He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Detroit Pistons</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>One of the bigger storylines of this NBA offseason has been the federal probe <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-rumors-malik-beasley-still-be-charged-crime-gambling-investigation">into Detroit Pistons guard</a> Malik Beasley, who saw his free agency sweepstakes halted before it even began when he was announced as the main subject of a gambling investigation. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/nba-rumors-malik-beasley-teases-free-agency-decision-near">Beasley has since</a> been cleared as the main target of the investigation and has generated plenty of interest from teams in need of outside shooting, but that doesn’t mean he is fully out of the woods just yet.</p><p>Recently, David Purdum of ESPN.com <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46215307/nba-investigating-free-agent-malik-beasley-gambling" rel="noopener">reported on how</a> the NBA is still not through with their own look into Beasley.</p><p>“The NBA is conducting its own investigation into gambling allegations against Malik Beasley, the free-agent guard linked to a federal probe this offseason, the league confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday,” reported Purdum. “The investigation stems from allegations of improper gambling on NBA games and prop bets from the 2023-24 season when Beasley was with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to sources familiar with the matter.”</p><p>At this point, it’s unclear what exactly the NBA is investigating that is different than what the feds already looked through during their own investigation.</p><h2><b>A potentially big development</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Pistons-forward-Malik-Beasley1.jpg"><figcaption>Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>As previously mentioned, once Beasley’s name was cleared by the federal investigation, teams once again began their pursuit of his services in free agency as the NBA season draws near.</p><p>Beasley himself even recently stated on his Instagram account that a decision was near.</p><p>However, this NBA investigation could throw a wrench in things if anything new is uncovered. The original probe stemmed from Beasley’s time with the Bucks, specifically a January 2024 game between the Bucks and Portland Trail Blazers when there was a surge of bets on Beasley’s rebounding statistics for that game shortly before tip-off.</p><p>For their part, the Detroit Pistons seem to have already begun preparing for life without their best three-point shooter by going out and signing both Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson in free agency this year.</p><p>In any case, the Pistons are set to kick off their 2025-26 NBA season with a road game against the Chicago Bulls on October 22.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Detroit Pistons</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The biggest storyline of the offseason <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/nba-rumors-knicks-cavs-named-malik-beasley-suitors">for the Detroit Pistons</a> has been the contract saga of Malik Beasley, who remains a free agent with just six weeks to go until the new season kicks off. The reason for this was the federal investigation announced earlier this summer into <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-rumors-mailk-beasley-ready-sign-42-million-contract-before-gambling-probe">Beasley’s alleged involvement</a> in illegal gambling activities pertaining to the NBA; however, Beasley has since been cleared as the target of that probe, allowing him to re-engage with teams on potentially signing with them.</p><p>While the Pistons surely would love to bring back their leading three-point shooter from a year ago, there are also plenty of other interested parties around the league, and recently, Beasley took to his account on Instagram to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DOV-0DuiN2r/" rel="noopener">relay a message</a> as his decision nears.</p><p>“step into my world. where we dont listen to the outside noise… here we don’t quit.. where we live to the fullest.. not given af about anything that’s not important to us… year 10 is approaching.. probably the most interesting one of them all.. and the goal remains the same .. be better than last year… my decision is near.”</p><p>Beasley has frequently posted videos of himself on social media this year documenting how he has been staying in shape amid the investigation, and is sure to be able to pick up right where he left off a season ago (well, before the playoff series against the New York Knicks at least).</p><h2><b>A key piece for the Pistons</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Pistons-Malik-Beasley.jpg"><figcaption>Sam Navarro-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Detroit Pistons have already gone out and added some wing talent this offseason in the event that Beasley was not able to return to the franchise, signing free agents Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson to give them some more wing shooting and playmaking.</p><p>However, neither of those two players came close to matching the elite three-point production that Beasley had for Detroit last year, setting a franchise record for most shots made from beyond the arc in a single season and playing a huge role in Detroit tripling its win total from the previous year.</p><p>Detroit is set to open up its 2025 season on the road against the Chicago Bulls on October 22.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Be sure to follow him on Twitter @BrettSiegelNBA.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Detroit Pistons</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Malik Beasley has been making headlines this offseason for reasons outside of signing a new contract or playing basketball.</p><p>After recently seeing <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-rumors-malik-beasley-still-be-charged-crime-gambling-investigation">his name cleared from being a target in a federal gambling investigatio</a>n, the recent Detroit Pistons sharpshooter has settled a dispute resulting in him being evicted from his downtown apartment in Detroit.</p><p>Beasley was evicted from The Stott in downtown Detroit in early August after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-malik-beasley-sued-evicted-after-failing-to-pay-rent-in-detroit">two lawsuits were filed against him</a> for a total of $21,500 in unpaid rent.</p><p>This dispute between Beasley and The Stott has since been <a href="https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nba/pistons/2025/09/03/malik-beasley-back-in-detroit-repairing-finances-amid-nba-gambling-probe/85952199007/?gnt-cfr=1&amp;gca-cat=p&amp;gca-uir=false&amp;gca-epti=z11xx35p119850c119850u116235e005100v11xx35&amp;gca-ft=16&amp;gca-ds=sophi" rel="noopener">settled</a>, as the nine-year NBA veteran paid $38,000 in delinquent rent and moved back into his apartment, according to The Detroit News.</p><p>Along with settling the eviction case, this payment from Beasley puts him back in good standing with his apartment complex.</p><p>“Malik loves Detroit, has family in the city and does not want to close the door on a possible reunion,” Steve Haney, Beasley’s lawyer, wrote in a text message to The Detroit News. “He was a great Piston and he loves the city of Detroit.”</p><p>The Pistons have not commented on Beasley’s housing situation, nor the gambling investigation he has been involved in.</p><p>Although Beasley’s name was cleared as a target in this investigation, he is still a subject. As a result, his conduct is still within the scope of the grand jury’s investigation, and Beasley can still be charged with a crime based on what happens and what findings come to light.</p><p>This gambling investigation has completely halted Beasley’s NBA career. After originally entering the offseason <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-rumors-mailk-beasley-ready-sign-42-million-contract-before-gambling-probe">expected to sign a three-year, $42 million contract</a> with the Pistons, the 3-point specialist has yet to sign with any team in free agency.</p><p>Since his status as a target in the gambling investigation was changed in the final week of August, multiple teams have checked in with Beasley and his representation, league sources told ClutchPoints.</p><p>The Pistons are one of a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/sources-knicks-pacers-pistons-malik-beasley-free-agency-suitors-gambling-investigation">handful of teams monitoring Beasley</a>, as the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, and Minnesota Timberwolves have also been named as suitors.</p><p>After agreeing to this settlement with his apartment complex in downtown Detroit, perhaps Beasley has already hinted at his true intentions to remain with the Pistons. However, Detroit reinforced its roster this offseason and practically filled Beasley’s role by signing Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson in free agency.</p><p>Still, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-malik-beasley-roster-spot-held-open-gambling-investigation">Detroit has kept its 15th and final roster spot open</a> and would welcome Beasley back should no wrongdoing come to light.</p><p>While the Pistons still own Beasley’s non-Bird rights, his future in the NBA remains a mystery until more details emerge from his gambling investigation.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

After five years of rebuilding from the ground up, the Pistons made it to the playoffs and even competed in a close six-game series against eventual Eastern Conference Finalist New York Knicks. Cade Cunningham, the first overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-45-million-reason-cade-cunningham-smiling-all-nba-selection">arrived as a legitimate superstar</a>, finishing last season as a member of the All-NBA Third Team, and greater things are yet to come for this nascent Pistons team.</p><p>These improvements certainly <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-jaden-ivey-secret-behind-3-0-start-nba-cup">showed for the Pistons in the 2024 NBA Cup</a>, when they finished 3-1 in the group stage — only missing out on the knockout stages because of their relatively poor point differential of plus-seven (the best second-place team were the Orlando Magic with a point differential of plus-45).</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-jb-bickerstaff-eye-opening-takeaway-nba-cup-loss-bucks">Pistons ended up falling short</a> in the final game of the group stage, with eventual NBA Cup champion Milwaukee Bucks dominating them despite being on the road. Detroit was so close yet so far, and now, they’ll be looking to redeem themselves by taking the next step in the third season of the NBA Cup.</p><p>While the Pistons didn’t make any blockbuster moves this offseason (adding Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson, two role players, instead), more improvements from their young core around Cunningham (Jaden Ivey is expected to be back, Ausar Thompson is a defensive menace, and Jalen Duren improved by leaps and bounds) could lead to an even more successful season for them.</p><p>With that said, here are some predictions for how the Pistons will fare in the upcoming season’s NBA Cup.</p><h2>Pistons look to take next step in ascent by flourishing in NBA Cup East Group B</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Cade-Cunningham.jpg"><figcaption>Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Pistons are certainly going to be <a href="https://x.com/DetroitPistons/status/1955698055832826212" rel="noopener">in a position</a> where they could realistically go 4-0 in the group stage of the 2025 NBA Cup. They were drawn into Group B in the Eastern Conference, joining the Boston Celtics, Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, and Brooklyn Nets.</p><p>That Celtics team is not going to be the powerhouse it usually is; their frontcourt is severely depleted and they’ll be without Jayson Tatum for (presumably) the entirety of the 2025-26 campaign.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Magic, despite adding Desmond Bane, could still run into some offensive issues, as Bane alone won’t solve the horrific three-point shooting problem they encountered last year.</p><p>The 76ers could be a major problem, but health is going to be a concern for a team that lost Joel Embiid and Paul George to troubling injury woes for most of last season.</p><p>And to finish it all off, the Nets aren’t expected to pose much of a threat, if any at all. They are in the running for the distinction of being the worst team in the NBA, and they might set a few ignominious records in the process of fielding perhaps one of the most horrible rosters of all-time.</p><h2><b>Pistons game-by-game predictions for 2025 NBA Cup</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Jaden-Ivey-23-and-guard-Cade-Cunningham-2-celebrate-after-the-win-against-the-Sacramento-Kings.jpg"><figcaption>© Kelley L Cox-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><b>Game 1: Pistons @ Nets, November 7 at 7:30 PM E.T.</b></p><p>A <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/brooklyn-nets/nets-news-brooklyn-offseason-roster-transformation-ranked-bottom-league">cursory look at the Nets roster</a> reveals a glaring lack of star power and a logjam across multiple positions that is sure to confound even head coach Jordi Fernandez. Cam Thomas is disgruntled, Michael Porter Jr. is overmatched as a number-one option, and the team’s guard play is going to boil down to the play of three rookies who may or may not pass for viable rotation players, let alone starters, in their first year in the NBA.</p><p>The Pistons <a href="https://www.landofbasketball.com/head_to_head_gl/pistons_vs_nets_game_log_season.htm" rel="noopener">handily swept</a> the Nets last year; they won all three contests against them with an average victory margin of 16.7 points. And the Nets got even worse this season.</p><p>Cunningham and company will make mincemeat of this Nets squad, setting themselves up for the ideal start as the Pistons look to make it deep into the competition this year.</p><p><b>Prediction: Pistons win by 20+ points</b></p><p><b>Game 2: Pistons vs. 76ers, November 14 at 7:30 PM E.T.</b></p><p>Make no mistake about it, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/philadelphia-76ers-2025-nba-cup-east-group-b-predictions">no one should underestimate the 76ers</a>. They have a talented trio consisting of Embiid, George, and Tyrese Maxey, and they have a growing young core as well, headlined by VJ Edgecombe and Jared McCain. Quentin Grimes also looms as another weapon after he broke out in a larger role in Philly towards the end of last season.</p><p>A very exciting matchup this would be if the 76ers are going to be fully healthy for this contest. But that is never a guarantee with Embiid, and, in recent memory, with George. For the 76ers, keeping Embiid healthy for when the games truly matter (playoffs) is the priority; they may not ask him to go full-tilt this early in the season, especially when he’s coming off surgery that ended his season early back in February.</p><p>With the game being at home, the Pistons should handle business.</p><p><b>Prediction: Pistons win by 8+ points</b></p><p><b>Game 3: Pistons @ Celtics, November 26 at 5:00 PM E.T.</b></p><p>From 2022 to 2024, there was a stretch where the Celtics won 12 consecutive games against the Pistons. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/celtics-news-kristaps-porzingis-calls-out-terrible-player-in-loss-to-pistons">Detroit ended that streak</a> in February with a statement 117-97 victory.</p><p>With Tatum out and the Celtics looking like a shell of their championship-winning selves following the offseason trades that sent away Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, Boston is not likely to be much of a threat next year — even in the NBA Cup.</p><p>Expect the Pistons to take care of a shorthanded Celtics team on the road, with Cunningham popping off for 30+ points in a double-digit victory.</p><p><b>Prediction: Pistons win by double digits</b></p><p><b>Game 4: Pistons vs. Magic, November 28 at 7:30 PM E.T.</b></p><p>Two young teams square off in the final game of the group stage for a ticket to the knockout phase. It’s going to be a highly-anticipated contest, with three of the most exciting young players in the league (Cunningham, Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner) looking to take their teams to the next level.</p><p>Last year, the Pistons did struggle against the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/orlando-magic/orlando-magic-2025-nba-cup-east-group-b-predictions">Magic’s elite defense</a>. Orlando remains elite on that side of the ball even with the addition of Bane, and that isn’t about to change anytime soon. They forced Cunningham into tough shooting nights and as the engine of Detroit’s offense, they can ill-afford him having a bad night.</p><p>But even though the Pistons are going to lose against the Magic on this one, they will not be blown out. In fact, they will lose by a very slim margin in overtime. That should be enough to give them the tiebreaker in the point differential department, sending them to the knockout stage over the Magic, which will end up losing out by a hair.</p><p><b>Prediction: Pistons lose by two in overtime but still make it to knockout stage with 3-1 record</b></p><h2><b>Can Detroit advance to Vegas?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/8747cca8-60f0-11f0-b2a6-0242ac120005.jpg"><figcaption>Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>In a plot development that everyone should have seen coming, the Pistons will be advancing to the knockout stage, only to battle the team that knocked them out of playoff contention last year in the Knicks. Historically, the Knicks have always been a good NBA Cup team; hence, the Pistons will be backed into a corner and forced to give it their all if they were to make it to Vegas.</p><p>It’s all going to boil down to the performance of the Pistons’ role players if they were to advance over the Knicks. Last playoffs, their three-point shooting faltered when it mattered most, with noted sharpshooters Malik Beasley and Tim Hardaway Jr. having their fair share of blunders.</p><p>Can LeVert and Robinson do what Beasley and Hardaway couldn’t? Ivey will be back as well. But <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-jalen-brunsons-dad-trash-talks-cade-cunningham-heated-moment">Jalen Brunson is going to be too much</a> of a nuisance for the Pistons, as they came to know all too well last year.</p><p>In a cruel twist, it is the Knicks that once again puts an end to the Pistons’ run, furthering the brewing rivalry between the two sides.</p><p><b>Prediction: Pistons lose to the Knicks in the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup</b></p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

However, the NBA 2K26 snapshot for Detroit feels like it was drawn from a different season. Some players are undervalued relative to the roles they already own, while others are rated as if they’ve finished the next stage of their development. The result is a roster that plays fine on paper in 2K, but poorly represents how this team actually functions in real life.</p><p>Below, I’ll call out five specific players whose 2K26 ratings are either clearly too high or painfully too low, explain why the grades are wrong, and what a more realistic adjustment should look like.</p><h2><b>Cade Cunningham: Underrated at 92 OVR</b></h2><p>Cade is the engine. 2K lists him at 92 overall with an 83 three-point and 75 dunk profile. The box says “Playmaking Inside-Out Scorer,” and that’s accurate, but the rating still undersells what Cade already provides: true on-ball creation, pick-and-roll orchestration, improved pull-up scoring, and the kind of leadership that turned the Pistons into a <a href="https://www.espn.in/nba/game/_/gameId/401768045/knicks-pistons" rel="noopener">postseason team</a>.</p><p>A 92 makes him a top-tier star, but not the transformational floor general he’s become. In a postseason context where lineup construction matters, Cade’s ability to wear multiple hats (primary creator, secondary rebounder, late-game closer) should push him toward the mid-90s in 2K. Realistic target: 94-95 OVR. Understate him and you undercut the Pistons’ simulated ceiling.</p><h2><b>Jalen Duren: Criminally underrated at 82 OVR</b></h2><p>Jalen is listed as an Interior Enforcer with 82 overall, 35 three-point, and 80 dunk. Those archetypal numbers capture his profile most bluntly: high finishing, no shooting, but they don’t reward what actually moves the needle, which is rim protection, rebound control, verticality on both ends, and modern mobility for a big man.</p><p>An 82 puts him in rotation-big territory. That’s the wrong mental model. If Duren is the athletic rim protector who changes shots and governs the paint on both ends, his impact in simulation and in real matchups is larger than 82 suggests. Reasonable 2K justice: 86-87 OVR, with interior defense and offensive finishing prioritized.</p><h2><b>Jaden Ivey: Overrated at 81 OVR</b></h2><p>Jaden’s a high-energy ISO specialist: 81 OVR, 84 three-point, 85 dunk. Those shooting numbers are a red flag. Ivey is explosive and an elite finisher at the rim, the 85 dunk shows that, but calling his three-point shooting 84 in the same breath elevates him to “ready secondary creator/spacing guard” in 2K terms, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-rumors-detroit-seek-jaden-ivey-trade-2025-26-season">which isn’t fair to Detroit</a> or to builders who want realism.</p><p>2K seems to have leveled him up on hype rather than stable performance. Ivey is still refining shot mechanics and decision making; he’s a high-ceiling piece, not a finished product. As a result, his OVR and especially his 3PT grade should come down slightly. A more defensible rating would be 78-79 OVR, with 3PT closer to the mid-70s until there’s consistent evidence otherwise.</p><h2><b>Ausar Thompson: Undervalued two-way star at 81 OVR</b></h2><p>Ausar’s 81 overall with a 92 dunk reads like a highlight reel stat and not a complete evaluation. He’s listed as a “2-Way Rim Attacker,” which is correct. Length, switchability, and downhill finishing are his calling cards. Ausar’s archetype is tailor-made for today’s switching defenses and quick transition offenses; a fairer grade would be in the 84-86 OVR range if 2K wants roster realism to match on-court impact.</p><h2><b>Duncan Robinson: Overrated at 77 OVR</b></h2><p>Duncan’s presence on the roster and the 84 three-point grade give him a stat line that looks tempting in 2K: a catch-and-shoot ace who stretches defenses. But context matters.<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-duncan-robinson-incredible-idea-change-the-nba-forever"> Robinson’s value is entirely dependent</a> on shot volume, health, and role stability. A 77 overall takes him into the upper-rotation conversation; in Detroit’s lineup construction, he is far more likely to be a specialist off the bench who can get targeted by defenders once scouts game-plan him.</p><p>Put simply: 2K’s number flattens nuance. Robinson should be lower, around 74-75, so users understand he’s a single-skill specialist, not a multi-positional piece.</p><h2><b>Team rating ≠ Team identity</b></h2><p>The aggregate effect of these misratings is more than cosmetic. In MyNBA simulations, matchups, and roster building, small rating shifts cascade into big differences. Undervaluing a primary playmaker (Cade) and a roving rim protector (Duren), while inflating specialists creates an illusion that Detroit is more replaceable and less plug-and-play than it really is. Although he is <a href="https://frontofficesports.com/malik-beasley-nba-betting-investigation/" rel="noopener">no longer a target</a> in this investigation, Beasley is still a subject, according to Front Office Sports.</p><p>Although a gray area still exists regarding whether Beasley has any connection to the finer details of the investigation, his status as a “subject” does complicate matters.</p><p>If the prosecutor or the grand jury had “substantial evidence” linking Beasley to the commission of a crime, he would still be a target in this investigation. However, Beasley is <a href="https://www.justice.gov/jm/jm-9-11000-grand-jury#9-11.151" rel="noopener">considered a “subject,”</a> meaning his conduct is still within the scope of the grand jury’s investigation.</p><p>As a result, he could still be charged with a crime based on what happens.</p><p>“Malik is not charged, not indicted and not a target of the investigation, but he’s unemployed because of it,” Beasley’s lawyer, Steve Haney, told The Detroit News on Friday after <a href="https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nba/pistons/2025/08/22/malik-beasley-no-longer-target-of-fbi-gambling-probe-lawyer-says/85775202007/?gnt-cfr=1&amp;gca-cat=p&amp;gca-uir=true&amp;gca-epti=z117970p118850c118850u006270e003600v117970&amp;gca-ft=239&amp;gca-ds=sophi" rel="noopener">no longer being labeled</a> as a target in this gambling investigation. “It is flat-out un-American to be deprived of the right to work based on a mere allegation.</p><p>“Hopefully, this gives some new hope to his situation of being gainfully employed in the new year.”</p><p>As far as whether he would ultimately be charged with any wrongdoing in the matter, Haney said he had “no idea,” acknowledging that this whole ordeal has directly impacted Beasley’s profession and future in the NBA.</p><p>Since news of Beasley no longer being a target came to light on Friday, he has been at the center of NBA offseason discussions.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/sources-knicks-pacers-pistons-malik-beasley-free-agency-suitors-gambling-investigation">Multiple teams have been monitoring Beasley’s situation</a> this summer, including the Pistons. Whether a team ultimately signs the 28-year-old will greatly depend on whether he is ultimately charged with a crime.</p><p>Before his name appeared in this gambling investigation, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-rumors-mailk-beasley-ready-sign-42-million-contract-before-gambling-probe">Beasley was on track to earn a three-year, $42 million contract</a> with the Pistons. Ultimately, that money was instead spent on Duncan Robinson and Caris LeVert in free agency, two veterans the Pistons signed as replacements for Beasley, given his uncertain status.</p><p>While there is still a chance Beasley could return to Detroit on a smaller contract, his NBA future continues to up in the air since his name is still involved in this investigation.</p><p>Federal authorities began investigating Beasley in June and <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46047941/attorneys-malik-beasley-no-longer-target-gambling-probe" rel="noopener">launched an official investigation</a> on allegations of NBA gambling, specifically regarding player prop bets made during the 2023-24 season when he was playing for the Milwaukee Bucks.</p><p>At the time, Haney stated that “an investigation is not a charge,” and that this investigation would end with his client being declared innocent. Beasley remains uncharged, which has since led to Haney saying that this ongoing investigation has been the “opposite of the presumption of innocence,” according to ESPN.</p><p>Beasley is not the only player to be investigated for possible gambling violations. Miami Heat guard <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-new-details-terry-rozier-sports-betting-probe-emerge">Terry Rozier is still dealing with his investigation</a>. Last year, Jontay Porter, the brother of current Nets forward Michael Porter Jr., was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/toronto-raptors/raptors-jontay-porter-hit-with-nba-banhammer-after-violating-gambling-rules">banned from the NBA</a> for his illegal gambling activity.</p><p>Along with his federal gambling investigation, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-malik-beasley-sued-evicted-after-failing-to-pay-rent-in-detroit">Beasley was recently evicted from his downtown Detroit apartment</a>. Two lawsuits were filed against Beasley for unpaid rent totaling $21,500 this year. He is also being <a href="https://frontofficesports.com/malik-beasleys-messy-offseason-includes-2-25m-suit-from-ex-agency/" rel="noopener">sued for over $2 million</a> by his former agency in a breach of contract suit.</p><p>Playing in all 82 games last season with the Pistons, Beasley averaged 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 41.6 percent from 3-point range. The investigation was first announced just days before <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-rumors-malik-beasleys-free-agency-reopen-gambling-probe-bombshell">Beasley was slated</a> to enter free agency this summer, and now that his name has been cleared, teams are lining up to try to acquire his services.</p><p>Recently, NBA insider Michael Scotto of Hoopshype reported on <a href="https://x.com/MikeAScotto/status/1959643002575438004" rel="noopener">two more teams</a> that have interest in the sharpshooter.</p><p>“The Knicks and Cavaliers have checked in on Malik Beasley, sources told @hoopshype,” reported Scotto on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Scotto also noted that “Knicks executive Gersson Rosas signed Beasley to a four-year, $60M deal with the Timberwolves. Knicks and Cavs have minimum deals to offer. Beasley is no longer a target of a federal investigation.”</p><p>The connection that Beasley has to the Knicks organization could make them the frontrunner out of those teams to land him, although nothing has been confirmed on that front. It’s also unlikely that Beasley would accept a minimum deal after the breakout season he had last year, playing a vital role in helping the Pistons perform above expectations.</p><p>There’s also the prospect of Beasley returning to Detroit, although the Pistons went out and brought in two bench shooters–Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson–while the investigation was taking place.</p><p>All told, every team in the NBA would love to have a player like Beasley, a microwave scorer who can get red-hot from beyond the arc in a hurry and who showed at least some improvement on the defensive end of the floor last year for Detroit.</p><p>It remains to be seen whether the investigation’s length will impact the dollar figure that Beasley ends up taking home this summer, but it seems inevitable at this point that he will end up signing somewhere.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

After a terrific season with the Detroit Pistons and finishing second in the <a href="https://www.nba.com/news/kia-nba-sixth-man-2024-25-payton-pritchard" rel="noopener">Sixth Man of the Year award voting</a>, Beasley was expected to sign a lucrative long-term contract.</p><p>Once his name was associated with this gambling investigation, his free agency was put on hold, and the Pistons immediately pivoted to other options on the marketplace.</p><p>With Beasley’s status unknown and after losing veteran shooter Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Denver Nuggets, the Pistons secured deals with Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson, and Javonte Green. Originally, Beasley was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-rumors-mailk-beasley-ready-sign-42-million-contract-before-gambling-probe">expected to receive a three-year, $42 million contract</a> to remain in Detroit.</p><p>Although this type of offer is no longer on the table from the Pistons, team president Trajan Langdon and the front office have long held their 15th and final roster spot open. This was done on purpose as the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-malik-beasley-roster-spot-held-open-gambling-investigation">organization has been awaiting word on Beasley’s future</a>.</p><p>The Pistons still hold interest in Beasley following his dismissal from the federal gambling investigation, sources told ClutchPoints.</p><p>If Beasley were to re-sign with the Pistons, the most he could do so for <a href="https://x.com/BobbyMarks42/status/1958867947180404812" rel="noopener">would be $7.2 million</a>, according to ESPN front office insider Bobby Marks. This is about half of what Beasley was set to make with Detroit before his investigation, which could lead him to evaluate other options late in free agency.</p><p>Whether or not Beasley wants to remain in Detroit is the ultimate question as other teams have also emerged as suitors for the sharpshooting wing.</p><h2><b>Knicks, Pacers interested in Malik Beasley?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Malik-Beasley.jpg"><figcaption>Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Throughout the offseason and his ongoing federal investigation, several teams have kept tabs on Beasley.</p><p>Along with the Pistons, the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers have also been monitoring Beasley and his status in free agency this offseason, sources said. Beasley has also been linked to the Knicks by Ian Begley of SNY, who reported on Friday that <a href="https://x.com/IanBegley/status/1958871351579525544" rel="noopener">New York has done background work</a> on the sharpshooter.</p><p>Neither team has made a contract proposal to the 28-year-old at this time.</p><p>Given their current payroll constraints and being hard-capped at the second apron, the Knicks only have $3.7 million to work with. New York is only able to offer Beasley a minimum contract, and they still have two roster spots to fill.</p><p>With other teams around the league having more to offer than a minimum deal, it is expected that Beasley will take his time and evaluate his options to regain value lost as a result of this investigation.</p><p>Although the Pacers have a full 15-man roster at this moment, it is expected that they won’t keep both James Wiseman and Tony Bradley entering the 2025-26 season. Both players have nonguaranteed contracts and can be leveraged if Indiana looks to make a roster upgrade.</p><p>Beasley would be the type of player such a move would be executed for, and the Pacers have a $14.1 million disabled-player exception that can be used as a result of Tyrese Haliburton’s Achilles injury. However, Indiana won’t be a taxpaying team during the 2025-26 season, and they are roughly $6 million below the luxury tax entering the final week of August.</p><p>The Sacramento Kings ($7.3 million), Miami Heat ($7.3 million), Oklahoma City Thunder ($8.5 million), Chicago Bulls ($14.1 million), and Charlotte Hornets ($14.1 million) are among a handful of other teams with remaining spending power who could pursue Beasley if they chose to do so.</p><p>While it’s possible the Brooklyn Nets could pursue Beasley using their cap space, multiple league sources have shot down such an idea as a result of the Nets’ rebuilding plans and focus on youthful talents.</p><h2><b>Malik Beasley’s offseason of drama</b></h2><p>Federal authorities began investigating Beasley in June and launched an official investigation on allegations of NBA gambling specifically regarding player prop bets made during the 2023-24 season when he was playing for the Milwaukee Bucks.</p><p>There was <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45608949/sources-pistons-malik-beasley-subject-federal-gambling-probe" rel="noopener">heavy betting interest</a> in Beasley’s statistics around January 2024, according to ESPN.</p><p>At the time, Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, stated that “an investigation is not a charge” and that this investigation would end with his client being declared innocent.</p><p>Roughly two months later, the 28-year-old shooting guard has been fully cleared from this federal gambling investigation, which cost him a possible three-year extension with the Pistons worth more than $40 million in total value.</p><p>Beasley is not the only player to be investigated for possible gambling violations as Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier is still dealing with his investigation. Last year, Jontay Porter, the brother of current Nets forward Michael Porter Jr., was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/toronto-raptors/raptors-jontay-porter-hit-with-nba-banhammer-after-violating-gambling-rules">banned from the NBA for his illegal gambling activity.</a></p><p>Along with his federal gambling investigation, Beasley was recently evicted from his downtown Detroit apartment. Two lawsuits were filed against Beasley for unpaid rent totaling $21,500 this year.</p><p>In a recent video on Snapchat, Beasley spoke at length about the narratives surrounding him.</p><p>“I feel like people have turned their backs on me,” Beasley said. “People were saying some crazy things in the media… People judging me. Have I made mistakes in my life? Yes… I’m human, but I know what I know.</p><p>“I’ll tell you one thing, I got a chip on my shoulder. I’m ready to destroy anybody in front of me. I’m ready to prove again that I belong in this league.”</p><p>Playing in all 82 games last season, Beasley averaged 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 41.6 percent from 3-point range. He trailed Anthony Edwards by just one made 3-pointer for the league lead during the 2024-25 season.</p><p>Time will tell what the future holds for Beasley as the Pistons will have some competition if they want to reach a contract agreement with Beasley late in the offseason.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The sharpshooter was expected to re-sign with the Detroit Pistons on a three-year, $42 million contract, NBA sources told Charania. But that proposal was quickly revoked following the news of the investigation.</p><p>With Beasley’s name reportedly cleared, his free agency will reopen. “Several teams have maintained contact with Beasley’s representation during the past few weeks about his status,” NBA sources told Charania.</p><p>The Pistons spent most of their money elsewhere, signing sharpshooter Duncan Robinson and using the full mid-level exception to sign Caris LeVert. As Charania reported, the Pistons’ initial proposal was around $14 million per year. After signing LeVert, Robinson, and Javonte Green, the maximum Detroit can offer is $7.2 million annually, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.</p><p>With few playoff teams able to offer more, a return to Detroit would likely mean another one-year deal for Beasley.</p><h2><b>Indiana Pacers</b></h2><p>The Indiana Pacers are one of the only playoff teams that can offer Beasley more than $7.2 million per year, according to Charania. The Pacers currently have around $14 million in cap space before they enter the first apron.</p><p>They have also yet to use their non-taxpayer mid-level exception, meaning their offer for Beasley could range between $10-$14 million per year. Without Tyrese Haliburton for much, if not all, of the 2025-26 season, the Pacers need offense.</p><p>If Andrew Nembhard takes over point guard responsibilities, Beasley could stretch the floor and support the Pacers’ fast, high-energy offensive attack.</p><h2><b>Milwaukee Bucks</b></h2><p>Let’s not rule out a reunion with the Milwaukee Bucks. Despite being the most financially challenged, Milwaukee could be the sleeper team to acquire Beasley.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/milwaukee-bucks/bucks-news-gm-done-everything-possible-keep-giannis-antetokounmpo">Giannis Antetokounmpo has yet to clarify his future</a> with the franchise. However, he was never charged and was not the target of the ongoing investigation.</p><p>“Months after this investigation commenced, Malik remains uncharged and is not the target of this investigation,” Haney told ESPN. “An allegation with no charge, indictment or conviction should never have the catastrophic consequence this has caused Malik. The report rocked the NBA, and along with it, Beasley’s free agency plans. Due to the investigation, Beasley’s negotiations were halted, and his NBA career was in jeopardy.</p><p>Now, though, Beasley’s lawyers have made an announcement regarding the gambling investigation. According to them, the guard is <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46047941/attorneys-malik-beasley-no-longer-target-gambling-probe" rel="noopener">no longer the target of the gambling investigation. </a></p><p>“Haney and Schachter told ESPN that they had extensive conversations and meetings with the Eastern District of New York and received a determination on Beasley not being considered the target after allegations regarding gambling on NBA games and prop bets during the 2023-24 season,” Shams Charania reports.</p><p>With that news, Beasley will soon be able to sign a new contract with an NBA team. That might come sooner than expected, as Charania reports that several teams maintained their interest in the guard throughout the last few weeks.</p><p>“Several teams have maintained contact with Beasley’s representation during the last few weeks about his status, sources said,” Charania said.</p><p>Beasley is coming off one of his best seasons in the NBA. In his first year with the Detroit Pistons, the guard averaged 16.3 points per game. He solidified his reputation as one of the best shooters in the league, shooting 41.6% from deep. His 319 three-pointers made were a Pistons franchise record and were the second-highest in the NBA last season behind Anthony Edwards.</p><p>Beasley came under fire last June after ESPN reported that the guard was under federal investigation. According to the report, the guard was being investigated for potentially betting on games during the 2023-24 NBA season. The investigation was triggered after an unusual change in prop bets for the then-Milwaukee Bucks guard.</p><p>This, unfortunately, isn’t the first time in the last year that an NBA player was investigated due to gambling. Earlier this year, Terry Rozier was investigated as part of a federal investigation into a sports gambling ring. Last year, former Toronto Raptors forward <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/toronto-raptors/nba-news-jontay-porter-faces-prison-time-guilty-gambling-verdict">Jontay Porter pleaded guilty to wire fraud after being involved in a gambling scandal.</a></p><p>Beasley was rumored to be in talks for a lucrative contract extension with Detroit. He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Detroit Pistons</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>It’s been an interesting offseason for the Detroit Pistons, who have put their pursuit of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-malik-beasley-roster-spot-held-open-gambling-investigation">retaining free-agent sharpshooter Malik Beasley</a> on hold amid his federal investigation for potential gambling activities. In the meantime, the Pistons have signed bench scorers Caris LeVert <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-duncan-robinson-early-whirlwind-experience-detroit">and Duncan Robinson</a> to try to help fill that void in the event that Beasley doesn’t return.</p><p>Robinson has long been known as one of the elite three-point shooters in the NBA landscape today, and recently, the newly signed Pistons forward floated <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1957538693776044512" rel="noopener">an interesting idea</a> to spice up end-of-quarter scenarios.</p><p>“Last-second shots at the end of quarters should fall under a different field-goal percentage,” said Robinson, per the Old Man and the Three podcast.</p><p>For years now, NBA players have often declined shooting half-court shots at the end of quarters (unless it’s the fourth quarter of course) in an attempt to preserve their field-goal percentage.</p><p>Various ideas have been proposed to help fix this issue, and Robinson’s suggestion may just be what the NBA needs to implement in order to motivate players to let it fly at the buzzer.</p><h2><b>An interesting Pistons team</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Detroit-Pistons-guard-Cade-Cunningham-2-dribbles-defended-by-Atlanta-Hawks-guard-Dyson-Daniels-5.jpg"><figcaption>Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Last year, the Pistons had their best season in more than a decade, earning the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference and taking the New York Knicks to six hard-fought games in the first round of the playoffs.</p><p>The Pistons are building around franchise cornerstone Cade Cunningham, who has turned himself into one of the elite point guards in the NBA today, and they’ve also got some other considerable young talent on their roster in players like Jalen Duren.</p><p>The Pistons will also be getting back wing scorer Jaden Ivey, who missed most of last year with an injury and should provide some extra perimeter playmaking for Detroit, especially in the event that Beasley does not return.</p><p>Robinson figures to provide not only his elite shooting but also some veteran experience, having been on multiple deep playoff runs during his days with the Miami Heat.</p><p>In any case, the Pistons’ season is slated to get underway on October 22 on the road vs. the Chicago Bulls.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
