Some of the best players in the league are weighing their options and teams are lining up to make their case. For Colorado Rockies owner Dick Monfort and manager Warren Schaeffer, no stone will go unturned. Including the ones involving a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/detroit-tigers/tigers-news-insider-asks-fans-tarik-skubal-trade-question-detroits-playoff-elimination">trade for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal</a>.</p><p>The Tigers organization has not committed to anything regarding a potential contract extension with Skubal. Despite three dominant starts in Detroit’s playoff run, the All-Star starter does not have a long-term deal on the table. As the beginning of free agency grows closer, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/detroit-tigers/tigers-news-chris-rose-detroit-trade-tarik-skubal">Tigers trade rumors are only getting louder</a>. One Rockies fan tried to talk his team into entering the race.</p><p>According to Talkin’ Baseball, the Colorado supporter reached out to Monfort via email. He made the case for the Rockies to swing a deal for Skubal this offseason. To the surprise of fans everywhere, Colorado’s owner did not immediately dismiss the idea.</p><p>“Colorado Rockies owner Dick Monfort did not rule out the possibility of his club adding Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal,” Talkin’ Baseball said.</p><p>Monfort’s reply was <a href="https://x.com/TalkinBaseball_/status/1979281663789010970" rel="noopener">short, but exciting</a>.</p><p>“Thanks Kevin, we’ll see what happens,” Monfort wrote.</p><p>Schaeffer has made some positive changes since taking over as the Rockies’ manager. Despite his limited success, Colorado is still far away from contention National League. However, Skubal is one of the few players in the league who could single-handedly propel any team he is on up the standings. If the Tigers cannot find a compromise with him, suitors will line up.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rival-executives-crush-rockies-pitching-analytics-department">Colorado’s pitching analytics received some criticism</a> late in the season. Despite their struggles, bringing Skubal in could mark the beginning of a historic turnaround. In a matter of months, he went from a last-place team to a Wild Card team.</p><p>Though the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/yankees-news-aaron-boone-alds-loss-quote">Yankees lost in the ALDS</a> to the Blue Jays, McMahon left his mark on the field. It was a combination of humor and irriration in expressing their opinions about the news.</p><p>One user said on social media that this was <a href="https://x.com/Uchiha_Hirsch/status/1978510414401945655" rel="noopener">not the best decision</a>.</p><p>“I think this is where you’ve reached rock bottom as a franchise” @Uchiha_Hirsch on X. Another <a href="https://x.com/SleeperYankees/status/1978505049471860804" rel="noopener">made the case </a>that McMahon is forever part of the Rockies.</p><p>“He’s our” @SleeperYankees said on X. Then, another user was much more angry that the Rockies did McMahon wrong while he was there.</p><p>“The Rockies managed to piss away the best years of his career. Same song, 1000th verse.” @DrMuckduck posted.</p><p>In the end, the Rockies <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-news-colorado-unfortunate-mlb-history-dreadful-season">finished the season at 43-119</a>, one of the worst MLB records on record. This season, McMahon obtained a 978 fielding percentage over 274.2 innings, with 6 errors in 276 chances.</p><h2><b>Ryan McMahon left a good impression on the Rockies</b></h2><p>From 2017 to 2025, McMahon had quite the career in the Rocky Mountains. Over five seasons (2019, 2021-2024), he finished with 20 home runs. In 2024, McMahon became an All-Star and became the fourth third baseman in franchise history to do so.</p><p>Plus, McMahon became a four-time Gold Glove finalist at third base. The Rockies fired general manager Bill Schmidt to kick off their offseason, but more changes could be coming. Regardless of their future, the pressure is on Warren Schaeffer’s staff.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-news-hunter-goodman-reveals-pregame-change-sparked-hot-streak">Schaeffer introduced some new strategy to Colorado’s team</a> in his first season as a manager. However, it did not translate into wins for a team looking for a spark. Instead, fans wonder how much longer they have to wait to see their team find success. According to other team executives, the Rockies have a lot of ground to make up in order to seriously contend.</p><p>As baseball continues to grow in the modern era, analytics have become vital to team success. Despite the popular trend, Colorado is lacking. According to The Athletic’s Andy McCullough, other executives believe that the Rockies’ inability to evolve is <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6680162/2025/10/01/colorado-rockies-mlb-monfort-schmidt-fix/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=mlbtw&amp;source=mlbtw" rel="noopener">holding the team back</a>.</p><p>“My sense is they’re in the Stone Ages,” one executive said. Another executive was more charitable, but still emphatic: “They’re literally 20 years behind the rest of the league in terms of analytics, infrastructure, everything.”</p><p>Marquez is the veteran in Schaeffer’s starting rotation, but Colorado has plenty of young talent. Kyle Freeland suffered an injury that crippled the Rockies’ pitching staff, all but ending his team’s chances at making the postseason. Now that the year is over the time has come for reflection and major changes in the offseason.</p><p>Regardless of what happens, Schaeffer and his coaching staff are squarely in the spotlight. If he can make changes to how the organization evaluates pitching, the Rockies have a chance. By comparison, the second-worst team this year, the Chicago White Sox, finished 60-102.</p><p>From the outset, Colorado struggled mightily. By early May, their 7-33 start prompted the firing of manager Bud Black. At the 50-game mark, the Rockies had already set the record for the worst start in the modern era of professional baseball. The team ultimately went 25-56 at Coors Field, the most home losses in franchise history, surpassing the previous high of 46 set in 2012.</p><p>This season also saw the Rockies establish a new MLB record for futility, a <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6670018/2025/09/28/colorado-rockies-worst-run-differential-mlb-history/?source=emp_shared_article" rel="noopener">historic minus-424 run differential</a>. No team in the modern era, dating from 1900, suffered a run deficit this large. To put it in perspective, the 1932 Boston Red Sox set the previous modern-era record of minus-349, which stood for 92 years.</p><p>Colorado’s run differential even eclipsed that of the 2024 White Sox (minus-306) and the infamous 1962 New York Mets (minus-331). By the end of August, the Rockies had already surpassed the 1932 Boston Red Sox record, ultimately joining the so-called “Minus-400 Club,” a dubious distinction not seen since the 19th century.</p><p>Both pitching and hitting were historically poor. Colorado’s starting rotation posted a collective ERA of 6.65, the worst since 1901 and just ahead of the 1996 Detroit Tigers’ 6.64. The rotation tied the modern-era record for most losses by a pitching staff, totaling 93 defeats. Offensively, the Rockies hit a .237 batting average, recorded a .681 OPS, and produced a collective fWAR of minus-3.3. The lineup scored a franchise-low 3.72 runs per game and was shut out a record 18 times, including the season finale against the Giants.</p><p>This year’s campaign was the third consecutive season for Colorado with 100+ losses, joining the 2011-2013 Houston Astros as the only modern-era teams to endure such a stretch. But in Wednesday’s matchup against the Seattle Mariners, the Rockies hit a new, unfathomable low.</p><p>Colorado fell to Seattle, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/seattle-mariners/mariners-cal-raleigh-60-hr-club-rockies">locking up the latter’s spot in the postseason</a>, 9-2. The Rockies now have a run differential of -412. It is <a href="https://x.com/psaundersdp/status/1971045738256925169" rel="noopener">by far the worst in the modern era</a>. The next closest team to the franchise’s low output is the 1932 Boston Red Sox, who had a -349 differential, via Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.</p><p>With the loss, Colorado moved to a dreadful 43-115 on the season. While painful on the eyes, it won’t go down as the worst record in MLB history. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-news-colorado-avoids-worst-team-ever-label-with-win-over-angels">Rockies will just barely beat out the Chicago White Sox</a>, who held a 41-121 mark in 2024.</p><p>Still, there will be no room for celebrating in the Mile High city. The franchise ranks 29th with 589 runs scored and dead last with a 5.99 ERA. Of course, Coors Field will take some of the blame. But there wasn’t much success coming from the Rockies in 2025.</p><p>Making matters worse is that this isn’t a new trend for Colorado. They haven’t been to the playoffs since 2018. Furthermore, they’ve finished fifth in the NL West for the past four seasons. It’s clear some major changes need to be made for the Rockies to be taken as a serious franchise.</p><p>Perhaps this new rock bottom will propel that low. Maybe Colorado will see a number of their top prospects pan out at the major league level. And Seattle is now just one win away from clinching the AL West for the first time in 24 years.</p><p>Cal Raleigh was just five years old when the Mariners last claimed the division. The All-Star catcher is putting the finishing touches on a historic season. They’ve never been the team with the biggest payroll, but they were at least competitive in the mid-2010s. But now, they’ve fallen so far off a cliff that one year after the Chicago White Sox set records for modern day putridity, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-news-colorado-lapping-white-soxs-historic-mlb-misery-40th-loss">Rockies threatened to one-up them</a> with their miserable and lifeless baseball.</p><p>But the Rockies can at least take comfort in the fact that they are <a href="https://x.com/baseballisdead_/status/1969230902786982370?t=ySA7g6u08C0gC6Is9dJYAA&amp;s=19" rel="noopener">not going to end</a> the 2025 season with the worst win-loss record over a full campaign in the modern era. By taking a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night, the Rockies earned their 42nd win of the season in 154 games — giving them one more victory than the 2024 White Sox earned all season.</p><p>Their win-loss tally in 2025 is by far going to be the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-gm-surprising-take-rockies-threatening-smash-loss-record">Rockies’ worst record in franchise history</a>. And it can be downright amazing to witness, just from a sheer absurdity standpoint, how nothing is changing for Colorado. It seems like no matter how hard they try this decade, nothing they do seems to work.</p><p>Whenever a team is as bad as the Rockies are in 2025, it’s tempting to say that there is nowhere else to go but up. Perhaps that is true. But this Rockies team is getting worse and worse every year, and at this point, there doesn’t appear to be light at the end of the tunnel.</p><p>In 2021, they won 74 games. That number went down to 68 in 2022, even further in 2023 when they won just 59 games, and then they improved by two games in 2024 when they recorded 61 victories.</p><p>On the bright side, this has given them plenty of chances to draft blue-chip prospects who could help turn the franchise around. But here they remain, languishing at the bottom of the MLB totem pole.</p><h2><b>Rockies’ immediate future looks bleak despite win vs. Angels</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/779271761-rockies-head-down.jpg"><figcaption>Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>To put into perspective just how bad the 2025 Rockies have been, their second-best position player in terms of WAR (per Fangraphs) is Ryan McMahon. McMahon has been playing for the New York Yankees for nearly two months. Their best pitcher, Kyle Freeland, is sporting a 5.14 ERA.</p><p>But there are at least positives for the Rockies to hold on to. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-news-hunter-goodman-reveals-pregame-change-sparked-hot-streak">Hunter Goodman is a legitimately good player</a>, and they at least have a few prospects in the pipeline who could emerge into superstar talents.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Texas Rangers selected him in the 19th round of the 2019 MLB Draft, staying there until they waived him in 2025. He eventually joined the Rockies in August.</p><p>Crim has played in five games ahead of the team’s contest against the Padres. He scored one run as he tallied one walk after 11 at-bats.</p><p>This time, Crim accomplished his first career hit. The team scored all their runs via homers with Crim and Kyle Farmer landing the hits out of the fields.</p><p>The Rockies’ bullpen was solid as they limited the Padres’ production. They held them to five hits after 31 at-bats, including a homer in the first inning. Tanner Gordon started on the mound as he lasted six innings, striking out nine batters while allowing two hits and a run. Meanwhile, Victor Vodnik obtained the save.</p><p>Colorado improved to a 41-107 record on the season, being at the bottom of the NL West Division standings. They are 32.5 games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks and 34.5 games behind the San Francisco Giants.</p><p>The Rockies will prepare for Game 3 of their series against the Padres. He now writes about sports instead as a form of therapy.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Colorado Rockies</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>As if the Colorado Rockies’ 2025 season could get any worse, one of the few potential bright spots of their putrid squad in rookie pitcher <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-news-chase-dollander-fought-through-gem-vs-braves">Chase Dollander may have thrown</a> his final pitch of the season on the eighth of September in a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. As Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reported, Dollander is <a href="https://x.com/psaundersdp/status/1966321499134112058" rel="noopener">headed to the injured list</a> with a knee injury and will be missing his next start as a result — with Saunders saying that “his rookie season is likely over.”</p><p>Dollander, if his season is indeed over, at least went out on a high note. He allowed just one run on one hit in five innings (76 pitches) against the Dodgers this past Monday, which is one of the best starts of his career, being one of just four starts in which he allowed just one earned run five or more innings of work.</p><p>It looked as though Dollander had something left in the tank, but after he threw a four-pitch walk to start the sixth inning, the Rockies noticed that his left knee was bothering him more than usual. This led to an early exit for Dollander not just from the game, but it looks like it will also be an early exit from the 2025 season itself.</p><p>Considering <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/colorado-rockies/rockies-news-warren-schaeffers-4-word-rebuttal-to-chase-dollanders-brutal-era">how talent-starved the Rockies</a> are this season, any bit of hope they can hold on to is worth keeping. For Dollander, the Rockies can look past his obscene ERA of 6.52 and see, at the very least, that his underlying metrics (5.22 xERA, 4.87 xFIP) show that he has plenty of room to grow, especially when he’s just 23 years of age.</p><p>Dollander was the ninth overall pick of the 2023 MLB Draft, and he’ll be looking to improve in Year 2, provided, of course, that he completely puts his knee injury issues in the rearview mirror.</p><h2>Rockies’ 2025 season is one to forget</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Rockies-hurler-Kyle-Freeland-voices-his-displeasure-.jpg"><figcaption>Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Rockies, on Thursday night, were shut out for the second game in a row, which is just a microcosm of all the struggles they’ve gone through all year long. They have a 40-107 record following their 2-0 loss to the San Diego Padres, and their run differential of -386 is poised to be the worst for any team in the modern era.</p><p>This campaign has simply been one to forget for the Rockies, a team that, after years of mismanagement, is finally paying the price.
