Corey Seager continues to recover from an injury that hobbled him down the stretch. Now, another injury robs the team of a chance to see a big piece of their future on the field.</p><p>While fans were excited to see prospects Sebastian Walcott and Gavin Fein play, they will have to wait to see their team’s top prospect. The Arizona Fall League is a training ground for prospects as they try to earn a promotion to the big leagues. The Rangers enter the stretch with multiple talented players who get their chance to shine. However, Walcott is out for a while.</p><p>According to MLB.com’s Kennedi Landry, the team’s top prospect <a href="https://x.com/kennlandry/status/1978221627679588483" rel="noopener">won’t play</a> because of an arm issue.</p><p>“Rangers’ top prospect Sebastian Walcott has been shut down in the Arizona Fall League due to arm fatigue. The plan is just for him to rest and be re-evaluated in the coming days,” Landry said.</p><p>Walcott is chomping at the bit to get to the big leagues and potentially play for Bochy’s successor next year. The 19 year old is expected to arrive in the big leagues at some point in 2026. While his path to the majors is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/texas-rangers/rangers-news-corey-seager-marcus-semien-season-ending-updates-bruce-bochy">dependent on Seager’s health</a>, Walcott’s talent can’t be ignored. However, the team is not taking any chances ahead of the beginning of Arizona Fall League.</p><p>Walcott, Fein, and the rest of the Rangers’ prospects are a key pieces of the team’s offseason. If the team brings in a good Bochy replacement, Texas has the leadership to return to contention in the American League. If not, 2026 could be a rebuilding season that sees Walcott and other prospects get their opportunity on the biggest stage.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Outfielder <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/yankees-news-cody-bellinger-25-million-contract-option-decision">Cody Bellinger is expected to opt out of his contract</a>, which would make him a free agent this offseason. So will Bellinger return to New York or head elsewhere in free agency?</p><p>The 30-year-old will likely be seeking a long-term deal. He previously signed a short-term contract with the Chicago Cubs that included opt-outs before getting traded to the Yankees last offseason. The left-handed slugger performed well in 2025, however, so a long-term contract could now be an option.</p><p>Bellinger slashed .272/.334/.480 across 152 games played while also hitting 29 home runs and 25 doubles. The veteran’s .813 OPS was his highest mark since 2023 and second best overall OPS since his 2019 MVP season.</p><p>Cody Bellinger will likely draw plenty of interest this winter. Without further ado, here are three perfect free-agency destinations for him.</p><h2><b>San Francisco Giants</b></h2><p>Bellinger’s defensive versatility gives him an advantage in free agency. He can realistically play any of the outfield positions while also helping out at first base if necessary. The Giants have displayed the potential to contend in recent years, but they are still a few pieces away.</p><p>San Francisco finished the 2025 campaign with a .697 team OPS — a mark that was 22nd in the major leagues. The Giants’ 173 home runs were 19th. Adding 29 long balls and an .813 OPS to the lineup certainly wouldn’t hurt matters.</p><p>Of course, Yankee Stadium is especially friendly to left-handed hitters, while Oracle Park in San Francisco is more of a pitcher’s paradise. Nevertheless, Bellinger features enough offensive upside to find success in any stadium. He’s also a good enough outfielder to cover a lot of ground in San Francisco’s large outfield.</p><p>Adding Bellinger would give the Giants a lineup that features the former MVP along with stars such as Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman and Willy Adames.</p><p>Of course, we can’t ignore one final note: Cody Bellinger happens to be quite familiar with the Giants after spending the first portion of his career with their rival — the Los Angeles Dodgers.</p><h2><b>Texas Rangers</b></h2><p>The Rangers are not exactly known for their free-agency prowess. Texas doesn’t always sign big-name players during the offseason. With a new manager in Skip Schumaker, however, there may be some urgency to win soon in the Lone Star State.</p><p>The Rangers — similar to the Giants — were competitive but missed the postseason in 2025. Their .683 team OPS and 175 home runs placed 26th and 18th overall.</p><p>Texas is another ballclub that could use an outfield boost. Adolis Garcia endured a down 2025 campaign, while Evan Carter has struggled to stay on the field. Wyatt Langford is a good young player with a high ceiling, but the Rangers could use another outfielder.</p><p>In all reality, the chances of Bellinger ending up in Texas are fairly slim. If the Rangers decide to be aggressive during the offseason, though, perhaps they will at least inquire about the 30-year-old.</p><h2><b>New York Yankees</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Yankees-left-fielder-Cody-Bellinger-against-Twins.jpg"><figcaption>Yannick Peterhans-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>A return to the Yankees makes plenty of sense for Cody Bellinger. He found success this past season, and as mentioned earlier, the ballpark complements him as a left-handed slugger.</p><p>New York’s offense was tremendous in 2025 — recording an MLB-best .787 OPS and 274 home runs. The Yankees could probably still find success without Bellinger from an offensive standpoint. However, with right-handed sluggers such as Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton anchoring the lineup, having a left-handed presence like Bellinger helps.</p><p>Bellinger’s defense is important as well. The Yankees have endured ups and downs from a fielding standpoint over the years. Bellinger positively impacts them on the field, though.</p><p>Returning to the Yankees would probably be Bellinger’s best decision. Still, he would be wise to consider all of his offers before making a final decision.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

A number of options were mentioned, but former player Skip Schumaker emerged as a serious candidate. Sure enough, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/texas-rangers/rangers-news-skip-schumaker-new-manager">Schumaker was recently announced as the Rangers’ new manager</a>.</p><p>On Friday, the Rangers held Schumaker’s introductory press conference — where he was asked why he accepted the job.</p><p>“The unique opportunity to really learn an organization for a full year just doesn’t happen,” Schumaker <a href="https://www.facebook.com/61578348724936/videos/1130895949157129" rel="noopener">told reporters</a>, via Rangers Sports Network. “I quickly learned the passion CY (Chris Young, Rangers’ president of baseball operations) has for winning… and doing whatever he can to make this a first class organization. The alignment is real. Hardcore values and what we expect every single day, and making winning the most important part of our day, is exactly who I am and what my family is about.”</p><h2><b>Rangers’ new manager Skip Schumaker believes in “winning </b>culture”</h2><p>Schumaker made it clear that the potential to win played a pivotal role in his final decision. He clearly has strong belief in what the Rangers are building.</p><p>“I believe in a winning culture… Everywhere you walk around, every single department is about winning,” the new manager continued. “And winning culture to me is about communication… We are going to be the best at communicating from the front office all the way down to the clubhouse staff and training staff. We are absolutely aligned in what we think winning looks like and giving our best every single day.</p><p>“It doesn’t matter how much we can give, but we’re going to give everything we can that day to win…. Not every organization is ready to win a championship everyday and the players that we have, and the front office that we have, the staff that we have, made it easily the most attractive place to be.”</p><p>Schumaker brings an impressive track record to Texas. He spent 11 years in the big leagues as a player — spending time with the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds. He received his first managing job in Miami with the Marlins in 2023. His first season went fairly well, as he led the ball club to an 84-win campaign. Miami went in a different direction following Schumaker’s 62-win 2024 season, however.</p><p>Still, Schumaker had established himself as a legitimate big league manager. He was expected to be a popular possibility for teams in need of a new head coach this offseason. The Rangers did not waste any time, though, agreeing to a contract with Schumaker not long after their regular season came to an end.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

However, injuries, ineffectiveness, and regression/ lack of growth have held the Rangers back. Veteran manager Bruce Bochy elected not to return. He was replaced by former Miami Marlins skipper Skip Schumaker, who spent the 2025 season as a senior advisor to Texas president of baseball operations Chris Young.</p><p>Now <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/texas-rangers/rangers-news-skip-schumaker-manager-hire-perfect-decision">that Schumaker is in place,</a> Young and the Texas front office need to focus on improving the new manager’s roster. Most of the Rangers’ free agent class is pitchers, as the team could <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/free-agents/_/year/2026/team/tex/level/mlb" rel="noopener">lose multiple starters and relievers.</a> Four starters, including trade deadline pickup Merrill Kelly, will hit the market this winter. Meanwhile, incumbent closer Shawn Armstrong leads the host of relievers.</p><p>The lone notable potential free agent hitter is designated hitter Joc Pederson, yet it will be easier for Young to replace him in the lineup. The Rangers have a host of veterans who could serve in the role on their off days, not to mention other options in their system. Not to mention the host of free agents that will be available. Replacing Kelly should be the priority. In their bid to do so, there’s one free agent that Texas needs to consider above the rest. That starter? None other than <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/houston-astros/why-framber-valdez-astros-future-will-be-determined-in-october">left-hander Framber Valdez.</a></p><h2><b>Framber Valdez would provide a big boost to the Rangers’ rotation</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Astros-SP-Framber-Valdez.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>At the moment, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/mlb-stories/rangers-finalize-merrill-kelly-trade-with-diamondbacks">Rangers are slated to lose</a> Kelly and three other veteran starters: Jon Gray, Tyler Mahle, and Patrick Corbin. While their rotation will return veteran ace Jacob deGrom and rookie Jack Leiter, the staff also dealt with injury issues. Cody Bradford underwent Tommy John surgery, so he likely won’t be back until late 2026, if not 2027. Meanwhile, Nathan Eovaldi will be coming off a rotator cuff injury.</p><p>So, with deGrom, Leiter, and Eovaldi returning, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/texas-rangers/rangers-biggest-disappointment-after-missing-mlb-playoffs">Rangers will need to fill</a> two slots in their rotation. Other than Valdez, the starting pitching market this winter is filled with mostly older veterans. While arms like Dylan Cease, Ranger Suarez, and Zac Gallen would also certainly interest Texas, it’s fair to guess that the Rangers wouldn’t be able to afford both Valdez and one of free agency’s other top arms. Reuniting with Mahle could be another option as well.</p><p>However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/houston-astros/astros-rumors-houston-probably-wont-re-sign-framber-valdez-writer-says">Valdez should be the apple</a> of the Rangers’ eyes. The left-hander will be 32 in November, but he would immediately slot in at the top of the Rangers’ rotation alongside deGrom and a healthy Eovaldi. Bringing him aboard, plus another potential veteran (Jordan Montgomery on a cheap flyer, perhaps?), would allow Leiter to grow as the fourth or fifth starter. While it would be expensive to ink Valdez, the former World Series champion should be a top priority for Young, Schumaker, and the Texas brass. Will the 2023 world champions go all in to get back to the postseason? In the end, the result was never in doubt.</p><p>The Rangers have officially named Schumaker as their new manager, <a href="https://x.com/Rangers/status/1974274551866425484" rel="noopener">they announced on Friday night</a>. Schumaker returns to the dugout for the first time since 2024. He spent two seasons at the helm of the Miami Marlins before joining the Rangers front office before the 2025 MLB season.</p><p>Schumaker’s time in Miami also brought some success. In 2023, he was the National League Manager of the Year after helping Miami win 84 games while earning a postseason spot. In 2024, however, the Marlins fell back to Earth, missing the postseason entirely.</p><h2><b>Rangers have stagnated since winning World Series</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Bruce-Bochy-.jpg"><figcaption>Troy Taormina-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While Shumaker was leading the Marlins, the Rangers were on top of the baseball world. In Bochy’s first season with the team, Texas went on to win its first World Series title. They defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks that season in five games.</p><p>Unfortunately, the team has stagnated since that championship victory. And the offense, specifically, has been a major issue. Texas owned the second-best team batting average, scored the third-most runs, and collected the second-most hits in MLB in 2023, according to ESPN.</p><p>Fast forward to 2025, and the offense has dropped off significantly. Texas collected the sixth-fewest hits, owned the fifth-worst batting average, and scored the ninth-fewest amount of runs this past season.</p><p>Schumaker is tasked with returning Texas to its previous state of contention. It won’t be an easy task to complete. However, he has shown the ability to get the best out of his players. However, president of baseball operations Chris Young doesn’t expect the Rangers to be held out of October baseball for much longer.</p><p>There are sure to be plenty of changes across the organization. One big move has already been made with manager <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/texas-rangers/rangers-news-bruce-bochy-steps-down-manager">Bruce Bochy not returning in 2026</a>. But for Young, <a href="https://x.com/JaredSandler/status/1974130119737553320" rel="noopener">the goal is simple</a>. He kept Texas’ plans blunt when addressing the media, via team reporter Jared Sandler.</p><p>“Our expectation is to win,” Young said.</p><p>On the surface, they may seem like a simple task. But alongside finding a new manager, the Rangers <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/bruce-bochy-rangers-agree-to-end-managerial-tenure" rel="noopener">plan on decreasing their payroll</a> in 2026, via Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. Texas <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll" rel="noopener">currently ranks 13th in payroll</a>, spending just over $226 million, via Spotrac. If the Rangers are serious about cutting back, they’ll be trusting a number of their prospect’s ability to step up.</p><p>In terms of their own free agents, Patrick Corbin, Tyler Mahle and Merrill Kelly are all set to hit free agency. While Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi are firmly at the top of the rotation, Texas will likely need to at least one more arm.</p><p>The bigger problem for the Rangers though is their offense. Texas ranked 22nd overall with 684 runs scored. They dealt with plenty of clear injuries across their lineup. However, it’s clear they could use another spark. That’ll be difficult to find if the Rangers aren’t going to splurge on a big name free agent.</p><p>Still, Young is confident in what the Rangers have to offer. It wasn’t long ago that they were World Series champions. After former manager Bruce Bochy opted to leave the organization, one man has stood above everyone at the top of Rangers president of baseball ops Chris Young’s wish list. That man? Former Miami Marlins skipper Skip Schumaker, one of his current senior advisors. According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale via X, formerly Twitter, <a href="https://x.com/BNightengale/status/1974150757101515113" rel="noopener">Texas is expected to name</a> Schumaker as their next manager.</p><p>“The Texas Rangers haven’t officially named Skip Schumaker their next manager, but with no external candidates currently being considered, the job will be his,” reported Nightengale.</p><p>Following a playing career, mostly with the St. Louis Cardinals, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/texas-rangers/rangers-rumors-the-heavy-favorite-to-be-next-texas-manager-after-bruce-bochy-departure">Schumaker got into coaching.</a> Stints with the Cardinals and San Diego Padres helped him get the managing gig in Miami. His two years there were night and day. In 2023, Schumaker won NL Manager of the Year for his role in helping lead the Marlins back to the playoffs. However, 2024 wasn’t as kind to him. The team finished last in the NL East, and Schumaker left the team with a couple of games remaining in the season due to a family emergency. That led to his dismissal. He then spent 2025 as a senior advisor to Young. However, the Rangers have missed the postseason in the last two seasons. With his contract expiring, Texas President of Baseball Operations Chris Young decided to make a change.</p><p>Now, the focus is certainly on finding his replacement as quickly as possible. While there are plenty of coaches out there that would love the chance to manage the Rangers, Young’s list is likely shorter than many think. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/texas-rangers/rangers-news-bruce-bochy-mum-about-future-2025-season-winds-down">Bochy’s replacement could already be</a> in the organization. His bench coach, Luis Urueta, is highly regarded by the roster and others throughout the league. There are plenty of veteran managers who would like another crack at the job. The roster Young has assembled in Texas does have its flaws, but ownership has shown a willingness to spend in the past. Furthermore, Young isn’t afraid to make deals when needed.</p><p>However, there’s one candidate that fits both checkmarks. He’s already a part of the organization. Second, he was a former National League Manager of the Year. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/atlanta-braves/mlb-rumors-skip-schumaker-emerges-candidate-braves-rangers-head-coach-gigs">That candidate? Skip Schumaker,</a> the current senior advisor to Young. Schumaker opted to leave the Miami Marlins after the 2024 season and has been with the Rangers since then. His first season in Miami was a success, as he led the team to an NL Wild Card spot and an 84-78 record. Although they lost in the NL Wild Card round to another NL East squad, the Philadelphia Phillies, Schumaker also won the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skip_Schumaker#Miami_Marlins" rel="noopener">NL Manager of the Year.</a> It looked like the Marlins were on the upswing.</p><p>However, 2024 instead provided a tumble down the standings. Schumaker left the team with a couple of games remaining at the end of the season due to a family emergency. Afterwards, he let the players know that he would be leaving the organization. Weeks later, the Rangers hired him. Over the past year, he’s served as the special advisor to Young. Many regard <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/texas-rangers/rangers-rumors-the-heavy-favorite-to-be-next-texas-manager-after-bruce-bochy-departure">Schumaker as a heavy favorite,</a> since he’s close with Young and has managerial experience. Will Schumaker end up with the gig, or will Young be blown away by another candidate?</p><h2><b>Would Rangers take a chance on Luis Urueta?</b></h2><p>Urueta would be an intriguing choice. While he’s only been a manager for two games, it’s apparent that he’s still respected in the organization and throughout the league. After spending five seasons as a coach with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Urueta was Schumaker’s bench coach with the Marlins. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/miami-marlins/marlins-news-skip-schumaker-leaves-miami-after-death-in-family">When Schumaker left to deal</a> with the family emergency, Urueta managed the Marlins for the final two games of the 2024 season. He went 2-0 in his short stint at the helm.</p><p>Last season, Urueta was the bench coach under Bochy. So, in addition to coaching under Schumaker, he’s also had a firsthand glance at how Bochy ran things. Learning from a likely future Hall of Fame manager would certainly give him insight into how to work best <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/texas-rangers/rangers-news-corey-seager-marcus-semien-season-ending-updates-bruce-bochy">with the Rangers’ current roster.</a> There are multiple veteran stars, such as shortstop Corey Seager and starting pitcher Jacob deGrom, who will be hungry to chase another World Series title. Can Urueta provide a different spark from a veteran manager like Schumaker? However, it’s certainly possible that Young will want an experienced option from outside the organization, much like he did with Bochy.</p><p>There are many out-of-work managers out there who could work with this veteran-laden roster. Out of the group of managers fired this season, it feels as if <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/pittsburgh-pirates/pirates-news-pittsburgh-fires-derek-shelton-after-12-26-start">ex-Pittsburgh Pirates skipper Derek Shelton</a> could be a good fit. He spent almost five and a half years at the helm in PNC Park. Their World Series triumph in 2023 continues to look more and more like a fluke with each passing year, and manager Bruce Bochy, the team’s shot-caller during their championship year, will not be returning to manage the team after the two decided to part ways after his contract expired.</p><p>Bochy tried his best with the talent the Rangers had at their disposal, but they simply could not overcome underperformances from those who played a huge part in their World Series-winning roster. Nonetheless, the Rangers brass believe that they have the talent to compete for another championship and that another voice in the locker room was needed to get the best out of this team from here on out.</p><p>And it looks like the Rangers already have a replacement for Bochy in mind. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, former MLB player Skip Schumaker, who served as senior adviser for the Rangers starting this season, is the <a href="https://x.com/BNightengale/status/1972841937200877782" rel="noopener">“heavy, heavy favorite”</a> to be the next manager for the 2023 World Series champion.</p><p>Schumaker has some managerial experience in the past, most notably winning the 2023 NL Manager of the Year award for helping the Miami Marlins win 84 games and clinch a playoff spot. The end of first baseman Pete Alonso’s time with the franchise may have come an end as well.</p><p>Following the end of the regular season, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-pete-alonso-announces-opt-out-contract-enter-free-agency">Alonso announced that he is opting out of his contract</a> and will enter free agency. If his Mets tenure truly is over, he’ll have ended his time in Queens hitting .253 with 264 home runs and 712 RBIs. The first baseman was named an All-Star five times, including his last four seasons in New York.</p><p>On the open market, Alonso <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/pete-alonso-opt-out-free-agency-2025" rel="noopener">should draw widespread interest</a>. Playing all 162 games for a second straight year, he hit .272 with 38 home runs and 126 RBIs. The batting average was a new career-high, and his power will always be Alonso’s calling card.</p><p>The Mets will likely attempt to retain Alonso. He has played his whole career there thus far. Plus, New York didn’t sign Juan Soto to a $765 million contract to not surround him with talent.</p><p>With Steven Cohen as owner, it doesn’t seem like money will be an issue. However, if Alonso decides it’s finally time to depart from the Mets, these three teams make the most sense as free agency landing spots.</p><h2><b>Pete Alonso joins Texas Rangers </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Mets-Pete-Alonso.jpg"><figcaption>Jim Rassol-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>With their 81-81 record, the Texas Rangers were six games out of the final American League Wild Card spot. However, you could hardly blame their pitching staff. Texas ended the year with the best ERA in all of baseball at 3.47.</p><p>On the flip side though, the Rangers ranked 22nd in runs scored with 684. Many of their stars such as Marcus Semien and Corey Seager ended up on the injured list. But bottom line, Texas needs more firepower in their lineup to break into the postseason.</p><p>At first base specifically, the Rangers turned to Jake Burger. He hit .250 with 29 home runs and 76 RBIs the year prior with the Miami Marlins. But in his Texas debut, Burger hit .236 with 16 home runs and 53 RBIs over 103 games.</p><p>Adding Alonso to the mix gives the Rangers a surefire option at the cold corner. If Texas is serious about competing, paying up for a player for the first baseman’s stature could be necessary.</p><h2><b>Arizona Diamondbacks take big swing on Alonso</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Alonso-free-agency.jpg"><figcaption>Jim Rassol-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Arizona Diamondbacks made the surprise signing of the 2024 offseason, agreeing to terms on a $210 million contract with star pitcher Corbin Burnes. Perhaps that’ll take them out of the running for Alonso, especially with Burnes recovering from Tommy John surgery.</p><p>Alongside their ace, Arizona also saw players such as Justin Martinez, AJ Puk and Lourdes Gurriel go down to injury. They traded away players such as Josh Naylor, Eugenio Suarez and Merrill Kelly at the deadline. But despite all of their subtractions, the Diamondbacks finished the year just three games out of the final National League Wild Card spot with their 80-82 record.</p><p>The franchise will need to make a crucial decision facing so many injuries. But they know that competing in the NL West is always going to be a difficult challenge. If they want to battle with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, they’ll need another bat.</p><p>Alonso would become Naylor’s full-time replacement at first and the cornerstone of Arizona’s lineup.
