Things haven’t been great for the rebuilding Nats for the entire season, and things hit a new low when MacKenzie Gore and Victor Robles got into a confrontation in the dugout during their 9-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nationals-news-dave-martinez-controversial-call-astros" rel="noopener">manager Dave Martinez</a> doesn’t seem too concerned with the incident.</p><p>Gore appeared to be upset with Robles’ effort on a line drive hit to center field that he appeared to have a chance to catch. Instead, he slowed up and let the ball fall in front of him, and on the next batter, Gore allowed a two-run home run to Dylan Carlson. After the game, though, Martinez said the incident was something that happened in the heat of the moment, and that the team would be <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/37890876/nationals-mackenzie-gore-victor-robles-engage-dugout-exchange" rel="noopener">moving on from</a> it.</p><p>“They talked about it. We talked about it. It’s good. It happens. We are trying to compete. It happens. I just wanted to make sure that nothing was going to go crazy there in the dugout, so I just got in between them. It was good. Few words were said, and then it was done. Obviously, MacKenzie thought he should have caught the ball. I thought he should have caught the ball, but it was windy. I think he thought he was going to catch it easy, and the ball just died on him and he couldn’t get there.” – Dave Martinez, ESPN</p><p>Confrontations like this happen all the time in sports, so it isn’t outrageously concerning to see Gore and Robles be upset with each other. With the D-Backs leading 7 – 1 in the eighth inning, ace pitcher Madison Bumgarner gave up a solo home run to Nats outfielder Victor Robles. Afterwards, Robles celebrated the hit. Fairly normal stuff, right?</p><p>Not for Bumgarner, no. The Diamondbacks pitcher <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/diamondbacks-news-madison-bumgarner-tees-off-on-clown-victor-robles-for-barry-bonds-hr-celebration/">slammed</a> the Nationals hitter for celebrating what is essentially a garbage-time home run. Bumgarner called Robles a clown for allegedly celebrating ‘like Barry Bonds’. So what did Robles do during their next face-off? Well, this. Well, Robles’ manager Dave Martinez certainly didn’t find it hilarious in any sense. After the Nationals’ close 4-3 win against the Diamondbacks, Martinez went on a little rant about Robles’ stunt. A common criticism of the MLB from younger fans is their insistence in upholding the “unwritten rules”. More often than not, these rules disallow players from expressing themselves during the game. The Diamondbacks-Nationals fiasco is another instance of managers sucking the fun out of the game.</p><p>To be fair, though, Martinez has plenty of reason to be a little miffed at this point of the season. The Nationals have not been able to find any sort of consistent success this year. To make matters worse, they are in danger of losing Juan Soto on the trade deadline. Perhaps Robles’ celebration didn’t sit well with Martinez because he feels the team hasn’t done anything to deserve celebration.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

After hitting a home run off Bumgarner, Robles went a bit over the top with his celebration, drawing ire from the veteran southpaw. Robles unapologetically stared down the Diamondbacks dugout while wearing the clown nose, getting the last laugh in his exchange with Bumgarner.</p><p>Bumgarner was pitching one of his best games of the season when Robles took him deep in the eighth inning. It was a solo shot that didn’t do much to impact the score (the Nationals lost 7-2), but that didn’t prevent Robles from celebrating his third homer of the season.</p><p>“He’s a clown. Golly. No shame. No shame,” Madison Bumgarner said of Victor Robles after the eighth-inning home run. “It’s 7-1, you hit your third home run of the year, you act like Barry Bonds breaking the record. Clean it up. I don’t care about giving up the run. Hell, we won 7-2. That’s frustrating.”</p><p>While Bumgarner attempted to go scorched earth on Robles for his Barry Bonds-esque celebration, the 25-year-old was not phased in the slightest, going as far as to troll the 32-year-old with his clown nose.</p><p>We’re sure Bumgarner won’t be too pleased about this one, though it may be in his best interest to simply let it go.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Facing a fellow struggling team in the Washington Nationals, they looked incredible. The result was a dominant 7-2 win for the D-Backs. However, the game was not without a bit of drama, which happened during the eighth inning of the game.</p><p>Diamondbacks ace Madison Bumgarner was having a near-perfect game on the mound. He would eventually end the game with nine strikeouts and just two runs allowed. One of those runs came on a solo home run from Nationals hitter Victor Robles. When asked about it after the game, the Diamondbacks ace said that the Nats hitter had “no shame”, while acknowledging that he sounded like a grumpy old man with his comments.</p><p>“He’s a clown. Golly. No shame. No shame,” Bumgarner said. “It’s 7-1, you hit your third home run of the year, you act like Barry Bonds breaking the record. Clean it up. I don’t care about giving up the run. Hell, we won 7-2. That’s frustrating.”</p><p>That’s certainly a weird thing to be hung up on. It would be understandable if the Diamondbacks were losing badly during the game and Robles gloated his hit. However, that wasn’t the case: Bumgarner’s team was winning comfortably. It’s a rather bizarre rant that could possibly be attributed to the pitcher’s competitiveness.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
