The win was powered by dynamic performances from Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. Jokic, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/10-greatest-nuggets-in-franchise-history-ranked">the three-time MVP</a>, made history alongside Russell Westbrook and Oscar Robertson, becoming only the third player in NBA history to post triple-doubles in each of his first three games of a season. He would end the night with 25 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 assists.</p><p>Murray continued his hot start to the season. He <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore/_/gameId/401809246" rel="noopener">erupted for 43 points</a> on 16 of 29 shooting, as well as five three-pointers.</p><p>Outside of Jokic and Murray, a good portion of the Nuggets’ roster also contributed. One of the biggest knocks against the Nuggets in recent years was their heavy reliance on starters. Their bench would provide little to no contribution. But Denver took the time to retool their roster in the offseason and signed players like Jonas Valanciunas, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Bruce Brown. They would also acquire Cameron Johnson via trade.</p><p>“We have a different option, different lineups. We respect each other, and if somebody has it going, we get them the ball,” Jokic said following the win. “We have so much action and movement, we have so many weapons, and we are using all of them as we get used to them.”</p><h2><b>Jamal Murray continues his hot start to the season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Jamal-Murray-answers-questions-during-an-interview-after-a-game.jpg"><figcaption>Bruce Kluckhohn-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The partnership between Jokic and Murray has been the foundation of Denver’s success for years. Their chemistry was on full display Monday. With both stars starting their seasons hot, it is an early sign of what could be a very successful season for the Nuggets.</p><p>“He came ready to training camp, and he’s healthy,” Jokic said regarding Murray. “He’s in shape. It’s a product of the good work he did this summer, and we know what he can do when he’s shooting the ball. He was really good for us, the reason why we won the game.”</p><p>Murray and the Nuggets are looking to build on their early successes. However, they’re also working to improve their chemistry with their new teammates.</p><p>“It means a lot (to beat them.) It’s still early,” Murray said on beating the Timberwolves. “They’re not going to take this too hard as well. Reporters asked if Jovic had any sense of relief when Jonas Valanciunas came onto the court.</p><p>“I never relax and breathe easy, my friend… Thomas Shelby said there is no rest for me in this world,” Jokic told reporters with a smile, <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1oggfbg/jokic_asked_if_he_can_relax_and_breathe_easy_when/">referencing</a> the main character from Peaky Blinders.</p><p>This is not the first time that Jokic has referenced the British drama. You play 10 minutes and whatever you do, it’s not good enough compared to when Jokic does it. That was the hardest part. First, Denver squandered a 50-point masterpiece<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-aaron-gordon-drops-bar-after-dunk-year-submission"> from Aaron Gordon</a> in their season-opening road loss to the Golden State Warriors, before bouncing back with a comfortable home win over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday.</p><p>Minutes have been hard to come by for wing Peyton Watson, now in his fourth year in the NBA. Watson and the Nuggets were unable to come to an agreement on an extension this summer, opening the door for him to become a free agent next summer, but the young defensive wing <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/2025/10/26/peyton-watson-nuggets-extension-talks/" rel="noopener">isn’t taking anything personally.</a></p><p>“From what I understand, it was just a financial business decision (for the Nuggets). Obviously, with the new CBA and the second apron, things of that nature, they wanted to stay out of that,” Watson said, per Bennett Durando of the Denver Post, via Hoopshype. “As a business, you’ve gotta operate (based on) what’s best for your business. And when it comes time for me to make my decision next summer, I’ve gotta operate as a business myself.”</p><p>“That’s no diss to the Nuggets. That’s no diss to the Kroenkes. They’ve showed me a lot of love, a lot of hospitality, and they’ve done a lot for me. They gave me a chance in this league, to prove that I’m gonna be here for a while. It was an incredibly efficient night from the San Jose native. After the game, Gordon was asked about his career game, and <a href="https://x.com/NickFriedell/status/1981605161597387016" rel="noopener">he shouted out to the DJ for helping put him in the zone</a>.</p><p>“The DJ was playing slaps. So I’m vibing the whole game. He’s playing just the straight Bay that I grew up with. Just like Hyphy music. So I was just out getting Hyphy.”</p><p>The Warriors also noticed the game. Despite an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-aaron-gordon-breaks-alex-english-record-with-nuclear-season-opener">otherworldly game from Aaron Gordon</a>, who scored 50 points and made 10 of his 11 3-pointers, it wasn’t enough.</p><p>While Gordon made 10 of his 3-pointers, Nikola Jokic missed 11 of his, going 2-for-13 in the game. Despite the misses, Jokic didn’t seem worried after the game. Instead, <a href="https://x.com/BennettDurando/status/1981600998847373628" rel="noopener">he seemed satisfied</a> with the misses, and there’s a good chance that he’ll take those shots again.</p><p>“I think I need to mix it up,” Jokic said via Bennett Durando of the Denver Post. “I’m happy with the 3-point (looks). I think I was open. Most of them seemed like they were going in but they didn’t. So I mean, I’m happy with the shots.”</p><p>Even with the misses, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-nikola-jokic-ties-oscar-robertson-triple-double-record">Jokic finished the night with a triple-double</a>, recording 21 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists. One thing about Jokic, he’s always going to find a way to improve in the next game, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ended up making half of his 3-pointers coming up.</p><p>For now, the Nuggets have to roll with the punches and get a win in their next game against the Phoenix Suns.</p><h2><b>Nuggets lose tight game to Warriors in overtime</b></h2><p>The Nuggets had control of the game for most of the first half, but the Warriors started to pick things up late in the third quarter. The Nuggets were still able to stay poised and had the lead at times, but it was a back-and-forth matchup down the stretch of the fourth quarter. Gordon hit a 3-pointer late in the quarter, but Curry answered back with his own, sending the game into overtime.</p><p>After the game, Gordon talked about the missed opportunity to win the game despite his big night.</p><p>“It sucks,” Gordon said. “They’re asking if I wanted the game ball, and no, I don’t want the game ball to take an L home with me. No thank you. So it sucks. But it’s one game. If it weren’t for a hamstring strain that slowed him down in Game 7 of their second-round playoff clash against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Nuggets may have gotten past that hump. But now, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-aaron-gordon-reveals-top-focus-for-2025-26-nba-season">Nuggets’ roster is more stacked</a>, and Gordon, during Media Day, made it clear that he’d be focusing on the defensive end of the court.</p><p>But for the Nuggets’ season-opening game against the Golden State Warriors, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-aaron-gordon-50-point-game-unmatched-nba-history">Gordon decided that he’d cosplay as Stephen Curry</a> for the day. Gordon, who’s earned the nickname “Mr. Nugget”, finished with a career-high 50 points after making 10 triples, including eight consecutive at one point. Alas, it wasn’t enough as the Nuggets took a 137-131 loss at the hands of the still-unbeaten Dubs.</p><p>In the process of doing so, Gordon <a href="https://x.com/TroyRenck/status/1981581830345342992" rel="noopener">has now scored</a> the most points of any player in Nuggets history in a season-opener, breaking the record that Alex English set (47 points) nearly 40 years ago (October 25, 1985), according to Troy Renck of The Denver Post.</p><p>Gordon also drained a triple that could have given the Nuggets the win at the end of regulation had it not been for the actual Curry clapping back towards the end of regulation and in overtime en route to a 137-131 loss for Denver. He is continuing his incredible shooting pace that began last season, when he jumped from a low-30s shooter from deep (in terms of percentage) all the way to 43.6 percent.</p><p>The 30-year-old forward has embraced his role as a superstar supporting player, and the Nuggets have to be thanking their lucky stars that he’s still a part of this roster that has championship ambitions.</p><h2>Nikola Jokic, Nuggets run out of steam in OT</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Nikola-Jokic_006976.jpg"><figcaption>Bob Kupbens-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Jokic had a triple-double (21 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists) and was a star for the Nuggets on the night. However, he couldn’t make his threes when it mattered. Jokic did miss a few treys in crunch time, which was in stark contrast to how the Warriors seemed to make every single triple when it mattered. Curry hit a three to start overtime, which was then followed up by triples from Al Horford and Jimmy Butler, essentially putting the game out of Denver’s reach.</p><p>Jokic will be better as the season progresses. At one point during the Denver Nuggets’ eventual 137-131 loss to the Golden State Warriors in overtime, Gordon made eight straight three-pointers. He was proving that the incredible three-point shooting development that he showed last season was no fluke, and no one is ever going to doubt him now after he finished with a total of 10 treys in a career-best, 50-point performance despite the defeat.</p><p>But in a bit of a funny coincidence, the last time any player made at least 10 triples in their first game of the season was back on the 23rd of December in 2020, when Terry Rozier, the recent FBI arrestee, made 10 long balls to open the 2020-21 campaign for the Charlotte Hornets. No one in NBA history has made more triples in a season-opening game than Gordon and Rozier.</p><p>This nugget of information was pointed out <a href="https://twitter.com/WorldWideWob/status/1981589948672479323" rel="noopener">rather hilariously</a> by the Inside the NBA crew following the Nuggets’ Thursday night defeat.</p><p>“This falls in the category of, ‘You can’t just make that stuff up.’ Aaron Gordon has made 10 three-pointers tonight, tying Terry Rozier in 2020 for most in a season-opener in NBA history. Rozier, whose career has fallen off the cliff over the past year or so, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/what-we-know-about-terry-rozier-chauncey-billups-fbi-investigations">was recently arrested by the FBI</a> for allegedly providing insider information leading to a $200,000 windfall that was, according to reports, counted and collected in his house.</p><p>The Nuggets forward’s incredible game should not be forgotten anytime soon, but it is in grave danger of falling by the headline wayside considering how hot the topic of Rozier’s (and Chauncey Billups’) arrests has been.</p><h2>It is not safe to bet on Aaron Gordon making 10 3s for the Nuggets ever again</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Fans-in-disbelief-of-Aaron-Gordon-unconscious-3-point-shooting-vs.-Warriors.jpg"><figcaption>Bob Kupbens-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Gordon became a 43.6 percent three-point shooter for the Nuggets last season on 3.4 attempts per contest. His previous career-high in three-point percentage over a whole season was 34.9.</p><p>While Gordon did improve massively as a three-point shooter, no one should expect him to make this many threes ever again. In fact, for his career, he’s made <a href="https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/aaron-gordon-career-high-3s" rel="noopener">more than five threes</a> in a game just five times in his career (in 721 games).</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
