And the veteran right fielder teamed up with J.T. Realmuto to pull off a wild base running feat.</p><p>With the score tied 2-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Phillies broke the game open, batting around and scoring six runs. But the final two runs of the inning were a <a href="https://x.com/MLB/status/1936241232927199568" rel="noopener">sight to behold</a>.</p><p>Second baseman Bryson Stott came up with the bases loaded and delivered a three-run double off the wall in left. However, his streak comes to an end on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins.</p><p>The former All-Star outfielder was benched by manager Rob Thomson in favor of Max Kepler in right field. According to the team, the reason why Castellanos is not playing does not having anything to do with his play.</p><p>Castellanos and the rest of his teammates are extremely passionate. However, the former All-Star upset Thomson with his outburst after the manager removed him from Monday’s game against the Marlins. According to The Athletic’s Charlotte Varnes, Thomson said that Castellanos “crossed a line” with his comments.</p><p>When asked about his manager’s decision to hold him out of the Phillies’ game, Castellanos’ <a href="https://x.com/charlottevarnes/status/1935064747839471854" rel="noopener">answer was short</a>.</p><p>“It’s his decision. He’s the manager,” Castellanos said.</p><p>While Thomson’s decision ends his outfielder’s streak of starts, fans wait to see if the incident becomes something more. Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos and company are having a stellar season and are right in the middle of the playoff race once again.</p><p>Even as some Phillies have been in and out of the lineup, Castellanos has continued to be an iron man for this group. On Tuesday night, he made his 231st consecutive start for Philadelphia, which <a href="https://x.com/JClarkNBCS/status/1932604329510228469" rel="noopener">puts him in very rare air</a> in the history of the franchise according to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia.</p><p>“Nick Castellanos is making his 231st consecutive start tonight,” Clark wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “That moves him past Jimmy Rollins and Nick now has the longest streak for the Phillies since Pete Rose back in the 80s played 350 consecutive games.”</p><p>Jimmy Rollins is a Phillies legend and won a World Series with the franchise back in 2008, so it’s no small feat to pass him on any leaderboard. Catching Rose will take Castellanos into next season, so he has a long way to go, but to even be mentioned in that company is an honor for the slugger.</p><p>Of course, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mlb-news-rob-manfred-change-pete-rose-joe-jackson">Pete Rose was recently reinstated</a> and is now eligible to be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, so he has recently had his name cleared.</p><p>Castellanos had an unspectacular day in this landmark start, finishing just 1-for-4 at the plate with a pair of strikeouts. However, he has still been a threat at the plate all season long. In 67 games, the righty is hitting .287 with 32 RBIs despite having just six home runs in 67 games.</p><p>That home run number is very low for someone with Castellanos’ power, but that also gives him an area to improve in over the back half of the season. Having a hitter of this quality in the lineup every single day is a massive advantage in its own, but if he can take it even another level up, he will become a true force for the Phillies.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

It’s that baseball fans will go crazy to place a bet on the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/philadelphia-phillies/phillies-news-nick-castellanos-key-recent-hot-streak">Phillies slugger to go yard</a> after something happens.</p><p>So, when news broke on Monday that Pope Francis had died, social media lit up with screenshots of Castellanos home run bets and endless jokes about the topic. As one user on X, formerly Twitter, noted, <a href="https://x.com/CrossingBroad/status/1914328963100401672" rel="noopener">FanDuel even locked</a> Castellanos home run props once word got out of the pope’s death. Another noted that his <a href="https://x.com/sportsrapport/status/1914339022249361681" rel="noopener">odds to homer jumped</a> from +750 to +560 after Pope Francis’ death.</p><p>“The first thing I did when I saw the pope died is to check if Nick Castellanos plays today,” one <a href="https://x.com/Chimaa__/status/1914288302913396799" rel="noopener">fan admitted</a>, though he is surely far from the only one.</p><p>A Phillies fan, located outside the United States, hoped to get better odds on their Castellanos bet while most American fans <a href="https://x.com/bringbackgiroux/status/1914242354740895794" rel="noopener">were still asleep</a>.</p><p>“I’m about to put the craziest amount of money on a nick castellanos homer today before the americans wake up to the news,” they wrote.</p><p>“A drive into deep heaven by Castellanos,” wrote one fan, referencing the day <a href="https://x.com/kgeich/status/1914312569403171074" rel="noopener">the whole meme began</a>.</p><p>It shouldn’t be a surprise that he is the <a href="https://twitter.com/CPBetting/status/1914352472648294467" rel="noopener">most-bet player</a> to hit a home run on Monday.</p><h2><b>How Phillies veteran Nick Castellanos became a meme</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Nick-Castellanos.jpg"><figcaption>Kyle Ross-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>For the uninitiated, the Castellanos home run meme has been around for years. It began in August 2020 when Cincinnati Reds broadcaster Thom Brennaman issued an on-air apology for using a homophobic slur on a hot mic earlier in the broadcast. Castellanos, then of the Reds, was at the plate at the time, and he homered mid-apology, causing Brennaman to awkwardly break from his remarks.</p><p>“I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos, it will be a home run,” he said at the time. “And so that’ll make it a 4–0 ballgame.”</p><p>A year later, Castellanos homered against the Kansas City Royals while the Royals broadcast was eulogizing a military veteran.</p><p>The trend continued when he reached the Phillies. He recorded his first Spring Training hit for Philadelphia while the broadcast was discussing Toronto pitching coach Pete Walker’s DUI from two days earlier. That Memorial Day, he homered while the Phillies’ broadcast was talking about the team’s American Gold Star Mothers Chair of Honor.</p><p>In June 2023, Castellanos homered the day of the I-95 collapse in Philadelphia that killed one driver. One year later, he homered the day of the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump. Hie next home run came eight days later — the <a href="http://clutchpoints.com/mlb/philadelphia-phillies/phillies-news-nick-castellanos-meme-strikes-again-after-joe-bidens-withdrawal-thom-brennamens-return">same day then-President Joe Biden</a> announced he would not seek re-election.</p><p>It was even a thing before it was a meme.
