However, it didn’t work out for Nesmith with the Celtics, as he was unable to carve out a solid role behind or even alongside Jayson Tatum and company. The Celtics needed a jolt, especially after being booed by their home crowd, and their main man came to play. Alas, the Pacers had built up such a huge first-half advantage that the Celtics were unable to finish the comeback.</p><p>Jayson Tatum had 28 points in the second half, ending up with 41 on the night, as he tried to put the Celtics on his back after a putrid start to the game. Still, the Celtics came up short, losing to the Pacers 117-112, with Aaron Nesmith having the last laugh.</p><p>Nesmith has stepped up in recent games for the Pacers. The Pacers have mostly deployed him in the starting lineup in recent games, and he has repaid their faith in him. On the night, Nesmith had 15 points, six boards, and two steals, and most importantly, he took the win. Celtics fans certainly hope so. Or at least he can take a significant leap in his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/players/aaron-nesmith/a9ba0974" rel="noopener">shooting averages</a> from his rookie season.</p><p>While Nesmith was labeled as the best shooter from his class coming out of the 2020 NBA Draft, he largely struggled and was unable to show his potential as a three-point threat. Given his lack of playing time at 14.5 minutes per game, he just shot 37.0 percent from deep on a meager 2.3 attempts per game.</p><p>If he’s able to improve those numbers alone, there is no doubt he could find a bigger role with the Celtics in 2021-22, now under head coach Ime Udoka.</p><p>For now, though, he can bask on the glory of surpassing and breaking the crazy record of the Celtics’ best player in Jayson Tatum.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Athletes can take care of the family members who’ve helped them along the way, and it’s the beginning of a long journey that will create memories that will last a lifetime. In an exclusive interview with ClutchPoints, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/boston-celtics/news" rel="noopener">Boston Celtics</a> guard Aaron Nesmith shared a few memories from his first year in the NBA, on Dwyane Wade and many other topics.</p><p>“It’s a surreal moment. A dream come true. A lot of nerves. You don’t know when you’re getting picked till it happens. So being able to enjoy that moment with my family was something that I’ll remember forever,” Aaron Nesmith told <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twq4p0SSYDI" rel="noopener">ClutchPoints</a> when asked about his draft night.</p><p>The Celtics selected Nesmith with the No. 14 pick in the 2020 draft. After playing two seasons at Vanderbilt, Nesmith decided to declare for the draft. In his final college season, he averaged 23 points on 51% shooting from the field and 52% from the 3-point line.</p><p>That year Aaron Nesmith played 14 games, and his season was cut short due to a stress fracture in his right foot. Knowing the injury could potentially hurt his draft stock, he still decided to enter the rookie selection.</p><p>“I did not expect the Celtics to pick me right there,” Nesmith explained. “I thought I was going somewhere else but, everything happens for a reason. I’m glad to be here. I think it was the right decision for the Celtics, so I’m very happy.”</p><h2><b>Aaron Nesmith Talks Dwyane Wade, Khris Middleton, Jimmy Butler</b></h2><p>Making it to the NBA also means the players a young pro once idolized would now become peers. Going to battle with the world’s very best is a nightly occurrence. The challenge of defeating your favorite players is now a reality.</p><p>“My favorite player growing up was Dwyane Wade, but he retired before I got here. Then my next favorite player was Khris Middleton just because he went to my high school. So, I can’t say that it changed,” Nesmith added.</p><p>Middleton is like a big brother to Nesmith. He’s somebody he turns to for advice on and off the court. They have a tight bond that goes deeper than basketball, but rookies don’t always know their favorite players personally.</p><p>Players are usually just fans, and they have to find the balance between admiration and respect. All rookies face this crossroad in their careers, and they all deal with it differently. Aaron Nesmith is finding his own way.</p><p>“Another person I liked was Jimmy Butler growing up. He solidified that when we played him. The way that he plays. The way he talks to his teammates. The way he’s always engaged. He seems like a very good player and someone that you could watch and learn a lot from,” Nesmith said.</p><h2><b>Nesmith Gets Real On Summer League</b></h2><p>Players have to decide what type of player they want to become in the NBA. It usually starts during Las Vegas NBA Summer League before the regular season begins. Unfortunately, COVID-19 stripped the 2020 draft class of this much-needed time.</p><p>There was no adjustment period for the incoming group. There was very little time to build trust on and off the court during the season. Aaron Nesmith and other rookies had to learn on the fly. Except for the rookies with a ton of opportunities, it was a difficult transition.</p><p>Now that the world is starting to become semi-normal, summer league returned. Many players, including Nesmith, decided to participate in the event they missed out on as rookies. It’s a decision the Celtics youngster feels was worth it.</p><p>“I was able to kind of showcase what I’ve been working on this summer and some things that I know I’m capable of doing, being able to put the ball on the floor more and becoming a better all-around basketball player,” Nesmith explained. “So from that standpoint of being comfortable playing with better pace and more confidence. Hopefully, I can translate that into training camp and then from training camp to the regular season, and have a great season.”</p><p>Aaron Nesmith hopes to raise his production this 2021-22 season, and having a mentor, summer league, and training camp could be a considerable aid. Success in their careers started quickly. If it wasn’t for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, they might even be NBA champions by now.</p><p>In an appearance on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twq4p0SSYDI">ClutchPoints’ YouTube series “Year 1,”</a> second-year shooting guard Aaron Nesmith (21) discussed playing with the tandem.</p><p>“It’s a great opportunity to be able to learn from guys like them. Guys who have been there, done that, and made it to multiple Eastern Conference Finals at a very young age,” Nesmith continued. “They’re very talented guys…The way they take care of their body, and then their work ethic, being able to learn from those guys, has been a huge learning curve, [and] an advantage for me.”</p><p>In this year’s NBA Summer League, Nesmith was impressive, leading the Celtics with <a href="https://basketball.realgm.com/player/Aaron-Nesmith/Summary/132149">17.4 points</a> and 6.2 rebounds per game.</p><p>Nesmith is a player whom Celtics fans should be excited to have on their squad. If his progression from Summer League translates to the regular season, he could be a pivotal piece to another championship run.</p><p>The future is bright for the Celtics, and the rest of the league knows it. Staying together and building chemistry almost guarantee a future opportunity to be in the Finals.</p><p>“We don’t talk about the potential we have or staying together. We’re focused on one year at a time. One game at a time… We don’t think about too much in the future, just trying to win every single day,” Nesmith told ClutchPoints.</p><p>In Nesmith’s rookie season, he played 14.5 minutes while averaging 4.7 points per game as a reserve. In his second season, you can expect a jump in his production. Stepping on the floor with players you’ve watched on TV growing up is a surreal feeling. Creating your very first poster is something high flyers can’t wait to do. In an exclusive interview with ClutchPoints, Boston Celtics second-year guard Aaron Nesmith talked about his welcome to the NBA moment.</p><p>“I think it was the preseason, we played the Nets, and it was Jeff Green,” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twq4p0SSYDI">Nesmith continued</a>. “I was on the opposite baseline. He blew by somebody and had a wide-open baseline dunk. I thought Jeff Green didn’t really have bounce like he used to anymore. So I’m thinking I’m going to go up, block him, and make a highlight play. He jumped, and he kept rising, and I thought, oh man. It was definitely my Welcome to the League moment.”</p><p>It wasn’t exactly the poster a rookie hopes for, but it’s bound to happen in the NBA. Later on, in that same game, the Celtics youngster nearly put Brooklyn Nets forward Taurean Prince on a poster. He got fouled and missed the flush, but it wouldn’t be the last opportunity he gets.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Nesmith is working hard to reach his full potential, and the Celtics have a competitor in this prospect. Two qualities you can’t teach young players. Either you do it, or you don’t.</p><p>The Celtics <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/celtics-news-jayson-tatums-offseason-transformation-should-scare-rest-of-nba/">already have their stars</a>, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, but a third wheel is needed to be a real contender.
