As the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-miami-brings-davion-mitchell-back-24-million-contract">Heat brought back Mitchell on a $24 million contract</a> earlier, there’s no doubt that he stood out not just to the fanbase, but star Bam Adebayo.</p><p>Speaking last Saturday, Adebayo would touch on Miami re-signing Mitchell, with whom the two have been teammates for half of last season due to the aforementioned trade involving Butler. Besides the skills on the court, such as his defense, ball-handling, and playmaking, Adebayo looks at it more from a <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article311547377.html" rel="noopener">“brotherhood”</a> aspect, according to The Miami Herald.</p><p>“Davion being back, obviously, we’ve been missing somebody that can really play on-ball defense,” Adebayo said about Mitchell. “And having him come in and be that guy and understand his role, I’m looking forward to him being here for a full year and all of us being together and getting to know one another and turning this into more of a brotherhood. It’s completely different from the places I’ve been in,” Mitchell said in July. “They really take winning seriously here, and I respect that, and I’m excited to be here.”</p><p>“It’s going to be good for me and the team, just the chemistry that we can build,” Mitchell continued. “We won a couple games, we even made it to the playoffs with very little chemistry, especially with injuries and just getting traded here. Adebayo said last Saturday that the move for Powell is a <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article311547377.html" rel="noopener">“very good shake-up”</a> for Miami, according to The Miami Herald.</p><p>“It’s a very good shake-up for our team, and now there’s a different dynamic to it,” Adebayo said.</p><p>Adebayo was the one who put out the message after the season ended at the hands of a Cleveland Cavaliers sweep that changes were coming to the organization. The deal for Powell displayed that, with Adebayo no doubt being a fan of the move, saying that they added an “All-Star caliber player.”</p><p>“I feel like Norman is one of those guys that floats under the radar,” Adebayo said. “But as you saw this year, he’s really shown that he can be an All-Star caliber player. You’ve seen what he’s done, and you’ve seen him grow in this league. And, obviously, he wants to take the next challenge. Obviously, the next challenge is being with the Miami Heat. However, there were some decisions to be made in who gets traded from Miami’s side, plus some other departures featuring a familiar place.</p><p>In the Powell trade, the Heat would deal Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson (who came from the Jimmy Butler trade), and aside from that, long-time Miami sharpshooter Duncan Robinson would go to the Detroit Pistons in a sign-and-trade. Adebayo had been teammates with Robinson since the 2018-19 season and also had developed a close relationship with Love, as the star showed love to the two.</p><p>“I’m going to miss them, obviously,” Adebayo said. “Just because Duncan has been here for eight years, and having that connection was special. And then K-Love was a leader that could speak to somebody from a championship level, could obviously encourage the younger group, be an example, but also he was the bridge between some of the coaches and the players. So like I said, I’m going to miss both of them. I’m glad we had the time that we did. It was, obviously, helpful for my growth and my development as a player and as a captain.”</p><p>Miami is looking to improve after finishing last season at 37-45, which put them 10th in the Eastern Conference, though they would make it through the play-in tournament and punch their ticket to the playoffs. The 31-year-old would express how excited he is to ClutchPoints about being able to play with the <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1943056717266211022" rel="noopener">“versatile”</a> duo of Herro and Adebayo.</p><p>“I’m really excited,” Powell said. “I was competing against them throughout the years, having the conversations on and off the court with Bam in passing and things like that. You know, I like what they’re building. I like the culture. They compete every single night. You know, no matter who’s healthy, who’s in, out the lineup, they’re putting a full team out there that’s going to compete and fight for wins, they’re scrappy, they’re gritty, they’re competitive, they’re very confident, and that’s what I like.”</p><p>“They’re very versatile, too,” Powell continued. “Bam can play multiple positions, can attack multitude of ways, defensively, can switch, can defend different positions, protect the rim, really athletic. Tyler Herro, he’s great off the ball, on the ball, scoring, facilitating. The former Clipper would speak on how effective he is in getting out in transition, and especially working in pick-and-roll situations that can help Adebayo and even Kel’el Ware.</p><p>Powell’s addition could help Miami be a faster-paced team, which has been an issue in the past few years, with the group being slower compared to the rest of the league, as they were bottom-five last season. Other than that though, Powell would say how he fits the famed <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1943047788121723286" rel="noopener">“culture”</a> of the Heat and is eager for the extended opportunity.</p><p>“Yeah, I think, honestly, it’s just the opportunity, I’m extremely hardworking,” Powell said. “I think going into Miami, I fit the culture perfectly, just that grit, that competitiveness, and putting in the work, the extra work, the late nights, early mornings. That’s who I am to a tee.”</p><p>“So I think for me, it was all about the opportunity. As <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/nba-rumors-shams-confirms-heats-jonathan-kuminga-interest-amid-warriors-uncertainty">rumors surrounded the Heat</a> heading into the NBA Draft, the team would keep the pick and select Jakucionis, who was widely considered a lottery pick.</p><p>Jakucionis played one season for the Fighting Illini under head coach Brad Underwood and is filled with major potential at the professional level with his playmaking savvy and work in the pick-and-roll game. In fact, he would say that aspect is key and is <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1938077841838457324" rel="noopener">“grateful”</a> that he will be able to play alongside the featured Miami duo of Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro.</p><p>“The playmaking ability is what I do,” Jakucionis said. “I’m just grateful to play with guys like [Bam] Adebayo. We can play together in pick-and-rolls. And Tyler Herro and all those kinds of players. I’m just very happy and grateful to be in this place.”</p><p>In speaking with the media on a call right after being selected, there could be some surprise that Jakucionis fell to the 20th pick. Either way, Jakucionis would call it a <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1938078039281439125" rel="noopener">“special”</a> moment, calling it the start of a new chapter in the life of the 19-year-old.</p><p>“I’m so excited,” Jakucionis said. “I’m just grateful for this moment to be in this place with this opportunity to get my name called. It’s special for me. That was what I was working for all my life since I was little, and that was my dream. He would even say to ClutchPoints <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1938077840530149654" rel="noopener">that his playmaking</a> is his biggest strength, which was a need heading into the draft for Miami.</p><p>“Yeah, I think the playmaking, trying to make everybody better on the court,” Jakucionis said. “Try to find open players, shoot when I’m open, and give a lot of effort every day.”</p><p>Last season, Jakucionis averaged 15 points, 5,7 rebounds, and 4,7 assists per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from beyond the arc.</p><p>There is no denying that there are some aspects that Jakucionis will need to improve on, like his defensive ability and consistency from three-point range, but the Heat have been <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1938077517228753083" rel="noopener">known for their development program</a> in uplifting young players. This would be something that Jakucionis pointed out to ClutchPoints on Wednesday night.</p><p>“I know the development part is really good there,” Jakucionis said. “I think I can improve a lot there, I just need to trust in the process, trust to make the team better, trust to win as much as we can, and I’m ready to work.”</p><p>At any rate, Miami looks to improve after finishing last season with a 37-45 record, which put them 10th in the East, as though they would make it through the play-in tournament, the playoffs were one to forget.
