The Red Sox have placed Triston Casas on the IL with shoulder inflammation. They also <a href="https://twitter.com/IanMBrowne/status/1703112395294376394" rel="noopener">called up</a> Bobby Dalbec from Triple-A, and he will take Triston Casas’ place on the big-league roster.</p><p>With only 14 games left on the regular-season schedule and Boston almost certain to miss the playoffs. Casas’ shoulder injury will likely end his 2023 season. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/beantown-rundown-triston-casas-al-rookie-of-the-year-favorite-torrid-stretch-red-sox-continues" rel="noopener">Casas has played as well</a> in his rookie season as the Red Sox could’ve hoped, but this injury will most likely prevent him from improving on his resume for the AL Rookie of the Year Award.</p><p>The first baseman is hitting .263 with 24 home runs and 65 RBIs. Casas’ .367 on-base percentage is the highest on the team.</p><p>After a promising start to his MLB career in 2020 and 2021, Dalbec has only played 10 games with the Red Sox in 2023. The 28-year-old hit .167/.286/.167 in 12 at-bats. Dalbec is still looking for his first home run this year with Boston. He last played for in the majors on June 25.</p><p>In 114 games for Triple-A Worcester, Dalbec has an impressive .938 OPS. He has 33 home runs and 79 RBI.</p><p>The Red Sox fell to sole possession of last place in the AL East when they were shut out 3-0 by the Toronto Blue Jays Friday night. Boston is 7.5 games out of the third and final AL Wild Card spot. Even the New York <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/yankees-aaron-judge-long-shot-playoff-odds" rel="noopener">Yankees have moved ahead</a> of the Red Sox in the playoff race, having just beaten Boston three times in four games at Fenway Park.</p><p>The Red Sox have been on a downward spiral since sweeping the Yankees in the Bronx. One of the guys who is keeping their offense alive down the stretch of the season is Triston Casas, who has been on an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/beantown-rundown-triston-casas-breaking-out-red-sox-perfect-time" rel="noopener">absolute tear</a> for months now.</p><p>The Red Sox are 4.5 games behind the Texas Rangers for the final wild card spot in the AL, and they would have to hop over the Toronto Blue Jays to find their way into the postseason as well. But Casas has continued to deliver for Boston as the season has gone on, with the latest example of this coming on Monday afternoon when he hammered a <a href="https://deadspin.com/triston-casas-red-sox-snap-13-game-losing-streak-in-ta-1850802792" rel="noopener">three-run home run</a> to turn a 3-1 deficit against the Tampa Bay Rays into a 4-3 lead the Sox would never relinquish.</p><p>Casas’ turnaround is incredible, and he simply has not let his foot off the gas pedal over the past few months. In the process, Casas has made the race for AL Rookie of the Year quite interesting, and if he can continue to hit at this incredible rate, he should walk away with the award when the season officially comes to a close.</p><h2><b>Triston Casas is making a legit case to win AL Rookie of the Year</b></h2><p>For most of April and May, Casas’ batting average sat below .200, and fans were shocking themselves by making legit cases to promote Bobby Dalbec to the majors to take Casas’ spot at first base. Casas was awful to start the year, and it seemed like the Red Sox had another overhyped prospect flaming out at the major league level.</p><p>Casas had a .194 batting average on June 7th, and then all of a sudden, everything changed. Since that day, Casas has been playing at a near-MVP level for the Red Sox. Casas’ numbers on the season are pretty solid right now (.268 BA, 23 HR, 59 RBI, .871 OPS), but it’s worth noting that pretty much all that production has come over the past three months of action (.320 BA, 17 HR, 42 RBI, 1.007 OPS).</p><p>This is the sort of turnaround that no one, not even Casas himself, could have seen coming. He went from being on the verge of getting replaced as the team’s starting first baseman to becoming arguably their best hitter on the season. Casas’ .871 OPS on the entire season is second on the team behind Adam Duvall, who also missed a big chunk of the season with a broken wrist.</p><p>It feels like everyone has been waiting for Casas to cool off, but he simply hasn’t, and it seems like he may have finally figured things out at the major league level. It’s gotten to the point where Casas appears to be seriously challenging Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles for the AL Rookie of the Year award.</p><p>Henderson has been more consistent than Casas on the year (.254 BA, 23 HR, 70 RBI, 9 SB, .813 OPS) and has added more value to his team as a fielder, but it’s becoming clear that he is getting smoked by Casas at the plate. Since the start of June, there really haven’t been many hitters who have been outperforming Casas, and he’s clearly been the most productive rookie in the league during that stretch.</p><p>When you ignore the first two months of the season, this isn’t even a contest. The problem is that Casas was virtually invisible during April and May, which gave Henderson the opportunity to build up a lead in the race he hasn’t relinquished yet. And with just a few weeks left in the season, Casas may ultimately run out of time to make his case.</p><p>But his continued hot streak cannot be ignored. Henderson may have been more consistent on the year, but he has been nowhere near Casas’ level for a few months now. Casas had an incredibly large gap to make up in terms of his production at the plate, and he has somehow managed to erase it to the point where he is outproducing Henderson in a slew of hitting categories.</p><p>Casas may not ultimately earn this award, but it’s clear he has a ton of momentum, and is actively closing the gap on Henderson. And while there may be a bit of bias here, it looks like his numbers are deserving of winning him the award over Henderson. Triston Casas has been one of the hottest hitters in the league for months now, and while he had a painfully slow start, that shouldn’t prevent him from walking away with the AL Rookie of the Year award when the season is officially over.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

If that’s the case, it’s sure a good thing that Triston Casas is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/red-sox-news-masataka-yoshida-triston-casas-combine-for-insane-boston-feat-not-seen-before-in-expansion-era" rel="noopener">finally figuring things out</a> at the plate.</p><p>Casas, who qualifies as a rookie this year after playing in just 27 games for the Sox last year, has had a fairly rocky season for Boston to this point. While he has excellent plate discipline, he was struggling to rack up hits early in the season, and the calls for him to be replaced as the team’s starting first baseman were growing.</p><p>However, Casas quietly began to turn things around in June, and has been on an <a href="https://www.audacy.com/weei/sports/red-sox/triston-casas-saves-the-day-for-the-red-sox" rel="noopener">absolute tear</a> since returning from the All-Star break. With the Sox struggling with inconsistency at different spots on their roster, having Casas develop into a consistent contributor is key, and he may just be making a star turn at the perfect time for the Red Sox.</p><h2><b>Triston Casas is beginning to reach his potential with the Red Sox</b></h2><p>It wasn’t long ago that Casas seemed to be the next top Red Sox prospect that would be unable to reach his potential. After an 0-4 game in a loss to the Colorado Rockies on June 12th, Casas’ average dipped down to .197, which was pretty awful considering he was playing basically everyday as Boston’s starting first baseman.</p><p>Ever since then, though, Casas has been a completely different player. In the ensuing 27 games, Casas has played the best baseball of his young career (.341 BA, 7 HR, 16 RBI, 1.091 OPS), raising his batting average all the way up to .244. If you want to shorten that sample size to the eight games since the All-Star break, you can see that is when Casas has done most of his damage during this recent hot streak (.455 BA, 5 HR, 8 RBI, 1.783 OPS).</p><p>These are small samples from a long 162-game season, but it’s becoming clear that Casas has finally found his groove at the plate. He’s still selective with what pitches he’s swinging at, but he’s beginning to put the barrel on the ball with much more frequency. Casas has always had great power at the plate, and he’s been hitting bombs at a high rate since returning from the break.</p><p>Casas has had stretches where he’s looked like he’s been breaking out of his shell before, only to fall apart quickly, so there is a chance that he will regress as time moves on. However, it’s been a month now since he began to orchestrate this turnaround, and he’s scalding hot right now. It’s beginning to look like Casas has finally arrived.</p><p>For Boston, this is a massive win for them. Not only is Casas producing in a lineup that has received great production from Rafael Devers, Masataka Yoshida, and Justin Turner this season, but he also looks like to be the long-term option at first base that he was always supposed to be. For a time, Casas looked like the left-handed version of Bobby Dalbec.</p><p>After splitting their quick doubleheader with the New York Mets on Saturday, the Red Sox are currently two games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the third and final wild card spot in the American League. In order for them to actually make a run for a playoff spot, they are likely going to have to be buyers at the trade deadline. But receiving this production from Casas could be like trading for a new star player without giving up anything in return.</p><p>Casas obviously isn’t going to hit .455 the rest of the way out and hit a home run every other game, but if he can continue to find his way on base and hit for average, that could be what the Sox need to fuel their playoff run. They obviously need a bit more help when it comes to their pitching staff, but adding Casas’ new level of production to an already solid lineup could push them to a new level.</p><p>The Red Sox haven’t had a lot go right for them over the past few years in terms of roster building, but seeing homegrown players such as Casas and Brayan Bello breakout this season is a sign that better things are coming for this team. Those better things could end up coming as soon as this season if Boston can find their way into the postseason, and if they do, chances are the red-hot Casas will end up playing a big role in that happening.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

It marked the 1st time in the Expansion Era (since 1961) that a pair of Red Sox rookie teammates have each homered in the first inning of a game.”</p><p>The Pirates actually got on the board first in the contest, with the Red Sox giving up three runs in the top of the opening frame before Boston hit right back with serious power from Yoshida, Casas, and Rafael Devers, who also hit a home run before his rookie teammates added to the team’s run total.</p><p>Prior to the meeting with the Pirates, the Boston had scored exactly nine runs in each of their first three games of the season — which were during a series at home versus the Baltimore Orioles that Boston won, two games to one.</p><p>While it’s hard to sustain the kind of offense the Red Sox are coming out with during the first week of the 2023 MLB campaign, they will continue to try to strike while the iron is hot.
