Trae Young will be the engine of the team, and he’s shown over his career that he can lead a group, regardless of who’s playing. Despite the narratives that may have been created about Young, players <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46701366/nba-atlanta-hawks-trae-young-silence-haters-2025-2026-new-teammates" rel="noopener">know what he brings</a> to the table, including his newest teammate, Nickeil Alexander-Walker.</p><p>Alexander-Walker has played with Anthony Edwards, and narratives have spun about him, too. He thinks Young and Edwards are similar when it comes to their demeanor, but he sees it in a positive light, unlike others.</p><p>“Ant has a very strong personality,” Alexander-Walker said via ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk. “Trae has a strong personality. It just comes out different. And so when guys are very self-confident and aware of who they are, to the untrained eye that could be arrogance. It could be cockiness.</p><p>“Trae has confidence. Ant, Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander], Luka [Doncic] has confidence. … But [Young] still wears a heavy burden of pressure. And he’s had success through his pressure.”</p><p>Young has thrived in different situations since he started his career, and he probably wouldn’t have succeeded without having that confidence.</p><h2><b>Kristaps Porzingis compares Trae Young, Luka Doncic</b></h2><p>Young is known as one of the best playmakers in the league, and he has the stats to back it up. He knows how to get his teammates good looks, and Kristaps Porzingis could thrive in his role with the Hawks. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/dallas-mavericks/mavericks-news-luka-doncic-kristaps-porzingis-game-1-nba-finals">Porzingis has played with another great playmaker</a> before in Luka Doncic, and he’s using that experience as he plays alongside Young.</p><p>“The playmaking, they both have it at the highest of levels,” Porzingis said. “They do some similar stuff, honestly. Their builds are different. But they’re both masterminds at reading the basket, anticipating what’s going to happen, reading the game, anticipating what’s going to happen.</p><p>“That experience [with Doncic in Dallas] is definitely going to help me. Playing with Luka and having those open conversations and open dialogue with Trae about what he likes, where he wants to get the ball, and how I can make his life easier.”</p><p>Young is bound to make everyone’s life easier when they’re on the floor with him, and he can also turn things up and get himself going.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He’s focused on quieting his naysayers, which is something OU product Baker Mayfield can relate to. The current season for the Hawks is, in many ways, very important.</p><p>Young believes in the talent he’s surrounded by, which he says can lead to a successful season. Using Mayfield as an example of <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46701366/nba-atlanta-hawks-trae-young-silence-haters-2025-2026-new-teammates" rel="noopener">shutting up the doubters</a>, he said, per ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk.</p><p>“You see it playing right now with another OU guy with Baker Mayfield and what winning does for somebody,” Young said of the quarterback who has changed the public’s perception of himself by guiding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to consecutive playoff appearances since 2024 and a 6-2 record this season. “I get chills talking about it. I know what I can do or what the image of me looks like once I just win.</p><p>“Win again.”</p><p>It’s been five years since the Hawks’ last deep playoff run, Young’s first, and he’s itching to do it again this season, surrounded by an experienced and young group of teammates, such as a 2024 NBA champion Kristaps Porzingis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who’s coming off of back-to-back appearances in the Western Conference Finals, and a fifth-year forward who could average 20.0 points per game this season in Jalen Williams.</p><p>“I’m willing to give up the ball,” Young said. “It’s just you have to have the guys that are out there that want the ball first to make a play, and two, that can draw certain attention when they do get the ball.</p><p>“I feel like we got that now.”</p><p>As many described Mayfield, “a hothead,” before finding success in the NFL, Young feels he can relate to the false narratives.</p><h2><b>Quin Snyder on Trae Young, Hawks’ upcoming season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Hawks-All-Star-Trae-Young-i.jpg"><figcaption>Dale Zanine-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Head coach Quin Snyder believes that if Hawks All-Star Trae Young can find consistency on both ends of the floor, the Hawks will succeed at a high level. Snyder knows Young is one of the best passers in the NBA and will find a way to fit alongside this year’s talented roster.</p><p>“The keyword for Trae is efficiency,” Snyder said. “I think what you are going to see is Trae having to feel the game in a way. … There’s games that’s going to mean scoring more. There’s games where he will be passing more. The constants will be him forcing pace, not just pushing the ball off the dribble but passing ahead. I’m not worried about it,” Young told ESPN when asked about entering the season without an extension. “As much as I wish it was, it’s not all in my hands, and I can’t control everything. I just can only control the present. And I know if we win, everybody eats … I understand what winning can do.</p><p>“If certain things don’t go my way as far as injuries, health, and stuff that I can’t control, that may be the man above telling me there’s another plan for me. I’m focused on making sure all my guys, Quin [Snyder] included, get taken care of and succeed.”</p><p>Winning remains Young’s primary focus. After Atlanta missed the playoffs last season, Trae sees a path for the Hawks to reach the upper echelon in this season’s open Eastern Conference. At the same time, they haven’t been very healthy the past two games, and it’s been to three starters on the team: Kristaps Porzingis, Jalen Johnson, and Zaccharie Risacher.</p><p>With a four-game road trip on the horizon, many are wondering if they will get the three back in the lineup as they’re <a href="https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/referee/injury/Injury-Report_2025-10-27_10AM.pdf" rel="noopener">still on the injury report</a>. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/hawks-news-kristaps-porzingis-jalen-johnson-injury-report-thunder">Porzingis is dealing with flu-like symptoms</a>, while Johnson and Risacher have right ankle sprains. Those three are big for what the Hawks are trying to accomplish this season, and having them on the court is key.</p><p>Chemistry is also important, and they showed in their season opener that they still need time to gel with each other. If the frontcourt can get back right and play during this road trip, it will go a long way toward what should be an exciting season for the Hawks.</p><h2><b>Kristaps Porzingis, Jalen Johnson’s injury status vs. Bulls</b></h2><p>Porzingis and Johnson are questionable to play against the Bulls, as well as Risacher. All three players have been listed as questionable at some point in the past two games, but are ultimately ruled out near game time. For the time being, the Hawks have started Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Mouhamed Gueye, and Onyeka Okongwu in place of the three. They were able to win a game against the Chicago Bulls, but lost their last game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.</p><p>The Hawks have dealt with injuries to some of their key players over the past few years, specifically Johnson. Last season, he missed the second half of the season after suffering a shoulder injury, and his absence was felt despite the Hawks still being able to win enough games to compete in the Play-In Tournament.</p><p>The Hawks know that if Johnson can stay healthy, they have a good chance at being competitive this season. The same goes for Porzingis, who had battled with injuries the past few years, including an illness late last season, which has been revealed as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, known as POTS.</p><p>It will be a plus for the Hawks if they can get all of their players back sooner rather than later, so they can continue to build as the season goes on.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Meanwhile, two of their top players remain on the injured list.</p><p>Currently, Kristaps Porzingis and Jalen Johnson <a href="https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/referee/injury/Injury-Report_2025-10-25_01PM.pdf" rel="noopener">are listed</a> as questionable before the game, per the NBA Injured List.  Johnson is battling a sprain on his right ankle, whereas Porzingis is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/hawks-news-kristaps-porzingis-mystery-celtics-illness-revealed">coming off a battle with flu-like symptoms</a>.</p><p>The only Hawks player out is Zaccharie Risacher with a right ankle sprain. Atlanta split their first two games of the season and are facing a Thunder team that are off to a 2-0 start.</p><p>On Wednesday, Porzingis scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 138-118 loss to the Toronto Raptors. In that same game, Johnson scored 22 points, dished out eight assists, and grabbed seven rebounds as well.</p><p>Yesterday, Johnson scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 110-107 win over the Orlando Magic. Porzingis didn’t play in that game due to his illness.</p><p>Johnson is coming off a preseason spent <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/hawks-news-jalen-johnson-spotted-working-out-lebron-james">preparing with LeBron James</a> and is looking to top his performance from last season, when he averaged 18.9 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. In March 2024, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/jalen-johnson-ankle-injury-hawks-play-in-tournament-pursuit">Johnson was battling an ankle injury</a>. Eventually, Johnson developed a shoulder injury that required surgery. As a result, his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/hawks-news-jalen-johnson-to-miss-rest-of-season-with-shoulder-injury">2024-2025 season ended in January</a>.</p><p>Meanwhile, Porzingis is beginning his first season with the Hawks after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/hawks-news-atlanta-acquiring-kristaps-porzingis-3-team-trade-celtics-nets">being traded by the Boston Celtics</a>.</p><h2><b>The Hawks’ new frontcourt dynamic</b></h2><p>The addition of Porzingis brings a few assests to the frontcourt. For instance, he and Johnson create space for guys like Tre Young to execute offensively. At the same time, Porzingis and Johnson are not to shabby at shooting the ball themselves with their wide range.</p><p>Furthermore, Porzingis can run the pick-and-roll effectively with the likes of Young. Plus, he can be in good position with an explosive player such as Johnson attacks the basket. In other words, Johnson could provide the quick inside to Porzingis for two points.</p><p>Then, there is their respective heights. Though he struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just one of six attempts, his late-game execution proved too much for Orlando to contain.</p><p>The Magic controlled much of the first half but faltered down the stretch, undone by turnovers and missed free throws in the final minutes. Franz Wagner once again led the team offensively, finishing with 27 points, six rebounds, and two assists while shooting 10-for-17 from the field.</p><p>Paolo Banchero and Desmond Bane, however, struggled to find rhythm. Banchero finished with 11 points on 4-for-15 shooting, including 0-for-5 from three-point range, along with six rebounds and one assist in 36 minutes. Bane added 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals, but shot just 5-for-14 from the field and 1-for-7 from deep across 33 minutes.</p><p>Despite the loss, Orlando saw <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/orlando-magic/magic-news-the-young-forward-continuing-to-earn-franz-wagner-jamahl-mosley-praise">another strong performance from second-year forward Tristan da Silva</a>, who provided energy off the bench with 15 points, six rebounds, and three steals on efficient shooting. He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Atlanta Hawks</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>On Wednesday evening, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/hawks-news-tare-young-honest-season-opener-embarrassing">Atlanta Hawks began</a> their 2025-26 NBA season with a dud by getting blown out at home <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/hawks-news-trae-young-strong-message-blowout-loss-raptors">by the Toronto Raptors.</a> Almost nothing went right for the Hawks, who surrendered relentless drives into the paint by the Raptors and shot poorly from the field throughout the evening.</p><p>As has become a theme throughout his career, point guard Trae Young got off to a rough start to the season, shooting just 5-14 from the field and racking up just five assists.</p><p>One person who was <a href="https://x.com/patbev21/status/1981183829219144032" rel="noopener">reveling in the rough performance</a> is former NBA journeyman Patrick Beverley, currently out of the league, who ignited a feud with Young this offseason for reasons unknown and took to X, formerly Twitter, to celebrate Atlanta’s loss on Wednesday.</p><p>@TheTraeYoung and the @ATLHawks did all that talking, and trollin just to lose by 20 to the Raptors talking about playoffs,” wrote Beverley.</p><p>Beverley won’t get the chance to back up his trash talk on the court against Young, as he currently isn’t on an NBA roster, but he certainly still is making sure to keep the anti-Young agenda rolling as the season gets underway.</p><h2><b>A rough start for the Hawks</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Trae-Young-sends-strong-message-to-team-amid-blowout-loss-to-Raptors.jpg"><figcaption>Brett Davis-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Many viewed the Atlanta Hawks as one of the winners of this offseason after their flurry of moves, including trading for Kristaps Porzingis and signing Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard. From tip-off to the end of the game, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/hawks-news-trae-young-strong-message-blowout-loss-raptors">Hawks were dominated in the paint</a>, in transition, and on the boards. To add on to it, they were never really able to find a rhythm offensively, and it doomed them throughout most of the game.</p><p>Trae Young <a href="https://x.com/_MalikATL/status/1981189948725182715" rel="noopener">was honest</a> about the team’s performance and didn’t have much to look at when it came to positive takeaways from the loss.</p><p>“I don’t think there are too many positives you take from tonight,” Young said after the game. “Obviously, the result was what it was, and it’s embarrassing the way we started it.”</p><p>The Hawks were outscored 86-56 in points in the paint, and 34-11 in fastbreak points. They still look like a team that is trying to figure out how to play with each other with the new pieces they added, and it showed they didn’t play together much prior to this.</p><p>“A lot of it comes from the preseason carryover,” Young said. “We didn’t really play, all 5 of us, and you can tell by the continuity we have out there, and it wasn’t right. That’s part of the NBA: the cream always rises to the top. We got some time to make it up, and we gotta get going.”</p><p>It also didn’t make things better that their best defender, Dyson Daniels, was in foul trouble throughout the game, which had some effect on how the Hawks played on both sides of the ball.</p><p>“Obviously, it’s not just one guy out there that has to guard everybody, but obviously, when Dyson is out there, it’s a big factor for us on defense,” Young said. “It’s frustrating when the refs call in 2 different ways, especially whenever they’re doing the same thing that they call Dyson for.”</p><h2><b>Hawks get outworked by Raptors in season opener</b></h2><p>The one <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/hawks-news-jalen-johnson-drops-half-full-outlook-season">bright spot for the Hawks was Jalen Johnson</a>, who played in his first regular-season game since January of this year. Johnson came out of the gate playing with aggression, and he kept the Hawks afloat for most of the first half. He finished the game with 22 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists, but he also knows that the Hawks need to be better, especially in transition defense.</p><p>“Rotations gotta be better,” Johnson said. “It’s not too much that we have to overthink or anything; it’s simple stuff that we have to clean up. We just gotta be better than we were tonight.”</p><p>“Transition defense is on us. I know coach wants us to crash, but that’s got to be the focus for us,” Young said. “That’s on us, not the coach. We gotta be better as a team and understand that’s what the scouting report is. Teams think they can get a lot of transition points on us, so even when we’re scoring, they’re grabbing the ball and throwing it full court. If we’re missing like we did tonight, they’re able to get out and get in transition.”</p><p>The good news for the Hawks is that it was just Game 1 of an 82-game season. The chemistry will get better, the shots will start falling, and they’ll learn from their mistakes.</p><p>“This is something we gotta learn from. We gotta be better at. If we’d been lost by one, it’d have been the same result,” Young said. “So, regardless of what it is, because it’s a loss in the loss column, we’ve got to be better, and that’s just what it is. But for the four-time All-Star, he knows that they have to be accountable all the time, especially after an embarrassing loss. With the strides that Daniels made last season, it <a href="https://x.com/MadisonHock/status/1980677800878305485" rel="noopener">was a no-brainer</a> for the Hawks to get a deal done with last season’s Most Improved Player.</p><p>Head coach Quin Snyder has seen the growth in Daniels on the floor, but also on the court. As far as his character, Snyder shared some things that make Daniels unique in his own right.</p><p>“I think the competitor stands out when you see him play,” Snyder said. “The things that he does on the court, I think, demonstrate an unselfishness that is unique. He’s got a very even demeanor. But you can also see subtle ways that he supports his teammates.</p><p>“At the risk of being too effusive, there’s a kindness that I think he conducts himself with, and that care about, about his teammates, and when you’re around someone that’s doing those things, that you know truly does put the group above themselves, that’s pretty unique in today’s world that we live in.”</p><p>Being a good human goes a long way, and it’s satisfying to know that Daniels is one of those people. With that, it probably felt more gratifying for the Hawks to sign him long-term.</p><h2><b>Dyson Daniels a part of Hawks’ long-term future</b></h2><p>Daniels is now a part of the long-term future of the Hawks as they continue to grow with the young core they have. Daniel was asked how it felt to be able to get a deal done with the team.</p><p>“It shows that they want me here, and that means a lot to me,” Daniels said. “I want to be here in the city, and I want to compete with this team, and, I’m excited for what this team has coming up and what we’ve got ahead of us. So just to be here, be a part of it, work on the chemistry of the team.  Know that I belong. It feels great, and it’s a weight off the shoulders.”</p><p>The Hawks showed that they wanted Daniels last offseason when they traded for him with the New Orleans Pelicans. He immediately came on the team and made an impact defensively, and finished the season in the race for Defensive Player of the Year. On offense, he continued to grow and make strides, which is a reason why he won Most Improved.</p><p>Coming into this season, the Hawks will want to continue to see his growth, which will make them a much more dangerous team.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
