This one had been coming for a long time as Ball was a popular name that came up around the NBA trade deadline, but Chicago decided not to deal him then. There were reports that the Bulls could’ve received a future first-round pick in a Ball trade, and they instead waited until the end of the season to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/cleveland-cavaliers/cavs-news-acquiring-lonzo-ball-trade-bulls">trade him to the Cleveland Cavaliers for only Isaac Okoro</a>.</p><p>Because of what the Bulls reportedly turned down for Lonzo Ball before the trade deadline, Chicago fans are not happy about this trade. In fact, Bulls fans have been pretty unhappy with just about everything that this team has done in the last few years.</p><p>The Bulls have now traded Ball, Zach LaVine, Alex Caruso and DeMar DeRozan in the last year. They have received zero first-round picks in exchange. Chicago wants to build from the ground up to compile a talented young core, but they aren’t getting any draft picks in these trades. Trades certainly need to happen in order for this team to turn things around, but the Bulls need to be smart about it. They didn’t make very smart moves last offseason, and this offseason isn’t off to a great start.</p><p>There is nothing the Bulls can do now. The trade is in, and Ball is gone. Isaac Okoro is the newest member of the team, so let’s grade this trade:</p><h2><b>Bulls Lonzo Ball trade grade: C+</b></h2><p>You might be wondering why this trade grade isn’t lower after the prior explanation. Well, if you ignore the fact that the Bulls turned down a much better deal for Ball earlier this year, this trade is okay. Now, it can’t be completely ignored, and that decision definitely factors into this trade. However, the trade itself isn’t bad.</p><p>Let’s face it: Lonzo Ball is not the player that he once was. He was a tremendous player before his injury, but going down with something that keeps you sidelined for over two years is not normal. Ball is still a serviceable player and a useful tool, but he doesn’t fit into this Chicago roster as well anymore.</p><p>Isaac Okoro isn’t anything special, but he does fit the mold a little bit better than Ball. He is a few years younger, and the injury concern that is there with Ball isn’t there with Okoro.</p><p>In terms of a direct comparison between these two players, they are very similar in terms of the impact that they will have on their teams. Both players averaged around 20 minutes per game last year, and they both averaged between 6-8 points per game. They are both solid three-point shooters as Ball shot the deep ball at a 34% clip last year, and Okoro shot it at a 37% clip.</p><p>Without the Bulls’ trade deadline blunder, there wouldn’t be a ton to talk about here. It’s a fairly even trade, and you can argue that the Bulls are getting a better fit for what they want to build. However, the fact that the trade deadline blunder happened makes this one much worse for Chicago.</p><p>A Lonzo Ball trade has been brewing for a long time, and it finally happened. Now, who is next? The Bulls are expected to be active in trade conversations this offseason, and there are a lot of other players in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-ayo-dosunmu-coby-white-trade-tre-jones">Chicago that are mentioned in trade rumors.</a> We’ll see if the Bulls can make one that the fan base actually supports.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Bulls clearly liked what they saw from him as they are <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1939821323989274948" rel="noopener">bringing him back</a> on a three-year contract. Jones agreed to a new contract with Chicago right after NBA Free Agency got underway, and his new deal is worth $24 million.</p><p>“Free agent guard Tre Jones has agreed to a three-year, $24 million deal to return to the Chicago Bulls, sources tell ESPN,” Shams Charania said in a post. “Kevin Bradbury of LIFT Sports Management finalized the new deal with Bulls officials tonight.”</p><p>Tre Jones had spent his entire career with the Spurs before he was traded to the Bulls this past season. He was a standout player at Duke during his college days, and the Spurs picked him up in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft. It took Jones a little while to find his footing in the NBA, but he became a serious impact player with the Spurs within a few years.</p><p>Jones wasn’t viewed as a big pickup for the Bulls, but he ended up being a great addition to the team. He only played in 18 games with the team this past season, but he looked like a good fit during that time. In those 18 games, Jones averaged 11.5 points per game, 4.9 assists per game and 3.2 rebounds per game. Jones didn’t shoot the three ball often as he averaged a little over one attempt per game, but he did shoot 50% from deep with the Bulls.</p><p>It was clear very quickly that the Bulls were very interested in bringing Tre Jones back, and they wasted no time. NBA Free Agency officially got underway on Monday evening, and Jones and Chicago agreed to a deal shortly after it began. This is one of many things that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-ayo-dosunmu-coby-white-trade-tre-jones">Bulls have on their offseason checklist</a>, and it has to feel good to get something crossed off. Are more Bulls trades coming? Monday morning before NBA free agency, CHSN’s K.C. Johnson was on 670 The Score in Chicago to <a href="https://x.com/670TheScore/status/1939680642725220667" rel="noopener">discuss the latest</a> on the Bulls’ trade talks. Johnson revealed he’s hearing more about guard Ayo Dosunmu than Coby White.</p><p>“I have not heard Coby White’s name,” Johnson said. “That’s all I can say. That doesn’t mean he’s not going to get traded. … In my conversations with people that I talk to around the league, I’ve heard Ayo Dosunmu’s name way more than Coby White’s name.”</p><p>Johnson went on to say that he does think the Bulls are going to trade another guard after the Ball-for-Okoro deal because they want to re-sign Tre Jones, an unrestricted free agent. Jones played well in Chicago this past season after coming over in the Zach LaVine trade, though an injury ended his season early. There’s also the matter of Josh Giddey getting a new contract, which is a “priority,” making for a crowded backcourt if Jones does indeed return. Veteran Jevon Carter is back in the fold as well after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-jevon-carter-makes-6-8-million-contract-decision-before-free-agency">exercising his player option</a>.</p><p>With all this in mind, it seems as if Dosunmu is the likelier trade option than White, at least based on what Johnson is hearing.</p><p>“I’ve got my antenna up over which guard is going to be moved, and I can just tell you from my conversations I’ve heard Ayo’s name more than Coby’s name,” Johnson continued.</p><h2><b>Ayo Dosunmu vs. Coby White trade</b></h2><p>Both Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White have one season left on their t<a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nba/chicago-bulls/yearly" rel="noopener">hree-year contracts</a>. Dosunmu is set to make $7.5 million, while White is at nearly $13 million. However, after White exploded in the last few months of the 2024-25 season, he’s in line for a substantial raise. Dosunmu, meanwhile, had somewhat of a down year and saw it end early due to injury.</p><p>White likely won’t extend his contract this offseason with the Bulls because he could get way more on the open market as a free agent in 2026. That should be taken into account in these trade talks, along with the question of whether White and Giddey make for a viable long-term starting backcourt. It’s unclear just what Chicago would need to make a White trade, with the assumption being it would require a huge offer. Since the team selected him with the seventh pick of the 2019 NBA Draft, the young guard has made a name for himself as he became the clear-cut first option of the Bulls.</p><p>However, his place with the team seems to be up in the air. He <a href="https://x.com/BullsCentral_/status/1939412616083841409" rel="noopener">uploaded a story post</a> on his Instagram page on Sunday, showing a photo of him interacting with Bulls fans after a game. He shot 45.3% from the field, including 37% from beyond the arc, and 90.2% from the free-throw line.</p><p>White has been in his element sinc the Bulls made the decision to break up their playoff core of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso, and Lonzo Ball. While Nikola Vucevic remains on the team, his future is also up in the air as Chicago could fully commit to a rebuild.</p><p>Despite the many changes to the roster, White has been reslient. He’s gained chemistry with Vucevic, Josh Giddey, Ayo Dosunmu, and Patrick Williams among others as the Bulls continue to be in the playoff picture.</p><p>However, Chicago hasn’t been able to return to the playoffs after their cameo in 2022. They’ve fallen short in the play-in tournament for the last three editions. If that does end up happening, the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers could be a pair of potential landing spots for him.</p><p>Simons has turned himself into a solid scorer early in his career, as he is fresh off averaging 19.3 points on 42.6% shooting for the Trail Blazers last season. While Boston has <a href="https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2025/06/what-dodging-second-apron-means-for-boston-celtics-trade-possibilities.html" rel="noopener">gotten under the second apron</a> of the salary cap, they still have work to do to avoid the first apron, which is why a trade involving Simons is on the table. If they do want to move him, it seems like the Bulls could be the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/siegels-scoop-latest-warriors-jonathan-kuminga-nba-free-agency-intel">most sensible destination for him</a>.</p><p>“After trading Lonzo Ball on Saturday and continuing to field calls about Coby White, the Chicago Bulls may need a new guard next to Josh Giddey, who the team intends to re-sign in free agency,” Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints wrote. “The Bulls like to play fast and shoot a lot of threes, which would fit Simons’ style of play perfectly.”</p><p>“More importantly, from Boston’s point of view, Nikola Vucevic is a veteran big man who would make a lot of sense as a one-year replacement for Porzingis. Such a swap would immediately move the Celtics out of the first apron and give them a key veteran at center. Of course, the Bulls aren’t the only potential suitor for Simons, as the Clippers were also floated as a potential trade partner, although there are a couple of different issues they are dealing with that could make a deal more difficult to pull off.</p><p>“Another team worth mentioning regarding Simons, if the Celtics were to relocate him again, is the Los Angeles Clippers,” Siegel said. “Simons is a player LA has been linked to previously in trade rumors, but the Clippers have their own problems to sort through with Norman Powell in the final year of his contract and James Harden potentially opting out to demand more money in free agency.”</p><p>Even though the Celtics have already swung a pair of big trades this offseason, it seems like their work is only just getting started. Johnson spoke with NBA scouts about Essengue leading up to the draft. Siakam took multiple years to develop before blossoming into a star in Indiana. So, in order to leave this middleground area, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/lakers-news-la-makes-2nd-round-draft-trade-bulls-jump-10-spots">Chicago needs to make some trades.</a></p><p>There have been a lot of trade rumors surrounding the Bulls lately, and that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-marc-eversley-patience-take-after-noa-essengue-nba-draft-pick">makes GM Marc Eversley’s comments</a> on Thursday morning even more puzzling. Eversley discussed the team’s offseason plans, and he <a href="https://x.com/Schuster_Elias/status/1938243849387970806" rel="noopener">listed off players</a> that are “coming back” to the team. Nikola Vucevic, who is an obvious trade candidate, is one of the players that Eversley listed.</p><p>“I would look at how we end the season this past year, 15-5 down the stretch,” Eversley said, according to a post from Elias Schuster. “Obviously, a bitter loss in the Play-In game. But the players who played in that game, Giddey, White, Huerter, Matas, Vooch [Nikola Vucevic], those guys all logged big minutes. Those guys are all coming back. They’re all going to be with us. Now, we layer in guys like Patrick Williams, Jalen Smith, Ayo Dosunmu is coming back from injury, Zach Collins as nice addition at the trade deadline.”</p><p>That definitely isn’t what Bulls fans were expecting to hear the day after the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft. The Bulls are expected to make multiple trades this offseason, and guys like Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu and Nikola Vucevic have all been named as likely suitors. At the very least, it would be very surprising to see Vucevic in a Bulls uniform next year. However, you never know what this front office is going to do.</p><p>Chicago did end up engaging in a trade on Thursday, but there weren’t any players involved. The Bulls were originally in possession of the 45th overall pick, and they traded it to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for the 55th overall pick and cash. There is a chance that the Bulls make another trade as Marc Eversley noted on Wednesday that team might trade out of the second round entirely. If they do keep the 55th pick, look for Chicago to go the draft-and-stash route.
