However, he is still waiting on Tanner Scott to return. The veteran skipper got some definitive news on Tony Gonsolin, though. Unfortunately, Los Angeles will miss a piece for the rest of the season.</p><p>Gonsolin was on the injured list for the majority of the season with elbow issues. He made a return to the Dodgers’ rotation, making seven starts before landing back on the IL. The team decided that surgery is the right call to ensure that he returns to full health. Unfortunately, his procedure has a long recovery time. According to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya, <a href="https://x.com/FabianArdaya/status/1955426990326235492" rel="noopener">his season is over</a>.</p><p>“Andrew Friedman said Tony Gonsolin underwent an internal brace procedure today. His season is obviously over. It’s an 8-10 month timeline,” Ardaya said.</p><p>Not having Gonsolin leaves Roberts with one less option in his rotation. The Dodgers traded Dustin May to the Boston Red Sox at the trade deadline because of the surplus of pitching on the roster. However, the front office might come to regret that move if the injury bug bites again. For now, though, Los Angeles’ starting pitching is better than it has been all season.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-3-los-angeles-relievers-encouraging-bullpen-sessions">Scott and other relievers are making progress towards their return</a>. If they can come back before the playoffs begin, the Dodgers should have nothing to worry about. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, and Tyler Glasnow form one of the best pitching trios in the league. A competent bullpen is all Los Angeles needs to win back-to-back titles.</p><p>Gonsolin’s timetable has him returning at some point next summer at the earliest. The former All-Star figured to be a key piece of the rotation this season. Now, Roberts has to wait a year before getting him back on the mound. In the meantime, he and his team have more pressing things to worry about.</p><p>With Ohtani facing another lawsuit, distractions are abound in Los Angeles. The other pertained to Tony Gonsolin.</p><p>The veteran pitcher was not active for Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Busch Stadium. That’s because manager Dave Roberts revealed via Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register that Gonsolin<a href="https://x.com/billplunkettocr/status/1931487427484438884" rel="noopener"> is dealing with an ailment</a>.</p><p>“Dave Roberts said he was informed Friday that Tony Gonsolin was experiencing elbow pain. Gonsolin will have elbow examined. No details on when,” Plunkett said.</p><p>Meanwhile, the two-time World Series winning skipper unveiled the new rotation plan moving forward, per Plunkett. Casparius witnessed two runs score in that sequence and ruined the potential shutout.</p><p>Now there’s no telling how long Gonsolin will be out of action. On Saturday, the Dodgers announced that yet another starter had <a href="https://x.com/FabianArdaya/status/1931403559771476369" rel="noopener">landed on the IL</a>.</p><p>LA moved Tony Gonsolin to the injured list with right elbow discomfort, per The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya on X. The Dodgers have now placed a ridiculous 20 different players on the IL less than halfway into the season.</p><h2><b>Tony Gonsolin becomes latest Dodgers pitcher to hit IL</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tony-Gonsolin-2.jpg"><figcaption>Jason Parkhurst-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-tony-gonsolin-gets-real-return-dodgers-tommy-john-surgery">Gonsolin made his return from Tommy John surgery</a> this year after he underwent the procedure in 2023 and was sidelined for all of last season. He’s made seven starts for the Dodgers in 2025, going 3-2 with a 5.00 ERA, 1.417 WHIP, 9.5 K/9 and ERA+ of 78.</p><p>Gonsolin last took the mound for LA in Wednesday’s game against the New York Mets. He allowed two runs on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts in five innings. However, the Dodgers lost 6-1.</p><p>Los Angeles managed a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-mookie-betts-blunt-assessment-come-behind-win-vs-mets">come-from-behind win over the Mets</a> in the series finale, which gave the team a 2-2 split against New York. However, the Dodgers are just 6-7 over their last 13 games and the team’s lead over the San Diego Padres in the NL West has dropped to one game.</p><p>LA was shut out by the St. Louis Cardinals in the series opener Friday. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-mookie-betts-reveals-biggest-issue-cardinals">Dodgers’ biggest issue in the loss</a> came down to timely hitting. The team went just 1-13 with runners in scoring position, something that shortstop Mookie Betts says needs to improve.</p><p>The team did receive some positive injury news to offset the disappointing Gonsolin announcement. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-pitching-boost-before-cardinals-clash">Dodgers got a pitching boost</a> Saturday after activating relievers Michael Kopech and Kirby Yates from the IL.</p><p>Kopech has yet to pitch this season after a strong second half of 2024 with LA. He had been sidelined with forearm and shoulder ailments. While Glasnow joins fellow starter Blake Snell on the IL, the Dodgers announced some <a href="https://x.com/Dodgers/status/1917636915207233999" rel="noopener">positive pitching news</a>, as the team welcomed Tony Gonsolin back to the active roster Wednesday.</p><p>Los Angeles activated Gonsolin after a lengthy IL stint. Righty reliever Matt Sauer was optioned back to Triple-A in a corresponding move, according to the team’s official account on X.</p><p>Gonsolin last pitched for the Dodgers in August of 2023. He <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-tony-gonsolin-gets-real-return-dodgers-tommy-john-surgery">underwent Tommy John surgery</a> and was sidelined all last season. But Gonsolin performed well during a rehab assignment with the team’s Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City. Now, after a 20-month layoff, he’s ready to return to a Major League mound.</p><h2><b>The Dodgers welcome Tony Gonsolin back after 20-month absence</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Tony-Gonsolin-2.jpg"><figcaption>Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Gonsolin’s return is significant for the Dodgers. While the team boasts a championship-caliber roster, the starting pitching has been problematic. In addition to Glasnow and Snell, Shohei Ohtani and Clayton Kershaw have been unable to pitch for LA. So <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-la-gets-rotational-upgrade-return-2022-all-star">Gonsolin is suddenly a key contributor</a>, helping to stabilize the rotation along with mainstays Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki.</p><p>Gonsolin made his long-awaited return to the bump on Wednesday, taking on the Miami Marlins in Los Angeles. After five innings, he’s allowed two runs on four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Gonsolin is protecting a 4-2 Dodgers lead in a strong season debut.</p><p>The sixth-year veteran made his Major League debut with LA back in 2019. He finished fourth in National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2020 but he really came into his own in 2022. That season he went 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA, 0.875 WHIP and an 8.2 K/9. He finished the year with an ERA+ of 188 and 4.3 bWAR. The excellent performance earned Gonsolin his first career All-Star nod.</p><p>The Dodgers are, as expected, off to a strong start this season.
