Entering the Memphis Grizzlies matchup with only three total assists and multiple off-nights on offense, his head coach, Steve Kerr, admitted <a href="https://x.com/kenzofuku/status/1982975342949347663" rel="noopener">his guard was struggling</a>.</p><p>“He’s not at his best right now,” Kerr said before the game. “I think he’s pressing a little bit. Brandin always wants to be great, and sometimes he needs to relax and be good, and that’s when he becomes great.”</p><p>It didn’t take long for Podziemski to take Kerr’s words right to heart as he lasered in a triple on the very first possession of the game. From there, Podziemski remained cool and collected, helping the Golden State Warriors to a comfortable 131-118 win over the Grizzlies with 23 points, four rebounds, six assists, on 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. But when you think about all the ups and downs all three of those guys have had the last couple of years… It’s impressive they’ve stayed with it and continued to fight. Now they’re playing at a really high level together. It’s really exciting.”</p><p>With each guy stepping into a franchise as accomplished as the Warriors, it was hard for them to find their role next to players in the prime of their careers in win-now mode. They didn’t have the runway to develop like other young NBA players; they weren’t playing on lottery-bound teams in meaningless games, they were competing for minutes and playing time. The “two timelines” plan has been largely described as a failure, as none of the young guys have turned into clear-cut successors to the Dubs’ dynasty.</p><p>However, those same first-rounders are finding ways to meaningfully contribute this season. Yeah, it’s a great night for Brandin. He and Moses (Moody) knocking down 10 threes combined. That was impressive and fun to watch. On Monday night, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-jonathan-kuminga-play-buzzing-lakers">Kuminga had another incredible outing</a>, this time dropping a team-high 25 points and 10 rebounds to power the Dubs to a 131-118 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.</p><p>Kuminga is displaying playmaking, hustle, and effort on both ends of the floor that haven’t been seen from him in the past. There was a reason as to why head coach Steve Kerr kept him at such a short leash, as he tended to clash with the Dubs’ system that was predicated on ball and player movement. But Kuminga is playing his best basketball yet, and he’s become a huge reason as to why Golden State has started the season 3-1.</p><p>In his postgame presser, Kuminga reiterated <a href="https://twitter.com/957thegame/status/1983047723470467125" rel="noopener">just how committed</a> he is to the team, and he’s showing it by giving it his all on the glass and on the defensive end.</p><p>“The commitment of just doing it. They handled the Grizzlies rather easily, taking a 131-118 victory after getting off to a marvelous start in the third quarter, and Green, for his troubles, ended up with seven points, four rebounds, and 10 assists on the night as Golden State notched its third win of the season in four games.</p><p>There is certainly plenty of history between the Warriors and Grizzlies. These two teams faced each other in the 2022 NBA playoffs, and head coach Steve Kerr was memorably livid after Dillon Brooks took out Gary Payton II and injured him on a reckless defensive play.</p><p>Since then, the Grizzlies have struggled; they lost in the first round of the playoffs in 2023 and 2025, and they endured a nightmare campaign in 2024. Joining Kuminga in the 20-point club on Monday are Brandin Podziemski (23), Jimmy Butler (20), and Moses Moody (20). Bradley Beal missed Sunday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, and he’ll continue to be sidelined when the Clippers take on the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.</p><p>The Clippers released their injury report on Monday evening, with listed Bradley Beal as “OUT” for Tuesday night’s contest against Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and the Warriors. Beal was previously listed as “QUESTIONABLE” to play on Sunday night against the Warriors before being ruled out prior to the game, head coach Tyronn Lue announced.</p><p>This time, Beal is being ruled out a whole day in advance, which indicates that Beal simply isn’t close to a return for Tuesday night’s game or that the team wants to leave him home to recover while the Clippers finish their one-game trip with two days off after.</p><p>In two appearances, Bradley Beal has averaged just 5.5 points, 1.0 rebound, and 1.0 assist in 20 minutes per game. The Clippers guard is still rounding into form following offseason knee surgery in May that forced him to be a limited participant throughout the early portions of training camp.</p><p>Tyronn Lue says that Beal suffered the injury on a defensive play during the Clippers’ home opening win against the Phoenix Suns on Friday night.</p><p>“He took that charge and it kind of gave him some back spasms,” Lue said.</p><p>In his 14-year, 803 game NBA career, Beal has averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game on 46.4 percent shooting from the field and 37.6 percent from three. The Clippers are slowly incorporating Beal into what they want to do, and the hope is that Beal can rediscover a spark that he appeared to lose a bit during a couple of losing seasons with the Phoenix Suns.</p><p>Beal’s next opportunity to play will be Friday, when the Clippers return home for a Halloween showdown against the New Orleans Pelicans.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The 39-year-old center <a href="https://x.com/kenzofuku/status/1982536754134692148" rel="noopener">will not play against</a> the Memphis Grizzlies, the front end of their upcoming back-to-back, according to head coach Steve Kerr. Horford will be available the following night against the Los Angeles Clippers, which will give him a full four days of rest since the Warriors’ overtime win against the Nuggets the previous week.</p><p>After practice Sunday morning, Kerr explained some of the reasoning behind resting Horford against the Grizzlies instead of against the Clippers.</p><p>“We always take [the matchups] into consideration. Against Portland [or Denver], it was always a pretty easy choice, dealing with [Nikola] Jokic,” Kerr told reporters. “I would say this one is a much more difficult decision because Memphis, you know, Jaren Jackson Jr. is obviously a great player. But we opted to play him against the Clippers, [as Ivica] Zubac has given us trouble. It’s a really big team, so that’s the way we’ll go with this one.”</p><p>Against Golden State last season, Zubac averaged 17.5 points, 15.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. The Dubs struggled to keep the big man off the boards, lacking the playable size options to help Draymond Green in the frontcourt. Horford’s presence was missed against the Trail Blazers as Portland scored a whopping 66 points in the paint. </p><p>“We’ll lean into our depth and keep playing people in combinations we believe in and hopefully use our depth to get through this next back-to-back.”</p><h2>Update on Moses Moody’s health</h2><p>The Warriors plan to only play Horford on one end of back-to-back games will be the plan moving forward, as Kerr has stressed multiple times this season. It’s the same load management plan the Boston Celtics and Joe Mazzulla used with Horford during his time there, and the Dubs will remain strict with that procedure.</p><p>On the other end of the Warriors’ health updates, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-warriors-optimistic-moses-moody-debut-vs-blazers">Moses Moody returned to the rotation</a> in Portland. Kerr described Moody’s performance versus the Blazers as a game for Moody to “get his feet wet” and refind his rhythm after being sidelined with a calf injury the past two weeks. Moody told reporters that his calf injury was “really minor.”</p><p>“No structural damage or anything,” Moody said. “I got the MRI and everything. Really it was just strengthening it. It was precautionary and yeah, I’m in a good place.”</p><p>Moody will certainly be an option for Kerr to start once he returns to full form with his defense and spacing capabilities. When asked what’s harder to regain his rhythm, his shooting or his defensive flow, when returning from injury, Moody emphasized finding <a href="https://x.com/kenzofuku/status/1982555576447189364" rel="noopener">his role in different lineups</a>.</p><p>“I would say, it’s a different flow for different groups you’re on the floor with. So just finding your group and finding your role within that group takes some getting used to,” Moody said. “But defensively, I think that’s pretty self-explanitory. The Warriors never expressed too much concern for Moody’s calf strain, but opted for caution given how tricky that injury can become.</p><p>Pre-game, before <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-new-death-lineup-beat-nuggets">Golden State’s overtime win over the Denver Nuggets</a>, head coach Steve Kerr shared his optimism for Moody’s return.</p><p>“We’re hopeful that he’ll play tomorrow,” Kerr said at the time. “He scrimmaged yesterday. We didn’t have practice, but some of the low-minute guys came in [to scrimmage]. I talked to Moses today, and he said he’s feeling good. So I’m hopeful he’ll play tomorrow night and that’s the plan.”</p><p>Golden State will be a bit shorthanded as they <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-al-horford-back-to-back-status-gets-firm-steve-kerr-confirmation">will not have Al Horford due to load management</a>. Horford will not play both games in any back-to-backs this season, and he already got his run in 26 taxing minutes versus Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. The plan is still to play Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green, but they each played upwards of 34 minutes. Hence, Moody’s return to the lineup comes at a convenient time. Golden State gets some youth and athleticism back that should give the veterans some relief on both ends and allow Steve Kerr to distribute the minutes to ease their burden.</p><h2>How Moody figures to fit into the Warriors’ lineup</h2><p>Before his calf strain, Moody was projected to start for Golden State and serve as their de facto point-of-attack defender. Following the Jimmy Butler trade last season, Moody rose to the starting lineup next to Curry, Green, Brandin Podziemski, and the newly acquired star, a combination that became Golden State’s most potent in their 23-8 sprint to the playoffs.</p><p>In 211 minutes, that 5-man combination had a 120.6 offensive rating, a 104.2 defensive rating, and a 16.4 net rating, not to mention a 2.45 assist-to-turnover ratio. Moody, in that lineup, guarded the opposing team’s ballhandlers. And on the other end, spaced the floor as a shooting and slashing threat. The wheels fell off a bit for Moody in the postseason as his shooting numbers declined. But a big part of the decline came due to a UCL injury in his right thumb he was playing through. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-moses-moody-breaks-silence-playing-torn-ucl">Moody underwent surgery on his thumb</a> in the offseason and described how the rehab process helped him get better with his off-hand.</p><p>Moody should be able to return to form once he returns from his calf strain. His shooting looked as good as ever in training camp before he suffered the calf strain. His 3-and-D versatility gives Kerr another tool to use depending on the matchup. The head coach has stressed that the team has a lot to figure out rotationally, as they have yet to nail that down. The excess of betting has led to troubling patterns of behavior, as seen in fans reaching out to Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.</p><p>Prior to the game against the Denver Nuggets on Thursday, Kerr <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6745819/2025/10/23/nba-coaches-players-react-to-betting-scandal/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=twhq&amp;source=twitterhq" rel="noopener">openly addressed the problem</a> of fans sending him and his players emails and essentially blaming them for losing bets, per Nick Friedell of The Athletic.</p><p>“I think the biggest thing is that our players face a lot of wrath (from) fans,” Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr said before Thursday’s game against the Denver Nuggets. “I’ve talked to our guys; our guys get nasty social media posts from people who have bet on games. That’s the thing that I don’t like about this the most. Our players should not have to deal with that, but they do. They probably would anyway, even if we didn’t have a partnership with these companies.</p><p>Furthermore, Kerr put the issue of sports betting into its present-day context.</p><p>“So it’s just kind of the modern life: social media, everyone having access to everyone else. It’s rough. I feel bad for our guys. I’ve gotten some emails in the past from people I don’t know, saying, ‘Hey, thanks a lot. I had money on the game tonight, and you screwed up by subbing so and so in,’ or something like that. I’ve gotten those, too. It’s weird. It’s really weird.”</p><p>For those who bet on the Warriors, they made out well. The Warriors <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-jimmy-butler-stephen-curry-night-night-nuggets">defeated the Nuggets in overtime</a>, 137-131.</p><h2><b>The Warriors go strictly by the book</b></h2><p>Under Kerr, the Warriors <a href="https://www.si.com/nba/warriors/news/steve-kerr-addresses-how-warriors-avoid-gambling-issues-after-rozier-situation" rel="noopener">run a tight ship</a>, especially when it comes to avoid the temptations of sports betting, per</p><p>Prior to Thursday’s game, Kerr talked about the protocol his team takes when going over rules and regulations on betting.</p><p>“Our legal counsel came and talked to the team four days ago,” Kerr said. “Every team in the league does this. They go through bulletin points of everything: what is allowed and what’s not allowed.”</p><p>“So our players are well aware — all players are well aware of what they’re allowed to do and what they’re not allowed to do.”</p><p>A far cry from Kerr’s playing days in the 1990s when he won five championships, three with the Chicago Bulls (1996, 1997, 1998) and two with the San Antonio Spurs (1999, 2003).</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
