Last season, they set the record for the most losses in a season in the modern era. The modern era started in 1901, and the White Sox started using that name just a few years later, in 1904. Prior to that, they were known as the Chicago White Stocking, the St. Paul Saints, and the Sioux City Cornhuskers. In 2024, they lost 121 games, officially making themselves the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/worst-mlb-teams-history-white-sox-record-breaking-season">worst team baseball has ever seen</a>.</p><p>Unfortunately, despite a long and storied history, the White Sox have been pretty average throughout their time in MLB. In fact, they have a career winning percentage of .499. The team has also only won three World Series titles, with those championships coming in 1906, 1917, and 2005. None of that changes the fact that the White Sox have been around for a long time and have had plenty of legendary players suit up for them, though. So, check out the gallery to see the 10 greatest White Sox players of all time.</p><h2><b>1. Frank Thomas, 1990-2005</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Frank-Thomas.jpg"><figcaption>Matt Marton-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Frank Thomas, nicknamed The Big Hurt, is one of the biggest physical specimens to ever grace the sandlot. The White Sox’s record books are filled with Thomas’ name. He leads the organization in home runs (448), RBIs (1,465), on-base % (.427), and slugging % (.568).</p><p>Thomas <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/HR_career.shtml" rel="noopener">ranks 20th</a> in MLB history with 521 career homers, and he was one of the scariest hitters for opposing pitchers to face due to his daunting size and unmatched power. Thomas’ resume includes five All-Star nods, two AL MVP awards, four Silver Slugger trophies, and the 1997 batting title. There is even a case to be made that Thomas’ MVP-winning seasons weren’t his best years and that he should have been named the best player in baseball two or three more times.</p><h2><b>2. Luke Appling, 1930-43, 1945-50</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/10-greatest-Chicago-White-Sox-players-of-all-time-ranked-GALLERY3.jpg"></figure><p>Nobody has played in more games for the White Sox than Luke Appling. With 2,422 games in the black and white jerseys to his name, Appling is one of three players to surpass the 2,000-game threshold for the team. His 77.2 WAR during that time is by far the best mark in franchise history.</p><p>The shortstop is first in franchise hits (2,749), and he ranks inside of the top 10 in RBIs (1,116), on-base % (.399), and batting average (.310). Appling seemed to get better with age, and had he not had to take time off for World War II, his stats may have looked even better. Appling won two batting titles during his career.</p><h2><b>3. Ted Lyons, 1923-42, 1946</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/10-greatest-Chicago-White-Sox-players-of-all-time-ranked-GALLERY2.jpg"></figure><p>Ted Lyons is the best pitcher in White Sox history. He won 260 games with the team, and he even threw 356 complete games. Lyons is such an important figure in White Sox history because of how long he stuck around with the team. Lyons led the AL in wins as early as 1925, and he stuck around to be the AL ERA leader in 1942.</p><p>Despite being passed the age of 40, Lyons had his best season in 1942. He still chose to fight in World War II during the next baseball season despite being past the military draft age. Lyons was a great player, but he can’t rank higher than the two players above him on this list because his White Sox teams were pretty bad. In fact, Lyons never appeared in a postseason game during his lengthy MLB career.</p><h2><b>4. Eddie Collins, 1915-26</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/10-greatest-Chicago-White-Sox-players-of-all-time-ranked-GALLERY4.jpg"></figure><p>Eddie Collins was a winner who spent his prime with the White Sox. All in all, he won six World Series championships. Unfortunately, only one of those came with the White Sox, as the rest came with the Philadelphia Athletics. Still, the White Sox have only won the title three times, and the 1917 iteration of the team was arguably the best.</p><p>That means Collins was a part of the Black Sox era. In 1919, the White Sox fixed games during the World Series as a part of a gambling scheme, but more on that later. Luckily, Collins was a part of the “Clean Sox” and didn’t partake in any wrongdoing.</p><p>As a player, Collins was the ultimate competitor. He played with high energy and intensity. The second baseman was best on the basepaths, as three of his four seasons leading the AL in steals came during his White Sox tenure.</p><h2><b>5. Nellie Fox, 1950-63</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/10-greatest-Chicago-White-Sox-players-of-all-time-ranked-GALLERY5.jpg"></figure><p>Nellie Fox went to the All-Star Game in 12 of his 14 seasons with the White Sox. He was also the AL MVP in 1959, the same year that the “Go Go’ White Sox won the pennant. Fox was small in stature, but he worked hard and did all of the little things to ensure his team could win. Fox was excellent on defense at second base, and he was a great contact hitter.</p><h2><b>6. Paul Konerko, 1999-2014</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Paul-Konerko.jpg"><figcaption>John Rieger-Imgn Images</figcaption></figure><p>With such a long and rich history, a lot of the best White Sox ever played before anybody reading this was even born. Paul Konerko stands out as a modern star. First base has long been the White Sox’s best position. Thomas dominated in the ’90s, and Jose Abreu was great in the 2010s-20s. Konerko was sandwiched in between the two.</p><p>After not winning a title since 1917, Konerko won the 2005 ALCS MVP before leading his team to World Series championship glory. The six-time All-Star ranks first or second in most major batting categories for the team, including in home runs (432), hits (2,470), total bases (4,010), and RBIs (1,383).</p><h2><b>7. Minnie Minoso, 1951-57, 1960-61, 1964, 1976, 1980</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Minnie-Minoso.jpg"><figcaption>Matt Marton-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Minnie Minoso certainly has one of the weirdest careers in MLB history. Minoso’s professional baseball career started in the Negro Leagues with the New York Cubans. He then became the first black Cuban in MLB with the Cleveland Indians. His prime came with the White Sox, but he eventually went back to the Indians before then eventually going back to the White Sox.</p><p>After brief stints with the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Senators, Minoso played his last full season with the White Sox in 1964 before he retired. However, Minoso would return to action for Chicago 12 years later for a brief stint where he became the fourth oldest MLB player to record a hit at age 52. Minoso wouldn’t play again until four years later when he suited up as a 56-year-old, making him the fourth<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mlb-stories/10-oldest-players-to-ever-play-in-mlb"> oldest MLB player ever</a>. Overall, Minoso played for the White Sox in four different decades.</p><p>Including his time in the Mexican League, minor leagues, Negro Leagues, and MLB, Minoso was one of only nine players to surpass <a href="https://baseballegg.com/the-20-greatest-white-sox-of-all-time/" rel="noopener">4,000 career hits</a>. All-time MLB greats, including Pete Rose, Ichiro Suzuki, Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron, Derek Jeter, Jigger Statz, Julio Franco, and Stan Musial are the other player who did that. Two of Minoso’s three Gold Gloves came with the White Sox, and all three of his AL stolen base titles were when he was in the prime of his career with the team.</p><h2><b>8. Shoeless Joe Jackson, 1915-20</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Shoeless-Joe-Jackson.jpg"><figcaption>Alex Hicks Jr.-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Shoeless Joe Jackson has one of the best nicknames ever. He earned that nickname because he literally didn’t wear shoes in one at-bat. Jackson was one of the best players in the league during his time with the White Sox, evidenced by him being the team’s WAR leader in both their 1917 World Series victory and when the team made it back to the World Series two years later.</p><p>Unfortunately, that 1919 World Series is the biggest stain on his career. Jackson was banned from baseball along with seven other players because they were accused of taking money to throw games. There are disputes about Jackson’s involvement in the scandal. After all, he didn’t register an error and had a record-breaking 12 base hits in the series. That number wouldn’t be surpassed until 1964. Still, the Black Sox era, which prematurely ended Jackson’s playing days, will be a forever looming cloud over what was otherwise a fantastic career.</p><p>Jackson’s Chicago career wasn’t as long as the rest of the players on this list, and it ended on a sour note, but he was dominant on the diamond with the team. Jackson’s .340 batting average is the best in franchise history.</p><h2><b>9. Red Faber, 1914-33</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/10-greatest-Chicago-White-Sox-players-of-all-time-ranked-GALLERY3-1.jpg"></figure><p>Another player who played in the 1910s was Red Faber. The pitcher did not take part in the Black Sox scandal. In fact, the scandal allegedly only took place because Faber, who was the ace of the squad, couldn’t pitch in the series due to an illness. Had he played, history likely would have looked a lot different.</p><p>Any White Sox pitching record that doesn’t belong to Lyons probably belongs to Faber, and he even has the edge in a few stats. Faber threw 1,471 strikeouts, had 254 wins, and completed 273 games with the team. Faber is most known for his spitball, which was a legal pitch at the time.</p><h2><b>10. Mark Buehrle, 2000-11</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Mark-Buehrle.jpg"><figcaption>Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>There have only been 24 perfect games in MLB history. One of them came when Mark Buehrle was throwing for the White Sox. That wasn’t the only memorable moment for the southpaw in the South side, though. In Chicago, Buehrle won a championship, went to four All-Star Games, won three Gold Gloves, and even had an additional no-hitter. Buehrle was uber-consistent throughout his career. Los Angeles would send Triple-A outfielder James Outman and a top prospect to Chicago, per the outlet. That deal is kaput for now.</p><p>This season, Robert is batting .178 for Chicago. He has posted one home run and four RBIs.</p><p>The Dodgers have a 11-5 record, while the White Sox are struggling again at 4-10.</p><h2><b>Luis Robert Jr. has struggled in recent years for the White Sox</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Luis-Robert-Jr-with-Chicago-White-Sox-2.jpg"><figcaption>Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Robert is a fan-favorite in Chicago. The outfielder is one of the few bright spots on the offense for a club that has struggled mightily in recent years.</p><p>In 2024, Robert had a very bad season. So did <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/white-sox-news-chicago-gm-ridiculously-low-bar-2025">the White Sox, who lost well over 100 games</a>. Last year, the White Sox outfielder hit just .224 with just 35 RBIs. That was the lowest number of runs batted in he had since the 2020 season.</p><p>The young star is again off to a cold start this year. He has just eight hits in 13 games. Robert also has 13 strikeouts on the season, which is something that has plagued him in recent years. In 2024, the slugger posted 141 strikeouts in 100 games played.</p><p>While Robert is going through a slump, he is a very promising player. He won a Gold Glove in 2020, and was named an All-Star in 2023. That year he also won a Silver Slugger award, while posting 144 hits.</p><p>White Sox fans have had to stomach a lot of sour developments in recent years. Chicago fired their former manager Pedro Grifol in the midst of the disastrous 2024 campaign. The team also lost star pitcher Garrett Crochet. The team’s fans have fallen into apathy as the misery drags on.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/dodgers-news-dave-roberts-scary-admission-after-walk-off-win-vs-tigers">Things are headed in the opposite direction for the Dodgers</a>. Los Angeles is coming off a World Series championship and the club has spent hundreds of millions to sign top talent. Robert would be just another star on that club’s roster if a deal eventually goes through.</p><p>Time will tell what happens with Robert and the White Sox. Chicago plays Boston on Sunday. With his new team facing off against his old team, Crochet kept it 100% real when discussing the White Sox and their future now that he finds himself on the Red Sox.</p><p>For a point in time, Crochet appeared set to be a key piece of Chicago’s future, but now, he’s set to lead Boston’s starting rotation for the foreseeable future after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/boston-red-sox/red-sox-news-garrett-crochets-170-million-contract-best-vote">signing a six-year, $170 million contract extension</a> with the team shortly after the start of the 2025 campaign. And now that he’s with the Red Sox, it’s clear that Crochet <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/garrett-crochet-discusses-joining-red-sox-in-return-to-chicago" rel="noopener">isn’t too concerned</a> with what happens for the White Sox moving forward.</p><p>“Not really, no,” Crochet said when asked if he wants to see the White Sox’s return for him in their trade with the Red Sox pan out for them. “If it does, cool. The problem is that the Red Sox lineup has been scuffling to start the season, as they have trudged out to a 7-9 record despite their pitching staff doing their best to prevent their opponents from scoring runs consistently.</p><p>The result has seen Boston lose the first two games in their three-game series against Chicago, who are viewed as arguably the worst team in the league. It will be up to Crochet to help his new squad avoid an embarrassing sweep, as he will take the mound on Sunday afternoon for the Red Sox when they take on the White Sox at 2:10 p.m. ET. Former pitcher Lance Lynn <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-ex-mlb-player-honest-truth-on-struggles">acknowledged the White Sox’s struggles</a>, saying the organization is “behind everybody” in the majors.</p><p>Despite the obvious dysfunction, Chicago did manage to stumble onto a bright spot when the team selected Shane Smith in the Rule 5 draft this offseason. The 25-year-old rookie starting pitcher made his MLB debut in 2025 and has been a revelation for the White Sox early on.</p><p>Chicago drafted Smith out of the Milwaukee Brewers’ minor league system. A move that made White Sox GM Chris Getz <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6271636/2025/04/11/mlb-minor-league-ballparks/" rel="noopener">look shrewd</a>.</p><p>“It’s not a good feeling. It isn’t. And you reflect back on the process,” Getz said of losing a pitcher in the Rule 5 draft, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. “However, we didn’t see this coming either,” Getz added.</p><h2><b>The White Sox bolstered their rotation with new starter Shane Smith</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Shane-Smith-2.jpg"><figcaption>Rick Scuteri-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Smith toiled in the Brewers’ farm system for three years after the team signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2021. While he was effective as a minor league pitcher, Smith failed to gain traction, working primarily as a reliever for Milwaukee’s affiliates.</p><p>The White Sox, of all teams, saw Smith’s potential as a starter and scooped him up in the Rule 5 draft last December. All players drafted under Rule 5 immediately jump to their new team’s 40-man roster and must remain on the active roster for the entire season following the draft.</p><p>So far Smith has made the most of his automatic promotion to the majors. He made his MLB debut against the Minnesota Twins on April 1, going 5.2 innings and allowing two runs on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Despite his efforts, the White Sox would lose the game 8-2.</p><p>Smith was even more impressive in his second career start as he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning against the Cleveland Guardians. Ultimately, he threw six shutout innings, allowing two hits with one walk and six strikeouts.</p><p>Unfortunately, Smith did not receive any support from the team’s offense as the White Sox were shutout by the Guardians, losing 1-0. Entering Friday, Chicago has scored a MLB-worst 35 runs this season. Since then, however, the White Sox have gone just 1-10 and their current losing streak grew to eight games after Thursday’s defeat to the Cleveland Guardians. Chicago is off to yet another brutal start in 2025 and former White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn gave <a href="https://x.com/FoulTerritoryTV/status/1910426565273399509" rel="noopener">his take</a> on the team’s issues.</p><p>“Obviously Chicago is behind everybody. It’s just the honest truth,” Lynn said via Foul Territory on X.</p><p>“There’s a lot of great people there but when it comes to top-to-bottom organizationally, like, even minor leagues, coming up. I went down and spent a month rehabbing my knee there and I stayed with the Triple-A team. Despite this, owner <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-rumors-jerry-reinsdorf-sale-dumped-cold-water">Jerry Reinsdorf refuses to sell the team</a>.</p><p>After dropping a record 121 games in 2024, White Sox’s GM <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-chicago-gm-ridiculously-low-bar-2025">Chris Getz set a laughably low bar</a> for this season, stating simply that he thinks they’ll win more games in 2025. Still, that goal could be difficult to reach after the team traded its best pitcher, Garrett Crochet, to the Boston Red Sox over the offseason.</p><p>Lynn last pitched for Chicago in the first half of 2023. He spent two and a half seasons with the White Sox, getting selected to the All-Star Game and finishing third in Cy Young voting in 2021.</p><p>Lynn reunited with the St. Louis Cardinals last season on a one-year deal. While several teams expressed interest in acquiring the free agent hurler, an agreement was not reached this offseason and Lynn ultimately decided to <a href="https://x.com/FoulTerritoryTV/status/1910385813482844628" rel="noopener">move on</a>.</p><p>“Here’s the gist of it; I started making plans and they didn’t involve baseball, so it was pretty obvious the choice to make,” Lynn explained via Foul Territory on X.</p><p>“I was enjoying being at home. The numbers [from] the teams weren’t lining up. So, the way I looked at it was, there’s no good time to retire. So why try to force something and be miserable? If that’s your last year, that wouldn’t have been fun. I enjoyed my last year in St. Louis. My family was there, everybody was there [for] my last start. My last start was in Busch Stadium in a win. So it was like, I started to look at it that way. Just go enjoy your life. That was pretty much it,” Lynn added.</p><h2><b>Lance Lynn hung up his cleats after 13 MLB seasons</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Lance-Lynn.jpg"><figcaption>Jeff Curry-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The 37-year-old righty began his Major League career with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011, after the team selected him in the first round of the 2008 MLB draft. He spent his first six seasons with the Cardinals before becoming something of a journeyman.</p><p>Lynn pitched for six different teams over his 13-year career. He made two All-Star Games – with the Cardinals in 2012 and the Chicago White Sox in 2021. His first season with Chicago was probably his best, as he produced a career-high 163 ERA+ and finished third in Cy Young voting.</p><p>After a brief stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023, Lynn returned to St. Louis on a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/st-louis-cardinals/cardinals-news-lance-lynn-reunite-mlb-free-agency-one-year-10-million-deal">one-year, $10 million deal</a> in 2024. It would end up being his final MLB season. He made 23 starts for the Cardinals last year, going 7-4 with a 3.84 ERA, 1.338 WHIP and 8.4 K/9.</p><p>However, Lynn missed significant time with right knee inflammation and his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/st-louis-cardinals/cardinals-news-lance-lynn-season-done-il-move">season ended on the injured list</a>. The Cardinals decided not to pick up his 2025 option, paying a $1 million buyout instead.</p><p>Lynn went 143-99 overall in the majors. Previously, Preston worked as an associate editor for Dot Esports and a site expert for FanSided's Union and Blue.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Chicago White Sox</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Fans of the Chicago White Sox (and the Chicago Bulls) have pleaded for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-jerry-reinsdorf-considering-selling-team-121-loss-season">longtime owner Jerry Reinsdorf to sell the team</a> for many, many years, but it does not appear that is coming anytime soon.</p><p>Although Reinsdorf is now 89 years old and is among the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-jerry-reinsdorf-destroyed-ex-players-employees-takedown">most consistently maligned team owners</a> in all of sports, he reportedly <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2025/04/06/mathew-bowyer-gambling-ippei-mizuhara-sentencing/82955010007/" rel="noopener">plans to remain as</a> the owner of the White Sox, who experienced the worst season in modern MLB history last year.</p><p>“The Chicago White Sox, despite all of the rumors and speculation, are NOT being sold,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote.</p><p>“White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf, 90, has made it perfectly clear to friends that he has zero interest in selling as long as he remains in good health.”</p><p>Nightengale reported that Justin Ishbia, one of the White Sox’s most prominent minority owners, has tried to purchase Reinsdorf’s shares and take over the team. Reinsdorf, however, has “rebuffed” these attempts.</p><p>Reinsdorf bought the team back in 1981 for $19 million (worth about $66 million today), and if he sold the team today, the transaction would net Reinsdorf a jaw-dropping sum. According to Forbes, the franchise is valued at $2 billion despite being the only MLB team to have decreased in value from its 2024 valuation.</p><p>Under Reinsdorf’s leadership, the White Sox have made the playoffs just seven times in more than 40 years. But in 2005, the team won the World Series, the franchise’s first in 88 years, which certainly gave Reinsdorf a tad more leniency from fans for a while.</p><p>Ishbia, who had <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/minnesota-twins/twins-news-mat-ishbias-brother-drops-pursuit-twins-ownership">shown interest in buying the Minnesota Twins</a>, seemingly abandoned those hopes and subsequently made moves earlier this year by acquiring the shares of numerous White Sox limited partners at a valuation of $1.8 billion.</p><p>In addition to being a minority owner in the White Sox, Ishbia has ownership stakes in the NBA’s Phoenix Suns and WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury — his brother, Mat Ishbia, is the principal owner — and Nashville SC of Major League Soccer (MLS). The Ishbias have been criticized for their <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-news-nba-exec-jokes-ishbia-rule-kevin-durant-trade-backfiring">aggressive maneuvering of the Suns’ roster and trade assets</a> after trading for Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, the latter of whom has a no-trade clause.</p><p>Despite the mistakes in the NBA, White Sox fans would almost certainly jump for joy if Ishbia bought the team from Reinsdorf.</p><p>The White Sox are currently 2-6 and have lost their last four games.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

It seems like just a matter of time until the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-luis-robert-jr-believe-hasnt-been-traded">White Sox trade Luis Robert</a>. The centerfielder had a great spring training, and now that the regular season has begun and the White Sox are again struggling, a trade could be right around the corner. The Philadelphia Phillies seem like an ideal trading partner for the White Sox, but what trade package makes sense for both sides?</p><h2><b>Phillies trade proposal for Luis Robert</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Luis-Robert-1.jpg"><figcaption>David Banks-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><b>Phillies receive: </b>Luis Robert</p><p><b>White Sox receive: </b>Justin Crawford (Phillies No. 3, MLB No. 63), Gabriel Rincones Jr. (Phillies No. 10), Aroon Escobar (Phillies No. 13)</p><p>The Phillies have been World Series contenders for years now, but they haven’t been able to bring home the Commissioner’s Trophy with their current core. Contenders who need to get over the hump tend to make trades during the regular season, so a Robert to Philadelphia trade makes a lot of sense.</p><p>The Phillies are stacked on offense, so Robert would fit right in because he has middle-of-the-order talent. Having so much talent around him would take some of the pressure off and potentially change how teams pitch to their lineup. He’d help on defense as well. Robert has killer speed, which is something the Phillies lack.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/white-sox-news-chicago-dealt-luis-robert-injury-blow-amid-playoff-push">Robert has struggled with injuries</a> and plate discipline at times during his career, but at his best, he is one of the rare true five-tool players in baseball. He has <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/roberlu01.shtml" rel="noopener">hit as many</a> as 38 home runs in a season, and he has a .338 batting average year to his name. Robert is a somewhat high-risk, high-reward trade target due to his injury history, but he can also outplay what is expected of him as of now due to his star-level potential. The return on investment could be huge in a Robert trade because his trade value isn’t super high right now.</p><h2><b>Taking a look at the rebuild in Chicago</b></h2><p>In 2016, the White Sox blew things up and started one of the biggest rebuilds in the MLB has ever seen. They traded every one of note from their roster and created the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mlb-stories/top-10-mlb-farm-systems-ahead-of-2025-season"> best farm system in baseball</a> at the time. Over two days, Chicago traded Chris Sale and Adam Eaton away for Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Dane Dunning, Reynaldo Lopez, and Lucas Giolito.</p><p>The team would continue to trade for, draft, and sign elite prospects over the next couple of years. Perhaps the face of their rebuild was Robert. The outfielder from Cuba signed a contract as an international free agent with the White Sox in 2017, and he eventually agreed to a six-year, $40 million deal in 2020 before even reaching the major league level. Not long after that, he established himself as the best player on the team.</p><p>The rebuild seemed to pay off, as Chicago looked like a legitimate World Series contender by 2021. That year, they won 93 games with a young roster that looked like it could contend for years to come. Robert was looking like an All-Star caliber player, and he’d win that award in 2023, but the wheels fell off for the outfielder and his team quickly.</p><p>By 2024, the team had to blow things up yet again and start their rebuild over. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/worst-mlb-teams-history-white-sox-record-breaking-season">White Sox had one of the worst seasons ever,</a> as they went 41-121. That set the record for the most losses in the modern era. Over the course of the last two seasons, the team has been trading all of their veteran talent, a lot of which were among their prized prospect possessions only a few years prior.</p><p>They’ve held onto Robert so far, but a trade is inevitable. Holding onto the star made sense last year, considering his trade value was at an all-time low due to poor play and injuries. Robert seems to be stringing together a good run of health and production, though, and that is helping rejuvenate his trade value. When said trade value reaches a perceived maximum, the White Sox should cash in on a trade that brings in even more young talent. A <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6251430/2025/04/02/twins-white-sox-takeaways-correa-buxton-rain-delay/" rel="noopener">3-hour, 20-minute delay</a> pushed back first pitch and left the team stuck in a holding pattern at Guaranteed Rate Field. But instead of letting the delay derail them, the Twins found rhythm in the chaos, riding a dominant outing from Pablo López and a power surge at the plate to a 6-1 victory and their first series win of 2025.</p><p>“I was going insane,” López said of the delay. “It’s hard to turn it off and then turn it back on. But I was able to relax a little bit.”</p><p>López, who also dealt with a rain delay on Opening Day, took a pregame nap for the first time in his career—just like teammate Byron Buxton, who later joked that the nap gave him “a little extra juice.” On the 10th pitch of the afternoon, Buxton launched a 466-foot solo homer to center field, giving the Twins an early jolt.</p><p>From there, López set the tone. He retired 14 of his first 15 batters and didn’t allow a walk, scattering four hits and one run over seven innings. The only blemish was a solo homer by Brooks Baldwin in the seventh. Otherwise, he was clinical, throwing 12 pitches in the first inning—two for strikeouts—and keeping the White Sox off balance throughout.</p><h2><b>Pablo Lopez dominates on the mound for Twins</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Pablo-Lopez.jpg"><figcaption>Matt Marton-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>“I talked about it with some of the guys: ‘Let’s just go out there and attack,’” López said. “For the first three, four games, we carried away from that mentality.”</p><p>The Twins backed their ace with timely offense. Buxton’s leadoff homer set the tone, and Harrison Bader followed up in the fourth with a three-run blast to left, extending the lead to 4-0. Bader now leads the team with three home runs and eight RBIs, all coming off right-handed pitchers—traditionally a weak spot in his career.</p><p>“There’s obviously more to it than just pure numbers,” Bader said. “Every time you get a chance to be in a lineup, you get a chance to change that perception.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/twins-news-carlos-correa-sounds-off-on-minnesotas-quiet-offseason-as-health-improves">Carlos Correa also broke out of his 0-for-18 slump</a>, hitting a single in the third and doubling in the fifth. After reaching first, he lifted his arms in mock celebration as teammates jokingly called for the ball to be saved like a milestone hit.</p><p>“No frustration, just relief,” Correa said. “I didn’t know what to do anymore.”</p><p>Defensively, Buxton and Correa added to their strong nights with highlight-reel catches in swirling wind conditions. With the win, the Twins moved to 2-4 on the season, joining a five-way tie atop the AL Central.</p><p>“It’s like, ‘OK, we remember how to win,’” López said. “Once you get that first one, it’s easier to find your groove.”</p><p>With the rain delay behind them and momentum finally building, the Twins return home for their opener against the Houston Astros on Thursday, hoping this victory signals a turning point.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

This past offseason, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/angels-news-angels-trying-resurrect-2-time-all-stars-career">Anderson signed with the Los Angeles Angels</a>. The Angels are currently in Chicago to play the White Sox during Opening Weekend, and Anderson <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/2025/03/28/achicago-white-sox-tim-anderson-return/" rel="noopener">recently commented</a> on his time with his former ball club, via LaMond Pope of The Chicago Tribune.</p><p>“(Chicago is) always going to be a huge part of me,” Anderson said. “This is where it all started. That chapter is just all love. There’s a lot of love for me. I enjoyed my time here for sure.”</p><p>The White Sox ended up defeating the Angels by a final score of 8-1 in Anderson’s return. Anderson, a two-time All-Star, has struggled in recent seasons. He is hoping to get back on track in Anaheim with the Halos.</p><h2><b>Tim Anderson was a star with White Sox</b></h2><p>Anderson earned back-to-back All-Star selections in 2021 and 2022 with Chicago. From 2019-2022, he recorded at least a .301 batting average in each season. In 2019, led the American League with a .335 batting average.</p><p>In 2023, though, Anderson hit just .245. Things got even worse in Miami, as Anderson hit .214 with a .463 OPS. The former All-Star’s past two seasons have been forgettable, but the Angels believe he can turn things around. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-ex-batting-champ-gets-brutally-honest-on-career-hitting-rock-bottom-out-of-nowhere">Anderson is hoping to find his footing</a> with his new ball club.</p><p>Meanwhile, the White Sox have also endured a few miserable seasons in recent memory. Their 41-121 2024 record was historically bad. The team’s outlook does not look especially promising in 2025, either.</p><p>Chicago is rebuilding the team in hopes of competing sooner rather than later. He is a longtime podcaster and even longer suffering NY Jets fan.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Chicago White Sox</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Los Angeles Angels got embarrassed by the Chicago White Sox in what was undoubtedly the least appealing matchup of Opening Day. Last season the Angels and White Sox combined to win just 104 games as both teams missed the playoffs. This season, White Sox GM <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-chicago-gm-ridiculously-low-bar-2025">Chris Getz set a low bar for the team</a>, simply hoping to win more games than last year.</p><p>However, in the season opener, the Angels made Chicago <a href="https://x.com/SamBlum3/status/1905387790189105472" rel="noopener">look like championship contenders</a>. LA lost 8-1 to the White Sox. “It was a very ugly day for the Angels. They recorded just five hits. They needed a position player to pitch. A bad start,” The Athletic’s Sam Blum wrote on X.</p><p>The position player forced to take the mound for Los Angeles in the blowout was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-add-former-cubs-infielder-opening-day-roster">former Cubs infielder Nicky Lopez</a>, who was signed and added to the Angels’ roster the day before the season opener. While Lopez offers positional versatility, it’s unlikely he expected to make his LA debut as a pitcher.</p><h2><b>The Angels reach a new low</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Ron-Washington.jpg"><figcaption>James A. Pittman-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The game was actually manageable through seven innings. Yusei Kikuchi made his Angels debut after the team signed him to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-los-angeles-signs-yusei-kikuchi-63-million-contract">three-year, $63 million deal</a> this offseason. He went six innings and allowed three runs on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts.</p><p>Unfortunately the wheels fell off the wagon in the eighth when rookie reliever Ryan Johnson took the mound. He gave up five runs in 1.2 innings of work, including two home runs as the White Sox cracked the game open.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/angels-news-top-angels-prospect-drops-crazy-message-shockingly-making-roster">Johnson made the Angels’ Opening Day roster</a> despite never throwing a pitch in the minor leagues. Los Angeles selected Johnson in the second round of the 2024 draft and promoted him directly to the majors. He’s just the 24th player in baseball history to make the leap to a Big League club without spending any time in the minors. And that lack of experience showed as Chicago hammered him Thursday.</p><p>Angels fans were not thrilled with seeing their team get taken behind the woodshed by the White Sox, who lost a record 121 games last season. Reactions on social media were far from optimistic.</p><p>Los Angeles hasn’t reached the postseason in 10 years. And if Opening Day is any indication, that streak will continue.
