A deal ultimately did not come to fruition, and Kwan helped the Guardians shock the Detroit Tigers and win the American League Central. The Tigers later got their revenge in the playoffs and sent the Guards home. Since the offseason began, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/cleveland-guardians/guardians-rumors-steven-kwan-trade-rumors">trade rumors around Kwan have been fairly quiet</a>, but the New York <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/perfect-trade-offer-yankees-must-offer-guardians-for-steven-kwan">Yankees are a team that has been mentioned as a possible suitor</a>.</p><p>During an episode of Talkin’ Yanks in early December, Jomboy and Talkin’ Jake <a href="https://x.com/TalkinYanks/status/1996970602293493826" rel="noopener">discussed the idea</a> of Kwan possibly being a fallback option for the Yankees if they fail to sign Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger. Kwan would make sense for the Yankees — a team that needs better defense and Kwan is a Gold Glove caliber outfielder.</p><p>However, Kwan has not been mentioned in trade rumors for the most part in recent weeks. Perhaps that is a result of Tucker and Bellinger still being available in free agency. Teams such as the Yankees may pivot to contacting the Guardians about Kwan after the aforementioned outfielders sign.</p><p>Kwan, 28, still has two years of team control remaining on his current contract (arbitration eligible in both 2026 and 2027). The Guardians, despite falling short in the postseason, are fresh off an AL Central division title. Cleveland has been mostly quiet so far this offseason, but the ball club proved it could compete at a high level with its current core of players.</p><p>Additionally, Steven Vogt has earned back-to-back AL Manager of the Year Awards — not bad for a guy in his first manager job who had the daunting task of replacing a legend in Terry Francona.</p><p>The Guardians may not want to trade Kwan. Will the Yankees reach out if they don’t sign Tucker or Bellinger (which is unlikely in all reality)? Probably, as he would be a good fit in New York as mentioned. But now, the New York Yankees seemingly <a href="https://x.com/JimBowdenGM/status/2001352606082564587" rel="noopener">lead the chase</a> to re-sign Bellinger over the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to MLB insider Jim Bowden.</p><p>“The market for Cody Bellinger is robust, with the most likely result that he signs with a big market, contending team, as expected, with the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers the most likely landing spots for him at this point in that order,” Bowden wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Bellinger is coming off a solid season, where he hit .272 with 29 home runs, 98 RBIs, and scored 89 runs. Additionally, he had a .480 slugging percentage with a .334 on-base percentage. Throughout his career, he has batted .261 with 225 home runs and 695 RBIs over 1,157 career games.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/the-perfect-150-million-contract-dodgers-must-offer-cody-bellinger-to-steal-him-from-yankees">Bellinger began his career with the Dodgers</a>, so there is still a chance that he could rejoin the team that drafted him. Currently, he is testing the waters of free agency after a strong season with the Yanks. But as the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/mlb-rumors-cody-bellinger-reunion-dodgers-in-play-if-leaves-yankees">Dodgers attempt to bring Bellinger back to Chavez Ravine,</a> the Yanks are making a push to keep him in the Bronx.</p><p>Because of the strong season he just had, the value for him is higher than it’s ever been. Of course, it will cost them, as it will the Dodgers or Mets, should they attempt to sign him. Agent Scott Boras even hinted at this with a recent cryptic response <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/scott-boras-cody-bellinger-market-winter-meetings" rel="noopener">regarding his client’s future.</a></p><p>“It’s not for me to Judge, but great players see Red if they have a big bat Yanked out of their lineup,” Boras told Bryan Hoch during this month’s Winter Meetings. “I haven’t Met a team that Dodges a five-tool player. To Phil the center-field need is a Giant step towards the playoffs.”</p><p>Across 152 games with the Yankees, Bellinger bashed 28 homers, ripped 25 doubles, and collected 98 RBIs with an .813 OPS. According to Baseball Savant, he ranked in the <a href="https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/cody-bellinger-641355?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb" rel="noopener">82nd percentile in Batting Run Value.</a></p><p>Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has expressed interest in retaining the 30-year-old slugger, but has also acknowledged that he fits the needs of multiple teams.</p><p>“I think he’d be a great fit for anybody,” Cashman said. “I think he’s a very talented player that can play multiple positions at a high level, and hits lefties, hits righties. The team has been mired in mediocrity for the past few seasons. Signing a versatile star such as Cody Bellinger could help the Giants take a big step forward. While <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/san-francisco-giants/giants-rumors-san-francisco-interested-adding-pitching-theres-a-catch">pitching may be a priority</a>, Scott Boras — Bellinger’s agent — <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYSzbM293HE" rel="noopener">did reportedly mention</a> the Giants as a potential suitor, according to Splash Hit Territory.</p><p>“Scott Boras… He did connect the Giants pretty firmly with Cody Bellinger,” Susan Slusser said on the podcast.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mlb-stories/mlb-rumors-scott-boras-dr-seuss-outlining-cody-bellinger-landing-spots">Boras mentioned a number of teams</a> as potential candidates for Bellinger, however. Still, the Giants do seem to be a possibility. Slusser, who is a beat reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle in addition to her work on the Splash Hit Territory podcast, further shared her thoughts on the Giants possibly landing Bellinger in free agency.</p><p>“Let’s put the money aside… how likely it is that they could get him, to me, (signing Bellinger) would fill two huge needs,” Slusser added. “Defense, obviously, in the outfield. He’s also a pretty good offensive player. Cost is gonna be high, the years are probably going to be high, that’s obviously not what we’re hearing that they’re interested in doing. But, he got thrown out there with a bunch of other guys.”</p><p>Oracle Park in San Francisco features a large — and difficult to navigate — outfield. Bringing in a guy like Bellinger makes plenty of sense, as he can realistically play any position in the outfield. He can also play first base, but the Giants would surely use him as an outfielder.</p><p>He’s a strong defender in addition to being versatile. And as Slusser mentioned, Bellinger is more than capable of taking care of business at the plate. He’s also extremely familiar with the National League West, having played in Los Angeles with the Dodgers from 2017-2022.</p><p>There are no guarantees that San Francisco will add Bellinger, but it seems as if the Giants are at least in the conversation.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

However, every team interested is being put on hold due to Kyle Tucker and Scott Boras.</p><p>Tucker is another highly coveted free agent yet to find his new team. Boras is privy to that, and is waiting until his contract is settled <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6880271/2025/12/10/yankees-cody-bellinger-roster-options/">before negotiating a new one</a> for Bellinger, via Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.</p><p>“They must be active sooner rather than later. A league source who has been briefed on talks with Bellinger’s agent, Scott Boras, said it seemed likely Boras could wait for Kyle Tucker to sign before completing a deal for Bellinger, who also seems to have plenty of suitors,” Kuty wrote. “The Yankees have problems that signing Bellinger alone wouldn’t solve, and they have the ability to get things done even if a Bellinger deal would almost definitely be their biggest offseason expenditure.”</p><p>Boras wants to see <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/mlb-rumors-kyle-tucker-yankees-cody-bellinger-backup-plan">how Tucker will re-shape the outfield market</a>. He can then go to teams with a clear outline of what he expects for Bellinger. It’ll force franchises like the Yankees and others to be patient. But in the end, it could get the slugger his best deal possible.</p><p>In his debut with the Yankees, Bellinger hit .272 with 29 home runs, 98 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. As they try and chase down a World Series title, New York knows getting the former MVP’s bat back in the lineup would go a long way.
