Well, Boston Red Sox second baseman Luis Urias, who might as well have been Manny Ramirez his last couple outings, indeed bombarded the Bronx Saturday afternoon.</p><p>The 26-year-old from Mexico hit a back-breaking grand slam <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/yankees-new-york-gerrit-cole-red-sox" rel="noopener">off ace Gerrit Cole</a> in the second inning of what would be an 8-1 win, an encore after the grand salami he blasted in his last game against the Washington Nationals on Thursday.</p><p>Urias <a href="https://twitter.com/OptaSTATS/status/1693019790661529729" rel="noopener">is the first player</a> since 1901 to accomplish such a feat in back-to-back games from the ninth spot in the batting order, according to OptaSTATS. It was not that long ago when many fans were wallowing after finding out that the former Milwaukee Brewers player would be Boston’s top trade deadline acquisition. Now, he is making absurd MLB history.</p><p>That does not exactly take the organization off the hook. It still remains to be seen if more reinforcements were needed to push the Sox into October. Though, Urias is fitting in nicely through nine games. Although this uncommon burst of power is unlikely to last, he is earning himself a regular role on the club.</p><p>His homer quickly made the rivalry clash a runaway and helped deliver the Yankees their seventh-consecutive loss. Boston, true to form, is starting to heat up again following a recent slump. It trails the Seattle Mariners by two-and-a-half games and is two behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the final wild card slot.</p><p>Gritty, unheralded “role players” can be the lifeblood of a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/beantown-rundown-chris-sale-trevor-story-back-time-red-sox-make-playoff-push" rel="noopener">big playoff run</a>. In a Red Sox season that is near impossible to pinpoint, perhaps Luis Urias’ history-making power bonanza is not all that crazy. Luis Urias’ injury <a href="https://twitter.com/Brewers/status/1642174084225331201">has prompted</a> the Brewers to promote outfielder <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/brewers-news-milwaukee-makes-big-decision-on-former-yankees-star-after-opt-out-twist" rel="noopener">Joey Wiemer</a> to Milwaukee’s major-league roster.</p><p>Starting third baseman<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/brewers-acquire-luis-urias-eric-lauer-from-padres-for-trent-grisham-zach-davies" rel="noopener"> Luis Urias</a> suffered a hamstring injury in the Brewers’ 4-0 Opening Day loss against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. Brian Anderson will replace Urias at third base in the starting lineup. Wiemer will replace Urias on the roster until he’s ready to come off the injured list.</p><p>The Brewers selected Wiemer in the fourth round of the 2020 MLB Draft. Before being called up, Wiemer was listed as the No. 3 prospect in Milwaukee’s <a href="https://www.mlb.com/prospects/brewers">minor-league system</a> and the No. 90 prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.</p><p>Wiemer nearly made the Brewers’ Opening Day roster. The 24-year-old had been set to start the season in Nashville with Milwaukee’s Triple-A affiliate. Instead, he will play right field for the Brewers.</p><p>Wiemer played 127 games between Double-A and Triple-A in the 2022 season. The outfielder hit .256/.336/465 with 21 home runs and 31 stolen bases. The Brewers’ prospect also had 14 outfield assists last year.</p><p>In 42 spring-training at-bats, Wiemer hit .262/.319/.429 with two home runs and three stolen bases.</p><p>Urias went 0-4 against the Cubs in the season opener. Milwaukee’s starting third baseman hit .239/.335/.404 with 16 home runs in 119 games last season.</p><p>The Brewers are back in Chicago on Saturday at 2:20 p.m. ET for the second game of a three-game series with the Cubs.
