After suffering a career-threatening back injury last year, the 35-year-old is now on a comeback trail in a bid to return to the NBA.</p><p><a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/34208419/aron-baynes-work-nba-teams-las-vegas-one-year-spinal-cord-injury">Brian Windhorst of ESPN</a> reports that Baynes has now recovered from his injury and is now set to work out for a handful of teams:</p><blockquote>Aron Baynes, who suffered a spinal cord injury after a freak fall while playing for the Australian national team in the Tokyo Olympics last summer, has resumed his career and will be working out for NBA teams Friday in Las Vegas.</blockquote><p>This is definitely a welcome development for Aron Baynes, who was previously in danger of seeing his career come to an end after a devastating injury. So much so, that the Australian national had to spend no less than two months in the hospital right after his injury as he learned to walk again.</p><p>Baynes did not actually suffer his injury while on the basketball court. The 6-foot-10 center slipped in the bathroom during a game, and he was knocked unconscious. He could barely feel his limbs when he regained consciousness, and he was unable to walk. Baynes had to be rushed to the hospital, where it was later determined that he suffered internal bleeding.</p><p>Baynes, a one-time NBA champ, is a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/spurs-video-spurs-coach-gregg-popovich-hilariously-reacts-to-hearing-about-aron-baynes-twitter-fan-club/">journeyman</a> in the league. He’s played for no less than five teams in nine years in the NBA. He absolutely took that like a champ. It doesn’t look like he even flinched for a second after taking one right on his grill. Westbrook was falling out of balance too so it appears as though he put all his strength into that pass.</p><p>There was no animosity after the sequence though, as both players knew that there was no malice during the play. Baynes looked like he was a bit dazed after being on the wrong end of Westbrook’s errant pass, but the pair were able to laugh it off shortly after the incident.</p><p>The Wizards were still without Bradley Beal in this one, with the All-Star shooting guard still nursing a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/wizards-news-bradley-beal-injury-update-exiting-pistons-game/" rel="noopener">hip problem</a>. Raul Neto took his place in the starting five, but it will be Westbrook who will need to do most of the heavy lifting for Washington so long as Beal remains on the shelf.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Baynes rached career highs in points and rebounds last seasons with the Phoenix Suns and was critical for the squad early during the season when Deandre Ayton was serving a 25-game suspension.</p><p>Baynes is a physical big man who will give the Raptors rebounding, 3-point shooting, and solid defense. Losing Ibaka and Gasol hurts, but this move will help soften the blow. Masai Ujiri with yet another excellent acquisition.</p><p>Baynes’ Per 36 stats are even more impressive, averaging 18.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per 36 minutes. That would be some solid production for a teams starting center. Baynes also adds perimeter shooting and a big pick-and-roll presence. The Raptors ran the pick and roll 14 percent of their total possessions last year, yet the roll men only ranked 29th in the league when it came to their PPP (points per possession). The Raptors are definitely going to benefit from Baynes, who is one of the better pick and roll bigs in the league.</p><p>Baynes can also play in the pick and pop because of his 3-point shooting ability, making up for what the Raptors lost in Ibaka.</p><p>The Raptors also just recently re-signed power forward/center Chris Boucher, giving them even more depth in the frontcourt. The 24-year-old has been dealing with a right-knee issue, but appears to be closing in on a return for his team.</p><p>Oubre has been tremendous for the Suns in his first full season with the team, averaging <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/o/oubreke01.html#all_per_game">18.7 points</a> (on 45.2 percent shooting), 6.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.3 steals, while also connecting on 1.9 triples per contest on a 35.2-percent clip.</p><p>As for Baynes, the veteran big man tested positive for COVID-19 a few months back, but has since made a full recovery. However, his conditioning has been a problem, with him having to sit out for an extended period. Most recently, however, the Suns coaching staff has updated the 6-foot-10 center’s status to a right knee contusion as opposed to the previous conditioning issue. Clearly, he too is making the right amount of progress.</p><p>The Suns have been the hottest team since the restart, winning all four of their seeding games thus far. And they were exposed to it at a later point. They didn’t get it at the same time as me but they were also positive at a later point.”</blockquote><p>Baynes’ family members also tested positive for COVID-19 but experienced only mild symptoms. </p><p>The Suns center will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Before the suspension of the NBA season, the big man stacked up averages of 11.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 42 games. While the Suns have a long way to go to clinch a spot in the playoffs, having Baynes back with them will help. </p><p>If all goes well, Baynes could be available for the Suns’ first seeding game against the Washington Wizards on Friday. Washington Wizards power forward Davis Bertans decided not to play in Orlando out of fear of getting hurt at Disney World. Like Baynes, Bertans becomes a free agent in the offseason.</p><p>Before the 2019-20 <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-news-nba-season-suspended-after-rudy-gobert-tests-positive-for-coronavirus/">season was suspended in March</a>, Baynes was averaging 11.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists for the Suns in 42 games. He was also shooting 48.0 percent from the field, 35.1 percent from beyond the arc and 74.7 percent from the free-throw line.</p><p>The Suns face an uphill battle to make the 2020 playoffs for the first time since 2010. Ignorance is an excuse and a crutch my friends, and it is what will drag this world under if we’re not careful,” wrote Aron Baynes. “Trust me, I know what I’m talking about.“I grew up ignorant. I grew up uneducated. I grew up as part of the problem – part of the white majority in a small Australian town,” Aron Baynes admitted.“Don’t mistake me. I didn’t dislike any certain individual because of their race or culture. But I didn’t support them either, which was just as bad. I was a silent bystander. Despite growing up as a white kid in Queensland, Australia, racial implications now play a part in Baynes’ everyday life — not only being married to a black woman, but also having children who could face racism and discrimination at any point.</p><p>Aron Baynes’ hope is that people can learn to accept others and listen to their struggles as a first step to pursue equality for those who have long been silenced and oppressed. One player in question is backup center Aron Baynes.</p><p>Although the Suns do not currently plan on moving Baynes — whom they acquired from the Boston Celtics on draft night — they are open to moving him if the right deal comes along, <a href="https://twitter.com/TheSteinLine/status/1220414691303993344?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1220414691303993344&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fclutchpoints.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D705897%26action%3Dedit" rel="noopener noreferrer">per Marc Stein of The New York Times.</a></p><p>Baynes has been extremely productive in his first year in the desert. The eighth-year veteran is averaging 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in just over 22 minutes per game, equating to a per-36 line of 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds. He also started a number of games due to Deandre Ayton’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/report-deandre-ayton-facing-25-game-suspension-for-violating-nbas-anti-drug-policy/" rel="noopener noreferrer">absence due to a suspension</a> stemming from a positive test for a banned substance.</p><p>Moreover, Baynes continues to evolve as an offensive player. The New Zealander is averaging a career-high 3.8 3-point attempts, converting on over 33 percent of those chances.</p><p>The Suns will likely sell high on Aron Baynes if they try to trade him before the deadline. Boston traded him to the Suns this past offseason. His move from Boston to Phoenix wasn’t talked about that much by pundits, but with the Suns playing decent and Baynes putting up career-high numbers, people outside of Phoenix are starting to pay attention to what Baynes and the Suns are doing.</p><p>In 32 games this season, Baynes is averaging <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/baynear01.html" rel="noopener noreferrer">11.7 points</a>, 5.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 49.7 percent from the field and 33.6 percent from beyond the arc. He is making $5.4 million this season. Baynes will become an unrestricted free agent next offseason and is setting himself up for a nice payday.</p><p>The Celtics will be eager to defeat Baynes and the Suns. Boston has lost two games in a row. The Celtics lost to the Detroit Pistons at home on Wednesday and followed that up with a road loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday.</p><p>The Celtics are 27-13 on the season. However, the Suns are not quite ready to sell yet, still looking to make a playoff push, according to <a href="https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2869254-2020-nba-trade-buzz-where-will-iguodala-gallinari-other-big-names-land" rel="noopener noreferrer">Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report</a>.</p><p>Baynes’ outside shooting and his soft touch in the perimeter mesh better with the current Clippers’ roster, including reserve Montrezl Harrell, who is in the running for Sixth Man of the Year.</p><p><a href="https://twitter.com/sam_vecenie" rel="noopener noreferrer">Sam Vecenie of The Athletic</a> proposed a potential Baynes for Ivica Zubac trade, but the Suns might not be too keen on taking back so much long-term salary, given that Zubac was recently rewarded with a four-year, $28.5 million deal in the summer.</p><blockquote>“They would need a third team,” an Eastern Conference executive said.</blockquote><p>The Suns like Baynes as their frontcourt anchor and could be resistant to trade conversations unless they fall out of the race for one of the last playoff spots in the West.</p><p>They currently trail the San Antonio Spurs by one game and could find themselves making the push if they can string along a few wins in January before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.</p><p>As for the Clippers, Zubac has been a phantom starter, playing a feeble 17.4 minutes per game, down from the 20.2 minutes he received during his 26 games with the team last season after being traded by the Los Angeles Lakers right before last year’s deadline.</p><p>–</p><p><i>Follow ClutchPoints on <a href="https://twitter.com/clutchpointsapp" rel="noopener noreferrer">Twitter</a> &amp; <a href="https://www.instagram.com/clutchpoints/?hl=en" rel="noopener noreferrer">Instagram</a>, and like us on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ClutchPoints/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Facebook</a>. Leonard would end the game with 20 points and six rebounds in 27 minutes. Leonard, George and Williams would combine for 64 points for Los Angeles.
