But the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-vladimir-guerrero-jr-hr-shohei-ohtani-world-series-record">Blue Jays have made it this far in the postseason</a> for a reason.</p><p>They do not give up and they have their eyes on the prize. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-john-schneider-vladimir-guerrero-jr-game-4-homer-toronto">Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was very much locked in</a> on Tuesday, as he led the Blue Jays offense en route to a 6-2 win over the Dodgers to even up the series. Guerrero even hit a two-run home run off of Shohei Ohtani in the top of the third inning to give the Blue Jays a lead that they would not relinquish.</p><p>The Blue Jays star was just a nuisance on the night for the Dodgers to deal with — going 2-4 on the night with one walk to go along with his long ball and two RBIs. And Guerrero, who was born in Canada which makes him a citizen by berth, <a href="https://twitter.com/OmerOsman200/status/1983373047580242275" rel="noopener">dedicated that</a> Game 4 win to the city of Toronto and, by extension, his home nation.</p><p>“That’s what I always try to do. Compete for my city. Compete for the team. They ended up scoring four earned runs off of Ohtani, and two more off their bullpen.</p><p>Guerrero will have to come up huge yet again, this time against Blake Snell. After taking a gut-wrenching loss in 18 innings in Game 3, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-ernie-clement-game-4-world-series-comeback">Jays ran away with Game 4</a> in the late innings to get a 6-2 victory.</p><p>Toronto was already seemingly behind the 8-ball coming into this game after burning a majority of its bullpen in Game 3, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-george-springer-world-series-game-4-lineup">losing George Springer to an injury</a> and still losing the game, and things seemed to be getting worse after a sacrifice fly from Kiké Hernandez put the Dodgers up 1-0.</p><p>That’s when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stepped in. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-vladimir-guerrero-jr-hr-shohei-ohtani-world-series-record">Blue Jays superstar launched a two-run home run</a> in the top of the third inning off of Shohei Ohtani to put the Jays in front 2-1, a lead they would never relinquish. I think that gives you some momentum. … That swing from Vlad was a game-changer.”</p><p>That was Guerrero’s seventh home run of the postseason to go with 14 RBIs during this playoff run. He reached base three times in Game 4, consistently providing a presence at the top of the Blue Jays lineup.</p><p>Guerrero was bumped up to the No. 2 spot in the Blue Jays order in this game after the injury to Springer and he did not disappoint. He isn’t quite on the same level of heater in this series as he was in the previous two, but a game like Game 4 could kickstart him again with at least two games left.</p><p>If the Blue Jays are going to upset the Dodgers in the coming days, they will need more moments of magic from Guerrero. However, the bases would’ve been empty, rather than with a man in scoring position after the Guerrero walk.</p><p>While the double play certainly would’ve changed things, Dodgers reliever Anthony Banda struggled once again in the seventh inning blow up. He allowed two runs in two thirds of an inning. Furthermore, the pair of runners Ohtani stranded both scored. This outing comes after Banda gave up three runs in two thirds of an inning in Game 1.</p><p>The Blue Jays would go on to win 6-2, evening up the series at two games a piece. It won’t top the 18 inning classic from Game 3, but the seventh inning in Game 4 has now shifted the momentum.</p><p>After one more game in Los Angeles, the World Series will then conclude in Toronto. If the Blue Jays bats stay hot, they’ll feel more confident in taking home the hardware. The 2020 Cy Young had not pitched in an MLB game since April of last year and was a massive question mark going into the final month of the 2025 regular season. Sometimes, though, a leap of faith can take a ballclub a long way.</p><p>Toronto’s gamble is paying off in the playoffs. Although he has posted a couple of brief and rocky outings this postseason, Bieber has stepped up for the American League champions in critical situations. One night after the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-max-scherzer-guarantee-18-inning-game-3-loss">Blue Jays lost an 18-inning heartbreaker</a> to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of the World Series, the right-handed pitcher <a href="https://x.com/theScore/status/1983351639353508234" rel="noopener">excelled in the most important start</a> of his career.</p><p>Bieber allowed one run on four hits in 5.1 innings on Tuesday night. The two-time All-Star walked three batters and ran into some trouble in the sixth inning, but <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-shane-bieber-ends-shohei-ohtani-streak">he did his part</a> to help send the Blue Jays back to Rogers Centre for a Game 6. While players are told to have a short memory, this team needed someone to pick it up after Monday’s brutal 6-5 loss. Bieber obliged, and maybe made himself a little more money in the process.</p><p>The 30-year-old has a $16 million player option for next season, and based on what he has accomplished with Toronto this year, Bieber will likely opt for free agency. Things appeared to be looking up for LA after a Kiké Hernandez sacrifice fly gave them an early lead in Game 4, and the Blue Jays needed a spark to get back in the game and the series.</p><p>Thankfully for Toronto, its superstar provided exactly that. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-vladimir-guerrero-jr-takes-shohei-ohtani-deep-in-third-inning">Vladimir Guerrero Jr. crushed a two-run home run</a> off of Ohtani in the third inning to give Toronto the lead, and it would never look back.</p><p>The Jays have been clutch all postseason long, and Guerrero’s latest home run helped them break a record in the process. The Blue Jays now have four go-ahead home runs while trailing in these playoffs, <a href="https://x.com/SlangsOnSports/status/1983354812130566523" rel="noopener">which is the most all-time</a> according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.</p><p>The Blue Jays, despite being very thin in the bullpen after Monday night’s marathon, proceeded to shut down a Los Angeles lineup that can do damage against even the best pitchers. Meanwhile, the offense continued to thrive, putting up a four-run seventh inning to widen the gap to 6-1 as they try to even the series up at two and guarantee that this World Series will go back to Toronto for a Game 6.</p><p>Guerrero has been the star of the show all postseason long for the Blue Jays, and Tuesday night was no different. The Game 4 homer was Guerrero’s seventh of these playoffs and his 10th extra-base hit overall. He reached base three times in Game 4, and his two RBIs give him 14 in total during this run.</p><p>Toronto still has a very tall task ahead of it, as the Dodgers will still be favored to win this World Series based on their advantage in the starting pitching. Blue Jays starter Shane Bieber escaped a jam with a runner on first and third and only one out. Hernandez would score Max Muncy; however, Bieber would get the final out with a flyout. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-kike-hernandez-wastes-no-time-making-game-4-defensive-highlight">Hernadez made plays early on</a>. He started the game by robbing Blue Jays left fielder Nathan Lukes of an at-bat by reaching over the stands for the out.</p><p>In the top of the third inning, Lukes singled with one out in the inning. On the very next at-bat, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. smashed a two-run home run to left field off of starter Shohei Ohtani. Game 3 of the WS saw some history made as not only was it the longest World Series game of all time, but Ohtani reached base on all nine of his at-bats. In fact, before a strikeout in the third inning, Ohtani had reached base <a href="https://x.com/MLB/status/1983329165010215335" rel="noopener">11 consecutive times</a> with a walk in the first inning. He left Game 3 with this same injury and was unable to even DH tonight. On the other hand, this is the World Series and Ohtani is 18 hours removed from a game in which he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-derek-jeter-nearly-speechless-about-shohei-ohtani">reached base nine — yes, nine — times</a>.</p><p>Ohtani hit two home runs, had two doubles and walked five times (four times intentionally) during the Dodgers’ 6-5 Game 3 win, which lasted 18 innings and nearly seven hours.</p><p>Dodgers manager Dave Roberts <a href="https://www.mlb.com/bluejays/news/blue-jays-lose-to-shohei-ohtani-dodgers-in-world-series-game-3" rel="noopener">wasn’t surprised</a> that Toronto did not seem interested in pitching to Ohtani, saying after the game that “I get it.”</p><p>“He’s the best player on the planet, he was on the heels of a huge offensive night and John smelled that,” Roberts said, per MLB.com. “He wasn’t going to let Shohei beat him at all, obviously, and even when nobody was on base, [he was] putting him on to make the other guys beat him.”</p><p>After a slow start to the postseason, Ohtani is hitting .458 over his last six games with a mind-boggling 1.956 OPS. That’s thanks in part to his Game 3 performance and his three-home-run night in the deciding game of the NLCS — a game in which he also threw six shutout innings and struck out 10 Milwaukee Brewers.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-shohei-ohtani-pitch-game-4">Ohtani will get the ball as starting pitcher</a> as well in Game 4 of the World Series as he looks to build one of the greatest 24-hour stretches the game has ever seen. If the Blue Jays decide to pitch to him, he will face Shane Bieber, going for Toronto.
