With<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-rumors-miami-was-unaware-of-terry-roziers-alleged-gambling-activity"> rumors that the Heat were unaware of any gambling investigation with Rozier</a> before trading for him from the Charlotte Hornets, there have been some discussions about whether the team should be compensated.</p><p>In the latest from The Miami Herald, ESPN insider and former Brooklyn Nets executive Bobby Marks discussed the situation and provided insightful points. He would answer the question of whether Charlotte should have let Miami know that Rozier was under an active investigation, then by the NBA, which eventually found no wrongdoing.</p><p>Marks would say, <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article312655617.html" rel="noopener">“It’s a gray area,”</a> saying there isn’t a specific rule saying that teams need to disclose that type of information, unless it was dealing with his medical information. Still, Marks would say that “if I was the Heat, I would have wanted to know.”</p><p>“As part of NBA trade calls, teams are required to disclose medical information that would prevent a player from playing basketball,” Marks said. “There’s nowhere in the NBA operations manual, at least I haven’t found it, where it says that the NBA is obligated to disclose information that a player has been investigated or is currently being investigated.”</p><h2><b>Why it’s a “gray area” regarding the situation with Heat’s Terry Rozier </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Terry-Rozier.jpg"><figcaption>Reggie Hildred-Imagn Images.</figcaption></figure><p>While <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-bam-adebayo-miami-details-weird-aura-after-terry-roziers-arrest">the Heat deal with Rozier’s arrest</a>, there is speculation as to the situation dealing with the NBA and Hornets not letting the team know about the investigation. Miami would give up a first-round pick and Kyle Lowry for Rozier before the 2023 trade deadline, with Marks and others in the league having the belief that Charlotte knew the guard was in an active investigation.</p><p>“I’m sure [the Hornets] knew that somebody on the roster was being actively investigated in a gambling thing,” Marks said. “But it’s a gray area that I think the league is going to have to look long and hard at. When players are being investigated and are part of trade discussions, do they have the authority and morality to disclose that information? Because on the other end, legal will say, ‘Well, wait a minute. If we disclose it and the guy is not guilty, then we’ve just harmed the trade.’”</p><p>At any rate, it remains to be seen what happens and if there is any chance that the Heat would be compensated for being blindsided by the league and the Hornets for the Rozier trade, not knowing about the investigation. While the team looks to sustain the up-tempo and fast-paced nature of their offense, New York had the right idea in intensifying their man-to-man defensive pressure, clogging in any driving lanes that were in sight for Miami, leading to ill-advised shots.</p><p>Still, Norman Powell would keep the ship afloat with scoring 13 points in the period, but the other side saw Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby recording 11 and 10 points in the duration. While the first quarter saw the Heat trying to return to what made them successful in the first two games, they came back to that in the second quarter, ramping up the defense, playing at the pace they like, resulting in them scoring 33 points in the period.</p><p>They had eight points in transition and shot 57.9 percent from the field (11 of 19), while making four of their nine three-point attempts, with three of those makes coming from newcomer Simone Fontecchio, who continues to make an impact. The second quarter also saw Bam Adebayo be more assertive on offense, scoring nine points and collecting five rebounds.</p><p>Miami would take a three-point lead into halftime against New York, which some have as one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. One eye-opening statistic would be the 16 points the Heat had in fast-break opportunities, showing the emphasis on playing fast.</p><h2><b>Heat seal the deal in the second half against the Knicks </b></h2><p>While the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-why-erik-spoelstra-isnt-freaking-out-despite-tough-loss-to-magic">Heat weren’t freaking about the opening loss to the Orlando Magic</a> last Wednesday, it’s easy to see why, as the team’s confidence in their new identity has been shown through three games. There is a clear focus on what the team wants their identity to be, especially after the past five seasons of Miami finishing towards the bottom of the league in offensive rating and pace.</p><p>Though a small sample size, heading into Sunday’s game, Miami had a pace of 112.3 possessions per 48 minutes, which is the fastest in the league and also ranked third in the NBA with 24 fastbreak points. The Heat kept it up in the third quarter of the game, as while it was originally a slug fest to start the second half, Miami seemed to have outrun the Knicks.</p><p>Miami would build up an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter to stun the Knicks, and while it got sketchy towards the end, the Heat stood their ground, hitting some key buckets like Andrew Wiggins making a three late <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1982643981898137887" rel="noopener">or an alley-oop to</a> Adebayo to seal the deal. With the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-fans-flaming-grizzlies-near-40-point-halftime-deficit">Heat having a nearly 40-point lead at halftime</a>, it was a historic night as head coach Erik Spoelstra spoke on starting Kel’el Ware instead of Nikola Jovic.</p><p>That had been the question all training camp and preseason, as fans were wondering who would start alongside Bam Adebayo and headline Miami’s frontcourt. In the opening loss to the Orlando Magic, Spoelstra went with Jovic, but switched to Ware on Friday night, leading to the big win.</p><p>Granted, Miami’s offense looked good in both games, playing at a much faster pace, which was a key goal for the team throughout the offseason. In the preseason, Spoelstra started Jovic to start, but went to Ware in the later exhibition games due to an injury.</p><p>However, Spoelstra would reveal that he was <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1VygdhcZWI" rel="noopener">“leaning”</a> in starting Ware in the opener, but the big man had dealt with neck spasms and an ankle injury going into the game.</p><p>“The last four days of preseason, both guys were hurt,” Spoelstra said, via the team’s YouTube page. “I’m talking about Kel’el and Niko [Jovic]. They were minor injuries. But I didn’t know who was going to be available that first night. I was kind of leaning toward this starting lineup going into game one. And then Kel’el had a neck spasm. Then he had a minor sprained ankle, where he didn’t practice the day before the game. Adebayo would score 18 of Miami’s first 25 points to finish with 24 points on the game as Ware had 19 points and nine rebounds.</p><p>Still, Jovic was a crucial player in the rorotationscoring 20 points off the bench to go along with six rebounds and four assists.</p><p>“This is a good way to get all three of those guys the minutes that we need in Bam and Kel’el and Niko,” Spoelstra said. “But we’ll see. There might be certain games where it makes more sense to start Niko. It doesn’t really matter in my mind. I know, probably to other people it might. But those guys are going to get minutes, and we need Kel’el and Niko to grow and assume more responsibilities as the season goes on.”</p><p>Jovic would say after the game that it was a “matchup” reason for him not starting, but emphasized he doesn’t mind where he plays. While the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-bam-adebayo-miami-detail-new-fun-offense-in-blowout-win-vs-grizzlies"> Heat are responding well on the court with the 146-119 win over the Memphis Grizzlies</a> on Friday, there is a possibility that the front office could feel duped by originally trading for Rozier.</p><p>Not deceived because of the player himself in Rozier, but due to Miami being unaware of an investigation that surrounded Rozier when he was with the Charlotte Hornets. According to The Miami Herald, the league<a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article312636202.html" rel="noopener"> “did not inform”</a> the team about the alleged gambling activity that was connected to Rozier, especially not before the Heat traded Kyle Lowry and a first-round pick for him in January of 2024.</p><p>The Hornets, as well, did not inform Miami, as reported by Barry Jackson and Anthony Chiang.</p><p>“But following its own protocol, the NBA did not inform the Heat (or other teams) of that red flag in the months that followed, nor did it inform the Heat prior to the league approving the January 2024 trade that sent Rozier to the Heat for Kyle Lowry and a first round pick, multiple sources told The Miami Herald this week,” The Miami Herald wrote.</p><p>“The Hornets also did not inform the Heat, sources said, though the Hornets are refusing to say if they were even aware of the matter at the time of the trade,” the article continued.</p><h2><b>Heat was unaware of Terry Rozier’s investigation by NBA and the Hornets</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Heat-guard-Terry-Rozier.jpg"><figcaption>Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>As the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-sports-world-reacts-fbi-gambling-arrests-terry-rozier-chauncy-billups"> sports world continues to react to the Heat guard in Rozier</a> and others being arrested by the FBI, there is some speculation that the team should be compensated for not being relayed the information of the league’s investigation. While the NBA found no clear signs of wrongdoing at the time, that could have been enough information for Miami not to trade for Rozier at the time.</p><p>Though it’s reported that the NBA and Charlotte didn’t inform the Heat of the investigation into Rozier, The Miami Herald would get word from the Hornets’ chief communications officer.</p><p>“Mike Cristaldi, the Hornets’ chief communications officer, said the team would not say if the Hornets knew of the NBA’s investigation at the time of the trade, whether it had any knowledge of sportsbooks flagging bets involving Rozier and why it did not inform the Heat if it did know,” The Miami Herald wrote.</p><p>“The Heat didn’t know about the investigation at the time of the trade and as of Friday, had not been told whether the investigation had concluded when the trade was made,” the article continued.</p><p>At any rate, it remains to be seen what happens with Rozier and if the Heat will take any action against the league, with Jackson and Chiang reporting that it is still “undetermined” if the team will look to regain the first-round pick they traded earlier.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

This was an area of focus coming off last season, which marked another year of Miami ranking towards the bottom of NBA teams in regards to pace.</p><p>The team would score the third most points in franchise history, including the highest scoring half in Heat history with 86. Adebayo <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article312629587.html" rel="noopener">would describe how “fun” the offense is</a> at the current moment, according to The Miami Herald.</p><p>“Playing with a pace like this, you love to see everybody collectively having fun, everybody getting to touch the ball,” Adebayo said as he scored 24 points. “You can’t really scout plays for us. There are no plays. In the whole first half [Friday against the Grizzlies], I don’t think Spo ran a play. This was even on display in Miami’s close loss to the Orlando Magic in the opener, where one player of many who have thrived from the new offensive look is Jaime Jaquez Jr., now in his third season.</p><p>Coming off the bench, Jaquez has gone back to his strengths, being a physical force that drives downhill and can either make a tough bucket or be a playmaker with an advantage. He recorded 17 points on eight of 12 shooting from the field with 10 rebounds and six assists, speaking about the new look on offense.</p><p>“I’ll say it’s a lot of fun,” Jaquez said. “It’s something we’ve been working on for a while. Something we’ve really bought into, I think, as a team. And you’re just seeing all that buy-in come to life on the floor. I think we’ve been due for a win like this.”</p><p>While a two-game sample size is not all that big, Miami has run a pace of 112.3 possessions per 48 minutes, which is the fastest in the league and is also third in the NBA with 24 fastbreak points. He had a rusty start in the season-opener, having 15 points and 12 rebounds on 30.8% shooting against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.</p><p>The star big man made a huge response in the second game. They held the lead and never looked back, ultimately securing the win with how big the lead was throughout the night.</p><p>Rebounding and perimeter shooting played major roles in the matchup. The Heat dominated both categories as they secured 57 rebounds while knocking down 19 3-pointers. It wasn’t the case for the Grizzlies, grabbing 42 rebounds while converting 13 triples.</p><p>Eight players scored in double-digits for Miami, including Adebayo. He finished with 24 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a steal. He shot 8-of-19 from the field, including 4-of-8 from downtown, and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Nikola Jovic came next with 20 points and six rebounds, Kel’el Ware had 19 points and nine rebounds, while Jaime Jaquez Jr. put up 17 points and 10 rebounds. We’ll help him as much as we can. But I can’t say it’s easy, I can’t say it’s hard, but we just got to be together and continue doing this, I guess, without him for some time.
