The Toronto Blue Jays lost out on Juan Soto this offseason. They threw their hats in the ring, just like they did with Shohei Ohtani, but fell short in 2024 as well. Now, they have to activate a Plan B but have not signed anyone in free agency yet. Vladimir Guerrero Jr needs an extension, as does Bo Bichette, but could either be a trade candidate. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal talks about that and how Alex Bregman fits into the Blue Jays’ plans.
With Manaea and Buehler off the board, a reminder that the Blue Jays have the 23rd ranked projected starting rotation in 2025 (and 5th worst in the American League).
Jays presumably could have got better returns at the deadline by paying full freight for their outgoing guys, so it’s at least good that they got under and won’t incur extra penalties for signing a QO-rejecting FA. Now they’ve just gotta sign one and it won’t have been pointless.
OFFICIAL: We've signed LHP Josh Walker to a one-year contract. Welcome to the #BlueJays!
Additionally, RHP Hagen Danner has been designated for assignment.
