From an offensive standpoint, LA has lost Trea Turner, Justin Turner, and Cody Bellinger. Meanwhile, they saw a couple of key starting pitchers sign elsewhere in Tyler Anderson and Andrew Heaney. But there is a silver lining to the departures of Anderson and Heaney.</p><p>Bobby Miller, a pitcher who was the Dodgers’ No. 2 overall prospect in 2022, will likely make his big league debut in 2023. Miller’s call-up could <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/top-prospects-expected-to-debut-in-2023?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage" rel="noopener">come sooner rather than later</a> given the aforementioned free agency departures, per MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo.</p><p>“The Dodgers can replace some of the innings they lost with departed free agents Tyler Anderson and Andrew Heaney by turning to (Bobby) Miller,” Mayo wrote in a recent MLB.com article.</p><p>The Dodgers are excited about Bobby Miller’s future. However, other teams have expressed interest in the young flame-thrower. In fact, reports have stated that the Pittsburgh Pirates would want Miller in a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb-rumors-dodgers-price-for-acquiring-pirates-bryan-reynolds-revealed" rel="noopener">potential Bryan Reynolds trade</a>. And that fact alone lessens the chance of LA attempting to acquire the Pirates’ centerfielder.</p><p>The Dodgers could turn to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-the-surprising-angels-pitching-strategy-la-could-implement-in-2023" rel="noopener">6-man rotation</a> this season to keep their starters fresh and healthy. They currently have five starting pitchers that are expected to be locked into the rotation. The odds of Miller making the team out of Spring Training are slim. The veteran left-hander is fresh off of a superb All-Star campaign that saw him finish with a 3.31 ERA for the Los Angeles Dodgers. But Angels GM Perry Minasian <a href="https://twitter.com/gregbeacham/status/1593002148664528902" rel="noopener">revealed exactly what drew</a> the Halos to Anderson in free agency, per Greg Beacham.</p><p>“We think he’s exactly what we were looking for as far as adding to the rotation, not only for his talent but also the mental makeup,” Minasian said. “He’s got an edge to him, and we need that.”</p><p>Anderson turned his career around with the Dodgers in 2022. He was formerly regarded as a mediocre journeyman. However, he emerged as a star last season, which led to a 3-year, $39 million dollar deal with the Angels.</p><p>The Angels are looking to emphasize starting pitching this offseason. It has been a weak spot for them over the past few years, but many people around the MLB world feel they will be able to compete by developing a strong starting rotation.</p><p>Both the Angels and Dodgers <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-angels-amongst-teams-interested-in-japanese-star-free-agent-kodai-senga" rel="noopener">have been linked</a> to Japanese pitcher Kodai Senga. Senga is one of the top arms in free agency behind Jacob deGrom and Carlos Rodon.</p><p>The Angels projected 2023 starting rotation is set to include Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Anderson, Patrick Sandoval, and Reid Detmers. Due to Ohtani’s two-way player status, the Halos utilized a 6-man rotation a season ago. With Walker Buehler already set to miss most of the 2023 campaign due to injury, LA will be aggressive on the pitching market.</p><p>It should be noted that the Dodgers’ rotation still features depth. Clayton Kershaw already re-signed with team and Julio Urias has emerged as a Cy Young caliber left-hander. Tony Gonsolin enjoyed a breakout campaign and Dustin May has an immensely high ceiling. But they would still benefit from adding two more pitchers for depth purposes.</p><p>The Dodgers don’t need to sign a pitcher to a long-term deal. Walker Buehler is still in the long-term picture and prospect Bobby Miller projects to be apart of the rotation within the next couple of years. Without further ado, let’s take a look at two pitchers the Dodgers must target ahead of the 2023 campaign.</p><h2><b>Dodgers, Justin Verlander, and Hollywood go together</b></h2><p>Justin Verlander and the Dodgers would profile well with one another. Verlander is one of the most marketable players in the game and still has the talent necessary to benefit the team.</p><p>There are two non-talent related reasons why this signing makes a ton of sense for Los Angeles.</p><p>The Dodgers would  not have to sign Verlander to a long-term deal. The soon to be 40-year old would likely accept a 1-year deal with an option, as long as the contract included a high average annual salary.</p><p>The second reason is Justin Verlander is one of the few superstars not attached to a draft pick via qualifying offer. As a result, Los Angeles would not need to surrender draft capital if they signed Justin Verlander. The same cannot be said for a star such as Jacob deGrom.</p><p>Verlander also knows what it takes to win. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are desperate for a World Series victory. They have arguably featured the best roster in baseball over the past few years, but have just 1 championship title over the course of the past 30 seasons.</p><h2><b>The perfect trade</b></h2><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/1-perfect-mlb-trade-dodgers-must-make-this-offseason" rel="noopener">1 perfect</a> trade that the Dodgers could make this offseason would be to acquire Miami Marlins’ SP Pablo Lopez. LA was previously linked to Lopez ahead of the 2022 trade deadline. Although nothing came to fruition, Lopez still profiles as a pitcher who’d fit in the rotation.</p><p>Lopez enjoyed a strong 2022 season for Miami. But the Marlins are seeking offensive help, so LA could entice them by offering multiple offensive-based prospects.</p><p>Pablo Lopez is under team control through 2024, <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/miami-marlins/pablo-lopez-24585/" rel="noopener">per Spotrac</a>. This would allow the Dodgers to either utilize Lopez as a two-year rental on the pitching staff, or extend him to a multi-year deal. Regardless, his presence in the rotation would benefit the Dodgers in 2023.</p><h2><b>Dodgers’ 2023 outlook</b></h2><p>The Dodgers are going to be good in 2023. However, for this ball club, anything less than a World Series win will ultimately be considered a failure. If they stand pat this offseason, they may fizzle out in the playoffs once again in 2023. But if the Dodgers acquire these two pitchers in free agency and via trade, Los Angeles will be primed for a deep October run.</p><p>Justin Verlander’s veteran presence combined with Pablo Lopez’s ceiling would certainly excite the fan base as well. The free agent starting pitcher, who had a one-year, $19.65 million <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-will-la-make-19-65-million-tyler-anderson-move" rel="noopener">qualifying offer</a> on the table with the Dodgers, declined the offer and has instead signed a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels, per <a href="https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/1592623447691108356" rel="noopener">Jeff Passan of ESPN</a>.</p><p>Tyler Anderson’s three-year deal with the Angels is expected to be worth around $39 million. Anderson had a couple of major suitors other than the Dodgers, as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-rumors-tyler-anderson-suitors-emerge-with-la-expected-to-extend-qualifying-offer" rel="noopener">Los Angeles and the Boston Red Sox</a> had interest in the veteran left-hander.</p><p>Alas, it’s the Angels who win the Tyler Anderson sweepstakes- and the southpaw won’t have to move far. Anderson, 32, enjoyed a breakout season for the Dodgers in 2022, as he pitched to a 15-5 record with a 2.57 ERA and 138 strikeouts in 178 2/3 innings pitched.</p><p>The Las Vegas, Nevada native earned the first All-Star berth of his career thanks to the stellar season. Most importantly, he cashes in in MLB free agency.</p><p>Anderson cut down on the walks that had plagued him in his career, while also inducing soft contact better than he ever has. The combination was a career year- and a pitcher the Dodgers, who dealt with injuries to Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw and Tony Gonsolin, could depend upon.</p><p>That’s music to the Angels’ ears, as the staff needed another quality starter behind Shohei Ohtani after dealing Noah Syndergaard to the Philadelphia Phillies at the trade deadline.</p><p>It’s a big move for the Angels, one that will force the Dodgers to look elsewhere for starters.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

However, LA has not officially extended the offer, and the deadline to do so is November 10th.</p><p>Prior to the 2022 season, Tyler Anderson was a journeyman. He had spent 6 seasons in the big leagues with various different teams. Additionally, he had only posted an ERA below 4 once and had never posted an ERA below 3.50. And then he signed with the Dodgers in 2022.</p><p>LA helped him turn his career around and he went on to make the NL All-Star team while posting a 2.57 ERA in 178.2 innings of work. He also had an incredible scoreless inning streak during the season <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-dave-roberts-reacts-to-tyler-andersons-ridiculous-scoreless-streak-amid-clayton-kershaw-injury" rel="noopener">which drew a reaction</a> from Dave Roberts.</p><p>“He was, once again, so consistent. He made pitches when he needed to and kept those guys off-balance,” Roberts said.</p><p>Tyler Anderson’s 2022 performance was even more crucial considering Walker Buehler’s injury. And with Buehler set to miss most of 2023 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, the Dodgers may be even more motivated to bring Anderson back.</p><p>If LA does make Anderson a qualifying offer, the left-hander will have 10 days to accept it. If he opts to decline it, he will enter free agency and the Dodgers will receive a compensatory draft pick should he sign elsewhere.</p><p>The Dodgers <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/talent-is-hard-to-find-scott-boras-hints-at-cody-bellingers-dodgers-future-amid-struggles" rel="noopener">have a number of other decisions to make</a> on players such as Clayton Kershaw and Cody Bellinger.
