Adding him to the starting rotation gives the team a major boost in pitching, and it sounds like he is planning on focusing on one key area to improve his game for next season. If he can follow through with his goal, then it could lead to a huge year for Cease.</p><p>During a guest appearance on “Foul Territory,” the 29-year-old pitcher claimed that he has a staff of coaches <a href="https://x.com/FoulTerritoryTV/status/1999939885948657999" rel="noopener">helping him improve his biomechanics</a>, which will allow him to play baseball without thinking as much. This past year, Lee finished with a record of 4-1 and pitched in 32 games. Altogether, he finished with an ERA of 4.10, had 36 strikeouts, and had no saves. </p><p>Meanwhile, Simon is a left-hander who has played four years in the minor leagues. During this season, he accumulated a record of 1-2 with an ERA of 3.79 and 45 strikeouts with the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League. </p><p>Overall, Simon has compiled a minor league record of 10-8, a 3.73 ERA, and 167 strikeouts. </p><p>Toronto is coming off <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-world-series-feat-mlb-history" rel="noopener">playing in the World Series</a> for the first time since 1993. While some deals have proved elusive, Toronto <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-lands-dylan-cease-210-million-blockbuster-deal">signed prized starting pitcher Dylan Cease</a> to a seven-year, $210 million contract.</p><p>With the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-news-fans-cant-believe-game-7-world-series-comeback">Dodgers’ Game 7 comeback</a> still fresh in mind, the Blue Jays looked to add to their bullpen. On Friday, Toronto <a href="https://x.com/JeffPassan/status/1999641698952179843" rel="noopener">reached an agreement</a> with Tyler Rogers, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The team landed the coveted righty reliever on a three-year, $37 million deal that includes a fourth-year vesting option.</p><h2><b>Blue Jays bring Tyler Rogers to Rogers Centre</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Tyler-Rogers-2.jpg"><figcaption>Jim Rassol-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Rogers spent the first six and a half seasons of his career with the San Francisco Giants. However, the New York Mets acquired the veteran hurler at the trade deadline in 2025.</p><p>The Mets were interested in keeping Rogers after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-rumors-new-york-interested-reliever-losing-edwin-diaz-dodgers">losing Edwin Diaz to the Dodgers</a>. But the Blue Jays beat New York to the punch. The soon-to-be 35-year-old reliever is known for his distinctive submarine delivery, with an arm angle so low his knuckles nearly scrape the mound.</p><p>Like New York, Toronto was interested in pursuing Diaz before LA landed him on a $69 million deal. But the former San Diego Padres closer signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Atlanta Braves.</p><p>With the reliever market shrinking, Toronto pulled the trigger on Rogers. The seven-year veteran has been remarkably consistent throughout his career. However, Rogers had a particularly stellar 2025 campaign. He posted a 1.98 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 32 holds in 81 appearances between the Giants and Mets.</p><p>Toronto has prioritized pitching early in the offseason. This is the third time Shapiro has signed a five-year extension, with his latest in 2021.</p><p>“Mark’s exceptional leadership has been a driving force behind the Blue Jays success, and we’re thrilled he will continue to lead our team and build on their incredible momentum,” said Edward Rogers, the chair of the Blue Jays said, in a statement.</p><p>“We are excited to work with Mark and his team to give them the tools and resources they need to bring World Series championships back to Canada.”</p><p>In 2015, Shapiro became the team president and CEO. Since then, the Blue Jays have grown into a prominent franchise. Their World Series appearance against the Dodgers marked their first time in the fall classic since 1993.</p><p>Altogether, Toronto <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-ken-rosenthal-harsh-take-toronto-94-win-season">finished with a record of 94-68</a>. Because of that, there has been no shortage of potential suitors.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mlb-stories/mlb-rumors-mets-blue-jays-pivoting-to-robert-suarez-after-dodgers-edwin-diaz-contract-agreement">Atop the list are the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays</a>, who need a new ninth inning option for different reason. Suarez’s fit with both teams is so strong that Bob Nightengale of USA Today <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2025/12/10/mlb-winter-meetings-end-biggest-offseason-questions/87709243007/" rel="noopener">mistakenly predicted</a> that both the Mets <i>and </i>Blue Jays will sign Suarez.</p><p>“Prediction: The Blue Jays sign free agent right fielder Kyle Tucker and closer Robert Suarez, too, while letting shortstop Bo Bichette walk,” Nightengale wrote.</p><p>“Prediction: The Mets take a run at Bellinger, but wind up trading for Astros first baseman Christian Walker or signing free agent Kazuma Okamoto, while also signing starter Michael King and reliever Robert Suarez,” Nightengale also wrote.</p><p>That obviously can’t happen, so perhaps the Nightengale gaffe can be chalked up to the chaos of the Winter Meetings. Regardless, New York and Toronto will remain linked to Suarez until the closer signs his name on the dotted line.</p><p>The Mets were victim of Diaz’s departure, as he has been their closer since 2019. While New York signed Devin Williams in free agency, they may opt to use him as a premium setup man rather than a true closer.</p><p>The Blue Jays paid Jeff Hoffman $33 million to be their closer entering the 2024 season. However, he tied for the third-highest amount of blown saves in 2025 with seven. He should still play a big role in the bullpen, but Toronto is eyeing a new closer.</p><p>Suarez enters free agency off of back-to-back All-Star appearances. He had a league-leading 40 saves in 2025. Throughout his entire four-year MLB career, Suarez has put up a 2.91 ERA, 219/63 K/BB ratio and 77 total saves.</p><p>The closer will continue to be linked to any team in need of a closer that are willing to spend. So other than that, Belli doesn’t have much interest.”</p><p>Boras dropped hints on eight teams that are asking about Bellinger. The Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Angels are the teams. Overall, Boras did a nice job just saying the team’s name. “North…Birds” was a stretch, but it got the point across.</p><p>Bellinger is a former MVP from his time with the Dodgers. Now, after one great season with the Yankees, he has one last chance to cash in. He has the right teams involved, as many of the high-spending teams are in Boras’ riddle.</p><p>The Reds stick out as a small-market team that has thrown its hat in the ring for Bellinger. The Blue Jays manager said there’s still a lot of game footage from the series he hasn’t been able to watch.</p><p>“I don’t know when I will. It will probably involve a beer or two when the kids are asleep, and I can throw some stuff against the wall,” Schneider added jokingly.</p><p>Toronto won the American League East during the 2025 season, by just slipping past the New York Yankees. The team is trying to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/mlb-rumors-bo-bichette-suitors-steal-blue-jays-change-position">hold on to Bo Bichette, who is a free agent</a>. Bichette has lots of interest this offseason, and is one of the league’s hottest free agents now that Kyle Schwarber re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies.</p><p>Blue Jays officials have kept quiet at MLB’s winter meetings about their talks with Bichette. Toronto fans are waiting restlessly to see if their team can hold on to their young star.</p><p>Toronto made one big free agent addition this offseason already, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/blue-jays-news-perfect-signing-dylan-cease-deal">by signing veteran starting pitcher Dylan Cease</a>. While <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/dodgers-rumors-ex-padres-closer-robert-suarez-emerges-free-agency-candidate">the Dodgers had interest in Suarez</a>, there are other teams that have not stepped up to the plate and are interested in the reliever.</p><p>According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the New York Mets and the Toronto Blue Jays are the <a href="https://x.com/jonmorosi/status/1998430773360369874" rel="noopener">“top suitors”</a> for Suarez.</p><p>“With Edwin Diaz off the market, the Mets and Blue Jays are among the top suitors for Robert Suarez, sources say,” Morosi wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Suarez has emerged as one of the league’s best closers over the past two seasons, recording 36 saves in 2024, but having a whopping 40 in 2025, which ranked second in the MLB to Carlos Estevez’s 42, who is with the Kansas City Royals. Along with the 40 saves, Suarez also recorded a 2.97 ERA with 75 strikeouts.</p><p>Besides the Mets and the Blue Jays being considered the front-runners for Suarez, another team that emerged coming out of the recent Winter Meetings <a href="https://x.com/francysromeroFR/status/1998123554521370651" rel="noopener">as looking for a closer</a> is the Chicago Cubs, according to Francys Romero.</p><p>“Hearing from the Winter Meetings that the Cubs are still exploring the closer market, with Robert Suárez as one of the ideal candidates,” Romero wrote on X.</p><p>This would fall in line with recent reporting from Michael Cerami that, despite signing another reliever in Phil Maton, the Cubs are still engaged in the <a href="https://x.com/Michael_Cerami/status/1992285585277383063?s=20" rel="noopener">“impact free agent relief market.”</a></p><p>At any rate, it remains to be seen where Suarez ends up, as there is a bevy of interest around the MLB, especially for an elite reliever and closer.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
