He would them be acquired via the buyout market from the Knicks where the numbers went down due to the scoring volume of the team, averaging 6.5 points.</p><p>Despite likely having interest around the league, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-why-kevin-love-had-no-doubt-about-re-signing-with-miami">Burks chose Miami as he talked</a> about admiring Heat Culture “from afar” and a conversation with Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra being the “real reason” he picked this destination.</p><p>“I just admired the Heat Culture from afar and I talked to Spo [Spoelstra] before I made my decision, we had a great conversation and I think that’s the real reason I picked the team,” Burks said. “I think I just I could fit in, I think what I bring I could just be a role player and help out and help winning.”</p><h2><b>How Burks can complement the Heat’s “Big Three”</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Alec-Burks-making-a-basket-for-the-Knicks-in-the-their-Game-7-loss-to-the-Pacers-in-the-second-round-of-the-playoffs.jpg"><figcaption>Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Burks signed a veteran minimum contract lasting one year and worth $3.3 million as he looks to add depth to the backcourt that looks to be shallow on the bench. Besides helping out players like Terry Rozier, the key will be complementing the current <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-bam-adebayos-message-miami-contract-extension">“Big three” of the Heat</a> in Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro who Burks said to ClutchPoints that they are all “elite” and can easily <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1810322971833282855" rel="noopener">“play off them.”</a></p><p>“Just, I think I can space the floor, all three of them are very elite,” Burks said of the featured <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-heat-offer-caleb-martin-turned-down-signing-76ers">three players on the Heat</a>. “So I think I just play my role and help out anyway I can, just play off them.”</p><p>“My versatility, that I can play a couple of positions and be able to shoot, space the floor for other guys to get into the paint and those two skills will help out a lot,” Burks continued about what his skillset can add to Miami.</p><h2><b>Burks on always staying ready and bouncing around the league</b></h2><p>As mentioned before, the opportunity with the Knicks was limiting, but he would have some crucial performances for them off the bench during the NBA Playoffs when the injuries were stacking against them. He averaged close to 15 points per game in the Eastern Conference semifinals round against the Indiana Pacers where in Game 7, he scored 26 points.</p><p>Even with the limitations on the Knicks, it was not something he hasn’t dealt with it before as it is crucial to always stay ready and it’s important to “be professional” which he’s looking to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-why-miamis-rookies-are-ready-to-make-some-noise-in-2024-25">take with the Heat.</a></p><p>“Just be professional it’s not really a balance,” Burks said. “I’ve been in the situation before so just be ready, be professional You never know what’s gonna happen in the game so just always got to be ready. So that’s why I pride myself me being always ready.”</p><p>Even besides the Knicks and Pistons last season, Burks has been on five other teams, mostly with the Utah Jazz for the first seven and a half years as he was traded mid-season to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He would be candid in his traveling from team and team as being “tough” for his family, but says it’s “the business sometimes.”</p><p>“I think that kind of comes with the game, the business sometimes,” Burks said. “No, I haven’t moved around a few times, not by choice, but just have because that’s the NBA sometimes, but it’s always kind of tough to move, especially with my family, my kids, but you know, sometimes you got to do it for the right situation.”</p><p>At any rate, Burks is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-heat-added-to-list-of-lauri-markkanen-trade-suitors">looking to help the Heat improve</a> after last season where they went 46-36 and finished at the eighth seed for the second straight season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grading-knicks-pistons-trade-deadline-blockbuster-bojan-bogdanovic-alec-burks">last Thursday’s trade</a> that landed Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks in New York should result in a Knicks team that is better prepared to tread water before their stars return. </p><h2><b>Injuries adding up for Knicks</b></h2><p>The Knicks are pretty banged up at the moment. Mitchell Robinson, who underwent ankle surgery in December, was the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-must-pivot-quickly-with-mitchell-robinson-out-for-season" rel="noopener">first major injury of the year</a>. Julius Randle suffered a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-julius-randle-injury-timeline-new-york" rel="noopener">shoulder injury</a> (non-shooting arm) in Miami in late January, and he will remain out until at least after the All-Star break.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-og-anunoby-out-for-at-least-3-weeks-after-elbow-surgery" rel="noopener">OG Anunoby will be out</a> for at least three weeks after recently undergoing a minor procedure to remove a loose bone fragment. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-isaiah-hartenstein-ruled-out-mavericks-game-concerning-injury" rel="noopener">Isaiah Hartenstein has been out</a> for two games with a strained Achilles that also cost him two games in January. And Jalen Brunson recently missed a game with an ankle injury — although he returned to action in a loss to the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night.</p><h2><b>Tom Thibodeau to blame?</b></h2><p>Head coach Tom Thibodeau has a reputation for leaning on his star players a little too much, and it’s assumed that it results in injuries. That’s probably overblown, as any coach in their right mind wants their superstars on the floor as much as possible. However, the narrative isn’t entirely false. </p><p>Coach Thibodeau inarguably leaves stars in too long after a game is already decided. And that absolutely impacts injuries. For example, Randle’s injury came with 4:27 remaining in the fourth quarter andwith  New York ahead by a comfortable margin (115-98). </p><p>Granted, 17 points is not a “safe” lead in the modern NBA. But it is squarely the coach’s responsibility to understand the pace of the game and manage his or her players accordingly. And Thibodeau is the last coach anyone expects to pull players when a game is ostensibly in hand.</p><p>But ultimately, Thibodeau is a brilliant coach, and you have to take the good with the bad. End of story. </p><h2><b>Trade deadline deal should alleviate strain on Knicks’ role players</b> </h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Bojan_Bogdanovic_looking_fierce.webp"><figcaption>John Jones-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Fortunately, the Knicks’ front office pivoted perfectly prior to the trade deadline, adding key depth to a team badly in need of it. </p><p>Prior to the trade (and including Saturday’s game against the Pacers), New York was leaning heavily on a select few players. In particular, Josh Hart and Precious Achiuwa were averaging more than 38 and 40 minutes over the last five games, respectively. That’s not sustainable, at least not if they want to win.</p><p>By adding Bogdanovic and Burks — and not sending out any rotation pieces — the Knicks’ just added important reinforcements that should help simply by adding healthy, talented bodies. </p><p>Once healthy, New York now boasts a minimum of nine players who should be in the team’s  rotation: Brunson, Donte DiVincenzo, Anunoby, Randle, Hartenstein, Robinson, Bogdanovic, Burks, and Hart. And that does not include Miles McBride, Achiuwa or Jericho Sims. </p><p>And if New York gets entirely healthy before to the playoffs, look out. Since the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/what-knicks-getting-og-anunoby-trade-what-comes-next" rel="noopener">December 30 Anunoby trade, </a>the Knicks have been a defensive behemoth, holding teams to less than 104 points per game. That’s the team that Knicks’ fans are hoping to see in the stretch run of this season.</p><p>Hopefully, Bogdanovic and Burks can steady the ship until everyone returns. And once that happens, New York is even deeper and more difficult to prepare for.</p><h2>Health is still a hurdle, even after the trade</h2><p>Even with Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks in tow, the Knicks must still hope for health. Julius Randle must return as the player he was in January. OG Anunoby must do the same. And everyone else must remain healthy. But that’s not all that has to go right. The Knicks must also win games, and do so against some good competition. The Knicks currently have the <a href="https://www.tankathon.com/remaining_schedule_strength" rel="noopener">13th-hardest remaining schedule</a>, according to Tankathon. They have two games remaining against the Boston Celtics, one against the Cleveland Cavaliers, one against the Denver Nuggets, and one against the Oklahoma City Thunder. </p><p>Fortunately, the Knicks’ post-All-Star break schedule is spread out, meaning they can allow their players a requisite amount of time to heal up without hurting their playoff seeding too badly — although getting healthy sooner than later is ideal.</p><h2>Possible silver linings for Knicks</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Alec_Burks_shooting_the_ball.webp"><figcaption>John Jones-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>One thing that could realistically swing the Knicks’ fortunes is Robinson returning from injury. The Knicks have the seventh-best defensive rating in the league, giving up 112.7 points per 100 possessions. Imagine adding the Blockness Monster to the fray? New York hasn’t had Robinson available since the Anunoby trade, and the two of them together could easily anchor one of the best defenses in the league. </p><p>Robinson is a legitimate defensive presence. He was averaging a career-worst 1.3 blocks per game prior to injuring his ankle in December, but that’s probably because opponents firmly understand that it’s unwise to challenge him. He is also an offensive rebounding machine, averaging a league-best 5.3 offensive rebounds per game.</p><p>Robinson is scheduled to return to on-court activities following the All-Star break. And while there is currently no official timeline on an actual return to the Knicks’ line-up, it is widely expected to happen <i>before</i> the playoffs.</p><p>The All-Star break is just around the corner, and New York only has two games remaining before it. While every game is important, the Knicks would be well-served to allow their team a little extra time for some much deserved rest and relaxation.</p><p>But after the break, the Knicks should hope their players are healthy and ready to roll. If they are, the sky is the limit. If they are not, this Cinderella season could quickly turn into a nightmare.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

After strengthening their defense with the trade for OG Anunoby in December, the Knicks added more offensive firepower at the deadline in acquiring Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks from the Detroit Pistons. The Knicks have vaulted into the top echelon of the Eastern Conference and are looking to contend this season. There’s obviously no guarantee that those second round picks ever amount to anything, but second rounders have become a little more valuable in recent years.</p><p>Second round picks are good, cap friendly way to develop younger players and stash them in the G League. For a team like the Pistons, having more draft capital is a good thing.</p><p>On the Knicks side of things, they get two veteran wing players capable of putting up points. While the Knicks lost Quentin Grimes in the trade, this move can pay off in a big way. Bogdanovic had been averaging 20.2 points per game while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 41.5 percent from three point range. Burks had been averaging 12.6 points and shooting 40.1 percent from three point range.</p><p>The Knicks are currently 33-19 and in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Las Vegas certainly seems to think so, as the latest Knicks updated NBA Finals odds after the deal makes it clear the oddsmakers think the team is now more of a title contender than before.</p><p>After the Knicks NBA trade deadline move for Bogdanovic and Burks, New York went from +2200 to <a href="https://sportsbook.fanduel.com/navigation/nba?tab=nba-finals" rel="noopener">win the NBA Finals</a> to +1600 odds, according to FanDuel.</p><p>On Thursday, the day of the deadline, the Knicks sent Quentin Grimes, Evan Fournier, Malachi Flynn, Ryan Arcidiacono, and two second-round picks to the Pistons for Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks.</p><p>The reason the Knicks updated NBA Finals odds dropped so much is that this is a great deal for New York. The team didn’t give up much at all, with Grimes at 20.2 minutes per game the biggest piece. What they got back is a fine depth player in Burks and a big-bodied shooter and scorer in Bogdanovic who should immediately become a key part of the rotation.</p><p>While this Knicks trade made the team better for sure, it didn’t necessarily get the team to where it needs to be to win a championship, at least according to the odds.</p><p>At +1600, the Knicks are now tied with the Phoenix Suns as the team with the fifth-best odds to win it all. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-bojan-bogdanovic-alec-burks-pistons-trade-deadline-deal" rel="noopener">Pistons</a> also made a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, acquiring Danuel House and a 2024 second-round pick.</p><p>With the players the Pistons have brought in, it makes sense to waive a veteran like Joe Harris, who has only played 16 games, averaging 2.4 points, 0.8. rebounds and 0.6 assists in those games this season for the Pistons.</p><p>Harris is a veteran and could possibly now land with a team that is trying to win, rather than a rebuilding team like the Pistons this season. It will be interesting to see where he lands, and if he can catch on in a contending team’s rotation.</p><p>The Pistons are clearly trying to make the most of this deadline. The deal with the Knicks makes a lot of sense, acquiring a young player who has potential to be a good three-and-d player like Quentin Grimes fits the direction of the team. The same goes for getting some second-round picks.</p><p>As the Pistons sit with the worst record in the NBA, they are trying to acquire some young talent and assets to build for the future. Killian Hayes still is on the roster and is someone who could be moved before the NBA Trade Deadline.
