As <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-tyler-herro-erik-spoelstra-reveal-extent-of-foot-injury">Heat star Tyler Herro suffers from a foot injury</a> that will make him miss the start of the season, one player who could carry some of the weight is Andrew Wiggins.</p><p>While Norman Powell will no doubt be crucial in Herro’s absence, Wiggins is arguably more important as he is capable of being the top scoring option that has some semblance of the roster aside from Bam Adebayo. However, it was clear to see that the comfort level from the former No. 1 overall pick was not at a high point.</p><p>On the other hand, Wiggins has settled down with his family in Miami, went through a whole summer, and with the star going through his first training camp with the team, he explains the difference in his comfort level. He also goes into why he loves the organization, after being traded from the Golden State Warriors in the Jimmy Butler deal during last trade deadline.</p><p>“When I first got here, it was more trying to get situated, with the players, with the coaches, and finding my spots,” Wiggins said Tuesday at Florida Atlantic University for the first day of training camp. “Now, being around the facility, in almost every day, seeing the coaches, building up that chemistry, being comfortable.”</p><p>“I love the competitive nature, love the toughness, not only from the players, but from the coaching staff,” Wiggins continued. “Everyone’s main goal is to win. His best games, not so coincidentally, last year, is when his family visited. And that’s the type of human being he is. He just wants to have his people around him, the support group and his family and kids are amazing.”</p><p>“He’s put in the time. You can just see it on his face,” Spoelstra continued. “And I think, you know, he’s proven himself in this league that he can be such an impactful player, both ends of the court. It’s all been a part of a larger effort to surround Doncic <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/lakers-news-lebron-james-cap-net-worth-hilarious-im-broke-admission">and LeBron James</a> with all of the talent they need to turn Los Angeles back into a contender for the first time in several years.</p><p>One name the Lakers, and other teams, have had reported interest in is Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins, who was traded to Miami by the Golden State Warriors last year as a part of the Jimmy Butler trade.</p><p>However, recently, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel reported that Miami <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/siegels-scoop-warriors-final-contract-offer-jonathan-kumingas">has no desire</a> to part with Wiggins ahead of the season, and now, one NBA executive <a href="https://lakersdaily.com/nba-exec-would-be-stunned-if-pat-riley-traded-andrew-wiggins-to-lakers/" rel="noopener">is speaking on how</a> James’ past relationship with Heat team owner Pat Riley could throw a wrench in any potential trade talks.</p><p>“I would be stunned if Pat did this trade,” the executive said, per Ashish Mathur of Lakers Daily. “You really think Pat wants to help LeBron [James]? He’s still mad about LeBron leaving Miami. While there will be <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-rumors-what-miami-wanted-potential-andrew-wiggins-trade">rumors around the Heat and Wiggins</a> throughout the season regarding his potential trade status, the team has a plan for the veteran.</p><p>In the latest reporting from <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/siegels-scoop-warriors-final-contract-offer-jonathan-kumingas">ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel about the Heat</a>, the plan for Miami is that they have “no desire to trade” Wiggins before the season starts. They affirmed their commitment to Luka Doncic in the form of a $165 million contract extension, finally concluded their center search after signing Deandre Ayton and added defensive spark plug Marcus Smart. While there are plenty of questions regarding LeBron James and the franchise beyond the 2025-26 campaign, LA has enjoyed a highly active summer. And perhaps there is still more big news to come.</p><p>ClutchPoints’ senior Lakers insider Anthony Irwin first reported at the end of June that Los Angeles and the Miami Heat were <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/sources-lakers-heat-moving-forward-andrew-wiggins-trade-talks">moving forward with trade talks</a> revolving around wing Andrew Wiggins. CP’s senior NBA reporter Brett Siegel reiterated the Heat’s willingness to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/editorials/siegels-scoop-josh-giddey-jonathan-kuminga-rfa-market-unchanged">entertain a possible Wiggins deal</a> in August, causing speculation to rise even further. Now, NBA correspondent Marc Stein is <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/monday-best-the-latest-nba-trade?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=173056493&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;r=39f60&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">also drawing attention</a> to a potential transaction between the two teams.</p><p>“As I understand it: The Lakers’ reluctance in the early stages of the offseason to consider trades for contracts that stretch beyond the 2025-26 season has thawed somewhat,” he writes. “I don’t think that means they’ll swing a deal for just anyone between now and the Feb. 5 trade deadline, but league sources say L.A. would indeed have interest in adding a two-way swingman who can raise their ceiling.”</p><h2><b>Would Wiggins give the Lakers a needed boost?</b></h2><p>Wiggins packs the supplemental scoring punch and defensive versatility that any squad with serious aspirations can use. He was a critical part of the Golden State Warriors’ last championship run and brought energy to South Beach after getting shipped to the Heat in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-rumors-jimmy-butler-agent-made-promise-was-broken">the Jimmy Butler trade</a>. Acquiring the 30-year-old Canadian will be costly — will make $28.2 million this season and has a $30.1 million player option for 2026-27 — but LA is evidently more amenable to such a commitment than it was several months ago.</p><p>“I wouldn’t have classified him as a potential purple-and-gold target before Dončić’s long-term future was secured, but things are different now,” Stein writes. “So my sense is that the Lakers would have interest if the Heat, in coming weeks or months, decide to prioritize financial flexibility and look to reduce payroll.”</p><p>The 2022 All-Star averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 60 games while shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from 3-point land last season. Opposing defenses will focus mainly on LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, which would theoretically give Andrew Wiggins favorable looks on offense.</p><p>The rest of the league is chasing the Oklahoma City Thunder, but the Lakers could show just how dedicated they are to catching the reigning champions by acquiring this veteran difference-maker. Though, as Marc Stein notes, Miami is seemingly planning to start the new season with Wiggins on the roster.
