While there are plenty of questions regarding LeBron James and the franchise beyond the 2025-26 campaign, LA has enjoyed a highly active summer. And perhaps there is still more big news to come.</p><p>ClutchPoints’ senior Lakers insider Anthony Irwin first reported at the end of June that Los Angeles and the Miami Heat were <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/sources-lakers-heat-moving-forward-andrew-wiggins-trade-talks">moving forward with trade talks</a> revolving around wing Andrew Wiggins. CP’s senior NBA reporter Brett Siegel reiterated the Heat’s willingness to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/editorials/siegels-scoop-josh-giddey-jonathan-kuminga-rfa-market-unchanged">entertain a possible Wiggins deal</a> in August, causing speculation to rise even further. Now, NBA correspondent Marc Stein is <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/monday-best-the-latest-nba-trade?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=173056493&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;r=39f60&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">also drawing attention</a> to a potential transaction between the two teams.</p><p>“As I understand it: The Lakers’ reluctance in the early stages of the offseason to consider trades for contracts that stretch beyond the 2025-26 season has thawed somewhat,” he writes. “I don’t think that means they’ll swing a deal for just anyone between now and the Feb. 5 trade deadline, but league sources say L.A. would indeed have interest in adding a two-way swingman who can raise their ceiling.”</p><h2><b>Would Wiggins give the Lakers a needed boost?</b></h2><p>Wiggins packs the supplemental scoring punch and defensive versatility that any squad with serious aspirations can use. He was a critical part of the Golden State Warriors’ last championship run and brought energy to South Beach after getting shipped to the Heat in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-rumors-jimmy-butler-agent-made-promise-was-broken">the Jimmy Butler trade</a>. Acquiring the 30-year-old Canadian will be costly — will make $28.2 million this season and has a $30.1 million player option for 2026-27 — but LA is evidently more amenable to such a commitment than it was several months ago.</p><p>“I wouldn’t have classified him as a potential purple-and-gold target before Dončić’s long-term future was secured, but things are different now,” Stein writes. “So my sense is that the Lakers would have interest if the Heat, in coming weeks or months, decide to prioritize financial flexibility and look to reduce payroll.”</p><p>The 2022 All-Star averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 60 games while shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from 3-point land last season. Opposing defenses will focus mainly on LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, which would theoretically give Andrew Wiggins favorable looks on offense.</p><p>The rest of the league is chasing the Oklahoma City Thunder, but the Lakers could show just how dedicated they are to catching the reigning champions by acquiring this veteran difference-maker. Entering their first full year without the mercurial veteran, the Heat are looking to solely focus on basketball.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/1-move-miami-heat-shouldve-made-2025-nba-offseason">The Heat didn’t make a lot of big moves in the offseason</a>, with Norman Powell and Simone Fontecchio as the only notable additions. The team retained the core of Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, and Andrew Wiggins, with Kel’el Ware aiming to build on his impressive rookie season.</p><p>While there’s renewed optimism in South Beach, a longtime scout from the Eastern Conference <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article311484884.html" rel="noopener">didn’t give a rosy review</a> of the Heat ahead of the upcoming season.</p><p>“Let’s start with who’s better. I see six teams, for sure: New York, Cleveland, Orlando, Atlanta, Detroit, Milwaukee. Philadelphia is better if they’re healthy. So I would say the Heat’s a solid play-in team,” said the anonymous official, as quoted in a report from Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson.</p><p>He praised Adebayo, Herro, and Powell, but didn’t hold back on Wiggins, who will play his first full season in Miami after being part of the midseason trade with the Golden State Warriors for Butler.</p><p>“It’s around a .500 team. He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Miami Heat</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>It hasn’t been a particularly eventful offseason for the Miami Heat, who swung a nice <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-norman-powell-gives-honest-thoughts-on-getting-acclimated-since-trade">trade for wing Norman Powell</a> but still figure to be several tiers below legitimate contention in the Eastern Conference. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-face-dilemma-on-150-million-tyler-herro-contract-extension">Heat have been mired</a> in NBA purgatory for a couple of years now, not bad enough to tank but not good enough to compete, and it’s unclear how that will change anytime soon.</p><p>This offseason, some fans wanted to see the team move on from wing Andrew Wiggins, who the Heat acquired as part of the <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/43710183/sources-heat-finalizing-jimmy-butler-trade-warriors" rel="noopener">Jimmy Butler deal</a> at last year’s trade deadline.</p><p>Recently, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel reported that “this offseason, the Miami Heat were willing to discuss trade scenarios involving Andrew Wiggins, and several teams expressed interest in the former NBA champion and All-Star wing, sources said. The Milwaukee Bucks, league sources said, were one of the teams to inquire about Wiggins.”</p><p>However, nothing ever <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/editorials/siegels-scoop-josh-giddey-jonathan-kuminga-rfa-market-unchanged">ended up materializing</a> on the Wiggins front, due to the fact that the Heat were only “willing to deal Wiggins if they received an instant impact player, along with an upcoming first-round pick before 2028,” per Siegel.</p><p>At this point, it’s unclear if Wiggins would be worth a first-round pick in and of itself, let alone an instant impact player on top of that.</p><h2><b>A strange Heat team</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Young-vs-the-Heat.jpg"><figcaption>Dale Zanine-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While there’s no doubting Pat Riley’s place as a legendary figure in NBA history, he hasn’t exactly been doing his legacy a favor with the way that he’s handled these last couple of seasons in Miami.</p><p>In 2023, the Heat shockingly made the NBA Finals, led by Jimmy Butler and a Motley crew of role players who collectively picked the same two months to have the best stretches of their careers.</p><p>Since then, Miami has not made any real moves to try to get over the championship hump, and have instead watched their relationship with Butler disintegrate.</p><p>While Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo are nice third or fourth options on contending teams, it’s unclear at this juncture how the Heat plan to get legitimate star talent back in their locker room, as the allure of “Heat Culture” appears to have now evaporated.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
