The only bright spot for Washington in the loss was 20-year-old center Alex Sarr.</p><p>Sarr poured in 31 points on 12-of-20 shooting from the field, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, along with eight rebounds, three blocks, and two assists across 29 minutes. His 31-point performance was the third 30-point game of his career, breaking a tie with Bradley Beal for the <a href="https://x.com/statmuse/status/1986263619143655424" rel="noopener">most 30-point games</a> by a Wizards player before turning 21, according to StatMuse.</p><p>Beyond individual scoring, Sarr became the third-fastest player in NBA history to reach 1,000 points, 100 blocks, and 100 three-pointers, trailing only Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/washington-wizards/wizards-news-underrated-skill-alex-sarr-nba-bigs">Sarr’s leap this season is evident</a> when comparing his 2024-25 campaign to the current year. Last season, he averaged 13 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.5 blocks while shooting 39.4 percent from the field. This year, he is averaging 19 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.3 blocks while shooting 59.2 percent.</p><p>Notably, Sarr has shifted his game to focus more inside the paint, doubling his attempts at the rim while halving his three-point volume, yet shooting 45.4 percent from beyond the arc, up from 30.8 percent last season.</p><p>Washington’s loss at the hands of Boston exposed ongoing issues within the squad. The Wizards led 37-26 after the first quarter but could not sustain the momentum. The Celtics’ 21-4 second-quarter run swung the lead to Boston, who widened it to a 29-point victory. Washington was particularly hindered by 19 turnovers that allowed the Celtics 30 points, while the Wizards managed only three points off Boston’s mistakes.</p><p>Other Washington contributors included Justin Champagnie and Marvin Bagley III, who combined for 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting, and Malaki Branham, who scored 10 points in limited minutes. The 20-year-old dished five assists for the third straight game, and he’s now fifth among NBA big men with <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/stats/player/_/position/center/table/offensive/sort/avgAssists/dir/desc" rel="noopener">4.5 dimes per contest</a>, per ESPN.</p><p>Wizards head coach Brian Keefe spoke about Sarr’s passing ability after Tuesday’s 139-134 overtime loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.</p><p>“I think that’s one of the things we saw early, even going back to why we selected him,” he said. “ I don’t think people are talking enough about his passing ability, his ability to see the game. Although the French international showed flashes of his facilitating ability as a rookie, he’s now averaging 2.1 more assists than he did last season, albeit across only four games thus far. He’s not yet on the level of star big men like Nikola Jokic (11.3 assists) and Alperen Sengun (7.3), but he’ll still be one of the best passers at the position if he keeps his current pace.</p><p>Sarr’s showing that he can not only anticipate when teammates will get open, but also hit them in stride when they do break free. The seven-foot, 205-pounder ranks third on Washington in average assists, behind only veteran guard CJ McCollum and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/washington-wizards/why-alex-sarr-wizards-fans-excitement-kyshawn-george-2">second-year wing Kyshawn George</a>, who each have five. However, both of the latter players are averaging 5.5 more minutes as Sarr heals from the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/washington-wizards/wizards-alex-sarr-suffers-concerning-calf-injury-at-eurobasket">calf he injury he sustained while playing for France in EuroBasket</a>.</p><p>Additionally, the 2025 Rising Star’s passing improvement hasn’t come at the expense of the rest of his game. For example, he ranks fifth among centers with 19.5 points per contest and tied for fourth with two blocks while also averaging 2.3 more rebounds than last season. Furthermore, his 55.2 percent shooting clip is 15.8 percent higher than his rookie mark, which is partly because he’s taking more shots inside. He averaged 5.1 three-point attempts last year, but has decreased to 2.8 so far this season.</p><p>Both the data and the eye test reveal that Sarr is growing into a do-it-all big man, and he’s not the Wizards’ only young player taking a leap.</p><h2><b>Kyshawn George loves Wizards’ unselfish approach</b></h2><p>One of the themes of Washington’s first four games is the team’s offensive unpredictability, as a different player has been its top scorer in each one. Veteran forward Khris Middleton led the squad with 23 points (9-14 FG, 3-5 3-point) against the Milwaukee Bucks in the season-opener before George led with 34 points (11-15 FG, 7-9 3-point) in a 117-107 road win over the Dallas Mavericks. The 21-year-old is also shooting 53.8 percent from deep despite his 6.5 attempts a night, and he’s second with 1.3 steals per game as well as 1.5 blocks.</p><p>That three-point efficiency is unsustainable, but the rest of his production isn’t. George has been Washington’s most consistent two-way player, which is a revelation considering that he wasn’t a lottery pick. The Swiss-Canadian’s success is a testament to the team’s developmental program under president Michael Winger and general manager Will Dawkins.</p><p>As if that’s not enough, No. 6 overall pick Tre Johnson is third on the squad with 14.8 points on 44.9 percent shooting (39.3 percent 3-point). The former Texas Longhorn is having no trouble adjusting to the NBA from a scoring perspective, which was his biggest strength as a prospect.</p><p>The Wizards aren’t a contender yet, but Sarr, George, and Johnson are showing why they have one of the most exciting young cores in the league. On Tuesday, he <a href="https://x.com/WizPRStats/status/1983346060077453816" rel="noopener">cemented his place</a> in franchise history, ironically in an overtime loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.</p><p>He scored 31 points and had 11 rebounds in 34 minutes of play. In the process, Sarr, 20, became the youngest player in Wizards history to score 30+ points and record 10+ rebounds in a game. The last player was Thomas Bryant, who was 21.</p><p>After playing competitively, the Wizards were outscored by the 76ers 32-16 in the fourth quarter. Later in OT, they were outscored 13-8 and lost 139-134.</p><p>In his rookie season, Sarr averaged 19.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game while averaging 27.1 minutes per game. NBA All-Rookie First Team and won Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month last December.</p><p>Additionally, Sarr became one of only three NBA rookies to achieve 100 three-pointers, 100 blocks, and 150 assists in a single year. Plus, he led all rookies with 31 multi-block games and 144 blocks and steals.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Wizards are only one of the NBA’s lowly teams to finish with an 18-64 record last year. Over the summer, Sarr represented France at the EuroBasket tournament. While there, he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/washington-wizards/wizards-alex-sarr-suffers-concerning-calf-injury-at-eurobasket">sustained a calf injury</a>.</p><p>So far, Sarr is averaging 19.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game as the Wizards start the season at 1-3.</p><h2><b>Alex Sarr could follow in the footsteps of those who came before him</b></h2><p>At this point, Sarr is trying to find his footing while the Wizards embark on a long-term journey back to some semblance of prominence.</p><p>If they click in the long term, then Sarr could find himself amongst the previous Washington players who made an impact on the franchise. Among those players are the likes of Wes Unseld, Elvin Hayes, John Wall, and Gilbert Arenas.</p><p>Each of them played a key role in elevating the franchise’s status while achieving incredible individual feats. The former Miami Hurricane was one of Washington’s three first-round rookies entering last season, but he was the only one not selected in the lottery. Now, he might be the best piece of the young core.</p><p>George doesn’t have Bilal Coulibaly’s perimeter defensive skills, Sarr’s rim-protection, Tre Johnson’s three-point prowess, or Bub Carrington’s midrange effectiveness, but he’s the most versatile of the group. Although <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/washington-wizards/wizards-news-bilal-coulibaly-expected-miss-beginning-season-thumb-surgery">Coulibaly is out with a thumb injury</a>, Wednesday’s game showed that reality.</p><p>George had the most points, assists, and blocks among him, Sarr, Johnson, and Carrington in the contest. The 21-year-old had two fewer rebounds than the seven-foot Sarr, and his field goal percentage was just 3.3 percent lower than Sarr’s despite taking five more shots. He also had just one fewer three-point shot made in two fewer attempts than Johnson, while he, Johnson, and Carrington each had a steal.</p><p><b>UPDATE: </b>George followed that up with a career night in Friday’s 117-107 win over the Dallas Mavericks, notching 34 points (11-15 FG, 7-9 3-point) with 11 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals over 35 minutes. He led the team in points and rebounds while also tying Sarr for the most blocks. Additionally, he tied for second in assists and steals while topping the squad with a plus-14 plus/minus.</p><p>Although Washington is still figuring out who will be its franchise cornerstone, George is making the best case for that title so far. For example, his <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/players/advanced?Season=2024-25&amp;TeamID=1610612764&amp;dir=A&amp;sort=NET_RATING" rel="noopener">-10.1 net rating</a> was the best of the young core sans Johnson, who played his one year at Texas University, per NBA Advanced Stats. Net rating is the offensive rating minus the defensive rating, both of which the 2024 No. 24 overall pick also topped the young core in.</p><p>George also averaged just five points on 30.8 percent shooting (12.5 percent 3-point) with 2.8 boards last October, but more than doubled those scoring and rebounding averages in February while adding 9.9 points to his field-goal percentage and almost quadrupling his three-point clip. The work didn’t stop after the season ended in April, as the 6-foot-8, 200-pounder got more reps in during Summer League and with the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/washington-wizards/wizards-news-wiz-kids-offering-fans-hope-overseas-tournaments">Canadian national team in the FIBA Americup</a>. Now, he’s a different player.</p><p>If George continues playing like he did on Wednesday and Friday, he’s a lock to make his first Rising Stars team and be one of the NBA’s most improved hoopers. Most importantly, he’ll give hope to a Washington fanbase that hasn’t experienced an Eastern Conference Semifinals appearance since 2017 or a conference finals berth since 1979.</p><p>It’ll take more than George’s ascension for the franchise to reach those heights again, but between the development of the aforementioned players as well as whoever it drafts in the 2026 lottery, there’s reason to believe it will in the coming years.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

According to The Athletic’s Josh Robbins, Sarr’s <a href="https://x.com/JoshuaBRobbins/status/1962944181560561850" rel="noopener">tournament is over</a>. Fortunately, Washington does not think that he is going to miss the start of the NBA’s regular season.</p><p>“Although Alex Sarr will miss the remainder of the EuroBasket tournament because of a left calf injury, Wizards officials expect that he’ll be ready for the start of the season, a team source said. The injury will not require surgery,” Robbins said.</p><p>That news is a relief for Wizards fans everywhere. Sarr settled in during the second half of his rookie season and finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting behind Risacher, Stephon Castle, and Jaylen Wells. However, any and all injuries are reason for concern for a player of his stature. Washington is unlikely to rush his recovery as the season looms on the horizon.</p><p>Sarr is an important player, both for France’s national team and the Wizards. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/washington-wizards/washington-wizards-2025-nba-draft-grades">Washington added even more young talent in this year’s draft</a> and are an intriguing team heading into next season. However, a lot of their plans rely on Sarr developing into a star down low comparable to fellow Frenchman Victor Wembanyama. His injury throws a wrench in that process for now.</p><p>Sarr is going to stay with his team and encourage Yabusele and the others as EuroBasket continues. No. 2 overall pick <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/wizards-news-alex-sarr-bilal-coulibaly-bub-carrington-all-star-weekend-2">Alex Sarr and No. 14 pick Bub Carrington</a> received All-Rookie first team and second team honors, respectively.</p><p>Sarr and Carrington are the first pair of Wizards <a href="https://x.com/WizPRStats/status/1924898415579717973" rel="noopener">teammates to be named</a> All-Rookie at the same time since Gus Johnson and Rod Thorn in the 1963-64 campaign, via the team’s PR. Sarr is also the first Wizard to make the first team since Bradley Beal in 2012-13.</p><p>The full 2024-25 All-Rookie <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1924888212352467194" rel="noopener">list is below</a>, via ESPN’s Shams Charania:</p><p>“First team: Stephon Castle, Zaccharie Risacher, Jaylen Wells, Zach Edey, Alex Sarr</p><p>Second team: Matas Buzelis, Bub Carrington, Donovan Clingan, Kel’el Ware, Yves Missi.”</p><p>A global <a href="https://x.com/NBAPR/status/1924888168509141258" rel="noopener">media panel of 100 voters</a> selected the teams, via NBA Communications. First place votes were worth two points, and second place votes were worth one. Sarr finished with 150 points, 12 more than Ware for the final first team spot. Carrington had 53 points, one more than Utah Jazz guard Isaiah Collier for the final second team spot. Meanwhile, Washington guard Kyshawn George got one second place vote.</p><p>Sarr is the first teenager in NBA history to make 100-plus threes and block 100-plus shots in a season, while Carrington played all 82 games and made a record amount of threes for Wizards rookies in a season (121). They are also the first team to have three rookies (Sarr, Carrington, George) make 100-plus threes in one campaign, and they’re the only squad besides the Memphis Grizzlies (Wells, Edey) to have two All-Rookie players this year.</p><p>Between Bilal Coulibaly, Sarr, Carrington, George, AJ Johnson, and whoever they draft at Nos. 6 and 18 this summer, the Wizards will have one of the deepest stashes of young talent in the NBA. However, players like Texas guard Tre Johnson, Oklahoma guard Jeremiah Fears, and Maryland big man Derik Queen are contenders at No. 6.</p><p>Coincidentally, Queen grew up with Carrington in Baltimore. Me and Derik are really close.”</p><p>“He’s goofy as I don’t know what…Obviously, a h*ll of a basketball player, really good,” he continued.</p><p>Queen received Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Big Ten All-Freshman Team, and first-team All-Big Ten honors after averaging 16.5 points on 52.6 percent shooting (20 percent 3 PT) with nine rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals in 30.4 minutes. The 6-foot-10-inch, 246-pounder also hit a game-winning fadeaway jumper at the buzzer in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Colorado. The shot brought the score to 72-71, so the Terrapins would’ve lost had he missed.</p><p>Queen profiles as a Brad Miller/Zach Randolph type <a href="https://www.nbadraft.net/players/derik-queen/" rel="noopener">who is crafty in the post</a> and has the potential to defend all positions at the next level, via NBADraft.net. However, the 20-year-old is inconsistent defensively and doesn’t yet have a reliable three-point shot. He could be a good compliment to Sarr in the frontcourt, who is a stretch big that already excels as a shot blocker.</p><p>Floor spacing is paramount in this era of positionless basketball, which means that competent three-point shooting is necessary for any player who isn’t a defensive anchor, a la Rudy Gobert. Still, Sarr’s shot blocking and three-point shooting could cover up Queen’s weaknesses and magnify his excellence in the paint and midrange.</p><p>Wizards general manager Will Dawkins’ selections on June 25 will give further insight into his preferred type of player. So far, the former Oklahoma City Thunder executive has built the young core around two-way/“three-and-D” types.</p><p>With that being said, Dawkins and team President Michael Winger have only been with the organization since 2023. However, the No. 2 overall pick was one of the best players in the 2024 draft class, even though NBA awards voters didn’t give him credit.</p><p>Sarr was left off the 2024-25 <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/spurs-stephon-castle-believes-rookie-year-locked-up">Rookie of the Year ballot in favor of Stephon Castle</a>, Zaccharie Risacher, and Jaylen Wells. Castle is the <a href="https://www.foxsports.com/articles/nba/2024-25-nba-rookie-of-the-year-odds-and-favorites" rel="noopener">favorite to win</a>, as he should be, via FOX Sports. The San Antonio Spurs guard led the class in total points (1,190) and steals (74) while ranking second in games played (81) and third in assists (332). However, Sarr had a case to be in the second or third slots.</p><p>The seven-footer was second in the class with 13 points and 1.5 blocks per game, as well as fifth with 6.5 rebounds. He’s also the third-ever player to tally 800-plus, 150-plus assists, and 80-plus blocks before turning 20. The first two were LeBron James and Tracy McGrady.</p><p>Sarr’s main weakness was shooting accuracy. The French international’s 39.4 percent field goal clip (30.8 percent 3 PT) is below par for a center and ranked behind both Risacher (45.8 percent, 35.5 percent 3 PT) and Wells (42.5 percent, 35.2 percent 3 PT). His 27.1 minutes per game was second in the class only to teammate Bub Carrington (30), so he relied more on playing time than efficiency to inflate his numbers.</p><p>Still, Sarr deserves an All-Rookie First Team placement, which is given to the five best rookies in the league. The 19-year-old finished third in NBA.com’s <a href="https://www.nba.com/news/kia-rookie-ladder-april-9-2025-edition" rel="noopener">final rookie ladder</a> and was labeled First Team-worthy by Steve Aschburner. His other selections were Castle, Risacher, Wells, and Kel’el Ware.</p><p>Who is Sarr’s main competitor for First Team selection outside of the Rookie of the Year finalists?</p><h2><b>Zach Edey could take Alex Sarr’s spot</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Zach-Edey-Grizzlies.jpg"><figcaption>Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Edey is the likeliest candidate in the field to snag the fifth First Team slot, as the fellow big man was productive in his own right. The 7-foot-4-inch, 305-pounder averaged 9.2 points per game on 58 percent shooting (34.6 percent 3 PT) with 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks across 21.5 minutes. However, the three-point percentage is deceiving, as he took just 52 attempts all season, while Sarr took 341.</p><p>If Edey does get selected over Sarr, it’ll be due to his shooting efficiency, rebounding, and only having 0.2 fewer blocks per game. However, the latter rookie deserves credit for producing with less talent around him. The Memphis Grizzlies have two-time All-Stars Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr., while the Wizards’ only former All-Star (Khris Middleton) is past his prime.</p><p>Additionally, Sarr is a more effective playmaker. The former Australian League player averaged 2.4 assists against 1.7 turnovers, while Edey posted one assist against 1.3 turnovers. Sarr showcased his ability to bring the ball up the court and space the floor, while Edey is more of a rim presence who occasionally ventures outside.</p><p>Unfortunately for Sarr, players on winning or playoff teams often get favored over those on lottery squads. That doesn’t guarantee Edey placing over him, but it’s another factor in the Purdue alum’s favor. The Grizzlies are playing the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Quarterfinals, while the Wizards finished 18-64.</p><p>Only time will tell if Sarr gets the credit he deserves, but he’s proven that he’s one of the most exciting young big men to watch in the NBA moving forward.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Stephon Castle, Zaccharie Risacher, and Alex Sarr are in the conversation for the award but only one of them can take home the trophy.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/hawks-zaccharie-risacher-reveals-where-his-focus-is-amid-roy-race">Risacher has shown progress throughout the season</a> and his hard work is finally paying off, and he has a good case to take home the award when it’s all said and done.</p><p>Let’s see why.</p><h2><b>Zaccharie Risacher has finished the season strong</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Zaccharie-Risacher.jpg"><figcaption>Dale Zanine-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Risacher has probably had the best last two months of the season out of all the rookies, and he’s gotten awarded for his play. He’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/hawks-news-quin-snyder-external-affirmation-zaccharie-risacher-latest-award">been named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Year</a> for February and March, and it’s evident that <a href="https://x.com/_MalikATL/status/1907185250356076609" rel="noopener">he has improved steadily</a> throughout the season. In March, Risacher averaged 16.3 points and shot 53% from the field, while also having the second-highest eFG% amongst all rookies who appeared in at least 10 games during the month.</p><p>In February, he averaged 12.8 points per game and continued to help the Hawks through the season as they dealt with several injuries to some of their key players. As the season has gone on, Risacher has improved his 3-point percentage and is finishing at the rim at a high level, and everyone around the team has seen the leap that he’s taken.</p><p>This isn’t to say that Castle and Sarr haven’t improved throughout the season, but not only has Risacher improved, but he’s been a key part of the Hawks being in the midst of a race for the playoffs.</p><h2><b>The Hawks’ rookie is impacting winning </b></h2><p>The Hawks are currently fighting for seeding in the Play-In Tournament, and it’s taken a complete team effort for them to get where they are despite the numerous changes that have happened throughout the season. With Jalen Johnson being out for the season, and De’Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic being traded at the deadline, players like Risacher had to step up and that’s what he did. Risacher is now starting on a playoff-caliber team and is putting up big numbers throughout the stretch to help the Hawks get much-needed wins.</p><p>The San Antonio Spurs playoff dreams were shattered when Victor Wembanyama was ruled out for the rest of the season, and later on, De’Aaron Fox was ruled out as well. Now, the Spurs are just hoping to finish the season strong and the young guys have gotten more minutes. The Washington Wizards have been near the bottom of the Eastern Conference for most of the season, and though Sarr has had some nice numbers, they haven’t led to many wins for their team.</p><p>For Risacher, his stats have helped the Hawks to stay competitive this season, and he’s had some big games such as his 36-point outing against the Milwaukee Bucks to help them clinch a Play-In spot.</p><h2><b>Zaccharie Risacher is playing well on both sides of the ball</b></h2><p>Though Risacher isn’t averaging the most points between Castle and Sarr, it’s safe to say that he’s been the most efficient out of those two. Offensively, his field goal percentages pop out, and is doing much more in fewer minutes on the floor.</p><p>One thing that people didn’t know much about Risacher was his defensive ability, and he’s had to match up with some tough opponents throughout the season. He’s been able to hold his own, and though those numbers don’t show up on the stat sheet, he should still get some recognition. The No. 2 overall pick averaged just eight points per game on 29.7 percent shooting (23.8 percent 3 PT) across 24.2 minutes in October but is posting 17.2 points on a 41.8 percent clip (36.4 percent 3 PT) across 27.6 minutes in March.</p><p>“I feel like we’ve just been playing really good basketball, team basketball,” Poole continued. “Everybody’s been on the court long enough to learn each other’s strengths. I think we got a really good chemistry going on on both sides of the ball. Credit to Alex for sticking with it and continuing to improve and shush a lot of the noise that we heard coming into the season.”</p><p>It was never smart to write off Sarr after a handful of rocky Summer League appearances, but the social media era is full of premature takes. Regardless, the French international is showing each game why he was drafted so high, as he’s averaging 20.3 points on 56 percent true shooting with 6.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks over the last eight contests.</p><p>True shooting is an advanced stat that is calculated by dividing twice the sum of the players’ field goal attempts and 0.44 times their free throw attempts. It takes into account all types of shots and their respective values. For context, Dalton Knecht and Jaylen Wells lead all rookies at 59.3 and 56.1 percent, respectively.</p><p>Meanwhile, Sarr has maintained the other facets of his game. The seven-footer’s 6.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game in March nearly match his season averages across the board (6.7, 2.3, 1.5). At the very least, it looks as though the Wizards hit on their three first-round picks in 2024, with Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, and Carlton Carrington all showing glimpses of being impactful players for the long run.</p><p>On Wednesday night, it was Sarr who led the Wizards and proved once again why many saw him as the best prospect in the 2024 NBA Draft class. He put up 24 points and seven rebounds and shot the ball efficiency from the field, making 10 of his 17 field-goal attempts on the night in a 119-114 Wizards win over the Philadelphia 76ers. And in so doing, Sarr <a href="https://x.com/StatMamba/status/1905067344054923341" rel="noopener">became the youngest center</a> in NBA history to score 20 or more points without getting to the foul line at least once, as pointed out by StatMamba on X (formerly Twitter).</p><p>Sarr is more of a finesse big man, as he’s not someone who plays with brute force in the paint. This is why the Wizards rookie can struggle with his efficiency at times. But when his shot is falling like it was on Wednesday, then the game becomes very easy for the 19-year-old rookie out of France.</p><p>The 19-year-old big man may not end up being the top player on a contending team, but when he comes into his own with age, he should be a crucial piece on a winning Wizards team. Justin Edwards, who went undrafted last summer, has quickly proved to be a keeper for the Sixers.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/76ers-news-adem-bona-joins-joel-embiid-franchise-history-books-win-vs-jazz" rel="noopener">Second-round pick Adem Bona has flashed his potential</a> throughout his rookie campaign and so has Edwards, who has been a regular starter when healthy for nearly two months now. In the 76ers’ 128-120 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, Edwards tied a career-high of 25 points and recorded a scoring streak that only a few rookies have reached this season.</p><p>Edwards has now scored <a href="https://x.com/SixersStats/status/1903258596143419481" rel="noopener">at least 18 points in three straight games</a>. According to the Sixers’ stat department, only McCain and Alex Sarr have scored at least 18 in more consecutive contests. McCain’s nine-game streak towers above the rest of his fellow newcomers, Sarr is in the midst of a five-game streak, Stephon Castle has put together a three-game streak thrice (and was two total points away from having an active five-game streak) and Kel’el Ware had a three-game streak earlier this season.</p><h2><b>Justin Edwards showcasing future potential with 76ers</b></h2><p>All of those players were top-20 picks, a stark contrast to Edwards, who started this season on a two-way deal after going through the 2024 NBA Draft without hearing his name.</p><p>Edwards, a 21-year-old Philadelphia native who played college ball at Kentucky, earned a starting spot as the 76ers started to deal with a hefty amount of injuries. Even when all the stars played, Edwards remained in the starting lineup with them. He almost certainly will be for the rest of the season.</p><p>The 76ers playing in low-stakes games for the rest of the season will only help Edwards’ development. Getting the chance to play extended minutes and see what works will help him going forward. It’s super promising for the future.”</p><p>Washington is now 6-8 over its last 14 games, an impressive stretch for a 12-49 squad. The rookies are a big reason, as at least one has scored double-digit points in 12 straight contests. George’s progress is especially noticeable, as he’s shot 41 percent from deep since Feb. 5 after shooting 12.5 percent in October, 27.8 in November, 26.7 in December, and 31.5 in January.</p><p>However, the No. 24 overall pick isn’t satisfied.</p><p>“Definitely room for improvement. The numbers say I got better, but there’s so much more I can show, and be way more efficient,” he continued. “But I trust my work and I’m confident in my shot. If I’m open, I’m gonna let it fly.”</p><p>George continues to contribute across the board as well. The Miami alum led the Wizards with six defensive rebounds against the Jazz while adding two assists, a steal, and a block across 34 minutes. He also led with eight defensive boards in their 106-90 loss to the Miami Heat on Monday and eight assists in their 113-100 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday.</p><p>That’s not bad for a late first-round pick who flew under the radar before the trade deadline this season. Unlike Sarr, Carrington, and Bilal Coulibaly, George wasn’t named to the Rising Stars team, so he had the most to prove after the All-Star break. Luckily for Washington, the Swiss-Canadian international has stepped up.</p><h2><b>Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington impress Wizards’ Brian Keefe</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Wizards-Alex-Sarr.jpg"><figcaption>© Reggie Hildred-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Meanwhile, Sarr is back on track after playing just two games in February due to an ankle injury. Washington head coach Brian Keefe likes how he’s looked.</p><p>“You see his versatility, right? I think that’s what we all have been impressed with, is his ability to do multiple things on the court,” he said. “Playmake, handle the ball, switch pick and rolls, be a rim protector, and then a floor spacer. He’s learned, he’s getting better, but he’s getting more consistent at things that he’s really strong at. We’re learning his game as we go, but we’re not gonna put a ceiling on Alex. We’re gonna continue to push him to expand because he’s got some unique skill sets.”</p><p>Sarr’s 66.7 field goal percentage was the Wizards’ highest despite being tied for their second-most shot attempts. It also tied for the seven-footer’s most efficient game yet, as he scored 18 points with the same clip in Washington’s 110-98 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Jan. 5. If he consistently makes over half his shots while maintaining his season averages of 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per contest for the rest of the season, he’ll re-enter Rookie of the Year conversations.</p><p>Additionally, Carrington has been just as impressive as Sarr and George. The No. 14 overall pick scored 12 points (4-10 FG, 0-3 3 PT) with a team-high nine assists on Wednesday. He also added two steals and two blocks in 34 minutes. This was the second straight game that he led Washington in dimes, as he had seven against Miami.</p><p>While Carrington’s shooting just 32.4 percent in March, he boasted a career-high 50 percent clip in February. Keefe talked up the Pitt alum after Friday’s practice.</p><p>“Bub’s been terrific. He’s been great all year,” he said. “One thing he does is, he’s one of the guys that helps us get into our offense well. He pushes the pace, gets the ball kicked ahead. And then we see his activity on the defensive end, his ability to rebound. He’s growing each month, so we’ve been really pleased with his development.”</p><p>Although the Jazz are also rebuilding, it’s a good sign that the Wizards’ rookies can already anchor a victory against another NBA team with Jordan Poole (elbow) out. They’re only just beginning, so imagine what they’ll do going forward as they keep improving.</p><h2><b>Justin Champagnie proves his worth</b></h2><p>Another storyline from Wednesday’s win was Champagnie’s quality effort. The 23-year-old led Washington’s bench with 17 points (5-9 FG, 4-7 3 PT) in his second game since signing a new four-year, $10 million contract on Sunday. Very fast-paced, the first team to 40 points. I feel like I didn’t have the time to really be nervous. I was just excited to be out there.”</p><p>The French international scored three points (1-2 FG, 1-2 3 PT) with one rebound and one assist across 10 minutes for Team T in their 40-34 semifinal loss to Team C. His lone bucket was a catch-and-shoot three over 7-foot-4 center Zach Edey to cut Team T’s deficit to 36-32.</p><p>While Sarr is a defensive player, his ability to also bring the ball up and score from all three levels is what makes him a worthy building block for Washington’s future. The 19-year-old deserved a vacation, but he still got more reps in ahead of Washington’s remaining 28 contests.</p><p>Meanwhile, Wizards guard Jaylen Nowell dropped a team-leading 11 points (4-9 FG, 3-6 3 PT) with one rebound, one assist, and one steal across just 10 minutes for Team EarnYourLeisure in their 36-32 loss to Team Braxton during Sunday’s G League Up Next Game Semifinal. Kyshawn’s an extremely high-level shooter, and I continuously tell them that I only shot 27% from three my first year,” Poole admitted. “I’m talking like, couldn’t throw a rock into the ocean. It made me better, it just takes time. It took me an entire year just to adjust to the line, adjust to the games, adjust to the physicality.”</p><p>George, who shot 40.8% from deep for Miami basketball last season, is shooting just 25.2% from downtown in the NBA thus far. However, the No. 24 overall pick has plenty of time to reach Poole’s current level of three-point shooting, especially when the former Golden State Warrior is there to mentor him daily.</p><p>“We’re guarding, we’re running, we play 82 games, we’re traveling, so it’s more so on the body,” Poole continued. “It just takes time to get acclimated to, and credit to our rookies for continuing to stick through it, not changing their game, not wavering in confidence. It’s a good opportunity for them to be out there and play through that as well.”</p><p>While George has started slow as he figures out the NBA game, Bub Carrington sports a 40.7% clip from the field thus far, with Wednesday’s outing his most efficient yet. The Baltimore native scored 11 points (4-of-5 FG, 3-of-3 3Pt) with four rebounds, six assists, one block, and one steal across 31 minutes.</p><p>It’s one thing to be a talented rookie getting consistent minutes, and it’s another thing to have an accomplished veteran role model on top of that. Sarr, Carrington, and George are all in the best position they could ask for with Poole at their disposal.</p><p>Up next for the Wizards is a home-and-home set with the New Orleans Pelicans, which presents the perfect chance to get a win streak going. At 5-29, the Pelicans are the only team in the league with a worse record than Washington.</p><p>Additionally, Zion Williamson (hamstring) <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/game/_/gameId/401705038/wizards-pelicans" rel="noopener">won’t play on</a> Friday in New Orleans, while Brandon Ingram (ankle) will be out for both games, via ESPN.
