As group play continues, France’s national team is one of the favorites. The team is headlined by <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/olympics/olympics-news-france-players-effort-vs-usa-has-nba-fans-making-urgent-requests">Olympic standout Guerschon Yabusele</a>, as well as young talent like Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr. However, the Washington Wizards center’s tournament is over.</p><p>Sarr and France played against Slovenia on Tuesday, taking on one of the biggest stars in the tournament in Luka Doncic. The Wizards center left the game with a lower body injury and did not return to the floor. According to The Athletic’s Josh Robbins, Sarr’s <a href="https://x.com/JoshuaBRobbins/status/1962944181560561850" rel="noopener">tournament is over</a>. Fortunately, Washington does not think that he is going to miss the start of the NBA’s regular season.</p><p>“Although Alex Sarr will miss the remainder of the EuroBasket tournament because of a left calf injury, Wizards officials expect that he’ll be ready for the start of the season, a team source said. The injury will not require surgery,” Robbins said.</p><p>That news is a relief for Wizards fans everywhere. Sarr settled in during the second half of his rookie season and finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting behind Risacher, Stephon Castle, and Jaylen Wells. However, any and all injuries are reason for concern for a player of his stature. Washington is unlikely to rush his recovery as the season looms on the horizon.</p><p>Sarr is an important player, both for France’s national team and the Wizards. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/washington-wizards/washington-wizards-2025-nba-draft-grades">Washington added even more young talent in this year’s draft</a> and are an intriguing team heading into next season. However, a lot of their plans rely on Sarr developing into a star down low comparable to fellow Frenchman Victor Wembanyama. His injury throws a wrench in that process for now.</p><p>Sarr is going to stay with his team and encourage Yabusele and the others as EuroBasket continues. No. 2 overall pick <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/wizards-news-alex-sarr-bilal-coulibaly-bub-carrington-all-star-weekend-2">Alex Sarr and No. 14 pick Bub Carrington</a> received All-Rookie first team and second team honors, respectively.</p><p>Sarr and Carrington are the first pair of Wizards <a href="https://x.com/WizPRStats/status/1924898415579717973" rel="noopener">teammates to be named</a> All-Rookie at the same time since Gus Johnson and Rod Thorn in the 1963-64 campaign, via the team’s PR. Sarr is also the first Wizard to make the first team since Bradley Beal in 2012-13.</p><p>The full 2024-25 All-Rookie <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1924888212352467194" rel="noopener">list is below</a>, via ESPN’s Shams Charania:</p><p>“First team: Stephon Castle, Zaccharie Risacher, Jaylen Wells, Zach Edey, Alex Sarr</p><p>Second team: Matas Buzelis, Bub Carrington, Donovan Clingan, Kel’el Ware, Yves Missi.”</p><p>A global <a href="https://x.com/NBAPR/status/1924888168509141258" rel="noopener">media panel of 100 voters</a> selected the teams, via NBA Communications. First place votes were worth two points, and second place votes were worth one. Sarr finished with 150 points, 12 more than Ware for the final first team spot. Carrington had 53 points, one more than Utah Jazz guard Isaiah Collier for the final second team spot. Meanwhile, Washington guard Kyshawn George got one second place vote.</p><p>Sarr is the first teenager in NBA history to make 100-plus threes and block 100-plus shots in a season, while Carrington played all 82 games and made a record amount of threes for Wizards rookies in a season (121). They are also the first team to have three rookies (Sarr, Carrington, George) make 100-plus threes in one campaign, and they’re the only squad besides the Memphis Grizzlies (Wells, Edey) to have two All-Rookie players this year.</p><p>Between Bilal Coulibaly, Sarr, Carrington, George, AJ Johnson, and whoever they draft at Nos. 6 and 18 this summer, the Wizards will have one of the deepest stashes of young talent in the NBA. They might not have a star yet, but they’re setting a foundation in the meantime.</p><p>Who would be good prospects to add to it this summer?</p><h2><b>Wizards’ Bub Carrington campaigns for ‘Baltimore buddy’ Derik Queen</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Marylands-Derik-Queen.jpg"><figcaption>Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Unless it trades up, Washington won’t get star prospects Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper, or Ace Bailey. However, players like Texas guard Tre Johnson, Oklahoma guard Jeremiah Fears, and Maryland big man Derik Queen are contenders at No. 6.</p><p>Coincidentally, Queen grew up with Carrington in Baltimore. Me and Derik are really close.”</p><p>“He’s goofy as I don’t know what…Obviously, a h*ll of a basketball player, really good,” he continued.</p><p>Queen received Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Big Ten All-Freshman Team, and first-team All-Big Ten honors after averaging 16.5 points on 52.6 percent shooting (20 percent 3 PT) with nine rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals in 30.4 minutes. The 6-foot-10-inch, 246-pounder also hit a game-winning fadeaway jumper at the buzzer in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Colorado. The shot brought the score to 72-71, so the Terrapins would’ve lost had he missed.</p><p>Queen profiles as a Brad Miller/Zach Randolph type <a href="https://www.nbadraft.net/players/derik-queen/" rel="noopener">who is crafty in the post</a> and has the potential to defend all positions at the next level, via NBADraft.net. However, the 20-year-old is inconsistent defensively and doesn’t yet have a reliable three-point shot. He could be a good compliment to Sarr in the frontcourt, who is a stretch big that already excels as a shot blocker.</p><p>Floor spacing is paramount in this era of positionless basketball, which means that competent three-point shooting is necessary for any player who isn’t a defensive anchor, a la Rudy Gobert. Still, Sarr’s shot blocking and three-point shooting could cover up Queen’s weaknesses and magnify his excellence in the paint and midrange.</p><p>Wizards general manager Will Dawkins’ selections on June 25 will give further insight into his preferred type of player. So far, the former Oklahoma City Thunder executive has built the young core around two-way/“three-and-D” types.</p><p>With that being said, Dawkins and team President Michael Winger have only been with the organization since 2023. It’s still early in the rebuilding process, and they likely aren’t married to one type of playing style.</p><p>Regardless, if they do take Queen, they’ll have a happy camper in Carrington.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

However, the No. 2 overall pick was one of the best players in the 2024 draft class, even though NBA awards voters didn’t give him credit.</p><p>Sarr was left off the 2024-25 <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/spurs-stephon-castle-believes-rookie-year-locked-up">Rookie of the Year ballot in favor of Stephon Castle</a>, Zaccharie Risacher, and Jaylen Wells. Castle is the <a href="https://www.foxsports.com/articles/nba/2024-25-nba-rookie-of-the-year-odds-and-favorites" rel="noopener">favorite to win</a>, as he should be, via FOX Sports. The San Antonio Spurs guard led the class in total points (1,190) and steals (74) while ranking second in games played (81) and third in assists (332). However, Sarr had a case to be in the second or third slots.</p><p>The seven-footer was second in the class with 13 points and 1.5 blocks per game, as well as fifth with 6.5 rebounds. He’s also the third-ever player to tally 800-plus, 150-plus assists, and 80-plus blocks before turning 20. The first two were LeBron James and Tracy McGrady.</p><p>Sarr’s main weakness was shooting accuracy. The French international’s 39.4 percent field goal clip (30.8 percent 3 PT) is below par for a center and ranked behind both Risacher (45.8 percent, 35.5 percent 3 PT) and Wells (42.5 percent, 35.2 percent 3 PT). However, the three-point percentage is deceiving, as he took just 52 attempts all season, while Sarr took 341.</p><p>If Edey does get selected over Sarr, it’ll be due to his shooting efficiency, rebounding, and only having 0.2 fewer blocks per game. However, the latter rookie deserves credit for producing with less talent around him. The Memphis Grizzlies have two-time All-Stars Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr., while the Wizards’ only former All-Star (Khris Middleton) is past his prime.</p><p>Additionally, Sarr is a more effective playmaker. The former Australian League player averaged 2.4 assists against 1.7 turnovers, while Edey posted one assist against 1.3 turnovers. Sarr showcased his ability to bring the ball up the court and space the floor, while Edey is more of a rim presence who occasionally ventures outside.</p><p>Unfortunately for Sarr, players on winning or playoff teams often get favored over those on lottery squads. That doesn’t guarantee Edey placing over him, but it’s another factor in the Purdue alum’s favor. Stephon Castle, Zaccharie Risacher, and Alex Sarr are in the conversation for the award but only one of them can take home the trophy.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/hawks-zaccharie-risacher-reveals-where-his-focus-is-amid-roy-race">Risacher has shown progress throughout the season</a> and his hard work is finally paying off, and he has a good case to take home the award when it’s all said and done.</p><p>Let’s see why.</p><h2><b>Zaccharie Risacher has finished the season strong</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Zaccharie-Risacher.jpg"><figcaption>Dale Zanine-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Risacher has probably had the best last two months of the season out of all the rookies, and he’s gotten awarded for his play. He’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/hawks-news-quin-snyder-external-affirmation-zaccharie-risacher-latest-award">been named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Year</a> for February and March, and it’s evident that <a href="https://x.com/_MalikATL/status/1907185250356076609" rel="noopener">he has improved steadily</a> throughout the season. In March, Risacher averaged 16.3 points and shot 53% from the field, while also having the second-highest eFG% amongst all rookies who appeared in at least 10 games during the month.</p><p>In February, he averaged 12.8 points per game and continued to help the Hawks through the season as they dealt with several injuries to some of their key players. As the season has gone on, Risacher has improved his 3-point percentage and is finishing at the rim at a high level, and everyone around the team has seen the leap that he’s taken.</p><p>This isn’t to say that Castle and Sarr haven’t improved throughout the season, but not only has Risacher improved, but he’s been a key part of the Hawks being in the midst of a race for the playoffs.</p><h2><b>The Hawks’ rookie is impacting winning </b></h2><p>The Hawks are currently fighting for seeding in the Play-In Tournament, and it’s taken a complete team effort for them to get where they are despite the numerous changes that have happened throughout the season. With Jalen Johnson being out for the season, and De’Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic being traded at the deadline, players like Risacher had to step up and that’s what he did. Risacher is now starting on a playoff-caliber team and is putting up big numbers throughout the stretch to help the Hawks get much-needed wins.</p><p>The San Antonio Spurs playoff dreams were shattered when Victor Wembanyama was ruled out for the rest of the season, and later on, De’Aaron Fox was ruled out as well. Now, the Spurs are just hoping to finish the season strong and the young guys have gotten more minutes. The Washington Wizards have been near the bottom of the Eastern Conference for most of the season, and though Sarr has had some nice numbers, they haven’t led to many wins for their team.</p><p>For Risacher, his stats have helped the Hawks to stay competitive this season, and he’s had some big games such as his 36-point outing against the Milwaukee Bucks to help them clinch a Play-In spot.</p><h2><b>Zaccharie Risacher is playing well on both sides of the ball</b></h2><p>Though Risacher isn’t averaging the most points between Castle and Sarr, it’s safe to say that he’s been the most efficient out of those two. Offensively, his field goal percentages pop out, and is doing much more in fewer minutes on the floor.</p><p>One thing that people didn’t know much about Risacher was his defensive ability, and he’s had to match up with some tough opponents throughout the season. He’s been able to hold his own, and though those numbers don’t show up on the stat sheet, he should still get some recognition. Risacher is playing well on both sides of the ball at an efficient level, and that’s something that should be taken into account.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
