The Tampa Bay Rays continue to make moves to try to get back to the American League’s elite this offseason after a disappointing 2024 campaign that saw them miss the playoffs for the first time since 2018. An injury to Shane McClanahan and the Wander Franco fiasco took two very important pieces away from the team, and the Rays didn’t have enough bats in the end to compete with the best of the best.
#Rays are signing Eloy Jimenez, former #WhiteSox and (briefly) #Orioles DH and occasional OF, to a minor league deal. Only 28, coming off rough ‘24 season. Had 18 HRs in ‘23. First reported by @JesseRogersESPN.
Eloy Jimenez, who was coming off a 6-year, $43 million contract with the Chicago White Sox, now will earn just $2 million if he makes the Tampa Bay Rays’ opening-day roster with $2 million in bonuses if he has 500 plate appearances, per @hgomez27
