My swings were getting better and better as the game was going on. I’m just glad I was able to get the opportunity again.”</p><p>Freeman had enjoyed <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6756409/2025/10/28/world-series-game-4-dodgers-blue-jays/" rel="noopener">a few solid at-bats</a> throughout the contest, but had not yet been able to deliver the kind of swing that could change the course of a game.</p><p>“He hit it, and I said, ‘He got it this time,’” Kike Hernandez told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. “But the ball barely got out. The last two at-bats before that one, he hit the ball 104 twice and the ball wasn’t even close to the wall. It makes you think, is this one going to go out?</p><p>“Thank God it did.”</p><p>The Dodgers have become accustomed to such situations, and Freeman has seemingly been in the middle of the most intense moments.</p><p>In Game 1 of last year’s World Series against the New York Yankees, Freeman cranked a <a href="https://dodgers.mlblogs.com/2025-world-series-freddie-freeman-is-the-fall-classic-dream-weaver-dfd0cdfa5d56" rel="noopener">game-winning grand slam</a> off of Nestor Cortes in the bottom of the 10th inning.</p><p>“That’s (the dream) you’re talking about as kids. And last year, it was always bases loaded, and two outs, bottom of the 9th. I know it happened in the 10th (last year in Game 1 of the World Series),” Freeman told Cary Osborne of Dodger Insider. “But to have it happen again a year later, to hit another walk-off, it’s kind of amazing, crazy, and I’m just glad we won and we’re up 2–1, and we got our Shohei on the mound tomorrow.”</p><p>The Dodgers and Blue Jays used 44 combined players in the six-hour and 39-minute thriller. But both teams would much rather be happy while exhausted instead of playing the blame game, and for the Dodgers, they’ll at least be sleeping soundly after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-exhausted-fans-celebrate-world-series-hero-freddie-freeman-for-walkoff-hr">Freddie Freeman hit another walk-off home run</a> in the World Series — a solo shot off of Brendon Little on a hanging sinker on a full count in the bottom of the 18th.</p><p>But before Freeman hit paydirt and finally sent the fans at Dodger Stadium eagerly anticipating a walk-off win home happy, there were plenty of frustrating moments for both teams. They were threatening to score during the extra innings, but couldn’t seem to find a way to get them safely across the plate.</p><p>In fact, the two teams combined to leave 37 runners stranded on base, which is <a href="https://x.com/SNstats/status/1983065460875964504" rel="noopener">a new</a> World Series record for most runners left on base, as pointed out by Sportsnet on X (formerly Twitter).</p><p>As early as the 10th inning, the Blue Jays were already threatening to score a go-ahead run. But instead, Davis Schneider got himself thrown out at the plate in a questionable send from third-base coach Carlos Febles.</p><p>In the bottom of the 11th, Freeman already had a golden opportunity to win the game for the Dodgers, with Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts on base. Freeman proceeded to fly out to left field. In the 13th, Freeman came on with the bases loaded, and he sent a deep fly ball to the warning track, only to be caught by Daulton Varsho.</p><p>The Blue Jays were knocking on the door in the 18th, with Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Varsho advancing to third and second base, respectively, after a wild pitch from Will Klein. Klein stranded those runners by striking out Tyler Heineman.</p><p>If anything, both bullpens deserve plenty of credit for keeping the score tied for that long.</p><h2><b>Dodgers win bullpen war of attrition against the Blue Jays</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Blue-Jays-Dodgers-set-World-Series-history-in-Game-3-marathon.jpg"><figcaption>© Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>If given the choice, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-most-to-blame-for-18th-inning-world-series-game-3-loss">Blue Jays manager John Schneider certainly would not have gone</a> with Brendon Little to end the game. Alas, Little was the only bullpen arm remaining for Toronto, so he had no choice but to call upon him even though he already had some shaky moments earlier in the postseason.</p><p>Little barely got through the 17th before he allowed Freeman to end the game with one swing. He now writes about sports instead as a form of therapy.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Editorials</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>After 18 long innings, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-exhausted-fans-celebrate-world-series-hero-freddie-freeman-for-walkoff-hr">Los Angeles Dodgers took Game 3 of the 2025 World Series</a> over the Toronto Blue Jays, with Freddie Freeman tapping into some October magic yet again as he hit a walk-off home run off of Brendon Little to give LA a 6-5 win and a 2-1 lead in the series. The game lasted over six hours, and it seemed like the game was not going to end, but Freeman finally connected on one after both teams stranded baserunners in extra innings like it was nobody’s business.</p><p>Freeman connected on a full-count sinker that was hanging in the middle of the zone to send the Dodgers home happy. Both teams are about to do battle yet again around five hours, but the veteran first baseman wasn’t about to let the home team go home as the loser.</p><p>This was a game that could have gone either way, and both teams deserve plenty of props for duking it out until the very end. But for the Blue Jays, this game is going to be something they look back on and wish that they did some things differently.</p><p>With that said, these are the Blue Jays most to blame for their loss in Game 3 of the World Series in an 18-inning marathon.</p><h2><b>Baserunning decisions cost the Blue Jays</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Blue-Jays-left-fielder-Davis-Schneider-36-is-out-at-home.jpg"><figcaption>© Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>One thing’s for sure: Blue Jays manager John Schneider was very aggressive with his lineup shuffling. Of course, it wasn’t his fault that George Springer had to exit the game early due to injury, leaving the Toronto lineup with less pop. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-bo-bichette-gets-major-outlook-for-crucial-world-series-game-3-vs-dodgers">Bo Bichette was clearly not 100 percent</a> yet, and the Blue Jays are looking to keep him relatively fresh for the duration of the World Series, explaining the decision to pinch run for him with Isiah Kiner-Falefa.</p><p>But in the World Series, it’s the fine margins that decide games. Schneider was ultra-aggressive in pinch-running for his slower baserunners, and it left them very much devoid of any offensive threats in the extra innings.</p><p>Tyler Heineman pinch ran for Alejandro Kirk, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-alejandro-kirks-clutch-3-run-hr-puts-toronto-on-top-in-game-3">who hit a home run earlier</a> in the game. Ty France, who came on for Springer, got subbed out for Davis Schneider. Even Addison Barger, who’s been getting hits left and right for the Blue Jays this postseason, was subbed out in favor of Myles Straw, who couldn’t hit a lick during the extra innings.</p><p>But beyond Schneider’s substitution decisions, there were also some plays where Toronto would have been best served playing it safe on the basepaths.</p><p>In the ninth inning, Kiner-Falefa wasn’t able to gauge just how far the ball traveled on a base hit and he tried to get to third base — only for Tommy Edman to gun him down. In the 10th, the Blue Jays decided to send Schneider home on a base hit by Nathan Lukes, only for the Dodgers to make a great relay play to keep the game tied.</p><p>There’s a fine line between aggressiveness and recklessness. The Blue Jays treaded closer to the latter, and they ended up not mounting much of a threat at the plate during the extras as a result. The closest they came to scoring was in the top of the 18th, but they would have been better off with Kirk at the plate in that spot instead of Heineman.</p><p>It’s a good sign that Schneider trusts his bench this much. But in the World Series, against a stacked Dodgers team, they must know to keep their best players on the field at all times instead of trusting some unproven bats to come through when the pressure is at its highest.</p><h2>Brendon Little was on borrowed time</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Dodgers-first-baseman-Freddie-Freeman-5-celebrates.jpg"><figcaption>© Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Little lost the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-john-schneiders-confident-bullpen-message-ahead-of-world-series-game-3">trust of Schneider and the Blue Jays</a> after struggling earlier in the postseason. But he did come up huge for Toronto in the 17th inning, only to allow the walk-off home run to Freeman.</p><p>It’s hard to rag on Little so much considering how he managed an escape act in the 17th inning. But he was the last arm Schneider called upon from the pen for a reason. He was shaky after looking solid on the first two batters he faced, and against Freeman, he couldn’t execute, forcing him to a full-count in which he had to throw a meatball of a pitch that the Dodgers first baseman did not miss.</p><p>Little has to shoulder a lot of the blame for this loss, as the Dodgers couldn’t get much of anything going in the extras as well, particularly against Eric Lauer. Alas, the situation called for him to make an appearance, and he ended up costing Toronto what could be an all-important Game 3 in this World Series.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But the Blue Jays aren’t just about to let the league’s richest and deepest team sleepwalk their way into another championship. His three-run shot against the Seattle Mariners sent Toronto to the World Series against the Dodgers.</p><p>During the regular season, Springer was a big part of this lineup, as well. He swatted 32 home runs for the AL East champions while driving in 84 runs. He slashed .309/.399/.560 with a .959 OPS.</p><p>The Blue Jays fell behind the Dodgers 2-0 in Game 3. However, a three-run shot from Alejandro Kirk gave the Blue Jays the lead. Toronto eventually made it 4-2, but Shohei Ohtani led a comeback that saw the Dodgers tie the game.</p><p>In the seventh, the teams traded runs. Toronto scored on a Bo Bichette single that plated Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The Dodgers, meanwhile, tied the game off another Ohtani home run.</p><p>The Dodgers and Blue Jays are fighting tooth and nail to win Game 3. However, Toronto is also hoping to hear good news about Springer’s injury. But Kirk was not about to let the Dodgers starter get away with that pitch. In a bit of carelessness from Glasnow, he threw a hanging curve right in the middle of the zone, and the Blue Jays catcher was all over that pitch.</p><p>The Dodgers getting an early lead could have been a recipe for disaster for the Blue Jays. After all, LA’s starters have been so good, and pitching from an advantageous position relieves some of the pressure on their starter from the mound. This was the case in Game 2, when <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-george-springer-said-yoshinobu-yamamoto-fea-lineup-clueless">Yoshinobu Yamamoto mowed down the Blue Jays lineup</a> and threw a complete game after LA’s offense delivered with the long balls.</p><p>Max Scherzer had already allowed a solo shot each to Teoscar Hernandez, former Blue Jay, and Shohei Ohtani, someone who was almost a Blue Jay, and this put a mountain of pressure on Toronto to score some runs to get one step closer to forcing LA to go to their bullpen.</p><p>But Kirk clearly is up to the task.
