However, Gordon’s courageous move went for naught, as Denver ended up getting lit up in a 125-121 loss at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.</p><p>All eyes were on Gordon heading into Game 7. As <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-aaron-gordon-gets-hero-treatment-after-playing-through-injury-in-game-7">one of the most important players for the Nuggets</a>, Gordon’s status was a major talking point before Sunday’s contest. But if it was up to three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic, Gordon <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1924471102145016081" rel="noopener">should have just made the careful decision</a> to sit out rather than risk his body from aggravating his hamstring injury.</p><p>“I told him not to play,” Jokic said about Gordon during the postgame press conference after the loss to Oklahoma City. “You can injure yourself even worse. You can see that he was struggling, hard to move, this and that. But he went out there to fight with us. As for Jokic, he was not dealing with an injury, but struggled to find his rhythm against the Thunder’s tenacious defense. The Serbian scored 20 points on 5-for-9 shooting to go with nine rebounds and seven assists while turning the ball over five times. Jokic averaged 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds and 10.2 assists per game in the 2024-25 NBA regular season.</p><p>An early vacation for the Nuggets, however, means more time for Gordon to recover from his injury, which doesn’t seem serious enough to cause long-term concern for Denver.</p><p>Gordon concluded the 2024-25 NBA campaign with averages of 14.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists through 51 games. Nikola Jokic led the way with 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. He shot 5-of-9 from the field, including 1-of-2 from beyond the arc, and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. Christian Braun came next with 19 points and four rebounds, Jamal Murray had 13 points and three steals, while Gordon provided eight points and 11 rebounds.</p><p>With the loss, this marks the Nuggets’ second consecutive exit in the West Semis. It has been a while since Denver reached the mountaintop of NBA glory in 2023. While this group fought hard in the first few quarters, the Thunder’s relentless defense eventually became overwhelming, leading to a 125-93 blowout.</p><p>Denver fought valiantly throughout the series against this 68-win juggernaut. This group was coming off a physical seven-game war against the Los Angeles Clippers, and eventually, the wear and tear became too much. One of the drawbacks was that, in the second round, the Nuggets only got one day of rest between each contest.</p><p>Gordon, who was heroically playing on a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-aaron-gordon-makes-confession-playing-through-injury-game-7">Grade 2 hamstring strain</a> that he suffered at the end of Game 6, did not hold back on letting the league know that this type of scheduling should change. The star forward <a href="https://x.com/big_business_/status/1924244904114319558" rel="noopener">expressed these thoughts</a> in the postgame press conference.</p><p>“I would appreciate it if there were a couple of days in between games instead of every other day,” Gordon said. “The product of the game would be a lot better. You’ll see a higher level of basketball. J<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-jamal-murray-a-late-addition-game-6-injury-report-thunder">amal Murray was dealing with an illness</a>, Michael Porter Jr. was playing through a sprained left shoulder, and Aaron Gordon’s injury should’ve kept him out at least a month. But these guys played significant minutes on Sunday, not just because they’re gamers but because the franchise had no one else to replace their production.</p><p>There was friction within the Nuggets’ organization for most of the year, which led to the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-michael-malone-fired">firing of head coach Michael Malone</a> and general manager Calvin Booth late in the regular season. While both are to blame for the alleged poor culture built by their disagreements, it’s clear that Booth did a poor job of building out this roster’s depth. And it’s a shame that this happened during Nikola Jokic’s prime.</p><p>The superstar center is the best player of this generation and is putting together a string of historic seasons. This group looked exhausted and depleted by the end, and it’s due to the lack of depth they’ve had for years. The injury would need multiple weeks to recover, but the Nuggets forward pushed through to take part in Game 7. He <a href="https://x.com/BrendanVogt/status/1924241689754943744" rel="noopener">reflected on his performance</a> after the game, per team reporter Brendan Vogt.</p><p>“I was pretty sure I was going to play…I was doing everything I could possibly do to be out there fighting for my teammates,” Gordon said.</p><p>“Did you feel it out there?” the reporter asked.</p><p>“Not much. Just wish I played better,” he answered.</p><h2><b>How Aaron Gordon, Nuggets played against Thunder in Game 7</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Nuggets-news-Aaron-Gordon-makes-confession-after-playing-through-injury-in-Game-7-.jpg"><figcaption>Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Despite Aaron Gordon’s efforts to fight through the hamstring injury, it wasn’t enough as the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/thunder-news-okc-blasts-nuggets-game-7-timberwolves-wcf-showdown">Nuggets lost in a 125-93 blowout to the Thunder</a>.</p><p>Despite taking a 26-21 lead after the first quarter, the Nuggets gave up 39 points in the second quarter as they trailed 60-46 at halftime. Oklahoma City continued its momentum in the third quarter, scoring 37 points in the period as Denver ran out of gas in the end.</p><p>Only three players scored in double digits on Denver’s behalf. Nikola Jokic led the way with 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. He shot 5-for-9 from the field, including 1-for-2 from beyond the arc, and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. Christian Braun came next with 19 points and four rebounds, Jamal Murray had 13 points and three steals, while Gordon provided eight points and 11 rebounds.</p><p>With the loss, this marks the Nuggets’ second consecutive exit in the West Semis. It has been a while since Denver reached the mountaintop of NBA glory in 2023. And they have some areas to address in the offseason, especially when it comes to improving their supporting cast and contract situations with their star players.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
