The pair of incidents came just four days after he returned from an oblique strain.</p><p>Before the strain, Muncy had missed a month due to a bone bruise in his knee. Across 93 games this season, the Texas native has cracked 17 home runs and earned an .864 OPS. According to Baseball Savant, he ranks in the 82nd percentile <a href="https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/max-muncy-571970?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb" rel="noopener">in terms of Batting Run Value.</a></p><p>Muncy has endured a challenging number of injuries this season, but has taken <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/max-muncy-exits-game-after-hit-by-pitch-on-helmet" rel="noopener">a stoic approach</a> to the tribulations.</p><p>“As of right now, we’re OK. Jaw hurts a little bit, but I did get hit in the face,” Muncy told MLB.com. “But I played enough football growing up. Know all the signs I need to be looking for, and I don’t have any of those, so it’s obviously good. He endured a particularly scary moment in Saturday night’s game versus the San Francisco Giants. The two-time All-Star was hit in the back of the head by left-handed pitcher Matt Gage, who immediately looked up to the sky and put his glove over his face. Somehow, Muncy stayed in the game and took his base. <a href="https://x.com/billplunkettocr/status/1967068100307939361" rel="noopener">He was removed</a> in the next half-inning, though, per Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett.</p><p>This injury comes a day after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-max-muncy-exits-giants-game-wrist-injury">Muncy was drilled in the wrist area</a>, which came just four days after he returned from <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-max-muncy-talks-journey-back-il-oblique-injury">an oblique strain</a>. Before that, he missed a month of action after suffering a bone bruise in his knee on a collision at third with Chicago White Sox outfielder Michael A. Taylor. The 35-year-old is being pushed to his physical limits this season.</p><p>Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was <a href="https://x.com/ByJackHarris/status/1967068428814205281" rel="noopener">planning on replacing</a> Muncy at the hot corner because of Friday’s hit by pitch, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, so perhaps his exit is more precautionary than anything else. Though, it is only natural to worry when a batter gets drilled in his helmet. Hopefully, the club will have good news to share regarding the two-time World Series champion’s health.</p><p>Despite all the pain he has endured in 2025, Max Muncy is putting together one of the most productive campaigns of his career. He is batting .252 with 17 home runs, 64 RBIs, a .388 on-base percentage, .476 slugging percentage and .866 OPS through 93 games. When active, the veteran southpaw adds vital length to a lineup loaded with MVPs and All-Stars. Perhaps the Dodgers can win the title without him, but neither the team nor its fan base wants to find out.</p><p>We can only pray that Muncy is not feeling any effects from getting hit in the head. Los Angeles will look to bounce back on Saturday and announced.</p><p>Smith, who’s dealing with a bone bruise in his right wrist, was ruled out. However, Muncy <a href="https://x.com/FabianArdaya/status/1966985370740162926" rel="noopener">has been cleared to play</a>, per The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya.</p><p>“As expected, Max Muncy is in the Dodgers lineup and Will Smith is not,” Ardaya reported.</p><p>Dodgers manager Dave Roberts says Smith is <a href="https://dodgersnation.com/dodgers-will-smith-could-go-on-injured-list-as-injury-lingers/2025/09/13/" rel="noopener">close to being at full strength</a>, per Dodgers Nation.</p><p>“It’s still there. The team swept the Colorado Rockies, extending their win streak to four games. And the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-los-angeles-pitching-exemplified-new-mlb-record">Dodgers’ rotation dominated</a> over the last week as the team makes a final push for the division crown.</p><p>Unfortunately, not everything went to plan on Friday. Max Muncy was hit by a pitch on the right wrist. The Dodgers third baseman initially stayed in to run the bases. The two-time All-Star was sidelined for 24 games by the injury before being activated on September 8. Now, just three games later, Muncy is dealing with another ailment.</p><p>Prior to the oblique strain, the 10th-year veteran landed on the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dave-roberts-reveals-dodgers-initial-plan-to-replace-max-muncy">IL with a bone bruise</a> in early July. He missed 26 games before rejoining the Dodgers on August 4. However, his return was brief as eight games later he would suffer the oblique injury.</p><p>Muncy has appeared in 92 games for the Dodgers this season. He’s been productive when healthy, hitting .252 with an .862 OPS, 17 home runs, 64 RBI, a 141 OPS+ and 3.3 bWAR. Muncy even reached <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-max-muncy-leapfrogs-matt-kemp-all-time-la-home-run-list">No. 7 on the Dodgers’ all-time home run list</a> in August. But he’s been sidelined for a big chunk of the season, missing 55 games.</p><p>Injuries have been the story of the 2025 Dodgers. While the team has been returning to health, LA is far from full strength. Will Smith remained out of the lineup in the series opener against the Giants. And manager Dave Roberts had an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-dave-roberts-announces-roki-sasaki-update-calf-situation-okc">unfortunate update on Roki Sasaki</a>.</p><p>While the injuries are concerning, the Dodgers’ bullpen is also cause for alarm. LA’s relievers collapsed again in Friday’s 5-1 defeat. Blake Treinen earned the loss but Tanner Scott was the culprit. The veteran closer gave up a walk-off grand slam in extra innings to Giants catcher Patrick Bailey.</p><p>Fortunately for Los Angeles, the San Diego Padres also lost on Friday. For now, the Dodgers maintain a 2.5-game lead in a tight NL West race.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But when Muncy isn’t available for one reason or another? Goodness, things fall apart in a major way, as the team’s <a href="https://www.statmuse.com/mlb/ask/dodgers-record-without-max-muncy-in-2025" rel="noopener">25-29 record</a> clearly proves.</p><p>Fortunately, after going 1-5 over their last two games, including three-straight losses to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Muncy is officially back in LA, rejoining the Dodgers are they take on the Colorado Rockies in their pursuit of win No. 80. Discussing his rehab process with Kirsten Watson before the game, Muncy revealed his <a href="https://x.com/SportsNetLA/status/1965207728747696132" rel="noopener">path back to the majors</a> and why he feels he’s back on track.</p><p>“Body feels good. You know, it’s a strange rehab assignment because it’s one of those ones where you literally don’t worry about any of the results. You’re kind of more worried about checking boxes, you know, make sure you get swings off. You know, get a swing and miss, get a check swing,” Muncy explained.</p><p>“So the results you’re looking for weren’t necessarily on-field results. It was more so just is the body gonna hold up, and everything felt great. There was no lingering soreness. No side effects, and you know, I felt like I was getting my swing off. I didn’t feel like anything was holding it back, and not to us, that was the most important thing everything else we can kind of figure out as we go. But you know, health-wise, that was the most important thing.”</p><p>While Muncy is more of a lunch pail player than a household name, especially on a team absolutely <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-dave-roberts-shohei-ohtani-mookie-betts-freddie-freeman-lineup">loaded with legitimate Superstars</a>, he has been the veteran leader who seemingly serves as a calming force in the dugout and in the middle of the order.
