With the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-bam-adebayo-norman-powell-bad-narrative-tyler-herro-amidst-skid">Heat looking to get out of the skid</a>, one player that will no doubt be crucial to the team’s success is Norman Powell, who spoke about his first season with Miami thus far.</p><p>Out of the positives this season for the Heat, Powell has been huge, as he was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers in the offseason, having been worth every penny and more as Miami only traded Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson in the multi-team deal.</p><p>Besides the losing streak, Powell has been a standout, being one of the main offensive scorers for Miami, averaging a team-high 24.6 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 43.6 percent from deep. Powell would say this season has been “the most pure basketball” he’s played, helped by the team’s new fast-paced, free-flowing offense.</p><p>“I feel good,” Powell said. “Playing, going out there, not thinking, not worried about anything, just playing the game in front of me, trying to be the best version of myself for the team, trying to be a great leader, trying to show through my years of experience and the different roles that I’ve been in, talking to the guys, with everybody’s role changing and things like that.”</p><p>“I think that’s where I found my niche,” Powell continued. “And where I can be the most impactful with my play and then my leadership style coming in here early, with the young guys, seeing me get my work in, talking to them, keeping them motivated.”</p><h2><b>Heat’s Norman Powell on the recent slump</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Heat-forward-Norman-Powell.jpg"><figcaption>Sam Navarro-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>As<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-why-norman-powell-miami-arent-concerned-over-recent-slump"> Powell has said before that he isn’t concerned with the Heat’s slump</a>, there could be some validity in that thinking, especially with how the team’s new offense took the league by surprise to start.</p><p>It was always inevitable that other teams would catch on and adapt, with Miami looking to counter, and mixed with crucial players being in-and-out of the lineup like himself, Tyler Herro, and others, it will be a process.</p><p>“Anytime guys are out for long periods of time, Davion missed a game, but me, Bam, Tyler, have missed multiple games in a row, you know?” Powell said in a one-on-one interview with ClutchPoints. “And then the team has to figure out how to adjust guys stepping into a bigger role, more minutes, how they want to play, how aggressive they want to be, and then coming back, and you’ve got to adjust again.”</p><p>“It’s always going to take a couple games, especially when you have dynamic players that can affect the game in many ways,” Powell continued. “You know, me, Bam, Tyler, Wiggs, D Mitch, when any of us are in and out the lineup, there’s going to be a little funkiness to it to get everybody back in rhythm and in flow. But these are what these days are for having multiple days in between our next game to really figure out the identity and how we want to play on both sides of the ball. Getting a high-usage scorer like Herro back does change aspects, as Powell’s statistics have dipped, as his usage rate was at 27.1 percent in the 17 games to start before, but it will be a “day-by-day” approach for the whole team to get figured out with each other.</p><p>“It’s day by day, you know, I’m saying like, like for us, we don’t want to be playing our best basketball in December, you know, we want to keep, like, mountain climbing. You know, if you keep going up, you’re gonna stop a little bit. You might go down and reroute. But keep climbing,” Powell said. “We want to get to our best basketball around March, February, March, after the All-Star break, you know.”</p><p>“So everything we’re going through now was great for us to, you know, kind of see it, go through, it, feel what it’s like, you know, to go on a four-game losing streak, and for us to mentally be tough, to dig ourselves out of it and start playing our brand of basketball,” Powell continued. “But each day we’re moving closer to the playoffs. Though the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-norman-powell-eye-opening-claim-offense-nba-cup-elimination">Heat were disappointed with being eliminated in the NBA Cup</a> quarterfinals by the Orlando Magic last Tuesday, on the bright side, it does give the team a much-needed break, as discussed by team captain Bam Adebayo.</p><p>Speaking to ClutchPoints in a one-on-one interview after Friday’s practice, Adebayo spoke about a bevy of topics, from speaking about the “bad narrative” surrounding Tyler Herro to the in-season break that Miami is currently in. After losing to Orlando on Tuesday, the team got two days off before Friday’s practice, as Adebayo called it a “reset” for everybody.</p><p>“I mean, everybody gets to reset. Everybody gets to, you know, it’s not a game every other day. We get to reset. We’re at home. We get to figure out how we can bounce back from this four-game skid,” Adebayo said.</p><p>Adebayo is in the midst of another impactful season for the team, being an anchor on each side of the ball, currently averaging 19.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 34 percent from deep. With the team’s recent slump, Miami is working on countering other teams’ adjustments to their fast-paced offense, as they’ve slowed down as of late.</p><p>“That’s the thing, getting back to our strengths, coaches watching film and telling them what our strengths are, and then obviously, getting in here, working on your weaknesses, getting to get up and down a little bit, compete, like I said, getting out of this four-game skid,” Adebayo said to ClutchPoints.</p><h2><b>Bam Adebayo on the reason the Heat are slumping </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Bam-Adebayo-on-Dec.-5-2025.jpg"><figcaption>Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>After the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-shocked-reaction-to-nba-cup-exit-after-magic-loss">Heat lost to the Magic in the NBA Cup quarterfinals</a>, the game was a microcosm of the problems the team is currently dealing with, as with players in and out of the lineup, they are still looking to build chemistry. Which is why Herro’s name keeps getting brought up, as in the six games he’s played in after missing the first 17 games of the season due to offseason ankle surgery, Miami was 6-6.</p><p>Before Herro’s return, the Heat were 11-6, being one of the league’s leading teams in total points scored per game while boasting the NBA’s fastest-paced team, but since his return, Miami has slowed down. However, the problems go far beyond Herro, as in the current four-game skid, he played in two of them, and arguably the worst loss against the Sacramento Kings last Saturday, he was absent for that contest.</p><p>Adebayo spoke about the narrative around Herro, crediting the slump more to having players in and out of the lineup, as Norman Powell, Andrew Wiggins, Davion Mitchell, and others had missed time recently. Plus, with the natural adjustments being made from opposing teams, the Heat were always going to be in the position of adapting to other teams’ counterattacks.</p><p>“I mean, my thing is, like, we had guys in and out of the lineup, and we were still trying to figure it out regardless,”  Adebayo said. “So it’s like, why is him coming back making a difference of, you know, starting that type of narrative?”</p><h2><b>Erik Spoelstra on the goals of the Heat in the midst of a slump</b></h2><p>As the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-makes-guarantee-about-tyler-herro-norman-powell-duo-after-mid-start">Heat look to overcome their middling play,</a> the team will utilize the in-season break and the practice time on Friday and Saturday to turn a corner for Monday’s game. While Miami still leads the NBA in pace (105.30 possessions per 48 minutes), the last four games have seen them slowed down to 101. possessions per 48 minutes, <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1999534287616344556?s=20" rel="noopener">using the practice days to get back</a> to their strengths.</p><p>“Well, we want to take advantage of any kind of practice time we can get,” Heat head coach Spoelstra said to ClutchPoints. “I mean, obviously, we would rather be playing right now, but you find the next thing that will move your team forward, and that’s the rest that we had the last two days. He then covered FAU Sports for The Palm Beach Post.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Miami Heat</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>MIAMI – After the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-shocked-reaction-to-nba-cup-exit-after-magic-loss">Miami Heat lost in the NBA Cup quarterfinals to the Orlando Magic</a> last Tuesday, 117-108, the team is now on a four-game losing streak, having dropped five of its previous six contests. With the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-norman-powell-eye-opening-claim-offense-nba-cup-elimination"> Heat looking to improve its offense</a>, there is a popular narrative going around on social media blaming the returning Tyler Herro for the slump.</p><p>Since his return, Miami is 3-5, but in the games Herro has played in, they’re 3-3, with the guard being in only two games as part of the four-game skid. With the Heat known for its new fast-paced, free-flowing offense, as the team leads the league in pace with 105.3 possessions per 48 minutes, it has slowed down since his return.</p><p>The theory around Herro does have holes, as he’s been a net positive when on the floor. Miami has outscored teams by 3.6 points per 100 possessions in the 191 minutes he’s played. The whole talk around Herro has garnered the reaction of team captain Bam Adebayo, who told ClutchPoints after Friday’s practice that it’s a “bad narrative,” and it isn’t the first time he’s been targeted.</p><p>“It’s a bad narrative to start. It’s just a terrible narrative,” Adebayo said. “We’re gonna need Tyler [Herro] at the end of the day. The man brings an aspect to our game where he can go get a bucket at any point in time. You’re gonna need that down these long stretches when the game gets close, and you got to make something out of nothing. So that point, that’s just a bad narrative.”</p><p>“I feel like they’ve been trying to make Tyler the reason for X amount of years. They’ve always been like, ‘Oh, you know, this happens when Tyler…’ like come on man, relax with the narratives,” Adebayo continued.</p><h2><b>Norman Powell on narrative around Tyler Herro and the Heat</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Tyler-Herro-and-Norman-Powell-on-Dec.-1-2025-1.jpg"><figcaption>Jim Rassol-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Though it has been a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-makes-guarantee-about-tyler-herro-norman-powell-duo-after-mid-start">middling start to the Heat with Herro’s return,</a> the issue is more the team figuring out how to counter opponents’ adjustments to their fast-paced style, as there have been setbacks with players in and out of the lineups with injuries. Those injuries are even beyond Herro, as some, such as Norman Powell, Davion Mitchell, and others, have missed time during the slump.</p><p>Back to the narrative around Herro, statistics show the problem runs beyond him, as with him on the floor, the team outscored the Magic on Tuesday by 8.1 points per 100 possessions. But the Heat was outplayed by 50 points per 100 possessions in the 14 minutes he was on the bench, as he scored 20 points in total.</p><p>One aspect of the team that is still working to be developed is the chemistry between Herro and Powell, a backcourt duo that could be explosive. Talking about the chatter online, Powell downplays it to ClutchPoints, saying how quickly social media can turn.</p><p>“Just online drama,” Powell said. “If we do something good, everybody’s up in arms, saying we’re going to be a championship team, and you’ll go through a couple losses, miss a couple shots, people are going to be in your DMs and putting out memes and information about how there’s a problem.”</p><p>“We know what we’ve got going on within, we know the chemistry, we know the bond that we have on and off the court,” Powell continued. “And we know basketball, we know it’s going to take a second for everybody to get comfortable when guys are coming in and out of the lineup, roles changing…minutes are up and down, just trying to figure out how we want to play, who’s going to be on the floor.”</p><h2><b>Heat’s Tyler Herro answers if he’s bothered by the narrative</b></h2><p>Looking at the recent losses in the slump, including the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-bam-adebayo-calls-out-miami-bad-basketball-nba-cup-magic">Heat’s NBA Cup loss to the Magic</a>, the pace has slowed down to 101.1 possessions per 48 minutes over the last four games. With even five of the team’s six slowest-paced games this season happening in the last eight games.</p><p>Getting a player back like Herro, who does add a lot of offensive firepower to Miami, was inevitable in leading to the team regressing to the mean, especially with the fast start on offense. With <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-norman-powell-eye-opening-claim-offense-nba-cup-elimination">the Heat’s NBA Cup elimination</a>, fans are wondering what the reason is for the slump and if Tyler Herro is at the forefront of it.</p><p>While it would be easy to point his way with the team having slowed down in the six games he’s played in, with the group being 3-3, it goes beyond Herro’s presence. The statistics show that it isn’t a Herro problem for the team, as when he’s on the floor, Miami has outscored teams by 3.6 points per 100 possessions in the 191 minutes he’s played.</p><p>Even looking at the loss to Orlando, where he scored 20 points, the team outscored the Magic by 8.1 points per 100 possessions, but the Heat was outplayed by 50 points per 100 possessions in the 14 minutes he was on the sidelines.</p><p>The one aspect that fans were excited to see is the backcourt duo with star Norman Powell, though head coach Erik Spoelstra believes they’ll be<a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article313604841.html" rel="noopener"> “fine.”</a></p><p>“We’ll have that opportunity in games to work on that,” Spoelstra said, according to The Miami Herald. “They’ve been working on it behind the scenes. It’s only [72] minutes. So that’ll continue to get better. If you have the skill level that they have, that they both can shoot the basketball, they both can put the ball on the floor, and they both want to make it work, based on my experience, those things work out. And we need it. We need it, quite frankly. Herro would admit it’s still a “work in progress” for him to get back to 100 percent health and also fortify the chemistry with Miami under their new fast-paced offense.</p><p>“It was my sixth game tonight,” Herro said after the Magic loss. “So just coming out here, it’s going to be a work in progress….I just got to continue to fight. We all are trying, and we want to win obviously, and that’s what matters. We’re all intentional, and we just got to continue to work at it, continue to get better. Miami came out flying, opening the game with a 15-0 blitz and leading 30-17 after one, but the Magic <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/how-heat-can-get-back-to-playing-fast-after-bad-loss-vs-kings">slowly dragged the game</a> into their preferred tempo. Orlando outscored Miami 39-27 in the second quarter, then controlled the final stretch behind Desmond Bane’s 37 points and six threes via the ESPN Box Score.</p><p>Norman Powell still led the Heat with 21 points on 8-of-19 shooting, adding seven rebounds and two assists. Tyler Herro, back from a toe issue, chipped in 20 points, while Bam Adebayo and Andrew Wiggins each finished with 19. Davion Mitchell added 11 as Miami shot a respectable 45 percent from the field but just 24 percent from deep, going 8-of-33 from three.  </p><p>That shooting dip, combined with a slower game, is where Powell’s comments hit. They have now lost four straight games, including their NBA Cup quarterfinals clash against the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night, 117-108. Miami has now fallen to 14-11 on the season, and their most recent loss has to be very concerning considering that they were healthy against the Magic.</p><p>This <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-downplays-game-plan-changes-davion-mitchell-injury">Heat team carries itself with so much pride</a>, and so does head coach Erik Spoelstra. While the NBA Cup trophy is not the biggest silverware that’s up for grabs over the course of a season, the combination of pride as well as monetary incentive made it something for teams to fight for — even for those that may not be considered legitimate title-contenders.</p><p>And for the Heat head coach, he is still processing the fact that their NBA Cup run, after a 3-1 run in the group stage that saw them finish with an impressive plus-49 point differential, is <a href="https://x.com/Anthony_Chiang/status/1998592467155964320" rel="noopener">now over</a>.</p><p>“We have a very competitive group. There was something to really play for right now. We had all wrapped our minds around it. While two losses to the Magic is nothing to be ashamed of considering the talent they have on the roster even without Franz Wagner, their other recent defeats have to be very painful to take.</p><p>They lost to a struggling Dallas Mavericks team, 118-108, on Wednesday night and then fell short against a directionless Sacramento Kings team, 127-111, this past Saturday. But they failed to sustain it, as the Magic led for the majority of the ensuing frames.</p><p>Miami only shot 45% from the field, while allowing Orlando a 51% marksmanship. The Heat only made eight of their 33 three-point attempts. While they forced the Magic to 17 turnovers, they failed to capitalize, scoring only eight points off those miscues.</p><p>Bam Adebayo <a href="https://twitter.com/5ReasonsSports/status/1998580162410021340" rel="noopener">didn’t hide his disappointment</a> after the game, particularly with their defensive effort.</p><p>“We had an opportunity to do something that we’ve never done before, and we let it slip away. Obviously, it was frustrating. Nobody wants to be on that type of losing streak. I feel like we’re a better team than that,” said Adebayo in a video posted on X.</p><p>“We made it easy for them. On one end, we’re playing bad basketball. Looking to bounce back after the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/how-heat-can-get-back-to-playing-fast-after-bad-loss-vs-kings">Heat’s bad loss to the Sacramento Kings</a> last Saturday, there is one aspect about the team that could make them dangerous in the pairing of Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware.</p><p>While that frontcourt duo started a good majority of the second half in the 2024-25 season, which led to exciting results, the output this season has been middling. When the two have been on the floor with one another this season, Miami has been outscored by 12.5 points per 100 possessions in the 123 minutes they’re together.</p><p>Also having the worst net rating among the team’s two-man combinations, per The Miami Herald, head coach Erik Spoelstra <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article313522029.html" rel="noopener">would challenge the pairing</a> after Monday’s practice.</p><p>“I just want to see that group, when we play bigger, just for it to be a plus,” Spoelstra said. “So we have some work to do there. It should be a very good defensive group, but that’s a group that hasn’t been able to defend so far, and we’ve got to continue to work at that.”</p><h2><b>Erik Spoelstra sees potential in exciting Heat frontcourt</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Bam-Adebayo-and-Kelel-Ware-on-Jan.-25-2025.jpg"><figcaption>John Jones-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>As the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-bam-adebayos-personal-message-kelel-ware-recent-uneven-play">Heat captain in Adebayo has sent messages to Ware</a> and has been a mentor figure for the 22-year-old center, there’s no denying the talent he has as an athletic seven-foot big man. With how elite Adebayo is, mixed with Ware’s ability, Spoelstra sees the potential.</p><p>“It’s about, ultimately, the scoreboard,” Spoelstra said. “So defensively, I see it as a pairing that could really be good defensively. Recover ground, rebound really well, protect the rim really well. So far, it hasn’t necessarily been that. Offensively, I’m willing to work through it because it changes some of the driving angles. But I’m willing to do that as long as it defends at a high level.”</p><p>Ware, who has had up-and-down stretches this season, mentioned being “locked in” and wanting to prove to Spoelstra that the two-big lineup can work. For Adebayo, the message remains that he and Ware “need to take it personal” that Spoelstra is challenging them and wants to try other lineups.</p><p>At any rate, it remains to be seen what lineups Spoelstra brings out for Tuesday’s quarterfinals NBA Cup game against the Magic as Miami gets key players back from injury, like Tyler Herro and Davion Mitchell.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He looks for a sense of consistency and getting used to the team’s new fast-paced, free-flowing style of offense, averaging 23.8 points per game in the five games played.</p><p>As for Mitchell, he has been the unsung hero in Miami, serving as the team’s point guard who excels on each side of the ball, known for his defensive tenacity and ability to facilitate in the Heat’s new offense.
