A big reason for the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-vj-edgecombe-nba-debut-turns-heads-history-books">76ers’ solid play has been rookie guard VJ Edgecombe</a>, although he did appear on the team’s injury report ahead of their NBA Cup game against the Detroit Pistons.</p><p>VJ Edgecombe was <a href="https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/referee/injury/Injury-Report_2025-11-13_07PM.pdf" rel="noopener">officially listed as questionable</a> on the 76ers’ injury report for the team’s NBA Cup game against the Pistons, as per the NBA’s official injury list. He is listed as dealing with back spasms. Edgecombe has not missed a game yet this season, although the month of November has been a littler quieter for him than how he began the season.</p><p>The No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Edgecombe was looking like an early frontrunner for the league’s Rookie of the Year Award. Those talks have since cooled following his own cool-down.</p><p>Edgecombe has appeared in all 11 games for the 76ers so far, at a little over 37 minutes per game. He’s been averaging 15.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.4 steals with splits of 40.9 percent shooting from the field, 36.2 percent shooting from the three-point line and 75.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>The 76ers’ strong start has coincided with other injury issues as well. Paul George has yet to make his seasons debut as he continues his recovery from a knee injury. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-joel-embiid-listed-day-to-day-with-knee-injury">Joel Embiid has also been in and out of lineup also due to a knee injury</a> going back to last season, but his absences have been part of his management plan from the team.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The sport always draws tons of dialogue when it comes to player rankings,<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/predicting-records-playoff-performances-30-nba-teams-2025-26"> record predictions</a>, and hot takes. Not every player is going to live up to expectations, though. For whatever reason, whether it is because of a poor schematic fit, injury issues, or regression, certain NBA players disappoint in comparison to expectations. Check out the gallery to see the five biggest flops so far during the 2025-26 season.</p><h2><b>5. Ace Bailey, Utah Jazz</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Ace-Bailey.jpg"><figcaption>Chris Nicoll-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Ace Bailey was regarded as a high-risk, high-reward prospect. The Utah Jazz took him after he fell in the draft because he was viewed as a player who could turn into a star with the team. The team was praised for landing the Rutgers product with the fifth overall pick, but his rawness has been evident so far.</p><p>Bailey has been incredibly inefficient. Bailey is averaging just 7.5 points per game, whereas each of the four players drafted before him are averaging at least 14 points per game. He is connecting on just 38.3 percent of his shots, and only 26.7 percent of his long balls are going in. These are really bad numbers for someone as tall as Bailey, whose calling guard is supposed to be shooting.</p><p>Everybody knew there would be growing pains, but there haven’t been enough flashes of greatness thus far. The Jazz have had far too many <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/biggest-nba-draft-busts-in-history-ranked">draft busts</a> in recent years, as Taylor Hendricks, Brice Sensabaugh, and Cody Williams are already looking like such. Bailey has plenty of time to not only avoid bust status but to develop into a star. The early returns haven’t been promising, though.</p><h2><b>4. Derrick White, Boston Celtics</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Derrick-White-1.jpg"><figcaption>Winslow Townson-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>It was common knowledge that the Boston Celtics would take a step back this year. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/celtics-news-jayson-tatums-2-word-social-media-message-injury-recovery">Jayson Tatum is out for the year</a> with a torn achilles, and Kristaps Porzingis and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/jrue-holiday-trade-grades-for-celtics-blazers-after-stunning-deal">Jrue Holiday were traded</a> in the offseason ahead of what is being considered a gap year in Boston’s championship window.</p><p>Jaylen Brown was already established as a star, but fans were excited to see what he could do as the top option. So far, Brown is having a career year. Derrick White was also expected to take a step forward and prove that he could be more than just a role player. White has struggled with a bigger role, though.</p><p>White is scoring less than he was when he was surrounded by better players. He has also been incredibly inefficient with defenses, giving him more focus. White’s 35.2 percent mark from the field is nearly 10 percentage points worse than it was last year, and he is only shooting 29.2 percent from deep. White has not stepped up for the Celtics, and Boston’s record has suffered because of it.</p><h2><b>3. Joel Embiid, Philadelphia 76ers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Joel-Embiid.jpg"><figcaption>Bill Streicher-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Injuries have derailed Joel Embiid’s career, and he is no longer the perennial MVP candidate that he once was. The latest problem in Embiid’s extensive injury history was arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, which has him on a <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/76ers-joel-embiid-offense-minutes-restriction/" rel="noopener">minutes restriction</a>. Embiid has always missed a lot of time, but he has historically been dominant when he has been able to play.</p><p>Now, the Philadelphia 76ers are limiting Embiid to just 23.3 minutes per game. He hasn’t had enough court time to thrive this year, and when he has been on the hardwood, he hasn’t been as dominant as fans are accustomed to. Embiid surpassed the 30-point-per-game mark in three straight seasons. Now his scoring mark is in the teens.</p><p>He has had his moments throughout his career, but injuries have resulted in Embiid being one of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/biggest-what-if-players-in-nba-history">biggest “what-ifs” in NBA history.</a> This season is just further proof.</p><h2><b>2. Cam Johnson, Denver Nuggets</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Cam-Johnson-1.jpg"><figcaption>Isaiah J. Downing-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Denver Nuggets were viewed as having had one of the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/ranking-the-2025-offseason-of-all-30-nba-teams"> best offseasons this year</a>. They added depth in the form of Bruce Brown, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Jonas Valanciunas. That depth has allowed the Nuggets to reestablish themselves as championship contenders this season.</p><p>Their biggest offseason move was<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/brooklyn-nets/grading-nets-michael-porter-jr-cam-johnson-trade-nuggets"> trading Michael Porter Jr. for Cam Johnson</a>, though, and so far, Johnson has underwhelmed with the Nuggets. A season after averaging 18.8 points per game, Johnson is averaging just 7.2 points per game. Sacrifices need to be made when playing with Nikola Jokic, who is the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-top-100-player-rankings-2025-26-season-10-1"> best player in the NBA,</a> but Jokic’s playmaking prowess should have only helped Johnson, not hurt him.</p><p>A statistical drop-off could have been expected in the new system. The concern is more that Johnson just hasn’t met the eye test in Denver so far. He looks particularly timid to shoot the ball and establish his scoring. Historically a noted 3-point shooter, Johnson is hitting just 21.1 percent of his long balls. Hopefully Johnson turns things around. When he does, the Nuggets will be a really scary team. So far, though, Johnson has been one of the biggest flops of the 2025-26 season.</p><h2><b>1. Morant is playing poorly, and he is butting heads with the coaching staff. The point guard is shooting 35.2 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from 3-point land. His 18.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game are both career lows since his rookie season.</p><p>Morant’s poor play has gone deeper than just his on-court production. He has seemingly done everything in his power to be a poor leader and to say the wrong things in media. His lack of effort and behavioral issues resulted in a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/memphis-grizzlies/grizzlies-ja-morant-suspended-one-game-after-going-off-on-coaches">one-game suspension</a>. This was, of course, just one of many suspensions for Morant during his Memphis Grizzlies tenure.</p><p>Morant is a talented player, but he isn’t living up to his potential. While Kelly Oubre Jr. scored the game-winning basket for the 76ers, Philadelphia was in position to win due to a hot game from young wing Justin Edwards, who hit multiple big three pointers down the stretch of the game.</p><p>After the game, Edwards was asked by the media what he yelled after hitting the clutch shots from beyond the arc.</p><p>He started to answer before his mom, who was in attendance for the press conference, hilariously <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1988643025300721797" rel="noopener">cut him off.</a></p><p>“I know. Their 7-4 start to the season is impressive in that regard, as Embiid is yet to go full-tilt since the start of the new campaign, with Philly still limiting his workload. In fact, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-joel-embiid-out-vs-celtics-concerning-knee-injury-update">Embiid was a notable absentee</a> during the 76ers’ 102-100 win over the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, with Philadelphia reporting that he’s experiencing soreness in his right knee.</p><p>Embiid had been sitting out the second game of a back-to-back set all season long to this point for the 76ers, but he has otherwise been available. This made his absence on Tuesday night that much more conspicuous. But the good news, as per Shams Charania of ESPN, is that his right knee <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1988456660965487086" rel="noopener">was evaluated tonight</a> and the team found no structural issues. Thus, he can be considered day-to-day moving forward.</p><p>The schedule is also working in the 76ers’ favor. After experiencing a few back-to-backs over the first few weeks of the season, they have only two games this week — the recently-concluded outing against the Celtics, and an NBA Cup tussle against the surging Detroit Pistons on Friday.</p><p>This should give Embiid plenty of time to rest and heal from whatever soreness he’s experiencing in his right knee. What makes this 7-4 start to the new campaign that much more impressive is that Joel Embiid continues to be limited by a minutes restriction, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-joel-embiid-paul-george-progress-injury">Paul George has not played a single minute yet</a> this season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this past offseason.</p><p>George has been inching closer to making his season debut for the 76ers, but the team has been very cautious with his knee considering his history of injuries. Moreover, he’s already 35 years of age, so he’s already endured a lot of wear and tear in his career. He was supposed to be re-evaluated by doctors this weekend in preparation for a potential return, and it looks like the verdict is in on what he needs to be cleared to play.</p><p>According to Shams Charania of ESPN, “doctors want additional strength of his left quadriceps to support the knee” <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1988454020701130898" rel="noopener">before they clear</a> the 76ers forward for a return to action.</p><p>This indicates that George is simply ramping up and building strength on his legs just so he wouldn’t be prone to re-aggravation of the knee problems he endured last season in his maiden season with the 76ers.</p><p>George had a nightmare 2024-25 season on the injury front; he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-paul-george-couldnt-move-confession-mystery-injury">hyperextended his knee during preseason</a> and did not look right for much of that campaign as a result before the 76ers decided to shut him down, helping keep their first-round pick (which then became V.J. Embiid has not played over 26 minutes in a game, and he will not play in any back-to-backs.</p><p>Now, coming off an extended rest after not playing against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, Embiid has been ruled out for Tuesday night’s game against the Boston Celtics with what the team is <a href="https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/referee/injury/Injury-Report_2025-11-11_01PM.pdf" rel="noopener">labeling</a> as “right knee soreness” on the injury report.</p><p>However, Embiid’s injury came with some extra language from the team that could hint at the former league MVP missing extended time.</p><p>Along with ruling Embiid out for Tuesday night’s game against Boston, the 76ers also stated that the star big man will be <a href="https://x.com/MikeAScotto/status/1988315297510789466" rel="noopener">evaluated by doctors</a> for his ongoing right knee soreness, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. At this time, the Sixers have not provided any further details on Embiid’s status past being out for their game against the Celtics.</p><p>Throughout his career, Embiid’s left knee has been the biggest concern, as he underwent arthroscopic surgery in April 2025. Now, Embiid is dealing with issues with his right knee, signaling that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-are-100-cooked-with-this-version-of-joel-embiid">something else could now be wrong.</a></p><p>He was not listed on the injury report entering Tuesday and was expected to play against the Celtics before the team provided this update in the afternoon. Now, Embiid’s status for the 76ers’ next game on Friday will be in question since he is consulting with doctors about his right knee.</p><p>Embiid last played on Saturday against the Toronto Raptors, a game the Sixers won 130-120, with Embiid scoring 29 points in 26 minutes.</p><p>In Embiid’s absence on Tuesday night, Tyrese Maxey will continue to do the heavy lifting for the 76ers. Maxey has averaged a league-high 41.1 minutes per game this season, leading to some concerns about whether head coach Nick Nurse is wearing down the young guard too early in the season.</p><p>Then again, Maxey has not looked fatigued on the court, as he is averaging 33.2 points and 8.2 assists per game while shooting 47.0 percent from the floor as the 76ers’ primary playmaker and scorer.</p><p>The 76ers are currently 6-4 entering Tuesday night’s home game against the Celtics. A win would put them in a multi-team tie with a handful of teams for the third-best record in the Eastern Conference.</p><p>Whether they win or lose against the Celtics, all eyes will now be on Embiid’s knee health, as his absence looms large over the Sixers’ ability to find success throughout the 2025-26 season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He came away with 17 points and 12 rebounds. So far, he is averaging 6.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Overall, he is the top player in rebounding and in showcasing his veteran leadership and energy.</p><p>Over the course of his career, he has averaged 12.1 rebounds per game and has led the league in rebounding four times.</p><p>Additionally, Drummond is one of Philadelphia’s top defensive players and is flexible, playing as a starter and off the bench when needed.</p><p>Before the season began, there were talks that the 76ers <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-rumors-philadelphia-trying-trade-andre-drummond">were looking to trade Drummond</a> as a way to fill up cap space.</p><p>As of now, the 76ers are off to a 6-4 start and will play the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.</p><h2><b>The special bond between athletes and their pets</b></h2><p>Drummond is not alone in sharing a special bond with his pet. The Pistons, on the other hand, improved to 8-2, including 5-1 on the road, to solidify their hold on the top spot in the Eastern Conference.</p><p>Philadelphia had a final chance to send the game into overtime, but Tyrese Maxey missed his three-point attempt as time expired.</p><p>Maxey cut the Pistons’ lead to one, 109-108, after scoring four straight points, including a nasty poster against Cade Cunningham with only 1:14 left. Andre Drummond chipped in a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds.</p><p>The Sixers played without Joel Embiid, who was rested on the second end of their back-to-back.</p><p>The 25-year-old Maxey has been playing at an All-Star level once again amid Embiid’s inconsistent presence and Paul George’s continued absence due to a knee injury. Arguably the biggest storyline of the season for Philadelphia has been the play of their backcourt, with Tyrese Maxey getting off to a red-hot start to the campaign and VJ Edgecombe also raising eyebrows so far early in his rookie year.</p><p>Embiid has rebounded to start playing better than he looked throughout the first couple of games of the season, and Philadelphia has put together a strong offensive attack as a result, flanked with capable wings like Kelly Oubre, and eventually Paul George once he returns to the lineup.</p><p>At this point, the 76ers’ defense has been something of a question mark, especially as Embiid is no longer nearly as mobile as he was during the prime years of his career. Still, if Philadelphia can continue stacking up wins at this rate, it shouldn’t be too difficult to secure a playoff spot in a putrid Eastern Conference.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>After cobbling together minutes with two-way players like <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-1-overreaction-trade-target-amid-chaotic-start-season">Dominik Barlow and Jabari Walker at the power forward spot</a> as Paul George recovers from a knee injury, the Philadelphia 76ers decided to give Trendon Watford the nod at starting power forward in their first game back in black, gold, and red jerseys, and were immediately rewarded for that decision with a career-best two-way barrage.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/toronto-raptors/raptors-news-brandon-ingram-spikes-water-bottle-ugly-play-76ers">Taking the court against a Toronto Raptors team</a> that just took care of the Atlanta Hawks the night before, the excitement in South Philadelphia was at an all-time high, with a returning Hip-Hop teaming up with Franklin for a mascot one-two punch as the 2000-01 team was celebrated on the court and throughout the game. Watford, taking the court alongside his good friend Tyrese Maxey, came out of the gate hot and turned in an all-time great effort at the power forward spot, scoring 20 points, a career-high 17 rebounds, and 10 assists on the way to his <a href="https://Twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1987358426146750819" rel="noopener">first-ever triple-double</a>.</p><p>Goodness, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound forward-sized player dishing out passes and bringing in rebounds on the regular? Is it too soon to compare that to Ben Simmons? Considering Watford has already made four 3-pointers in six games of action, that might not be the perfect comp.</p><p>Now granted, this is just one game. Watford hasn’t played this well in any of the other games he’s played in so far this season, and is still working his way back from a hamstring injury he suffered in the preseason. He could fall back to earth in the 76ers’ next game against the Detroit Pistons and may be relegated to the bench regardless of when PG returns to the starting lineup in the future.
