgery.</p><p>Bryant has played 170 games in four seasons with the Rockies since 2021, when he signed a seven-year deal. He is looking to avoid surgery so he can return to Colorado and make an impact. “With his back disk issue, Rockies DH Kris Bryant says a surgery would be fusion, which would make returning as a pro athlete difficult. After a strengthening program and an ablation procedure this year, he is seeking something that will get him on the field this year,” Harding continued.</p><p>The Rockies entered Sunday’s series finale against the Chicago White Sox with a 20-69 record. That is a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/editorials/2025-mlb-power-rankings-vol-16-mid-season-checkpoint">162-game pace of 36.4 wins, well below the White Sox’s record low of 41 from last season</a>. Bryant has played only 11 games, picking up six hits in 41 plate appearances with a dreadful .400 OPS.</p><p>Bryant has fallen off significantly since his 2016 NL MVP and multiple All-Star appearances with the Chicago Cubs. The Rockies have not been a great team since he joined, but his high salary has prevented them from making moves to improve the team around him. There’s no doubt that there have been <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-kris-bryant-makes-honest-crying-admission-amid-injury-frustrations">injury frustrations for the Rockies’ third baseman</a>, as Bryant speaks about his recovery process.</p><p>Providing more insight into what he’s going through, Bryant would not hold back and say, via Thomas Harding of MLB.com, that when he runs, he’s <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/kris-bryant-experiencing-pain-while-running-in-rehab" rel="noopener">“hurting.”</a> Still, the activity has been ramped up as Bryant wants to make a return to the field, but there’s no denying it will take time.</p><p>“I’m just being completely honest,” Bryant said. “When I do run, I am sore — not just sore, but hurting. We’ve determined to keep trying and see if it continues, if it improves. That’s where I’m at. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t thinking that some days I see light at the end of the tunnel, some days I don’t.”</p><p>“I want to do everything I can,” Bryant continued. “I want to play baseball. It’s fun when you’re on the field. And the last couple years are really the first time in my whole life of playing baseball where I’ve had to deal with things like this, and it’s been just extremely frustrating for me, waking up and being in pain each day. That’s just really frustrating. But I’m doing my best to have a good attitude and stay with this rehab plan.”</p><h2><b>Kris Bryant has witnessed major changes with the Rockies </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Kris-Bryant-with-Colorado-Rockies-i.jpg"><figcaption>Isaiah J. Downing-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While the injury to Bryant makes fans realize the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-news-kris-bryant-fires-back-at-critics-who-questioned-182-million-decision-to-sign-with-colorado">contract of $182 million that the Rockies gave to him</a>, and if it was truly worth it or not, it’s hard to see that one could’ve envisioned such a rare injury. However, Bryant has the mindset of just going with the flow and following the path that he’s instructed to take.</p><p>“I’m not an expert in any of this,” Bryant said. “I’m trying to take the advice of the PT and training staff, what they think is best, and I’ll just keep going with it.”</p><p>The team has made changes since the stint with the injury, as Bud Black was fired and Warren Schaeffer was made the manager, but Bryant says he brings a “really good vibe.”</p><p>“It’s a really good vibe that Schaeff is bringing in here, and it’s been fun to see him as a big league manager,” Bryant said. “I’ve really loved watching Tyler Freeman and his at-bats. It’s amazing to see Jordan Beck coming into his own, getting a lot of opportunities. Ryan Ritter looks like a ballplayer. I love watching him, with all the emotion of his first hit. And top Cubs prospect <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-cubs/cubs-news-top-prospect-reacts-getting-nod-tokyo-series-vs-dodgers">Matt Shaw could make his MLB debut</a> in the season opener.</p><p>Should Shaw earn the everyday <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/what-to-expect-from-cubs-prospect-matt-shaw-in-mlb" rel="noopener">third base job</a>, he would be the first Cubs rookie to man the hot corner since Kris Bryant in 2015, MLB.com’s Jim Callis noted. Bryant went on to win NL Rookie of the Year that season before leading the Cubs to a World Series title and taking home NL MVP honors in 2016.</p><h2><b>The Cubs’ top prospect is headed to Tokyo</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Matt-Shaw.jpg"><figcaption>Allan Henry-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Cubs believe they’ve found the team’s next cornerstone infielder in Shaw. The <a href="https://www.mlb.com/milb/prospects/top100/matt-shaw-807713" rel="noopener">19th overall prospect</a> in baseball has hit at all levels since being drafted by Chicago in 2023. Now he’s on the brink of his major league debut.</p><p>Shaw is getting the opportunity to break in at third base after the Cubs traded Isaac Paredes to the Houston Astros in the Kyle Tucker deal. While an oblique strain threatened his availability for the Tokyo Series, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-cubs/cubs-news-top-prospect-injury-180-from-prior-report">Shaw overcame the injury</a> and returned to the team after a brief absence.</p><p>Shaw continued his hot hitting during spring training. While he was forced to miss 10 days with the injury, he got in six games and slashed .313/.421/.375. On Tuesday night Cubs fans will find out if it was enough to earn the starting nod from manager Craig Counsell.</p><p>It could come down to a matter of necessity as Chicago will be short an infielder in Tokyo. Second baseman <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-cubs/cubs-news-nico-hoerner-injury-update-good-out-tokyo-games">Nico Hoerner won’t be playing in Japan</a> as he’s still recovering after undergoing surgery on his flexor tendon in October. This cracks the door wide open for Shaw.</p><p>While Bryant is an obvious comparison for the rookie third baseman with plenty of offensive power, the Cubs hope Shaw has a different career arc.</p><p>Bryant experienced a sharp decline after leaving Chicago as injuries have severely impacted his career. He was traded to the San Francisco Giants in 2021 and then landed a massive seven-year, $182 million contract with the Colorado Rockies in 2022. But he’s played in just 159 games over the last three years and had the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-news-kris-bryant-dealing-harsh-2024-reality">worst season of his career in 2024</a>, taking the field just 37 times due to a back ailment.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
