Well, his underwhelming 2024-25 season notwithstanding, getting his contract off the books could help to ease the team’s financial burden as they look for ways to bring back Guerschon Yabusele.</p><p>With Eric Gordon already gone and Kelly Oubre also coming up in rumors as a player the 76ers could look to move in order to free up even more cap space, the 76ers have a pathway to opening up the full midlevel exception in order to retain both Yabusele and Quentin Grimes, but that can’t happen if Drummond is still on the books.</p><p>After adding a pair of interesting frontcourt players like Watford and Johni Broome, the 76ers are clearly preparing for life without Yabusele, but regardless of how the next few hours and days turn out, Morey’s rumored interest in moving off of Drummond shows that Philadelphia isn’t simply trying to bring back the same roster while hoping for health but instead attempting to identify areas where they can improve and using their resources to make that happen.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

While it is widely assumed that Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper will go off the board with the first two picks, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/editorials/philadelphia-76ers-nightmare-outcome-2025-nba-draft">76ers have multiple routes that they can go in</a> at No. 3.</p><p>Of course, Philadelphia’s current roster makes their situation even more interesting. With Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain all coming back from injury, this is a team that has a chance to compete in a banged-up Eastern Conference that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/pacers-news-shams-confirms-tyrese-haliburtons-achilles-tear-in-nba-finals-game-7">won’t have Jayson Tatum or Tyrese Haliburton due to injury</a> next season.</p><p>Ace Bailey and VJ Edgecombe are the two most common names to pop up at No. 3. While the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/2025-nba-mock-draft-4-0-latest-intel-kevin-durant-trade">76ers are leaning toward Edgecombe</a> after Bailey cancelled his workout with them, a shocking trade could be on the table according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.</p><p>“Ever since Bailey canceled his workout with the 76ers, the talk around the league has been centered around Philadelphia going with VJ Edgecombe or Tre Johnson,” Siegel wrote in his latest mock draft. “While the Sixers could still go with Bailey and have yet to rule him out as the potential third pick, Edgecombe makes the most sense given the better win-now path he presents.</p><p>“Even so, the 76ers have kept the door open for a trade with this third pick, as Morey is truly taking his time to make a decision and fielding all offers that come his way. There are some very intriguing selections coming near the top of the draft after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/mavericks-news-cooper-flagg-biggest-thing-2025-nba-draft">Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper go with the top two picks</a> on Wednesday night. That intrigue starts with the Philadelphia 76ers at No. 3.</p><p>For a large chunk of the college basketball season, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/sources-ace-bailey-calls-off-76ers-meeting-workout-before-nba-draft">Rutgers star Ace Bailey was viewed as the No. 3 prospect</a> in the draft. However, his pre-draft process hasn’t gone according to plan, leaving an unlikely scenario that lands him in Philly. Instead, Baylor’s VJ Edgecombe is the favorite to go at that spot after a stellar freshman season for Scott Drew and company.</p><p>However, Edgecombe recently had a private workout with the 76ers that didn’t go entirely smoothly on the court. Despite that, he still <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45559441/2025-nba-mock-draft-latest-first-second-round-predictions-all-59-picks" rel="noopener">impressed the team off the floor</a>, according to Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo of ESPN.</p><p>“While sources say Edgecombe appeared nervous during his private workout in Philadelphia and did not shoot the ball particularly well in an unnatural one-on-one setting, he made a strong impression in interviews and meetings, something the front office values more highly,” Givony and Woo wrote.</p><p>Edgecombe would likely have to play the three in Philadelphia while playing alongside Jared McCain and Tyrese Maxey, but he is no stranger to playing in small lineups. Baylor was exclusively a small-ball team last season, so Edgecombe will be comfortable in that kind of setting.</p><p>The top thing that pops off the screen with the former five-star recruit is his incredible athleticism. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-rumors-vj-edgecombe-2025-draft-floor-emerges">Edgecombe is a monster in transition</a> and is capable of highlight finishes around the basket at any time. His jump shot also showed strides last season, which should give 76ers fans optimism should they draft him.</p><p>Edgecombe’s handle and shot creation will be the biggest swing skill for his development, but at the very least he projects as a quality starter who can impact the game on both ends. Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>While the 2024-25 NBA season didn’t go the way many a fan of the Philadelphia 76ers may have hoped, one major bright spot in the otherwise darkness of the situation was the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/mavericks-news-mind-blowing-quentin-grimes-caleb-martin-stat-adds-salt-to-wound">play of Quentin Grimes</a>, who went from a solid mid-season acquisition to the team’s offensive engine down the stretch.</p><p>Suddenly, the two-way wing looked like a whole lot more than a depth piece on a good team and has been penciled in as a starter for next season, as a result – a role he may ultimately keep, depending on how the 2025 NBA Draft shakes out.</p><p>And yet, while Grimes becoming a player under Nick Nurse was a welcomed development, Daryl Morey will have to pay up to keep him in a red, white, and blue uniform.</p><p>Discussing the 76ers’ cap situation and how much Grimes could cost to retain, Jake Fischer of The Stein Line broke down Philadelphia’s <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/the-latest-on-jonathan-kuminga-much?publication_id=392205&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=email-share&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;triedRedirect=true" rel="noopener">immediate future</a>, which could be severely impacted by the contract choices of three players.</p><p>“Depending on how the Sixers’ roster looks after veterans Kelly Oubre Jr., Eric Gordon and Andre Drummond make binding decisions on their player options — and even with the Sixers hovering around that $207.8 million second apron threshold — we’re told that they would have the capacity to far exceed $7-to-9 million range in average annual salary that was frequently ballparked as the limits Dallas maintained last October when Grimes, then still a Maverick, was in talks for a rookie-scale contract extension that ultimately did not materialize,” Fisher wrote.</p><p>“Multiple numbers-crunchers we consulted indicated that Grimes, after his breakout scoring for the Sixers in March, does appear to be heading for a payday that starts north of the $14.1 million midlevel exception.”</p><p>Now granted, the 76ers can absolutely<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/76ers-news-quentin-grimes-other-sixers-sound-off-on-futures-in-philly"> sign restricted free agent Grimes</a> to whatever contract they’d like, regardless of the cap situation, as the team has his rights and can exceed the cap to keep the ascending two-way player around. Even with reports of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-rumors-prime-candidate-vj-edgecombe-emerges-no-3-draft-possibilities">76ers viewing others as prime candidates</a> for the selection, the latest from ClutchPoint’s NBA insider Brett Siegel gives insight into the situation ahead of the NBA Draft next Wednesday.</p><p>There’s no denying that Bailey’s pre-draft process has been atypical, as his lack of workouts has been talked about around the league. But even though his session with Philadelphia was dismissed by his side, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/siegels-scoop-how-kevin-durant-trade-saga-impacts-draft-free-agency-rumors">Bailey is “still very much in play to be the third pick” by the 76ers.</a></p><p>“Although it seems like the 18-year-old and his agent slighted the 76ers at the last minute, Bailey is still very much in play to be the third pick in this year’s draft, sources said,” Siegel wrote. “Philadelphia has yet to make a decision, and executive Daryl Morey has seen it all when it comes to the NBA Draft.”</p><p>“He is not afraid to play these sorts of games with agents and their players,” Siegel continued. “Which is why if he ultimately decides Bailey is the team’s missing piece, he will have no problem selecting him, regardless of whether Bailey’s camp wants him next to Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey.”</p><h2><b>76ers weighing options with No. 3 pick, with Ace Bailey likely available</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/753128610-ace-bailey-sitting-down.jpg"><figcaption>Tom Horak-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Despite the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/philadelphia-76ers-perfect-outcome-no-3-pick-2025-nba-draft">76ers having the third overall pick in the NBA Draft</a>, there has also been speculation about them moving up a spot to No. 2, which is owned by the San Antonio Spurs, in the likelihood of taking fellow Rutgers star Dylan Harper.</p><p>“Philadelphia has talked with multiple teams inquiring about the third pick in the draft, sources said,” Siegel wrote. “Along with their attempts to move up one spot to take Harper, the 76ers have seemed to indicate that they would move out of this third pick if the right deal presented itself.”</p><p>The latest ESPN mock draft labeled Baylor’s VJ Edgecombe as the <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45515479/2025-nba-mock-draft-59-picks-trade-talks-heat-30-teams" rel="noopener">“leader in the clubhouse”</a> in regards to the pick after a positive visit. Still, Siegel would find it important to mention that knowing how Morey has done business, every rumor “should be taken with a grain of salt.”</p><p>“Again, don’t forget this is Daryl Morey that we are talking about,” Siegel wrote. “Every offseason, a lot of games are played by the veteran executive, as he’s always attempting to get a leg up on the competition with any intel he can gather. They can take a talented prospect or <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/nba-rumors-76ers-engage-spurs-trade-no-2-pick">trade the No. 3 pick</a>. The trade option is on the table because the 76ers still have Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey. That trio only played 15 games together last season, but it seems they are giving this experiment one more season.</p><p>According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer at <i>The Stein Line</i>, the 76ers are content with bringing back their big three despite only appearing in 15 games together and having a 7-8 record. <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/the-latest-nba-draft-intel-kevin?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=166283635&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;r=39f60&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">They want to give this group one more shot together</a> to compete for an NBA championship and give the talent more time to gel because the sample size was so small.</p><p>The two insiders elaborated more on what Philadelphia plans to do: “By simply staying at No. 3, Philadelphia would introduce an $11.1 million salary onto its books for 2025-26. So the Sixers expect to operate near (or maybe even above) the second apron for this upcoming campaign, sources say, as they prepare to give Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey another shot to try to contend for a championship after they managed to appear in just 15 games (7-8) together this season.”</p><p>The big three of Embiid, George, and Maxey dealt with numerous injuries last season, and all three did not finish the season. It was not impressive, but with all three back next season, they think they can make it work after more time together and contend for a championship.</p><p>Philadelphia’s desire to remain in the top three is where the draft could get interesting, because Rutgers forward Ace Bailey <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/sources-ace-bailey-calls-off-76ers-meeting-workout-before-nba-draft">abruptly canceled his meeting and workout with the team</a>. If Bailey is no longer an option, the 76ers have a few options, but Baylor guard V.J. Edgecombe might be the frontrunner now.</p><p>Philadelphia is one of the weirder teams in the draft lottery because it genuinely has talent. That trio speaks for itself, but Jared McCain emerged as a reliable rookie before getting injured, and then Quentin Grimes exploded onto the scene while the team was dealing with injuries to its big three. Kelly Oubre Jr. is also worth mentioning as a key veteran.</p><p>Despite the roster being hamstrung money-wise, adding one of the best rookies at the top of the draft only helps the 76ers’ total potential next season, when they are going all-in for an NBA championship.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He’s set to visit with the Philadelphia 76ers soon, and one scout makes the case why some teams might want to ignore the rumored red flags.</p><p>Initial buzz around the 18-year-old forward is that he was <a href="https://hoopshype.com/rumor/3706568/" rel="noopener">not going to visit</a> with the 76ers before the NBA Draft, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer and HoopsHype. Rumors are that Bailey’s camp told him not to do private workouts. Teams around the league were befuddled by this, and some thought that Bailey’s camp believed he was guaranteed to be drafted to a certain franchise.</p><p>“Sources said he seemed unprepared to answer certain questions during team interviews at the combine. His camp also instructed him not to participate in private workouts, which left franchises wondering if the refusal is the result of a guarantee from another squad. But after initially refusing to visit the Sixers, Bailey is scheduled to work out for them this week.”</p><p>Another red flag that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/2025-nba-draft-big-board-4-0-ace-bailey-vj-edgecombe-questions-latest-intel">popped up for Ace Bailey</a> was that scouts claimed that he “makes the game more complicated than it needs to be.” One scout claims the former Rutgers forward has the <a href="https://hoopshype.com/rumor/3706570/" rel="noopener">potential of being a bust</a>, as Bailey is seemingly inconsistent, and that he interviewed poorly with several NBA executives.</p><p>“The Rutgers star makes the game more complicated than it needs to be, the type of player who will wow you one play and frustrate you the next. Sources even say he interviewed poorly with NBA executives at last month’s draft combine. He has the potential to become a bust. That fact has led some scouts to consider VJ Edgecombe and Tre Johnson better prospects. And it’s why Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach are regarded as solid trade-down options.”</p><p>However, one NBA scout believes that Ace Bailey’s red flags can <a href="https://hoopshype.com/rumor/3706569/" rel="noopener">be attributed to his age</a>. While there seems to be <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-rumors-prime-candidate-vj-edgecombe-emerges-no-3-draft-possibilities">options as the prime candidate for the 76ers</a>, the latest ESPN Mock Draft gives its pick and speaks on the ongoing debate between the two players.</p><p>After Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper, who seem likely to be the first two picks to the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs, though anything can change, it’s usually been Ace Bailey getting the nod at three.</p><p>The narrative has changed with Baylor’s VJ Edgecomb, who has reportedly made a “strong impression in a private workout,” did well in meetings, and is considered to be<a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45515479/2025-nba-mock-draft-59-picks-trade-talks-heat-30-teams" rel="noopener"> “the leader in the clubhouse”</a> as the third pick, per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.</p><p>“Edgecombe takes over this spot from Ace Bailey in ESPN’s mock draft after a positive visit to Philadelphia, where sources say he made a strong impression in a private workout as well as in meetings with the front office and ownership,” Givony wrote. “He appears to be “the leader in the clubhouse” currently, with Bailey losing momentum after refusing to visit, initially unsatisfied with his search for a proven pathway to development. However, Givony reports that the feedback about Bailey was “not all that positive” coming out of the NBA Combine, leading to the debate with Edgecombe, as has also been reported by ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel and Jake Fischer.</p><p>“Surrounding the hyper-explosive Edgecombe with prolific 3-point shooters such as Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain, Quentin Grimes, and Paul George could add another dimension to the Sixers’ offense,” Givony wrote. “Especially if the team buys into the development of his passing ability long-term.”</p><p>“Should Edgecombe not be selected here, most teams expect him to be drafted one pick later by Charlotte at No. 4,” Givony continued. “But he has also worked out in front of Washington in the predraft process, an indication there might be some trade scenarios in play with the Wizards moving up, potentially as high as No. 3.”</p><p>It remains to be seen what Philadelphia decides to do at No. 3 on June 25 when the NBA Draft begins, but all in all, the team is looking to improve after finishing with a 24-58 record, which put them 13th in the Eastern Conference.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Knueppel is a player who has been linked to them, and he may be one of the better shooters in the draft. Harper’s Rutgers teammate Ace Bailey has long been considered that guy, but Jake Fischer reported at The Stein Line this week that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-rumors-prime-candidate-vj-edgecombe-emerges-no-3-draft-possibilities">VJ Edgecombe could be Philadelphia’s preferred option</a> at No. 3. It’s not entirely clear what the front office plans to do with that pick. However, the latest rumors reveal a “prime candidate,” while also revealing two likely possibilities to play out.</p><p>Philly is deemed to either stick and pick, or trade back just a couple of slots, according to Jake Fischer at The Stein Line. Those <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/tons-of-new-around-the-nba-intel?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=165711005&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;r=39f60&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">are the two possibilities</a> rumored to come to fruition for the 76ers with the NBA Draft around the corner. Fischer reports that one Eastern Conference executive fully believes those are the two options at play for Philadelphia.</p><p>“The only thing that seems certain, according to our latest conversations on the matter, is that Philadelphia will be drafting a top prospect in the very early stages of draft proceedings on June 25. ‘They’re keeping the pick,’ said one Eastern Conference executive, ‘or they’re trading down a few slots.'”</p><p>So, it sounds like the 76ers plan to remain within the top five of the draft. If they stay at No. 3, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel previously reported on the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/2025-nba-mock-draft-76ers-ace-bailey-third-pick-dilemma">Ace Bailey debate</a> at that slot. While many still view Bailey as the third-best player in this draft, it’s not a sure thing. And now Fischer reports that Baylor’s VJ Edgecombe is that “prime candidate” to go third overall.</p><p>Fischer says Edgecombe, who is 19 years old, has visited with the 76ers. It’s said that Philly loves his work ethic and likes the idea of his defensive abilities pairing up with point guard Tyrese Maxey in the backcourt. Additionally, Edgecombe’s high ceiling is intriguing as well.</p><p>“The prime candidate at No. 3, at this juncture, appears to be Baylor freshman guard VJ Edgecombe, who sources say visited with the Sixers last week… Edgecombe is said to have impressed with his work ethic, personality, and interviews.</p><p>“He went to dinner with Morey and other 76ers higher-ups. Even Tyrese Maxey, sources say, flew in for the occasion. The Sixers are certainly intrigued by what type of defensive complement Edgecombe could provide their All-Star guard, sources say, in addition to his explosive upside on the offensive side of the ball.”</p><p>As of now, VJ Edgecombe is the only known prospect to visit with Philadelphia. However, there is speculation that Rutgers forward <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/2025-nba-mock-draft-76ers-ace-bailey-third-pick-dilemma">Ace Bailey is in line to visit the 76ers</a> at some point before the draft.</p><p>Edgecombe won the Big 12 Freshman of the Year Award for his efforts in the 2024-25 campaign. One of the ways it could get interesting fairly early on is at the third pick with the Philadelphia 76ers.</p><p>On NBA insider Matt Moore’s substack, Hardwood Paroxysm, he shared that the 76ers are sending mixed signals about what they <a href="https://hardwoodparoxysm.substack.com/p/free-agency-and-draft-rumors-panic?utm_campaign=email-half-post&amp;r=39f60&amp;utm_source=substack&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">want to do with the third pick</a>.</p><p>Ace Bailey is the projected pick at that spot, but the 76ers appear open to all options, including a trade. Moore said, “The Sixers are sending mixed signals about that third pick. I’ve heard they’re willing to move it for a star upgrade, want to keep it, and are fine with taking Ace Bailey. They are not fans and may take VJ Edgecombe instead.”</p><p>If the 76ers trade the pick, Moore mentioned that a team in the Western Conference that’s also not in contention is high on Bailey and might be willing to move with Philadelphia. However, a team that’s not a contender out west is not good enough to make a deal, but it opens the door for a three-team deal to emerge, most likely around Paul George if the 76ers are done with him.</p><p>The Philadelphia 76ers are in a strong position and one of the better positions in the lottery because they have more talent than most of the teams next to them. Their 2024 season went off the rails, mainly due to injuries, with Joel Embiid and Paul George being shut down for the entire season. Tyrese Maxey lasted the longest but was ultimately shut down for the rest of the season.</p><p>The 76ers’ assets make them <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-rumors-philly-draft-trade-strategy-reiterated-marc-stein">the team to watch in the draft, as to what moves could happen</a>. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-rumors-nets-bulls-heat-early-jonathan-kuminga-suitors">Nets have been involved in many trade rumors</a>, with the latest being their connection to Philadelphia 76ers standout Quentin Grimes.</p><p>The 25-year-old has been in the league for five seasons, but took flight with Philadelphia after being dealt from the Dallas Mavericks before the trade deadline. In Kevin Pelton’s ESPN ranking of the top free agents this offseason, Grimes was ranked No. 8, listing Brooklyn <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45320766/nba-free-agent-rankings-futures-lebron-turner-more-stars" rel="noopener">as a possible fit for the team.</a></p><p>“Could Grimes be a target for the Nets? At 25, he’s young enough to be part of the next competitive Brooklyn team,” Pelton wrote. “If not the Nets, Grimes’ market would either be at the non-taxpayer midlevel or via a sign-and-trade deal. For example, depending on how quickly the Charlotte Hornets want to improve, Grimes would be a huge upgrade.”</p><p>Last season in 28 games played with the 76ers, he averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from beyond the arc.</p><h2><b>Quentin Grimes could be the next destination for Quentin Grimes </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Quentin-Grimes-on-April-13-2025.jpg"><figcaption>Kyle Ross-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>With the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/brooklyn-nets/brooklyn-nets-4-best-options-at-no-8-pick-2025-nba-draft">Nets also having a top-10 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft</a>, the team also looks to add to the team through free agency or trade, with Grimes being a solid option after showing what he can do with Philadelphia. As Pelton mentions, Grimes did get a major opportunity with the 76ers, dealing with major injuries to their main three stars in Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George.</p><p>“Like Giddey, Grimes jumped after the All-Star break, in this case because of a trade to a Sixers team playing without stars Paul George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey due to injuries,” Pelton wrote.</p><p>“Philadelphia moving up to No. 3 in the draft lottery complicated the team’s ability to re-sign Grimes without pushing into the second apron,” Pelton continued. “Including options and non-guarantees, the 76ers will enter free agency around the luxury tax line before re-signing Grimes or fellow restricted free agent Guerschon Yabusele.”</p><p>Being a restricted free agent this offseason, it remains to be seen where Grimes will end up come next season, but there’s no doubt that the Houston product is ready to further improve after a breakout season. While the ping pong balls weren’t quite kind enough to land Cooper Flagg, they did give Daryl Morey a top-tier asset to work with this offseason.</p><p>Philadelphia surely has no plans of going into a rebuild. With Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain returning from injury next season, this squad is likely just a move or two away from being a contender in the Eastern Conference when healthy. As a result, Morey and the rest of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/76ers-news-daryl-morey-seems-end-speculation-plan-no-3-pick">76ers’ front office could look to move that pick</a> along with Paul George to upgrade the roster.</p><p>The 76ers will be looking at stars on the trade market, even though it’s unclear which ones may be available this offseason. However, Kevin Durant and Lauri Markkanen are two players that Philly <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45179882/2025-nba-mock-draft-projecting-all-59-picks-post-combine-cooper-flagg-dallas-mavericks" rel="noopener">could be targeting</a>, according to Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo of ESPN.</p><p>“Some teams expect the Sixers to be active in trade conversations, with names such as Kevin Durant (Phoenix) and Lauri Markkanen (Utah) as potential targets in packages that could include Paul George and the No. 3 pick,” Givony and Woo wrote. “Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey has made a career of being active and aggressive on the trade front, but historically, it’s rare to see a top-three pick being traded.”</p><p>Any trade involving the third pick would be a big risk for the 76ers to take, as it would be a bet on a roster that has not been able to stay healthy in recent years. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/76ers-news-paul-george-drops-scrambling-admission-joel-embiids-unavailability">Embiid specifically has seen the injury concerns</a> ratchet up over the last couple of seasons, so mortgaging the future to support this current version of the team is a big gamble.</p><p>On the other hand, adding another star such as Durant or Markkanen to a roster that already includes Embiid and a pair of promising young guards could easily make the 76ers into a contender in an Eastern Conference that will be in flux during the 2025-26 season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

They played a combined 112 games and the franchise finished with a miserable 24-58 record, its worst showing in almost a decade. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-tyrese-maxey-reveals-how-much-it-sucked-to-watch-joel-embiid-suffer">Cataclysmic injury misfortune</a> prevented fans from seeing the full product take shape on the court for a meaningful period of time.</p><p>However, if that star trio can somehow stay healthy for extended stretches, the Sixers could get a shot at a do-over. There is a possibility that almost the entire roster stays intact through this offseason following the latest reports regarding the organization’s summer plans. First off, veterans Kelly Oubre Jr., Eric Gordon and Andre Drummond are all <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/sunday-best-our-around-the-league" rel="noopener">expected to exercise the player options</a> in their contracts, according to insiders Jake Fischer and Marc Stein.</p><p>Oubre has solidified himself as a trusted starter in his two years in Philly, but both Gordon and Drummond are in the twilight of their respective NBA careers and played in less than half of the 2024-25 season. The former averaged 6.8 points per game while shooting 40.9 percent from behind the 3-point line (3.5 attempts per contest) and the latter posted 7.3 points and 7.8 rebounds.</p><p>The 76ers must search for a new identity after seeing last year’s blueprint quickly disintegrate. They must have a solid backup plan to overcome Embiid and George’s collectively sky-high injury risk. Doling out more opportunities to aging or declining players is not ideal.</p><p>Philadelphia might not have a choice, though. Unless president of basketball operations Daryl Morey can package Gordon and Drummond in a trade, which seems quite difficult, the team will have to fork over a combined $8.5 million in player options for the 2025-26 campaign. These financial developments could prevent the Sixers from fulfilling two key offseason objectives.</p><h2><b>Can the 76ers bring back these 2024-25 standouts?</b></h2><p>As Stein and Fischer note, the front office intends to re-sign breakout guard Quentin Grimes — acquired in a February <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/dallas-mavericks/mavericks-rumors-how-dallas-stiffed-quentin-grimes-76ers-trade">trade with the Dallas Mavericks</a> — and feel-good story Guerschon Yabusele. Grimes, who scored a stellar 21.9 points on 46.9 percent shooting in 28 games with Philly, is a restricted free agent. The team could match any offer he receives and automatically retain him.</p><p>Jared McCain flashed plenty of promise before suffering a torn meniscus in December, so Morey could be tempted to let Grimes go and allocate his limited funds elsewhere. But this franchise could use as much young talent as it can get its hands on right now. Retaining Yabusele also presents challenges.</p><p>Following an almost four and a half year hiatus (not counting preseason), the 2016 first-round draft pick reacquainted himself with the NBA. He averaged 11.0 points and 5.6 rebounds in 27.1 minutes per contest while shooting 38.0 percent from 3-point range. Perhaps most importantly, Yabusele ranked second on the team with 70 games played. This organization needs players it can rely on, and the French Forward proved himself last season.</p><p>Everything comes at a cost, though. The possibility of exceeding the second tax apron looms large, leaving the 76ers with much to weigh in the coming months. A huge triumph at <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-daryl-morey-drops-most-valuable-asset-declaration-cooper-flagg">the NBA Draft Lottery</a> on Monday night would surely alleviate much of their stress.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
