After a hot start from the Nuggets, the Thunder stormed back to take a 74-64 lead in the third quarter.</p><p>The Nuggets unfortunately lost a key piece of their rotation early in this game. Starting forward Aaron Gordon left the game in the first quarter with right calf tightness and is <a href="https://x.com/nuggets/status/1898790381829140820" rel="noopener">questionable to return</a>, according to the team in a post on social media.</p><p>After the second half got going, Gordon’s status got even worse. He is still officially questionable but is <a href="https://x.com/Tjonesonthenba/status/1898803497816207720" rel="noopener">unlikely to return</a> according to Tony Jones of The Athletic.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nuggets-news-denver-gets-important-jamal-murray-aaron-injury-updates-for-bucks-game">Gordon has been dealing with a calf injury</a> or much of the season, and it appears that the same issue has popped up again as the Nuggets start to make their final push towards the playoffs. In order to reach their full potential, however, the Nuggets will need Gordon to be fully healthy and playing at 100% if they want to make a run at their second championship in three years.</p><p>Gordon’s calf kept him out for almost the entire month of November and forced him to miss some more time at the start of January. Now, it seems as if it has flared up again and it’s worth wondering if the Nuggets should consider resting him for an extended period to get him healthy for the postseason.</p><p>The Nuggets have had no shortage of injuries to deal with this season. Peyton Watson recently returned from a lengthy absence due to a knee injury and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nuggets-news-russell-westbrook-fans-tv-denver">Russell Westbrook is also back in the lineup</a> after sitting out with a hamstring injury.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nuggets-news-aaron-gordon-stephen-curry-suns-fans-shocked">Gordon has been the glue</a> that holds this Nuggets lineup together over the years. He is a perfect complement to Nikola Jokic due to his ability to cut to the basket and finish when he gets there, and he can also guard some bigger wings on the perimeter while Christian Braun handles the smaller guard assignments.</p><p>The Nuggets should be in the pole position to get the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference after the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/lakers-news-lebron-james-set-to-miss-1-2-weeks-groin-injury">injury to LeBron James</a> on Saturday night, but this injury could change that in a big way.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Nuggets are coming off of an impressive <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-aaron-gordon-powerful-take-nikola-jokic-19-assist-night-pacers">road win over the Indiana Pacers</a> on Monday which allowed them to put their recent home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the rearview mirror.</p><p>The Nuggets have a <a href="https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/referee/injury/Injury-Report_2025-02-27_12PM.pdf" rel="noopener">crowded injury report</a> for the Bucks game, with several key players listed, including Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray. The good news for Bucks fans is that both Gordon and Murray are listed as probable for the contest, Gordon due to right calf injury management and Murray with left knee inflammation. Both Gordon and Murray were able to play in Monday’s road win over the Pacers.</p><p>Joining them on the injury report is Peyton Watson, who will miss the game with a knee sprain.</p><p>Meanwhile, Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as probable for the Bucks due to a left calf strain.</p><p>The Nuggets have been on a roll as of late, with the loss Saturday vs the Lakers being the blip on the radar of what has otherwise been a dominant month of February. Nonetheless, there are only so many things an opposing team can do to slow down Jokic. On Monday night, Jokic was back to his usual dominant ways as he tallied 18 points, nine rebounds, and 19 assists in a 125-116 victory for the Nuggets over the Indiana Pacers.</p><p>Jokic remains the undisputed best player in the league, and the fact that the Lakers had to send multiple bodies at him away from the ball just to push him farther away from the basket is the biggest evidence proving as such. This time against the Pacers, the Nuggets maintained much better spacing, with Aaron Gordon <a href="https://x.com/katywinge/status/1894216258905690414" rel="noopener">feasting on the attention</a> Jokic was drawing to lead the team in scoring with 25 points.</p><p>“He’s just so impressive, man. The way that he’s able to just be such a floor general at 7’2″? There’s not enough words to describe how good he is at basketball and how great he is at this game. As mentioned before, the Nuggets are NBA champions. The championship mentality is to focus on yourself as opposed to others. However, the new-look Lakers that Gordon mentioned have a new look, to say the least.</p><p>Bringing in Doncic is a generational move. Even though the Lakers had to trade Anthony Davis away in the process, securing a generational star is unheard of. Doncic and LeBron James share the same court and vision, which is a scary sight for many teams. The former MVP is having another MVP-worthy season this year. He’s put Denver on his back, and no one seems to have an answer to stop him.</p><h2><b>Aaron Gordon and the Nuggets aren’t concerned about the Lakers</b></h2><p>With Gordon’s comments creating skepticism around the Lakers, it makes sense. There’s been a small sample size with Doncic and James. Both players have been injured and have played only one game together since the trade. Either way, the potential is too great to dismiss what could happen.</p><p>Still, there’s a good amount of distance between the Nuggets and the Lakers. For instance, Denver is third in the Western Conference, while Los Angeles is fifth. They are <a href="https://www.nba.com/standings" rel="noopener">currently separated by four wins</a>. They seem to be peaking at the right time. Other guys like Christian Braun, Jamal Murray, and even Gordon himself have stepped up in a big way. After it seemed like Michael Malone and company were clicking after Aaron Gordon returned from his calf injury, the Nuggets have now lost three games in a row after a 122-112 defeat at the hands of the New York Knicks on Wednesday night in the Big Apple.</p><p>For Wednesday’s game, Malone made a massive change to the starting lineup. He inserted Gordon back into the starting five as he comes off of his minutes restriction and moved Christian Braun to the bench for the first time this season. After the game, Braun talked about <a href="https://x.com/BennettDurando/status/1884813950081962227" rel="noopener">wanting to get that starting spot back</a>, via Bennett Durando of The Denver Post.</p><p>“Obviously I took a lot of pride in having that spot, trying to win that spot,” Braun said, per Durando. “And I’m gonna work to try to get it back. That’s my job. … But whether I’m coming off the bench or starting I’m very grateful for every opportunity that I get.”</p><p>Braun started next to Gordon earlier in the season, but <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-russell-westbrook-sends-powerful-message-denver-accepting">Russell Westbrook has been playing some very good basketball</a> since being inserted into the starting five when Gordon got hurt. As a result, it makes sense that Malone would want to keep Westbrook in the lineup due to his great chemistry with Nikola Jokic.</p><h2><b>Michael Malone has difficult decision in Nuggets’ starting </b><b>lineup</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Michael-Malone_3ace0f.jpg"><figcaption>Brad Penner-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Due to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-michael-malone-cryptic-aaron-gordon-injury-update-after-suns-loss">Aaron Gordon’s calf injury</a> this season, the Nuggets have arrived at a place where they have six players who are worthy of starting on a team that is trying to snap out of a slump.</p><p>Christian Braun amps up the pace of play for the Nuggets and is one of their best perimeter defenders. Russell Westbrook is an elite cutter and passer, and he and Nikola Jokic play extremely well together. Gordon gives the Nuggets some more size and physicality on the inside while being one of their more versatile offensive players as a screener, cutter, finisher and someone who can attack mismatches.</p><p>When Gordon came back from his injury, Malone had him coming off the bench as he played through his minutes restriction. Now, it is Braun who has gone to the bench. That formula didn’t pay off with a win against the Knicks, although that can be attributed to foul trouble on Jokic more than anything. Gordon played 30 minutes and scored 15 points on 6-for-7 shooting while Braun played 29 minutes and scored 13 points, so there wasn’t a huge difference in playing time. Westbrook played 37 minutes in the loss, so he seems to be in Malone’s good graces at the moment.</p><p>Expect Malone to ride with this version of the lineup for at least a few games to see if it can start clicking. Nikola Jokic is probable due to his recent illness, but Jamal Murray is also questionable due to a lingering left knee issue. Both played in the team’s most recent game, a 124-105 win over the Brooklyn Nets, though Murray was limited to just 16 minutes.</p><p>In the nine games since Gordon’s injury, the Nuggets have gone 6-3 without him. Russell Westbrook has been the biggest beneficiary of his absence and has thrived in the starting lineup. Since Gordon’s injury, Westbrook has averaged 15.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game. He has two triple-doubles in that time but is likely to revert back to the bench if Gordon is activated.</p><p>With Westbrook in the starting lineup, Michael Porter Jr. has shifted to power forward, and Christian Braun has slotted down to small forward.
