Going into the offseason, there’s a good chance that they could <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6738377/2025/10/23/mlb-offseason-trade-targets-tarik-skubal-jarren-duran/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=mlbtw&amp;source=mlbtw" rel="noopener">make some moves</a> as they try to reset their roster. The first person that some would think of is Mike Trout, but instead, it could be Jo Adell, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic.</p><p>“Adell broke out this year, belting a career-high 37 home runs with a .485 SLG. He ranked in the 76th percentile in batting run value, 90th percentile in xwOBA, 96th percentile in xSLG and Barrel% and 99th percentile in bat speed,” Adell wrote. “He’s a below-average defender in the outfield, however, with a below-average arm, and is better suited for left field rather than center.</p><p>“The Halos control him for just two more years and should dangle him in trade proposals now as they must rebuild their starting rotation and their inventory of long-term controllable assets. His trade value is the highest it’s been since he was drafted in the first round back in 2017. The Reds and Pirates could have interest.”</p><p>With Adell having high trade value, this may be the best time to ship him for assets. Suzuki ended his 15-year career with the Angels, playing two seasons. He then became a special assistant in the front office. Now, Suzuki is in control and hopes to get this Angels team back on track, though it will not be easy.</p><p>His contract details are coming out, and it has been reported that Suzuki <a href="https://x.com/SamBlum3/status/1981097410865877234" rel="noopener">signed a one-year deal</a>, which is another shocker. Sam Blum, who covers the Angels for The Athletic, reported the deal.</p><p>“Kurt Suzuki is on a 1-year contract. That’s pretty surprising. Not typically the terms of any managerial hire. Keep in mind they couldn’t come to terms on money/years with Pujols.”</p><p>Albert <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-albert-pujols-interviews-manager-job">Pujols interviewed with the Angels</a>, but they could not agree on anything. The Angels wasted no time moving on to Suzuki.</p><p>With Suzuki only signing a one-year deal to be the manager, the thought that he will be a long-term option seems unlikely. This could have been the same offer that Albert Pujols received, which led to the talks ending.</p><p>Outside of a few players, the roster is not talented. The Angels have not made the postseason since 2014. It is going to be a difficult ride for Suzuki as manager, but the ball club feels he is the man for the job right now. He has a power-hitting outfield led by Mike Trout. LA won’t have many elite years of Trout left, and it’s hard to believe they will quickly change the direction of the ball club.</p><p>Suzuki was teammates with some of the players on the roster and knows the team well. One day removed from seeing their rival Seattle Mariners bounced from the ALCS, LA decided to close the deal on their new manager.</p><p>Kurt Suzuki, the longtime catcher who played for the Angels, is now the manager, according to <a href="https://x.com/jeffpassan/status/1980681225980313908?s=46" rel="noopener">Jeff Passan of ESPN</a>.</p><p>“The Los Angeles Angels are hiring Kurt Suzuki as manager, sources tell ESPN. Suzuki, 42, spent 16 years as a major league catcher and has spent the last three seasons as a special assistant to Angels general manager Perry Minasian.”</p><p>Suzuki replaces Ron Washington, who was the former manager, and Ray Montgomery, the interim manager.</p><p>Los Angeles <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-albert-pujols-officially-out-los-angeles-manager-race">interviewed Albert Pujols for the job</a>, but he was out of the running in the latest update.</p><p>Suzuki had a lengthy career playing from 2007 to 2022. He became a veteran catcher that a good number of teams wanted on their roster. He played for the Oakland Athletics for the majority of his years, but ended his career playing two seasons with the Angels. Suzuki was a big part of the Washington Nationals’ World Series run in 2019.</p><p>Suzuki was not much of a power hitter, but he hit 143 home runs in his career. He had a lifetime batting average of .255 and an OPS of .702. As primarily a backup catcher, he took on the role of being a player-coach toward the end of his career. LA is on the hunt for a new manager. And, for a moment, it appeared the Angels had something exciting in the works. Albert Pujols was the top candidate to become the next Angels manager. But then, suddenly, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-albert-pujols-officially-out-los-angeles-manager-race">Pujols was out of the running</a>.</p><p>Still, another popular former player drew interest from the team. With the Angels passing on Pujols, Torii Hunter moved to the forefront. It seemed like a promising fit. Hunter wants to manage and he has ties to the organization. He played five seasons for the team, from 2008-2012. And he’s served as a special assistant to general manager Perry Minasian since 2024.</p><p>But the Angels <a href="https://x.com/BNightengale/status/1980458871228625250" rel="noopener">were, apparently, unimpressed</a>. The Angels hired the veteran manager prior to the 2024 campaign. Now the franchise is looking for a fresh start.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-rumors-albert-pujols-front-runner-los-angeles-manager-job">Pujols was considered the frontrunner</a> for the Angels job after expressing interest and receiving an interview. The future Hall of Famer spent 10 seasons with the club (2012-2021) and also has a special assistant role with LA.</p><p>However, he didn’t see eye-to-eye with the organization on a number of important issues, including the coaching staff and compensation. It’s unclear why the Angels dropped Hunter as a candidate.</p><p>Neither Pujols or Hunter have any Major or Minor League coaching experience. However, Pujols managed in the Dominican Republic Winter League. And he’ll helm the country’s team in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.</p><p>The Angels have missed the playoffs for 11 straight years – it’s the longest active playoff drought in baseball. It’s been 16 years since the team last won a postseason game. It’s a particularly stunning fact considering that Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani combined to win five MVPs and two Rookie of the Year awards in that time.</p><p>Ohtani failed to reach the playoffs in his six seasons with the Angels. He signed with the Dodgers prior to the 2024 season. He graduated from NYU in 2012 and still returns to serve as PA announcer and occasional broadcaster for the school’s basketball and volleyball teams.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Los Angeles Angels</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Once considered the favorite to be the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-rumors-albert-pujols-front-runner-los-angeles-manager-job">next manager of the Los Angeles Angels</a>, Albert Pujols <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/10/20/sports/albert-pujols-angels-break-off-manager-talks-as-padres-orioles-loom/" rel="noopener">is no longer</a> a candidate for the job, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.</p><p>“Pujols was the Angels’ top choice at the start but the sides differed on coaches, resources and compensation,” Heyman wrote. “Parameters were discussed.”</p><p>With Pujols out of the mix, the team has a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-manager-pursuit-albert-pujols-rumors">slew of internal candidates</a> that could take the job. Kurt Suzuki and Torii Hunter, who both have roles in the organization’s front office, are the leading candidates according to Heyman. Former Astros manager and current third base coach <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-ex-astros-manager-la-managerial-ring-bo-porter">Bo Porter has also publicly stated he is interested</a> in the job.</p><p>Whoever ultimately becomes the next manager of the Angels will have their work cut out for them. Los Angeles has not finished above .500 since 2015 and has not won a playoff games since 2009, the same year the team drafted Mike Trout out of high school.</p><p>With Trout now entering his mid-30s and years removed form his last All-Star season, time is running out for one of the best players this century to make his mark in October.</p><p>The Angels are coming off a 72-90 season in which manager Ron Washington stepped away from the team in June for health reasons and did not return. The team announced after teh season that he would not be back for 2026.</p><p>As for Pujols, Heyman adds that he is still in the running for the San Diego Padres and Baltimore Orioles managerial positions. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune reported on Monday that the Padres <a href="https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2025/10/20/padres-plan-to-interview-albert-pujols-for-manager-position/" rel="noopener">have reached out</a> to Pujols and plans to interview him as they try and replace Mike Shildt, who abruptly retired last week.</p><p>There’s no indication that the Orioles have reached out to Pujols yet, but if they do, the club can perhaps lure him with a roster of young talent that should be ready to contend soon.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Angels announced at the end of the season that he would not return.</p><p>“I expressed my interest to [owner Arte Moreno] that I would love to interview for the job,” Porter said. “That’s something [general manager Perry Minasian] would have to take back to Arte and they can make that decision. I believe I have a lot to offer to any organization that gives me a second chance.”</p><p>Porter managed the Astros from 2013 to 2014 and, after spending some time on the Atlanta Braves’ staff after that, was off the field for seven seasons. Joining Washington’s staff in 2024 made him want to manage again.</p><p>“Now that I’ve been back on the field with managerial experience, you see the game through a different lens, the game slows down because you’ve been in that position where you made those decisions,” Porter said. “I’m better prepared to manage. Los Angeles <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/angels/2025/10/10/albert-pujols-angels-manager-interview-rumors/86461199007/" rel="noopener">has interviewed</a> former Major League Baseball player Albert Pujols for the job, per USA Today. Pujols is eager to land a job managing a MLB team.</p><p>“For me, I’ve always been serious about everything that I do in this game,” Pujols told USA Today in March, “and now I’m serious about managing. This game has done so much for me, and now, I want to give back.</p><p>“I’m ready.”</p><p>The Angels have the longest current MLB playoffs drought. It’s been more than a decade since Los Angeles made the postseason. The club just finished the 2025 season with a 72-90 record.</p><h2><b>Angels are hoping to hit a home run with their next manager</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Angels-players.jpg"><figcaption>© William Liang-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-ron-washington-says-firing-wasnt-related-health">Angels chose to move on from Ron Washington</a>, despite a promising start to the 2025 season. Washington had health issues he had to address. He said <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6677427/2025/09/30/angels-ron-washington-let-go-reasons/" rel="noopener">he hoped to keep managing</a> the team.</p><p>“You know, when you’re a competitor, and you’re in charge, none of that stuff comes into play,” Washington said, per The Athletic. “Sometimes you’ve got to make chicken salad out of chicken s—.</p><p>“I have to accept that. I can’t go back to argue with them to try and tell them different when they’ve made a decision. … We were starting to perform better.”</p><p>The next manager will have a job to do with rebuilding Los Angeles. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-unfortunate-offensive-stat-surfaces-as-playoff-drought-continues">Angels have struggled for years</a>, even despite having Shohei Ohtani for years. It <a href="https://www.mlb.com/angels/news/ron-washington-ray-montgomery-won-t-return-to-angels-in-2026" rel="noopener">was a tough blow</a> to lose Ohtani in free agency, before the 2024 season.</p><p>“This is a huge hire,” Angels general manager Perry Minasian said, per MLB.com. “We need to nail it, can’t miss it. There’s so many different qualities you look for, right? You obviously want somebody that understands people, understands the game, has a presence, there’s respect. I can name 5,000 qualities that you’d like to have but at the end of the day for this particular group we’ve got to nail this one.”</p><p>The general manager says he understands the fans’ frustration.</p><p>“I’m worried about going forward, making the team better, obviously, hiring the right manager,” Minasian said. “There was some progress from last year to this year in the win column. Obviously not enough to go where we want to go. So we need to improve the team. It’s said the two had a positive meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, and that a contract for the manager job is potentially being discussed.</p><p>“Albert Pujols met with Angels general manager Perry Minasian on Thursday night in St. Louis to discuss the team’s managerial opening, league sources told The Athletic. The meeting with the three-time MVP is believed to have gone very well, and the two sides are having preliminary discussions on a deal, though there is no agreement yet, according to a league source. An announcement is not expected to be imminent.”</p><p>Rumors suggest that it’s essentially up to Pujols, as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-rumors-albert-pujols-front-runner-los-angeles-manager-job">Angels owner Arte Moreno seemingly wants</a> the 11-time All-Star to be the next manager. Blum and Woo also report that former outfielder Torii Hunter is a possible candidate for the manager job. However, it appears Hunter may be a backup option.</p><p>“Pujols has been the favorite choice of Angels owner Arte Moreno. The club declined to pick up the option on manager Ron Washington’s contract on Sept. 30. At this point, sources say, it is essentially Pujols’ choice of whether he wants the job.
